We consider a free boundary problem modeling fluid flow in a partially saturated porous media. In that context an unknown function represents the pressure and satisfies an elliptic equation in the saturated domain and a quasilinear parabolic equation in the unsaturated domain. In the paper, we consider a coefficient inverse problem for the heat equation in a degenerating angular domain. It has been shown that the inverse problem for the homogeneous heat equation with homogeneous boundary conditions has a nontrivial solution up to a constant factor consistent with the integral condition. Moreover, the solution of the considered inverse problem is found in explicit form. In conclusion, statements of possible generalizations and the results of numerical calculations are given.  相似文献

In a domain with free boundary, we consider the inverse problem of determination of the coefficient of the first derivative of the unknown function in a parabolic equation with weak power degeneration. The Stefan condition and the integral condition are used as overdetermination conditions. The Dirichlet problem for Laplace’s equation in a two-dimensional domain filled with a piecewise homogeneous medium is considered. The boundary of the inhomogeneity is assumed to be unknown. The inverse problem of determining the inhomogeneity boundary from additional information on the solution of the Dirichlet problem is considered. A numerical method based on the linearization of the nonlinear operator equation for the unknown boundary is proposed for solving the inverse problem. The inverse problem of determining 2D spatial part of integral member kernel in integro‐differential wave equation is considered. It is supposed that the unknown function is a trigonometric polynomial with respect to the spatial variable y with coefficients continuous with respect to the variable x. Herein, the direct problem is represented by the initial‐boundary value problem for the half‐space x>0 with the zero initial Cauchy data and Neumann boundary condition as Dirac delta function concentrated on the boundary of the domain . Local existence and uniqueness theorem for the solution to the inverse problem is obtained.  相似文献

We consider a free boundary value problem arising from a non-symmetric problem of electrochemical machining (ECM). After a conformal mapping of the unknown domain the problem is transformed to a non-smooth non-linear Riemann–Hilbert problem for holomorphic functions in the complex unit disk. A special technique allows to remove the singularities in the boundary condition. Utilizing existence results for smooth non-orientable Riemann–Hilbert problems, existence and uniqueness of a solution are shown. Finally, we propose an iterative method of Newton type for the effective numerical computation of the free boundary of the anode and present some test results. © 1997 B. G. A nonlinear integro-ordinary differential equation built up by a linear ordinary differential operator of n th order with constant coefficients and a quadratic integral term is dealt with. The integral term represents the so-called autocorrelation of the unknown function. Applying the Fourier cosine transformation, the integral-differential equation is reduced to a quadratic boundary value problem for the complex Fourier transform of the solution in the upper half-plane. This problem in turn is reduced to a linear boundary value problem which can be solved in closed form. There are infinitely many solutions of the integral-differential equation depending on the prescribed zeros of a function related to the complex Fourier transform.  相似文献

The harmonic problem in a cracked domain is studied in R m , m?>?2. The boundary of the domain is assumed to be nonsmooth, while cracks are smooth. The Dirichlet condition is specified on the boundary of the domain. Jumps of the unknown function and its normal derivative are specified on the cracks. Uniqueness and solvability results are obtained. The problem is reduced to the uniquely solvable integral equation, its solution is given explicitely in the form of a series. The estimates of the solution of the problem depending on the boundary data are obtained.  相似文献

A solution is developed for a convection-diffusion equation describing chemical transport with sorption, decay, and production. The problem is formulated in a finite domain where the appropriate conservation law yields Robin conditions at the ends. When the input concentration is arbitrary, the problem is underdetermined because of an unknown exit concentration. We resolve this by defining the exit concentration as a solution to a similar diffusion equation which satisfies a Dirichlet condition at the left end of the half line. This problem does not appear to have been solved in the literature, and the resulting representation should be useful for problems of practical interest.

Authors of previous works on problems of this type have eliminated the unknown exit concentration by assuming a continuous concentration at the outflow boundary. This yields a well-posed problem by forcing a homogeneous Neumann exit, widely known as Danckwerts condition. We provide a solution to that problem and use it to produce an estimate which demonstrates that Danckwerts condition implies a zero concentration at the outflow boundary, even for a long flow domain and a large time.  相似文献

We consider a generalized Tricomi equation with a singular coefficient. For this equation in a mixed domain we study the corresponding problem in the case, when a part of the boundary characteristic is free of boundary conditions; the deficient Tricomi condition is equivalently substituted by a nonlocal Frankl condition on a segment of the degeneration line. A model problem is considered for the Poisson equation in a two-dimensional domain with a cut. The Dirichlet and Neumann conditions are imposed on the exterior boundary of the domain together with the nonnegativity condition for the jump across the edges of the cut. In addition, the absolute value of the gradient inside the domain must be bounded by some constant. The boundary value problem turns into a variational problem, and the unknown function must yield the minimum of the energy functional on some convex set. After discretization of the problem by the finite element method, an Uzawa-type algorithm is used to find a solution. Some examples are included of solving the discrete problem.  相似文献

In this study, a Birkhoff-irregular boundary value problem for linear ordinary differential equations of the second order with discontinuous coefficients and the spectral parameter has been considered. Therefore, at the discontinuous point, two additional boundary conditions (called transmission conditions) have been added to the boundary conditions. The eigenvalue parameter is of the second degree in the differential equation and of the first degree in a boundary condition. The equation contains an abstract linear operator which is (usually) unbounded in the space Lq(−1, 1). Isomorphism and coerciveness with defects 1 and 2 are proved for this problem. This paper is concerned with a free boundary problem modeling the growth of a spherically symmetric tumor with angiogenesis. The unknown nutrient concentration \(\sigma =\sigma (r,t)\) occupies the unknown tumor region \(r< R(t)\) and satisfies a nonlinear reaction diffusion equation, and the unknown tumor radius \(R=R(t)\) satisfies a nonlinear integro-differential equation. Unlike existing literatures on this topic where Dirichlet boundary condition for \(\sigma \) is imposed, in this paper the model uses the Robin boundary condition for \(\sigma \). We prove existence and uniqueness of a global in-time classical solution (\(\sigma (r,t),R(t)\)) for arbitrary \(c>0\) and establish asymptotic stability of the unique stationary solution (\(\sigma _{s}(r),R_{s}\)) for sufficiently small \(c\), where \(c\) is a positive constant reflecting the ratio between nutrient diffusion scale and the tumor cell-doubling scale.

A boundary element method is introduced to approximate the solution of a scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation with a generalized Fourier–Robin‐type boundary condition given by a second‐order elliptic differential operator. The formulation involves three unknown fields, but is free from any hypersingular integral. Existence and uniqueness of the solution are established using a Babuška inf–sup condition. When implementing the method, a lumping process allows to remove two fields from the formulation. The numerical solution has thus the same cost as the one of a problem relative to a usual Neumann boundary condition. In this paper we study the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a boundary-value problem for an elliptic equation of second order with oscillatory coefficients in a periodically perforated domain when the boundary condition on the external boundary is of the first type and on the boundary of holes of the third type, for the case in which the linear dimension of the perforation period tends to zero. It is proved that these eigenvalues and eigenfunctions can be determined approximately via the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of an essentially simpler Dirichlet problem for an elliptic equation with constant coefficients in a domain without holes. Estimates of errors in these approximations are given.  相似文献

A highly accurate new solver is developed to deal with the Dirichlet problems for the 2D Laplace equation in the doubly connected domains. We introduce two circular artificial boundaries determined uniquely by the physical problem domain, and derive a Dirichlet to Dirichlet mapping on these two circles, which are exact boundary conditions described by the first kind Fredholm integral equations. As a direct result, we obtain a modified Trefftz method equipped with two characteristic length factors, ensuring that the new solver is stable because the condition number can be greatly reduced. Then, the collocation method is used to derive a linear equations system to determine the unknown coefficients. The new method possesses several advantages: mesh‐free, singularity‐free, non‐illposedness, semi‐analyticity of solution, efficiency, accuracy, and stability. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
