Sensitivity of a posterior quantity (f, P) to the choice of the sampling distribution f and prior P is considered. Sensitivity is measured by the range of (f, P) when f and P vary in nonparametric classes f and P respectively. Direct and iterative methods are described which obtain the range of (f, P) over f f when prior P is fixed, and also the overall range over f f and P P . When multiple i.i.d. observations X 1,...,X k are observed from f, the posterior quantity (f, P) is not a ratio-linear function of f. A method of steepest descent is proposed to obtain the range of (f, P). Several examples illustrate applications of these methods.  相似文献

LetT be a continuous scalar-type spectral operator defined on a quasi-complete locally convex spaceX, that is,T=fdP whereP is an equicontinuous spectral measure inX andf is aP-integrable function. It is shown that (T) is precisely the closedP-essential range of the functionf or equivalently, that (T) is equal to the support of the (unique) equicontinuous spectral measureQ * defined on the Borel sets of the extended complex plane * such thatQ *({})=0 andT=zdQ *(z). This result is then used to prove a spectral mapping theorem; namely, thatg((T))=(g(T)) for anyQ *-integrable functiong: * * which is continuous on (T). This is an improvement on previous results of this type since it covers the case wheng((T))/{} is an unbounded set in a phenomenon which occurs often for continuous operatorsT defined in non-normable spacesX.  相似文献

Let X be a separable compact Abelian group, Aut(X) the group of topological automorphisms of X, f n: XX a homomorphism f n(x)=nx, and X (n)=Im f n. Denote by I(X) the set of idempotent distributions on X and by (X) the set of Gaussian distributions on X. Consider linear statistics L 1= 1( 1)+ 2( 2) and L 2= 1( 1)+ 2( 2), where j are independent random variables taking on values in X and with distributions j, and j, jAut(X). The following results are obtained. Let X be a totally disconnected group. Then the independence of L 1 and L 2 implies that 1, 2I(X) if and only if X possesses the property: for each prime p the factor-group X/X (p) is finite. If X is connected, then there exist independent random variables j taking on values in X and with distributions j, and j, jAut(X) such that L 1 and L 2 are independent, whereas 1, 2(X) * I(X).  相似文献

We study the class of bounded C 0-semigroups T=(T t ) t0 on a Banach space X satisfying the asymptotic finite dimensionality condition: codim X 0(T)<, where X 0(T):={x X:limt T t x=0}. We prove a theorem which provides some necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic finite dimensionality.  相似文献

Let n be n-dimensional Euclidean space, and let : [0, L] n and : [0, L] n be closed rectifiable arcs in n of the same total length L which are parametrized via their arc length. is said to be a chord-stretched version of if for each 0s tL, |(t)–(s)| |(t)–(s)|. is said to be convex if is simple and if ([0, L]) is the frontier of some plane convex set. Individual work by Professors G. Choquet and G. T. Sallee demonstrated that if were simple then there existed a convex chord-stretched version of . This result led Professor Yang Lu to conjecture that if were convex and were a chord-stretched version of then and would be congruent, i.e. any chord-stretching map of a convex arc is an isometry. Professor Yang Lu has proved this conjecture in the case where and are C 2 curves. In this paper we prove the conjecture in general.  相似文献

Summary In the processes under consideration, a particle of size L splits with exponential rate L , 0<<, and when it splits, it splits into two particles of size LV and L(1-V) where V is independent of the past with d.f. F on (0, 1). Let Z tbe the number of particles at time t and L tthe size of a randomly chosen particle. If =0, it is well known how the system evolves: e -tZtconverges a.s. to an exponential r.v. and –L tt + Ct 1/2 X where X is a standard normal t.v. Our results for >0 are in sharp contrast. In Splitting Intervals we showed that t -1/ Z tconverges a.s. to a constant K>0, and in this paper we show . We show that the empirical d.f. of the rescaled lengths, , converges a.s. to a non-degenerate limit depending on F that we explicitly describe. Our results with =2/3 are relevant to polymer degradation. The work of this author was partially supported by NSF grant MCS 81-02730The work of this author was partially supported by NSF grants MCS 80-02732 and MCS 83-00836 and an Alfred P. Let be a Guelfand measure (cf. [A, B]) on a locally compact groupG DenoteL 1 (G)=*L 1(G)* the commutative Banach algebra associated to . We show thatL 1 (G) is semi-simple and give a characterization of the closed ideals ofL 1 (G). Using the -spherical Fourier transform, we characterize all linear bounded operators inL 1 (G) which are invariants by -translations (i.e. such that 1(( x f) )=( x ((f)) for eachxG andfL 1 (G); where x f(y)=f(xy); x,y G). WhenG is compact, we study the algebraL 1 (G) and obtain results analogous to ones obtained for the commutative case: we show thatL 1 (G) is regular, all closed sets of its Guelfand spectrum are sets of synthesis and establish theorems of harmonic synthesis for functions inL p (G) (p=1,2 or +).

LetG be a graph, andk1 an integer. LetU be a subset ofV(G), and letF be a spanning subgraph ofG such that deg F (x)=k for allx V(G)–U. If deg F (x)k for allxU, thenF is called an upper semi-k-regular factor with defect setU, and if deg F (x)k for allxU, thenF is called a lower semi-k-regular factor with defect setU. Now letG=(X, Y;E(G)) be a bipartite graph with bipartition (X,Y) such that X=Yk+2. We prove the following two results.(1) Suppose that for each subsetU 1X such that U 1=max{k+1, X+1/2},G has an upper semi-k-regular factor with defect setU 1Y, and for each subsetU 2Y such that U 2=max{k+1, X+1/2},G has an upper semi-k-regular factor with defect setXU 2. ThenG has ak-factor.(2) Suppose that for each subsetU 1X such that U 1=X–1/k+1,G has a lower semi-k-regular factor with defect setU 1Y, and for each subsetU 2Y such that U 2=X–1/k+1,G has a lower semi-k-regular factor with defect setXU 2. ThenG has ak-factor.  相似文献

Summary Let 0, 1,... be a stationary Harris recurrent Markov chain with state space (E,), and let f E IR, X i=f(i). It is known that the sequence X i, i0, is strongly mixing, i.e. (n)>0 where (n) are the strong (or Rosenblatt) mixing coefficients. If (n) decreases at a sufficiently fast rate and f is suitable, then a central limit holds for the partial sums . The present paper gives conditions in order that the convergence rates are O(n –1/2).  相似文献

Summary In the class of functionalsf:X , whereX is an inner product space with dimX 3, we study the D'Alembert functional equationf(x + y) + f(x – y) = 2f(x)f(y) (1) on the restricted domainsX 1 = {(x, y) X 2/x, y = 0} andX 2 = {(x, y) X 2/x = y}. In this paper we prove that the equation (1) restricted toX 1 is not equivalent to (1) on the whole spaceX. We also succeed in characterizing all common solutions if we add the conditionf(2x) = 2f2(x) – 1. Using this result, we prove the equivalence between (1) restricted toX 2 and (1) on the whole spaceX. This research follows similar previous studies concerning the additive, exponential and quadratic functional equations.  相似文献

If X is a Hausdorff space we construct a 2-groupoid G 2 X with the following properties. The underlying category of G 2 X is the `path groupoid" of X whose objects are the points of X and whose morphisms are equivalence classes f, g of paths f, g in X under a relation of thin relative homotopy. The groupoid of 2-morphisms of G 2 X is a quotient groupoid X / N X, where X is the groupoid whose objects are paths and whose morphisms are relative homotopy classes of homotopies between paths. N X is a normal subgroupoid of X determined by the thin relative homotopies. There is an isomorphism G 2 X(f,f) 2(X, f(0)) between the 2-endomorphism group of f and the second homotopy group of X based at the initial point of the path f. The 2-groupoids of function spaces yield a 2-groupoid enrichment of a (convenient) category of pointed spaces. We show how the 2-morphisms may be regarded as 2-tracks. We make precise how cubical diagrams inhabited by 2-tracks can be pasted.  相似文献

We introduce a nonstandard approach to the study of ordered setsX based on a classification of the elements of the ordered set *X into three types, upward, downward, and lateral, which may be thought of dynamically as arising from the possibilities of upward, downward, and lateral motion withinX. Initial applications include the characterization thatX has no infinite diverse subset iff *X has no lateral elements, a result subsequently exploited in work on the interval topology and order-compatibility, where we give a nonstandard proof of Naito's result that ifX has no infinite diverse subset, it has a unique order-compatible topology. We also describe how the completion of a nonempty linearly ordered setX may be obtained as a quotient of *X.  相似文献

LetX be the solution of the SDE:dX t = (X t)dB t +b(X t)dt, with andb C b (R) such that >0 for some constant , andB a real Brownian motion. Let be the law ofX onE=C([0, 1],R) andk E* – {0}, whereE* is the topological dual space ofE. Consider the classical form: k (u, v)=u / kv / kd, whereu andv are smooth functions onE. We prove that, if k is closable for anyk in a dense subset ofE* and if the smooth functions are contained in the domain of the generator of the closure of k , must be a constant function.  相似文献

Analysis is presented for the heat transfer performance of square ducts with internal fins from each wall in the case of combined free and forced convection by fully developed laminar flow. Numerical results are obtained for the Nusselt number and the pressure drop parameter for various values of finlengths and heat source parameter. For various values of Rayleigh numbers, the Nusselt number increases with the increase in finlength and decreases with the increase in heat source parameter.

Numerische Resultate für die Nusselt-Zahl und den Druckabfall-Koeffizienten für verschiedene Rippenbreiten und Parameter der Wärmequelle werden erhalten. Let X={X(t):tR} be a Lévy process and a non-decreasing, right continuous, bounded function with (–)=0 (((1+u 2)/u 2)d(u) is the Lévy measure). In this paper we define the Donsker delta function (X(t)–a), t>0 and aR, as a generalized Lévy functional under the condition that (0)–(0–)>0. This leads us to define F(X(t)) for any tempered distribution F, and as an application, we derive an Itô formula for F(X(t)) when has jumps at 0 and 1.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with the following generalized quasi-variational inequality problem: given a closed convex subsetX n , a multifunction :X 2 n and a multifunction :X 2 X , find a point ( ) X × n such that We prove an existence theorem in which, in particular, the multifunction is not supposed to be upper semicontinuous.  相似文献
