Very recently Kwon et al. [H.-J. Kwon, J.-A. Seo, H. K. Kim, and Y. H. Hwang, J. Chem. Phys. 134, 014508 (2011)] published an article on the study of dielectric relaxation in trehalose and maltose glasses. They carried out broadband dielectric measurements at very wide range of temperatures covering supercooled liquid as well as glassy state of both saccharides. It is worth to mention that authors have also applied a new method for obtaining anhydrous glasses of trehalose and maltose that enables avoiding their caramelization. Four relaxation processes were identified in dielectric spectra of both saccharides. The slower one was identified as structural relaxation process the next one, not observed by the others, was assigned as Johari-Goldstein (JG) β-relaxation, while the last two secondary modes were of the same nature as found by Kaminski et al. [K. Kaminski, E. Kaminska, P. Wlodarczyk, S. Pawlus, D. Kimla, A. Kasprzycka, M. Paluch, J. Ziolo, W. Szeja, and K. L. Ngai, J. Phys. Chem. B 112, 12816 (2008)]. In this comment we show that the authors mistakenly assigned the slowest relaxation process as structural mode of disaccharides. We have proven that this relaxation process is an effect of formation of thin layer of air or water between plate of capacitor and sample. The same effect can be observed if plates of capacitor are oxidized. Thus, we concluded that their slowest mode is connected to the dc conduction process while their β JG process is primary relaxation of trehalose and maltose.  相似文献

Synthetic approaches are developed to benzimidoylphosphoryl derivatives containing electronically and sterically diverse alkyl substituents on the nitrogen atom, as well as their prototropic isomers. We obtain exact analytic solutions of the diffusion-influenced excited-state reversible geminate recombination reaction, A* + B<-->(AB)*, with two different lifetimes and quenching under the influence of a constant external field in one dimension. These fundamental solutions generalize two previous results [Kim et al., J. Chem. Phys. 111, 3791 (1999); 114, 3905 (2001)] and provide us with the insight necessary to analyze their specific relations and asymptotic kinetic transition behaviors. We find that the number of kinetic transitions can be changed due to interplay between the field strength and lifetimes. Unlike the previous works, the number of lifetime dependent transitions is found to be one or zero. On the other hand, the number of the field dependent transitions becomes two, one, or zero. We find a new pattern of kinetic transition e(t)-->t(-1/2)-->e(t) when there is only one field dependent transition.  相似文献

Recently, the gene encoding clathrin assembly protein of lymphoid myeloid leukemia (CALM), which is homologous to the AP180, was cloned from rat brain, and its expression differential to AP180 was reported (Kim and Lee, 1999). This gene product promotes the polymerization of clathrin into clathrin cage and found to be a regulator in membrane trafficking between intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells (Kim et al., 2000). In this study, we have purified the CALM protein from clathrin-coated vesicles of rat liver using the monoclonal antibody against the recombinant N-terminal region of the CALM. The coated proteins extracted from the coated vesicle fraction was further purified by multi-step procedures involving gel-filtration and ion-exchange chromatography and SDS-PAGE. The purified protein with an apparent molecular weight of 100 kD promoted the assembly of clathrin triskelia into clathrin cage. In this respect the CALM protein bears a functional resemblance to the AP180 that has been previously described.  相似文献

The differential elastic cross sections (θlab < 20°) for Li+-Ar, Kr, Xe have been measured for 3 <Ec.m. < 9 eV and compared with those predicted from the electron gas theory of Gordon and Kim for closed shell systems. The experimental well depths are typically deeper than predicted by theory. The largest discrepancy of 9% was found for Li+-Kr.  相似文献

Alkylation of N,N"-dimethyl-1,8-diaminonaphthalene with 2-iodopropane in a KOH—DMSO system afforded a new proton sponge, viz., N,N"-diisopropyl-N,N"-dimethyl-1,8-diaminonaphthalene; the rotation barrier of the Pri groups about the N—C bond is 68.4±0.4 kJ mol–1 (DMSO).  相似文献

We report measurements of differential and integral cross sections for electron excitation of the Schumann-Runge continuum, longest band, and second band electronic states in molecular oxygen. The energy range of the present study is 15-200 eV, with the angular range of the differential cross section (DCS) measurements from 2 to 130°. A generalized oscillator strength analysis is then employed in order to derive integral cross sections (ICSs) from the corresponding DCSs, and these ICSs are compared with relevant energy and oscillator strength scaled Born cross section (BEf-scaling [Y.-K. Kim, J. Chem. Phys. 126, 064305 (2007)]) results determined as a part of this investigation. Interestingly, while the present Schumann-Runge continuum and second band ICSs were in reasonable agreement with the respective BEf-scaling results, agreement for the longest band was poor below 100 eV with a possible reason for this apparently anomalous behavior being canvassed here. Finally, where possible all present data are compared with the results from earlier measurements and calculations with the level of agreement found being very good in some cases and marginal in others.  相似文献

In a recent article we reported calculations of the ionization energy thresholds (IET) of microhydrated thymine (Close; et al. J. Phys. Chem. A, 2006, 110, 7485). Calculations showed a distinct effect of microhydration on the IET's of thymine. The first water molecule was seen to decrease the IET by about 0.1 eV, and the second and third water molecules caused a further decrease of less than 0.1 eV each. These changes in IET calculated for the canonical form of thymine with 1-3 waters of hydration are smaller than the experimental values determined by Kim et al. (J. Phys. Chem. C 1996, 100, 7933). In the present study it has been shown that there is considerable reorientation of the water molecules in microhydrated thymine upon ionization. This leads to the expectation that the experimental ionization energies may therefore represent an adiabatic process. The results presented here show that the changes in experimental ionization energies determined by Kim et al. for microhydrated thymine are in good agreement with the calculated adiabatic ionization energies.  相似文献

Strain discrimination within genetically highly similar bacteria is critical for epidemiological studies and forensic applications. An electrochemically driven melting curve analysis monitored by SERS has been utilised to reliably discriminate strains of the bacterial pathogen Yersinia pestis, the causative agent of plague. DNA amplicons containing Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTRs) were generated from three strains of Y. pestis: CO92, Harbin 35 and Kim. These amplicons contained a 10 base pair VNTR repeated 6, 5, and 4 times in CO92, Harbin 35 and Kim respectively. The assay also included a blocker oligonucleotide comprising 3 repeats of the 10-mer VNTR sequence. The use of the blocker reduced the effective length of the target sequence available to bind to the surface bound probe and significantly improved the sensitivity of the discrimination. The results were consistent during three replicates that were carried out on different days, using different batches of PCR product and different SERS sphere segment void (SSV) substrate. This methodology which combines low cost, speed and sensitivity is a promising alternative to the time consuming current electrophoretic methods.  相似文献

A Powerful Luminophore that comprises a centered pyrene acceptor with peripheral amine multidonors is described by J. S. Kim and co‐workers in their Communication on page 2522 ff. The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) efficiency and radical stability of pyrene, a poor ECL luminophore, is markedly improved as the number of peripheral multidonor units is increased in a series of compounds. The ECL enhancement was rationalized by photophysical and electrochemical studies, and theoretical calculations.

(TMS)3CH is an efficient free radical reducing agent. Debromination, deiodation, dechlorination as well as decarboxylation of Barton and Kim esters can proceed smoothly using this tin-free reducing agent. We report the temperature, pH, glucose concentration, NaCl concentration, and operating atmosphere dependence of the power output of a compartment-less miniature glucose-O(2) biofuel cell, comprised only of two bioelectrocatalyst-coated carbon fibers, each of 7 micro m diameter and 2 cm length (Mano, N.; Mao, F.; Heller, A. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2002, 124, 12962). The bioelectrocatalyst of the anode consists of glucose oxidase from Aspergillus niger electrically "wired" by polymer I, having a redox potential of -0.19 V vs Ag/AgCl. That of the cathode consists of bilirubin oxidase from Trachyderma tsunodae "wired" by polymer II having a redox potential of +0.36 V vs Ag/AgCl (Mano, N.; Kim, H.-H.; Zhang, Y.; Heller, A. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2002, 124, 6480. Mano, N.; Kim, H.-H.; Heller, A. J. Phys. Chem. B 2002, 106, 8842). Implantation of the fibers in the grape leads to an operating biofuel cell producing 2.4 micro W at 0.52 V.  相似文献

An efficient radical-mediated decarboxylative azidation of aliphatic carboxylic acids has been developed. The success of this transformation hinges on the use of a new type of thiohydroxamate esters (MPDOC esters). These esters are more stable than the classical Barton esters and less prone to rearrange under radical conditions. In the case of alpha-alkoxy and alpha-amino acids, optimal results are obtained with the even more stable MMDOC esters developed recently by Kim.  相似文献

Low-energy excitations and optical absorption spectrum of C(60) are computed by using time-dependent (TD) Hartree-Fock, TD-density functional theory (TD-DFT), TD DFT-based tight-binding (TD-DFT-TB), and a semiempirical Zerner intermediate neglect of diatomic differential overlap method. A detailed comparison of experiment and theory for the excitation energies, optical gap, and absorption spectrum of C(60) is presented. It is found that electron correlations and correlation of excitations play important roles in accurately assigning the spectral features of C(60), and that the TD-DFT method with nonhybrid functionals or a local spin density approximation leads to more accurate excitation energies than with hybrid functionals. The level of agreement between theory and experiment for C(60) justifies similar calculations of the excitations and optical absorption spectrum of a monomeric azafullerene cation C(59)N(+), to serve as a spectroscopy reference for the characterization of carborane anion salts. Although it is an isoelectronic analogue to C(60), C(59)N(+) exhibits distinguishing spectral features different from C(60): (1) the first singlet is dipole-allowed and the optical gap is redshifted by 1.44 eV; (2) several weaker absorption maxima occur in the visible region; (3) the transient triplet-triplet absorption at 1.60 eV (775 nm) is much broader and the decay of the triplet state is much faster. The calculated spectra of C(59)N(+) characterize and explain well the measured ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and transient absorption spectra of the carborane anion salt [C(59)N][Ag(CB(11)H(6)Cl(6))(2)] [Kim et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 125, 4024 (2003)]. For the most stable isomer of C(48)N(12), we predict that the first singlet is dipole-allowed, the optical gap is redshifted by 1.22 eV relative to that of C(60), and optical absorption maxima occur at 585, 528, 443, 363, 340, 314, and 303 nm. We point out that the characterization of the UV-vis and transient absorption spectra of C(48)N(12) isomers is helpful in distinguishing the isomer structures required for applications in molecular electronics. For C(59)N(+) and C(48)N(12) as well as C(60), TD-DFT-TB yields reasonable agreement with TD-DFT calculations at a highly reduced cost. Our study suggests that C(60), C(59)N(+), and C(48)N(12), which differ in their optical gaps, have potential applications in polymer science, biology, and medicine as single-molecule fluorescent probes, in photovoltaics as the n-type emitter and/or p-type base of a p-n junction solar cell, and in nanoelectronics as fluorescence-based sensors and switches.  相似文献

The molecular dynamics (MD) simulation study of solvation structure and free energetics in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate using a probe solute in the preceding article [Y. Shim, M. Y. Choi and H. J. Kim, J. Chem. Phys. 122, 044510 (2005)] is extended to investigate dynamic properties of these liquids. Solvent fluctuation dynamics near equilibrium are studied via MD and associated time-dependent friction is analyzed via the generalized Langevin equation. Nonequilibrium solvent relaxation following an instantaneous change in the solute charge distribution and accompanying solvent structure reorganization are also investigated. Both equilibrium and nonequilibrium solvation dynamics are characterized by at least two vastly different time scales--a subpicosecond inertial regime followed by a slow diffusive regime. Solvent regions contributing to the subpicosecond nonequilibrium relaxation are found to vary significantly with initial solvation configurations, especially near the solute. If the solvent density near the solute is sufficiently high at the outset of the relaxation, subpicosecond dynamics are mainly governed by the motions of a few ions close to the solute. By contrast, in the case of a low local density, solvent ions located not only close to but also relatively far from the solute participate in the subpicosecond relaxation. Despite this difference, linear response holds reasonably well in both ionic liquids.  相似文献
