This paper presents the analysis of the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of a cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic axial excitation and transverse excitations at the free end. The governing nonlinear equations of nonplanar motion with parametric and external excitations are obtained. The Galerkin procedure is applied to the partial differential governing equation to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric and forcing excitations. The resonant case considered here is 2:1 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance for the in-plane mode and fundamental parametric resonance–primary resonance for the out-of-plane mode. The parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is applied to find the explicit formulas of normal forms associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the normal form obtained above, a global perturbation method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Silnikov type single-pulse homoclinic orbit in the averaged equation for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. These results show that the chaotic motions can occur in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. Numerical simulations verify the analytical predictions.  相似文献

The nonlinear vibrations of a composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate subjected to the in-plane and transversal excitations are investigated in this paper. Based on the Reddy??s third-order plate theory and the von Karman type equations for the geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion for the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate are established by using the Hamilton??s principle. The Galerkin approach is used to transform the nonlinear partial differential governing equations of motion into a two degree-of-freedom nonlinear system under combined parametric and forcing excitations. The case of foundational parametric resonance and 1:1 internal resonance is taken into account. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the four-dimensional averaged equation. The numerical method is used to find the periodic and chaotic motions of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate. It is found that the chaotic responses are sensitive to the changing of the forcing excitations and the damping coefficient. The influence of the forcing excitation and the damping coefficient on the bifurcations and chaotic behaviors of the composite laminated cantilever rectangular plate is investigated numerically. The frequency-response curves of the first-order and the second-order modes show that there exists the soft-spring type characteristic for the first-order and the second-order modes.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis on the nonlinear dynamics and multi-pulse chaotic motions of a simply-supported symmetric cross-ply composite laminated rectangular thin plate with the parametric and forcing excitations. Firstly, based on the Reddy’s third-order shear deformation plate theory and the model of the von Karman type geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear governing partial difirential equations of motion for the composite laminated rectangular thin plate are derived by using the Hamilton’s principle. Then, using the second-order Galerkin discretization, the partial differential governing equations of motion are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The case of the primary parametric resonance and 1:1 internal resonance is considered. Four-dimensional averaged equation is obtained by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is used to give the explicit expressions of normal form. Based on normal form, the energy phase method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and multi-pulse chaotic dynamics of the composite laminated rectangular thin plate. The theoretic results obtained above illustrate the existence of the chaos for the Smale horseshoe sense in a parametrical and forcing excited composite laminated thin plate. The chaotic motions of the composite laminated rectangular thin plate are also found by using numerical simulation, which also indicate that there exist different shapes of the multi-pulse chaotic motions for the composite laminated rectangular thin plate.  相似文献

Nonstationary excitations of slender, elastic, cantilevered beams with equal principal moments of inertia are considered. The excitation frequency is slowly increased or decreased through a resonance of the first mode at a constant rate. Three resonances are investigated: primary resonance, superharmonic resonance of order two and subharmonic resonance of order two. After application of Galerkin's method with three modes, the nonlinear, nonstationary response of the first mode of the beam is determined by two methods: integration of the modulation equations obtained from the method of multiple scales, and direct numerical integration of the temporal equations of motion. Time histories are presented and the effects of excitation amplitude, rate of acceleration or deceleration through resonance, damping and initial conditions of the disturbance on the maximum response are studied. The effect of a persistent random disturbance is also examined. Although the excitation acts in the vertical plane, whirling occurs if the beam is subjected to out-of-plane disturbances.  相似文献

The nonlinear equations of motion of planar bending vibration of an inextensible viscoelastic carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced cantilevered beam are derived. The viscoelastic model in this analysis is taken to be the Kelvin–Voigt model. The Hamilton principle is employed to derive the nonlinear equations of motion of the cantilever beam vibrations. The nonlinear part of the equations of motion consists of cubic nonlinearity in inertia, damping, and stiffness terms. In order to study the response of the system, the method of multiple scales is applied to the nonlinear equations of motion. The solution of the equations of motion is derived for the case of primary resonance, considering that the beam is vibrating due to a direct excitation. Using the properties of a CNT-reinforced composite beam prototype, the results for the vibrations of the system are theoretically and experimentally obtained and compared.  相似文献

The response of a slender, clastic, cantilevered beam to a transverse, vertical, harmonic excitation is investigated. The effects of nonlinear curvature, nonlinear inertia, viscous damping and static load are included. Previous work often has neglected the static deflection caused by the weight of the beam, which adds quadratic terms in the governing equations of motion. Galerkin's method is used with three modes and approximate solutions of the temporal equations are obtained by the method of multiple scales. Primary resonance is treated here, and out-of-plane motion is possible in the first and second modes when the principal moments of inertia of the beam cross-section are approximately equal. In Parts II and III, secondary resonances and nonstationary passages through various resonances are considered.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the asymptotic perturbation method to investigate nonlinear oscillations and chaotic dynamics in a rotor-active magnetic bearings (AMB) system with 8-pole legs and the time-varying stiffness. The stiffness in the AMB is considered as the time varying in a periodic form. Because of considering the weight of the rotor, the formulation on the electromagnetic force resultants includes the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. The resulting dimensionless equations of motion for the rotor-AMB system with the time-varying stiffness in the horizontal and vertical directions are a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities and parametric excitation. The asymptotic perturbation method is used to obtain the averaged equations in the case of primary parametric resonance and 1/2 subharmonic resonance. It is found that there exist period-3, period-4, period-6, period-7, period-8, quasiperiodic and chaotic modulated amplitude oscillations in the rotor-AMB system with the time-varying stiffness. It is seen from the numerical results that there are the phenomena of the multiple solutions and the soft-spring type and the hardening-spring type in nonlinear frequency-response curves for the rotor-AMB system. The parametric excitation, or the time-varying stiffness produced by the PD controller is considered to be a controlling force which can control the chaotic response in the rotor-AMB system to a period n motion.  相似文献

The Subharmonic Bifurcation of a Viscoelastic Circular Cylindrical Shell   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Xu  Kai-Yu  Cheng  Chang-Jun 《Nonlinear dynamics》1998,17(2):159-171
In this paper the nonlinear dynamic behavior of a viscoelastic circular cylindrical shell under a harmonic excitation applied at both ends is studied. The modified Flugge partial differential equations of motion are reduced to a system of finite degrees of freedom using the Galerkin method. The equations are solved by the Liapunov–Schmidt reduction procedure. In order to study 1/2 and 1/4 subharmonic parametric resonance of the shell, the transition sets in parameter plane and bifurcation diagrams are plotted for a number of situations. Results indicate that, for certain static loads, the shell may display jumps due to the presence of dynamic periodic load with small amplitude. Additionally, different physical situations are identified in which periodic oscillating phenomena can be observed, and where 1/4 subharmonic parametric resonance is simpler than the 1/2-one.  相似文献

This study analyses the nonlinear transverse vibration of an axially moving beam subject to two frequency excitation. Focus has been made on simultaneous resonant cases i.e. principal parametric resonance of first mode and combination parametric resonance of additive type involving first two modes in presence of internal resonance. By adopting the direct method of multiple scales, the governing nonlinear integro-partial differential equation for transverse motion is reduced to a set of nonlinear first order ordinary partial differential equations which are solved either by means of continuation algorithm or via direct time integration. Specifically, the frequency response plots and amplitude curves, their stability and bifurcation are obtained using continuation algorithm. Numerical results reveal the rich and interesting nonlinear phenomena that have not been presented in the existent literature on the nonlinear dynamics of axially moving systems.  相似文献

In this work, theoretical and experimental analysis of a piezoelectric energy harvester with parametric base excitation is presented under combination parametric resonance condition. The harvester consists of a cantilever beam with a piezoelectric patch and an attached mass, which is positioned in such a way that the system exhibits 1:3 internal resonance. The generalized Galerkin’s method up to two modes is used to obtain the temporal form of the nonlinear electromechanical governing equation of motion. The method of multiple scales is used to reduce the equations of motion into a set of first-order differential equations. The fixed-point response and the stability of the system under combination parametric resonance are studied. The multi-branched non-trivial response exhibits bifurcations such as turning point and Hopf bifurcations. Experiments are performed under various resonance conditions. This study on the parametric excitation along with combination and internal resonances will help to harvest energy for a wider frequency range from ambient vibrations.

The nonlinear dynamics of cantilevered piezoelectric beams is investigated under simultaneous parametric and external excitations. The beam is composed of a substrate and two piezoelectric layers and assumed as an Euler–Bernoulli model with inextensible deformation. A nonlinear distributed parameter model of cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvesters is proposed using the generalized Hamilton's principle. The proposed model includes geometric and inertia nonlinearity, but neglects the material nonlinearity. Using the Galerkin decomposition method and harmonic balance method, analytical expressions of the frequency–response curves are presented when the first bending mode of the beam plays a dominant role. Using these expressions, we investigate the effects of the damping, load resistance, electromechanical coupling, and excitation amplitude on the frequency–response curves. We also study the difference between the nonlinear lumped-parameter and distributedparameter model for predicting the performance of the energy harvesting system. Only in the case of parametric excitation, we demonstrate that the energy harvesting system has an initiation excitation threshold below which no energy can be harvested. We also illustrate that the damping and load resistance affect the initiation excitation threshold.  相似文献

This work examines dynamical behavior of a nonlinear oscillator with symmetric potential that models a quarter-car forced by the road profile under parametric excitation. The parametric resonance of a harmonically excited nonlinear quarter-car model with position and velocity time-delayed active control are investigated. We focus on the influence of delay and parametric excitation in the system. The influence of parametric excitation, time-delay and feedback gain parameters on the stability of the steady state response are investigated. By means of Melnikov's method, conditions for onset of chaos resulting from heteroclinic bifurcation is derived analytically and numerically.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the asymptotic perturbation method based on the Fourier expansion and the temporal rescaling to investigate the nonlinear oscillations and chaotic dynamics of a simply supported rectangular plate made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) subjected to a through-thickness temperature field together with parametric and external excitations. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent. Based on the Reddy’s third-order plate theory, the governing equations of motion for the plate are derived using the Hamilton’s principle. The Galerkin procedure is employed to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system including the quadratic and cubic nonlinear terms. The resonant case considered here is 1:2 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance. Based on the averaged equation in polar coordinate form, the stability of steady state solutions is analyzed. The phase portrait, waveform and Poincaré map are used to analyze the periodic and chaotic motions of the FGM rectangular plate. It is found that the FGM rectangular plate exhibits the chaotic motions under certain circumstances. It is seen that the nonlinear dynamic responses of the FGM rectangular plate are more sensitive to transverse excitation. The excitation force can be used as a controlling factor which can change the response of the FGM rectangular plate from periodic motion to the chaotic motion.

The objective of this paper is an analytical and numerical study of the dynamics and dynamic instability of a slider-crank mechanism with an inextensible elastic coupler. Special attention is given to the phenomena arising due to modal interactions produced by the existence of multi-component, specifically two-component, parametric resonance. Such modal couplings are very common in the bending-bending motions of fixed/ rotating beams. The two-component parametric resonance occurs when one of the natural frequencies of flexible parts of the mechanism is one-half or twice of the excitation frequency and simultaneously the sums or the differences among the internal frequencies are the same, or neighboring, as the frequency of excitation. The effects of two-component parametric resonance post on instability condition are also investigated. Resonance generated by more than two component modes are neglected due to its remote probability of occurrence in nature. The mechanics of the problem is Newtonian. Methods of analysis will consist of the dynamics of small deformations superimposed on the undeformed state. Without loss of generality and based on the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, the coupled nonlinear equations of motion of a slider-crank mechanism with an inextensible flexible linkage are derived. The Newtons second law is used to obtain the boundary constraints at the piston end. Galerkins procedure was used to remove the dependence of spatial coordinates in the partial differential equations. The method of multiple time scales is applied to consider the steady state solutions and the occurrence of dynamic instability of the resulting multidegree-of-freedom dynamical system with time-periodic coefficients.  相似文献

Based on Donnell shallow shell equations, the nonlinear vibrations and dynamic instability of axially loaded circular cylindrical shells under both static and harmonic forces is theoretically analyzed. First the problem is reduced to a finite degree-of-freedom one by using the Galerkin method; then the resulting set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations of motion are solved by the Runge–Kutta method. To study the nonlinear behavior of the shell, several numerical strategies were used to obtain Poincaré maps, Lyapunov exponents, stable and unstable fixed points, bifurcation diagrams, and basins of attraction. Particular attention is paid to two dynamic instability phenomena that may arise under these loading conditions: parametric excitation of flexural modes and escape from the pre-buckling potential well. Calculations are carried out for the principal and secondary instability regions associated with the lowest natural frequency of the shell. Special attention is given to the determination of the instability boundaries in control space and the identification of the bifurcational events connected with these boundaries. The results clarify the importance of modal coupling in the post-buckling solution and the strong role of nonlinearities on the dynamics of cylindrical shells.  相似文献

In this study, the nonlinear vibrations of an axially moving beam are investigated by considering the coupling of the longitudinal and transversal motion. The Galerkin method is used to truncate the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. By detuning the axially velocity, the exact parameters with which the system may turn to internal resonance are detected. The method of multiple scales is applied to the governing equations to study the nonlinear dynamics of the steady-state response caused by the internal–external resonance. The saturation and jump phenomena of such system have been reported by investigating the nonlinear amplitude–response curves with respect to external excitation, internal, and external detuning parameters. The longitudinal external excitation may trigger only longitudinal response when excitation amplitude is weak. However, beyond the critical excitation amplitude, the response energy will be transferred from the longitudinal motion to the transversal motion even the excitation is employed on the longitudinal direction. Such energy transfer due to saturation has the potential to be used in the vibration suppression.  相似文献

The present paper is focused on the experimental and theoretical analysis of circular cylindrical shells under base excitation. The shell axis is vertical, it is clamped at the base and connected to a rigid body on the top; the base provides a vertical seismic-like excitation. The goal is to investigate the shell response when a resonant harmonic forcing is applied: the first axisymmetric mode is excited around the resonance at relatively low frequency and low amplitude of excitation. A violent resonant phenomenon is experimentally observed as well as an interesting saturation phenomenon close to the previously mentioned resonance. A theoretical model is developed to reproduce the experimental evidence and provide an explanation of the complex dynamics observed experimentally; the model takes into account geometric shell nonlinearities, electrodynamic shaker equations and the shell shaker interaction.  相似文献

In a three-part study, the first part being this paper, the investigation of the three-dimensional nonlinear dynamics of unrestrained and restrained cantilevered pipes conveying fluid is undertaken. The full derivation of the equations of motion in three dimensions for the plain cantilevered pipe is presented first in this paper, using a modified version of Hamilton's principle, adapted for an open system. Intermediate (between the clamped and free end) nonlinear spring constraints are then incorporated into the equations of motion via the method of virtual work. Furthermore, a point mass fixed at the free end of the pipe is also added to the system. The equations of motion are presented in dimensionless form and then discretized with Galerkin's method.  相似文献
