In this paper we give a new perspective on the Cauchy integral and transform and Hardy spaces for Dirac-type operators on manifolds with corners of codimension two. Instead of considering Banach or Hilbert spaces, we use polyhomogeneous functions on a geometrically “blown-up” version of the manifold called the total boundary blow-up introduced by Mazzeo and Melrose [R.R. Mazzeo, R.B. Melrose, Analytic surgery and the eta invariant, Geom. Funct. Anal. 5 (1) (1995) 14-75]. These polyhomogeneous functions are smooth everywhere on the original manifold except at the corners where they have a “Taylor series” (with possible log terms) in polar coordinates. The main application of our analysis is a complete Fredholm theory for boundary value problems of Dirac operators on manifolds with corners of codimension two.  相似文献

We consider the existence of at least one positive solution to a semipositone boundary value problem with nonlocal, nonlinear boundary conditions, which can be quite general since the nonlinearity is realized as a Stieltjes integral. By assuming that the associated Stieltjes measure decomposes in a certain way, the classical Leray-Schauder degree is utilized to derive the existence result.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to a boundary value problem for the Poisson equation with a singular right-hand side, singular potential and with alternating type of the boundary condition. Assuming that the boundary microstructure is periodic, we construct the limit problem and prove the homogenization theorem by means of the unfolding method. The proof requires that the dimension be larger than two.  相似文献

We present a spline approximation method for a piece of a surface where jump discontinuities occur along curves. The data for the surface is assumed to be Fourier coefficients which are limited in order and possibly contaminated with noise. The support of the approximation is bounded by three sides of a rectangle with a fourth boundary possibly curved. Discontinuities of the surface may occur across the curved side and linear sides adjacent to it. The approximation uses a small number of lines through the support and parallel to the straight boundary lines that are adjacent to the curve. Along each line a one-dimensional spline approximation is done for a section of the surface over the line. This approximation uses two-dimensional Fourier coefficient data, localizing spline functions, and a technique which we developed earlier for one-dimensional analogues of the problem. We use a spline quasi-interpolation scheme to create a surface approximation from the section approximations. The result is accurate even when the surface is discontinuous across the curved boundary and adjacent side boundaries.  相似文献

We study Sturm-Liouville problems with right-hand boundary conditions depending on the spectral parameter in a quadratic manner. A modified Crum-Darboux transformation is used to produce chains of problems almost isospectral with the given one. The problems in the chain have boundary conditions which in various cases are affine or bilinear in the spectral parameter, and in all cases culminate in a problem with constant boundary conditions. This extends recent work of Binding, Browne, Code and Watson when the right-hand condition is either an affine function of the spectral parameter with negative leading coefficient or a Herglotz function.  相似文献

The dynamics of a (nonlinear) Berger plate in the absence of rotational inertia are considered with inhomogeneous boundary conditions. In our analysis, we consider boundary damping in two scenarios: (i) free plate boundary conditions, or (ii) hinged-type boundary conditions. In either situation, the nonlinearity gives rise to complicating boundary terms. In the case of free boundary conditions we show that well-posedness of finite-energy solutions can be obtained via highly nonlinear boundary dissipation. Additionally, we show the existence of a compact global attractor for the dynamics in the presence of hinged-type boundary dissipation (assuming a geometric condition on the entire boundary (Lagnese, 1989)). To obtain the existence of the attractor we explicitly construct the absorbing set for the dynamics by employing energy methods that: (i) exploit the structure of the Berger nonlinearity, and (ii) utilize sharp trace results for the Euler–Bernoulli plate in Lasiecka and Triggiani (1993).We provide a parallel commentary (from a mathematical point of view) to the discussion of modeling with Berger versus von Karman nonlinearities: to wit, we describe the derivation of each nonlinear dynamics and a discussion of the validity of the Berger approximation. We believe this discussion to be of broad value across engineering and applied mathematics communities.  相似文献

Combining elements of the b-calculus and the theory of elliptic boundary value problems, we solve the gluing problem for b-determinants of Dirac type operators on manifolds with cylindrical ends. As a corollary of our proof, we derive a gluing formula for the b-eta invariant and also a relative invariant formula relating the b-spectral invariants on a manifold with cylindrical end to the spectral invariants with the augmented APS boundary condition on the corresponding compact manifold with boundary.  相似文献

This paper deals with the solvability of the Navier-Stokes equations on manifolds with boundary. In particular, we concentrate on the inhomogeneous slip boundary condition. Our formulation of the equations takes into account a curvature term which results from a proper derivation of the Navier-Stokes equations. This term has not been considered in prior work. We consider optimal, in the number of operations, computation schemes for the solution of the problem of resonance scattering on a hole on a boundary surface with a discontinuously acting group. We investigate general Shapiro-Lopatinsky elliptic boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends. This is accomplished by compactifying such a manifold to a manifold with corners of in general higher codimension, and we then deal with boundary value problems for cusp differential operators. We introduce an adapted Boutet de Monvel's calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems, and construct parametrices for elliptic cusp operators within this calculus. Fredholm solvability and elliptic regularity up to the boundary and up to infinity for boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends follows.  相似文献

We investigate a boundary value problem for a thermoelectroconductive body with the Signorini condition on the boundary, related to resistance welding. The mathematical model consists of an energy‐balance equation coupled with an elliptic equation for the electric potential and a quasistatic momentum balance with a viscoelastic material law. We prove certain mixed-norm Strichartz estimates on manifolds with boundary. Using them we are able to prove new results for the critical and subcritical wave equation in 4-dimensions with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We obtain global existence in the subcritical case, as well as global existence for the critical equation with small data. We also can use our Strichartz estimates to prove scattering results for the critical wave equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions in 3-dimensions.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate spline wavelets on the interval with homogeneous boundary conditions. Starting with a pair of families of B-splines on the unit interval, we give a general method to explicitly construct wavelets satisfying the desired homogeneous boundary conditions. On the basis of a new development of multiresolution analysis, we show that these wavelets form Riesz bases of certain Sobolev spaces. We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes system considered on a sequence of spatial domains, whose boundaries exhibit fast oscillations with amplitude and characteristic wave length proportional to a small parameter. Imposing the complete slip boundary conditions we show that in the asymptotic limit the fluid sticks completely to the boundary provided the oscillations are non-degenerate, meaning not oriented in a single direction.  相似文献
