Euler-Euler two-fluid model is used to simulate the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flow in a bubbling flu- idized bed with Geldert B particles where the solid property is calculated by applying the kinetic theory of granular flow (KTGF). Johnson and Jackson wall boundary condition is used for the particle phase, and different amount of slip between particle and wall is given by varying the specularity coefficient (φ) from 0 to 1. The simulated particle velocity, granular temperature and particle volume fraction are compared to investigate the effect of different wall boundary conditions on the hydrodynamic behavior, Some of the results are also compared with the available experimental data from the literature. It was found that the model predictions are sensitive to the specularity coefficient. The hydrodynamic behavior deviated sig- nificantly for φ = 0 and φ = 0.01 with maximum deviation found at φ = 0 i.e. free-slip condition. However, the overall bed height predicted by all the conditions is similar.  相似文献

To study the influence of back feeding particles on gas-solid flow in the riser, this paper investigated the flow asymmetry in the solid entrance region of a fluidized bed by particle concentration/velocity measurements in a cold square circulating fluidized beds (CFB). The pressure drop distribution along the riser and the saturation carrying capacity of gas for Geldart-B type particles were first analyzed. Under the condition of u0 = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/(m^2 s), the back feeding particles were found to penetrate the lean gas-solid flow near the entrance (rear) wall before reaching the opposite (front) wall, thus leading to a relatively denser region near the front wall in the bottom bed. Higher solid circulation rate (u0 =4 m/s, Gs = 33 kg/(m^2 s)) resulted in a higher particle concentration in the riser. However the back feeding particles with higher momentum increased the asymmetry of the particle concentration/velocity profile in the solid entrance region. Lower air velocity (u0 =3.2 m/s) and Gs =21 kg/(m2 s), beyond the saturation carrying capacity of gas, induced an S-shaped axial solid distribution with a denser bottom zone. This limited the penetration of the back feeding particles and forced the flnidizing air to flow in the central region, thus leading to a higher solid holdup near the rear wall. Under the conditions of uo = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/(m^2 s), addition of coarse particles (dp= 1145 μm) into the bed made the radial distribution of solids more symmetrical.  相似文献

Sinter-locked microfibrous networks consisting of -3 vol.% of 8 p.m (dia.) nickel microfibers have been utilized to entrap -30vo1.% of 100-200 μm dia. porous AI203. ZnO and CaO were then highly dispersed onto the pore surface of entrapped A1203 by the incipient wetness impregnation method. Due to the unique combination of surface area, pore size/particle size, thermal conductivity, and void volume, the resulting microfibrous catalyst composites provided significant improvement of catalytic bed reactivity and utilization efficiency when used in methanol steam reforming. Roughly 260 mL/min of reformate, comprising 〉70% H2, 〈5% CO and trace CH4, with 〉97% methanol conversion, could be produced in a I cm3 bed volume of our novel microfihrous entrapped ZnO-CaO/Al2O3 catalyst composite at 470℃ with a high weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 15 h-1 using steam/methanol (1.3/1) mixture as feedstock. Compared to a packed bed of 100-200μm ZnO-CaO/Al2O3, our composite bed provided a doubling of the reactor throughput with a halving of catalyst usage.  相似文献

Experiments were performed on spout characteristics of a cylindrical spout-fluidized bed (I.D. = 10 cm) with different static heights and two materials (Al2O3 and high density polyethylene). Results of minimum spouting velocity obtained in this study were compared with reported correlations for both spouted and spout-fluidized beds. Considerable discrepancies were found between the values obtained using different model equations as well as with respect to experimental results. Based on the Mathur–Gishler correlation, a new correlation is proposed for calculating the minimum spouting velocity that introduces the ratio U/Umf. It was found that the minimum spouting velocity decreases with increasing fluidizing gas velocity (U/Umf). The pressure drop at the point of minimum spouting velocity is also correlated using this dimensionless group and is presented in this work. This investigation demonstrates that the use of correlations reported in the literature that focus primarily on conical bottom spouted beds are not applicable to flat-bottom spouted and spout-fluidized beds.  相似文献

The paper presents average flow visualizations and measurements, obtained with the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique, of a submerged rectangular free jet of air in the range of Reynolds numbers from Re = 35,300 to Re = 2200, where the Reynolds number is defined according to the hydraulic diameter of a rectangular slot of height H. According to the literature, just after the exit of the jet there is a zone of flow, called zone of flow establishment, containing the region of mixing fluid, at the border with the stagnant fluid, and the potential core, where velocity on the centerline maintains a value almost equal to the exit one. After this zone is present the zone of established flow or fully developed region. The goal of the paper is to show, with average PIV visualizations and measurements, that, before the zone of flow establishment is present a region of flow, never mentioned by the literature and called undisturbed region of flow, with a length, LU, which decreases with the increase of the Reynolds number. The main characteristics of the undisturbed region is the fact that the velocity profile maintains almost equal to the exit one, and can also be identified by a constant height of the average PIV visualizations, with length, LCH, or by a constant turbulence on the centerline, with length LCT. The average PIV velocity and turbulence measurements are compared to those performed with the Hot Film Anemometry (HFA) technique. The average PIV visualizations show that the region of constant height has a length LCH which increases from LCH = H at Re = 35,300 to LCH = 45H at Re = 2200. The PIV measurements on the centerline of the jet show that turbulence remains constant at the level of the exit for a length, LCT, which increases from LCT = H at Re = 35,300 to LCT = 45H at Re = 2200. The PIV measurements show that velocity remains constant at the exit level for a length, LU, which increases from LU = H at Re = 35,300 to LU = 6H at Re = 2200 and is called undisturbed region of flow. In turbulent flow the length LU is almost equal to the lengths of the regions of constant height, LCH, and constant turbulence, LCT. In laminar flow, Re = 2200, the length of the undisturbed region of flow, LU, is greater than the lengths of the regions of constant height and turbulence, LCT = LCH = 45H. The average PIV and HFA velocity measurements confirm that the length of potential core, LP, increases from LP = 45H at Re = 35,300 to LP = 78H at Re = 2200, and are compared to the previous experimental and theoretical results of the literature in the zone of mixing fluid and in the fully developed region with a good agreement.  相似文献

This paper presents results of an ongoing investigation into modelling fluidized dense-phase pneumatic conveying of powders. For the reliable design of dense-phase pneumatic conveying systems, an accurate estimation of the blockage boundary condition or the minimum transport velocity requirement is of sig- nificant importance. The existing empirical models for fine powder conveying in fluidized dense-phase mode are either based on only a particular pipeline and product or have not been tested for their accuracy under a wide range of scale-up conditions. In this paper, a validated test design procedure has been devel- oped to accurately scale-up the blockage boundary with the help of a modelling format that employs solids loading ratio and Froude number at pipe inlet conditions using conveying data of two different samples of fly ash, electro-static precipitation (ESP) dust and cement (particle densities: 2197-3637 kgJm3; loose poured bulk densities: 634-1070kg/m3; median size: 7-30 l~m). The developed models (in power func- tion format) have been used to predict the blockage boundary for larger diameter and longer pipelines (e.g. models based on 69 mm I.D. ~ 168 m long pipe have been scaled up to 105 mm I.D. and 554 m length). The predicted blockage boundaries for the scale-up conditions were found to provide better accuracy compared to the existing models.  相似文献

The removal of volatile organic compounds by photocatalytic degradation is one of the safest and most effective ways of removing pollutants from the air. This process is highly affected by the type of reactor, light exposure, and hydrodynamics. For scale up purposes, continuous reactors with high capacity are required for treating large amounts of feedstock. In this work, two types of reactors based on different hydrodynamics, fluidized and spouted reactors, were designed to work under light irradiation inside the reactor. The efficiency of the reactors for volatile organic compound removal from high flow rates of air under Hg lamp irradiation using N–F-TiO2 photocatalyst was investigated. The performance of the fluidized bed and spouted bed were evaluated and compared at the same weight hourly space velocity of feed stream through the reactor. The results revealed that 80% of the initial acetaldehyde was removed in the fluidized bed after about 200 min, while in the spouted bed the acetaldehyde was totally removed after about 120 min.  相似文献

Flow instability in baffled channel flow, where thin baffles are mounted on both channel walls periodically in the direction of the main flow, has been numerically investigated. The geometry considered here can be regarded as a simple model for finned heat exchangers. The aim of this investigation is to understand how baffle interval (L) and Reynolds number (Re) influence the flow instability. With a fixed baffle length of one quarter of channel height (H), ratios of baffle interval to channel height (RB = L/H) between 1 and 4 are considered. The critical Reynolds number of the primary instability, a Hopf bifurcation from steady flow to time-periodic flow, turned out to be minimum when RB = 3.08. The friction factor (f) is strongly correlated with the critical Reynolds number for RB  2.5. For the particular cases of RB = 1.456 and RB = 1.0, we performed Floquet stability analysis in order to study the secondary instability through which time-periodic two-dimensional flow bifurcates into three-dimensional flow. The results obtained in this investigation are in good agreement with those computed from full simulations, and shed light on understanding and controlling flow characteristics in a finned heat exchanger, quite beneficial to its design.  相似文献

The present study investigated experimentally the heat transfer from a heat source simulating an electronic chip mounted on a printed circuit board placed downstream of a guide fence on the lower wall of the flow passage with two different aspect ratios (H/W = 0.3 and 1). The channel height to the heat source height ratios (H/B) are of 10 and 3. The effect of the guide fence height (b) and the spacing between the guide fence and the heat source (S) were investigated. The guide fence was orientated such that guide fence extension point was varied from the midpoint of the front face of the heat source to the endpoint of the side face at 5000 ? ReL ? 30,000. The results for the heat source without guide fence displayed noticeable difference when compared with the flow over smooth plate placed on the lower wall of the flow passage. An enhancement in the convective heat transfer coefficient up to 20% is obtained when decreasing the flow passage height to the heat source height ratio from 10 to 3. Also, higher Nusselt number is located at the front face and the vertical sides of the heat source compared with that of the top surface. Nusselt number increases with the increase in both Reynolds number and the guide fence height while the effect of spacing between the guide fence and the heat source depending on the guide fence height. Correlations for the average Nusselt number were obtained utilizing the present measurements within the investigated range of the different parameters.  相似文献

Aerosol observation was conducted for four seasons from September 2001 to August 2002 at five sampling sites in Hangzhou, South China, on PM10 mass, 22 elements (Na, Mg, AI, Si, P, S, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As. Se, Br, Cd, Ba, and Pb), 5 major ions (F^-, Cl^ , NO3^-, SO4^2- , and NH4^+), and organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), showing that PM10 mass ranged from 46.7 to 270.8 μg/m^3, with an annual average of 119.2 μg/m^3. Na, AI, Si, S, K, Ca, and Fe were the most abundant elements in PM10, most of S being in the form of SO4^2- . SO4^2-, NO3^-, and NH4^+ were the major ions, which contributed to about 20% of the PM10 mass. The mean seasonal concentrations for SO4^2- , averaged over all sites, were found to be 18.0, 18.5, 24,Z and 21.4 μg/m^3, for spring, summer, autumn, and winter, respectively, while the corresponding loadings for NO3^- were 7.2, 4.7, 7.1, and 11.2 μg/m^3, and for NH4^+ were 6.0, 5.9, 8.2, and 9.3 μg/m^3, in the form mostly of NH4NO3 in spring, autumn, and winter, and mostly of (NH4)2SO4 in summer. The low NO3^-/SO4^2- ratio found indicates coal combustion as the major source throughout the year. The mean annual concentrations of OC and EC in PM10 were found to be 21.4, and 4.1 μg/m^3, respectively. Material balance calculation indicated that fugitive dust, the secondary aerosol, and carbonaceous matter were the most abundant species in PM10 for the four seasons, as is characteristic for cities in South China.  相似文献

A continuous dichotomous beta gauge monitor was used to characterize the hourly content of PM2.5, PM10–2.5, and Black Carbon (BC) over a 12-month period in an urban street canyon of Hong Kong. Hourly vehicle counts for nine vehicle classes and meteorological data were also recorded. The average weekly cycles of PM2.5, PM10–2.5, and BC suggested that all species are related to traffic, with high concentrations on workdays and low concentrations over the weekends. PM2.5 exhibited two comparable concentrations at 10:00–11:00 (63.4 μg/m3) and 17:00–18:00 (65.0 μg/m3) local time (LT) during workdays, corresponding to the hours when the numbers of diesel-fueled and gasoline-fueled vehicles were at their maximum levels: 3179 and 2907 h−1, respectively. BC is emitted mainly by diesel-fueled vehicles and this showed the highest concentration (31.2 μg/m3) during the midday period (10:00–11:00 LT) on workdays. A poor correlation was found between PM2.5 concentration and wind speed (R = 0.51, P-value > 0.001). In contrast, the concentration of PM10–2.5 was found to depend upon wind speed and it increased with obvious statistical significance as wind speed increased (R = 0.98, P-value < 0.0001).  相似文献

Three dimensionally coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) were used to investigate the flow of corn-shaped particles in a cylindrical spouted bed with a conical base. The particle motion was modeled by the DEM, and the gas motion by the k-? two-equation turbulent model. A two-way coupling numerical iterative scheme was used to incorporate the effects of gas–particle interactions in terms of momentum exchange. The corn-shaped particles were constructed by a multi-sphere method. Drag force, contact force, Saffman lift force, Magnus lift force, and gravitational force acting on each individual particle were considered in establishing the mathematical modeling. Calculations were carried out in a cylindrical spouted bed with an inside diameter of 200 mm, a height of 700 mm, and a conical base of 60°. Comparison of simulations with experiments showed the availability of the multi-sphere method in simulating spouting action with corn-shaped particles, but it depended strongly on the number and the arrangement of the spherical elements. Gas–solid flow patterns, pressure drop, particle velocity and particle concentration at various spouting gas velocity were discussed. The results showed that particle velocity reaches a maximum at the axis and then decreases gradually along the radial direction in the whole bed. Particle concentration increases along the radial direction in the spout region but decreases in the fountain region, while it is nearly constant in the annulus region. Increasing spouting gas velocity leads to larger pressure drop, remarkably increased speed of particle moving upward or downward, but decreased particle concentration.  相似文献

Fluidized bed agglomeration is an important and challenging problem for thermal cracking in fluid cokers. A low coker temperature can be problematic because the bitumen is injected into the fluidized bed with a different viscosity, resulting in formation of agglomerates of varying sizes, which slows the cracking reactions. In the present study, the bed material agglomeration process during nozzle injection of multiviscosity liquid was investigated in a fluidized bed operated at different mass ratios of the atomization gas to the liquid jets (GLR = 1%–3.5%) and gas velocities (3.9Umf and 5.9Umf) based on a conductance method using a water–sand system to simulate the hot bitumen–coke system at room temperature. During the tests of liquid-jet dispersion throughout the bed, different agglomeration stages are observed at both gas velocities. The critical amount of tert-butanol in the liquid jets that could lead to severe agglomeration of the bed materials (poor fluidization) at GLR = 1% is about 10 wt% at the low fluidizing gas velocity (3.9Umf) and 18 wt% at the high gas velocity (5.9Umf). This study provides a new approach for on-line monitoring of bed agglomeration during liquid injection to guarantee perfect contact between the atomized liquid and the bed particles.  相似文献

The efficiency of pesticide application to agricultural fields and the resulting environmental contamination highly depend on atmospheric airflow. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of airflow within plant canopies using 3D canopy architecture was developed to understand the effect of the canopy to airflow. The model average air velocity was validated using experimental results in a wind tunnel with two artificial model trees of 24 cm height. Mean air velocities and their root mean square (RMS) values were measured on a vertical plane upstream and downstream sides of the trees in the tunnel using 2D hotwire anemometer after imposing a uniform air velocity of 10 m s?1 at the inlet. 3D virtual canopy geometries of the artificial trees were modelled and introduced into a computational fluid domain whereby airflow through the trees was simulated using Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations and k-ε turbulence model. There was good agreement of the average longitudinal velocity, U between the measurements and the simulation results with relative errors less than 2% for upstream and 8% for downstream sides of the trees. The accuracy of the model prediction for turbulence kinetic energy k and turbulence intensity I was acceptable within the tree height when using a roughness length (y0 = 0.02 mm) for the surface roughness of the tree branches and by applying a source model in a porous sub-domain created around the trees. The approach was applied for full scale orchard trees in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and was compared with previous approaches and works. The simulation in the ABL was made using two groups of full scale orchard trees; short (h = 3 m) with wider branching and long (h = 4 m) with narrow branching. This comparison showed good qualitative agreements on the vertical profiles of U with small local differences as expected due to the spatial disparities in tree architecture. This work was able to show airflow within and above the canopy in 3D in more details.  相似文献

The hydrodynamic behaviour of the spouted bed in the pharmaceutical industries has been found to be less addressed. The present paper has focused on the hydrodynamic characteristics of a spouted bed where the Cellets™ (Ph.Eur./USP) is adopted as the bed material. Experiments are carried out with three different static bed heights (H0) of shallow depth (2Di ≤ H0 < 3Di) using two different particle sizes. The spouted bed employed with Di/D0 of 5 has given the experimental information on external spouting (Ues) by mapping the pressure drop, and fountain height (Hf) against the superficial gas velocity (Ug) is represented with the image contours, which show the intrinsic behaviour. All the 1000 μm and 700 μm particles have been found to exhibit symmetric and asymmetric spouting. With increasing Ug, the fully suspended particles are limited to a certain height in the freeboard region due to the gas-solid cross-flow, which implies the clusters have identified with the image processing method.  相似文献

Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of spatially developing turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) over sparsely-spaced two-dimensional (2D) rod-roughened walls were performed. The rod elements were periodically arranged along the streamwise direction with pitches of px/k = 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128, where px is the streamwise spacing of the rods, and k is the roughness height. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness was varied from Reθ = 300–1400, and the height of the roughness element was k = 1.5θin, where θin is the momentum thickness at the inlet. The characteristics of the TBLs, such as the friction velocity, mean velocity, and Reynolds stresses over the rod-roughened walls, were examined by varying the spacing of the roughness features (8  px/k  128). The outer-layer similarity between the rough and smooth walls was established for the sparsely-distributed rough walls (px/k  32) based on the profiles of the Reynolds stresses, whereas those are not for px/k = 8 and 16. Inspection of the interaction between outer-layer large-scale motions and near-wall small-scale motions using two-point amplitude modulation (AM) covariance showed that modulation effect of large-scale motions on near-wall small-scale motions was strongly disturbed over the rough wall for px/k = 8 and 16. For px/k  32, the flow that passed through the upstream roughness element transitioned to a smooth wall flow between the consecutive rods. The strong influence of the surface roughness in the outer layer for px/k = 8 and 16 was attributed to large-scale erupting motions by the surface roughness, creating both upward shift of the near-wall turbulent energy and active energy production in the outer layer with little influence on the near-wall region.  相似文献

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is one of the most valuable species in economic terms in the genus Setaria and plays an important role in human nutrition, animal feed, and agriculture. The present study described chemical, physical, and quality aspects of seeds of foxtail millet. Furthermore, the fluid-dynamic behavior of the seeds was evaluated in a conical spouted bed, which has advantages in terms of promoting the cyclic and regular movement of the seed particles. Dynamic parameters of spouting (minimum spouting velocity, stable and peak pressure drop) were determined and compared with those obtained from empirical correlations available in the literature. The results obtained from physical characterization showed that the seeds can be classified as belonging to Group D of Geldart, having a non-rough surface, mean diameter of 1.75 mm, and sphericity of 0.74. Fluid-dynamics analysis showed that the seeds are suitable for processing in a spouted bed, which is in agreement with the results of particle physical characterization.  相似文献

The process of ductile plate perforation by sharp-nosed rigid projectiles is further examined in this work through 2D numerical simulations. We highlight various features concerning the effective resisting stress (σr) which a finite thickness plate, with a flow stress of Yt, exerts on the projectile during perforation. In particular, we show that the normalized resisting stress (σr/Yt) can be represented as a unique function of the normalized thickness of the plate (H/D, where H is plate thickness and D is projectile diameter), for a large range of normalized thicknesses. Our simulations for very thin target plates show that the penetration process is achieved through the well-known dishing mechanism, where the target material is pushed forward by the projectile’s nose. An important observation, which emerges from our simulations, is that the transition between the dishing and the hole enlargement mechanisms takes place at a normalized thickness of about H/D = 1/3. We also find that the normalized resistive stress for intermediate plate thicknesses, 1/3 < H/D < 1.0, is relatively constant at a value of σr/Yt = 2.0. This range of thicknesses conforms to a state of quasi plane stress in the plates. For thicker plates (H/D > 1) the σr/Yt ratio increases monotonically to values which represent the resistance to penetration of semi-infinite targets, where the stress state is characterized by plane strain conditions. Using a simple model, which is based on energy conservation, we can predict the values of the ballistic limit velocities for many projectile/target combinations, provided the perforation is done through the ductile hole enlargement mechanism. Good agreement is demonstrated between predictions from our model and experimental data from different sources, strongly enhancing the confidence in both the validity and usefulness of our model.  相似文献

The large bending behavior of a creased paperboard is studied in the range of rotation θ ? [0°, 180°] – new results, apparently not reported previously in literature – with the aim to point out some crucial aspect involved in an adaptive robotic manipulation of the industrial cartons. The loading tests show a great variability of the mechanical behavior, depending dramatically on the crease indentation depth (also for the specimens obtained from the same carton): (a) when the damage induced during the crease formation is relatively small, the bending response is unusually complex: the moment constitutive function, mL(θ), presents (up to) two peaks followed by unstable branches; (b) for greater indentation, the mL(θ) is monotone. In the unloading case the response mU(θ) is always monotone and is practically independent of the formation conditions of the crease. These behaviors can be easily described analytically using (piecewise) third degree splines. In a companion paper, the erection of a typical carton corner with unstable constitutive behavior is fully analyzed to detect the possible criticalities.  相似文献

Air flow field around a surface-mounted hemisphere of a fixed height for two different turbulent boundary layers (thin and thick) are investigated experimentally and numerically. Flow measurements are performed in a wind tunnel using hot-wire anemometer and streamwise component of velocity fluctuation are calculated using a special developed program of the hardware system. Mean surface pressure coefficients and velocity field for the same hemisphere are determined by the numerical simulation. Turbulent flow field and intensity are measured for two types of boundary layers and compared at various sections in both streamwise and spanwise directions. Numerical scheme based on finite volume and SIMPLE algorithm is used to treat pressure and velocity coupling. Studies are performed for Reynolds number, ReH = 32,000. Based on the numerical simulation using RNG kε turbulence model, flow pathlines, separation region and recirculation area are determined for the two types of turbulent boundary layer flows and complex flow field and recirculation regions are identified and presented graphically.  相似文献
