Optical limitation in a 2D nonlinear photonic crystal (NPC) has been studied in this Letter. Since the optical limitation is due to Bragg scattering induced by the variation of nonlinear refractive index, it is sure that the optical limitation can be realized in nonlinear photonic crystal. The light propagation characteristics in a two-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystal with triangular lattice has been calculated by using the finite-difference time-domain algorithm, which is constructed by placing certain number of nonlinear dielectric rods in a linear photonic crystal. The optical limiting effects at 1.300 and 0.504 μm have been obviously obtained for TE polarization and TM polarization, respectively. 相似文献

为了解决光子晶体波导出射端光场控制, 同时解决二维三角晶格光子晶体波导出射光辐射困难的问题。利用二维三角晶格光子晶体设计了一种新型光子晶体波导出射口结构。在二维三角晶格光子晶体波导出射端引入两个微腔, 通过光波与微腔发生共振, 形成类似于三个点光源干涉的出射光, 同时进一步提出波导出射端喇叭口干涉出射光定向辐射的设计。通过这种微腔喇叭口设计, 利用时域有限差分法分析结果表明光波实现很好的定向辐射, 并且辐射距离显著提高。 相似文献

The characteristics of the cladding band structure of air-core photonic crystal fibers with silica rings in triangular lattice are investigated by using a standard plane wave method. The numerical results show that light can be localized in the air core by the photonic band gaps of the fiber. By increasing the air-filling fraction, the band gap edges of the low frequency photonic band gaps shift to shorter wavelength, whereas the band gap width decreases linearly. In order to make a specified light fall in the low frequency band gaps of the fiber, the interplay of the silica ring spacing and the air-filling fraction is also analyzed. It shows that the silica ring spacing increases monotonously when the air-filling fraction is increased, and the spacing range increases exponentially. This type fiber might have potential in infrared light transmission. 相似文献

In this paper, polarization properties and propagation characteristics of rectangular lattice photonic crystal fibers with elliptical air-holes are investigated by using the full-vector finite element method with anisotropic perfectly matched layers. Numerical results show that the birefringence of the fiber is induced by asymmetries of the cladding. Moreover, by adjusting its structure parameters, such as the hole pitch Λ, and the air-hole elliptical rate η, we find the optimized design parameters of the fiber with high birefringence (the order of 10−2) and limited polarization mode dispersion, operating in a single mode region at an appropriate wavelength range. 相似文献

随着全光通信的快速发展, 波分复用传输系统已不能满足高容量光网络的需求, 而模分复用技术利用有限的稳定模式作为独立信道传递信息, 可以成倍地提高系统容量和频谱效率, 是构建未来光网络的关键技术之一. 本文基于掺Bi复合稀土铁石榴石的磁光效应, 设计了1.55 μm波段的二维三角晶格光子晶体模分复用器. 在该光子晶体结构中引入缺陷, 形成模式分束波导, 通过外加磁场改变其在不同偏振模式下的磁导率, 从而控制TE, TM模式的传输, 实现了1.55 μm波段的模分复用. 利用平面波展开法和时域有限差分法对此模分复用器进行了能带和传输特性分析, 结果表明: TE和TM模式的透射率均高于92%, 信道隔离度分别为19.7 dB和42.1 dB. 这些特性在未来的大容量光传输系统中有着重要的应用前景. 相似文献

Imaging properties and negative refraction of the two-dimensional metallic photonic crystal (PC) consisting of a triangular lattice of silver rods immersed in a dielectric is studied. It is found that good-quality image spots and negative refraction with an effective refractive index of ?1 can be achieved for the near-infrared frequency through the adjustment of the metallic PC's lattice constant and the permittivity of the background material together. Drude dispersion model is adopted to describe the silver rod and it is found that the influence of the metal's absorption is trivial to debase the quality of the image spot. 相似文献

We propose a photonic crystal (PC) structure only by replacing square lattice [Luo et al. (2002) [12]] with triangular lattice to obtain an unrestricted imaging. Equal-frequency contours (EFCs) analysis shows that this triangular lattice two-dimensional PC exhibits an effective isotropic refractive index neff=−1 at a normalized frequency ω=0.291×2πc/a. Imaging quality of this triangular lattice PC slab involving both power intensity and full-width at half-maximum intensity of the image is studied using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation. In order to achieve a high-quality image, an appropriate surface termination is chosen. In addition, by adjusting the surface air-hole radius of the PC slab, the imaging quality can be further improved. Coupled-mode theory analysis shows that the optimized surface termination and the adjusted surface air-hole can excite two kinds of surface modes that can couple with the Bloch wave in the PC. With the help of these surface modes, both the intensity of image and the super-resolution capacity of this triangular lattice PC slab can be improved greatly. 相似文献

In this paper, triangular lattice index-guiding photonic crystal fibres (PCFs) are synthesized to compensate the chromatic dispersion of a single mode fibre (SMF-28) for an 80 km optical link operating at 1.55 μm, by using a directed tabu search algorithm. Hole-to-hole distance, circular air-hole diameter, solid-core diameter, ring number and PCF length parameters are optimized for this purpose. Reflectance measurements at variable angle of incidence are performed on GaAs photonic crystal waveguides with unconventional
square lattices. The technique yields the dispersion of photonic bands for the investigated lattices, as first shown by Astratov
et al. [Phys. Rev. B 60, R16225 (1999)]. A sample with a square lattice of air rings and small air fraction yields narrow resonant structures and
a dispersion of photonic modes close to that of free photons. Another sample with a square lattice of dielectric squares and
large air fraction leads to broader structures and to a dispersion of photonic modes which differs strongly for the two polarizations
of light: this sample has a pseudo-gap around 1 micron wavelength. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical
calculations of the reflectance and of the photonic mode dispersion in the photonic crystal slabs.

We propose a power splitter based on two-dimensional photonic crystals with triangular lattice of air holes. The structure can be divided into three sections consisting of the input waveguide, area-defect regions, and output waveguides. The operational principle of the splitter is that an incident field in the frequency range of interest is split into a twofold mode pattern with small distance in the first area-defect and then one of which is shifted by the secondary area-defect regions to output port. We optimize the size of area-defects for the mode-splitting and the shifting from the numerical analysis of distribution of time-averaged Poynting vectors by a finite-difference time domain method. And the transmittance over 45% per each output with a bandwidth about 0.06a/λ is achieved. 相似文献

By means of a plane-wave-based transfer-matrix method, we present an extensive study of propagation loss in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal waveguides with limited cladding wall thickness. We examine the dependence of propagation loss on both the propagation direction and the waveguide wall thickness. It is shown that the propagation loss is a function of excitation frequency, wall thickness and waveguide outermost surface morphology. The conclusion that the propagation loss essentially decays exponentially with respect to the cladding wall thickness of a waveguide is valid only to a certain degree. In addition, we find that the propagation loss exhibit very complex behavior with respect to the excitation frequency. 相似文献

非对称结构光子晶体光纤应用广泛。其良好的偏振特性、灵活的色散调控能力以及低限制损耗品质,对于优化与改善偏振光纤器件、非线性光学光纤、光通信光纤、光纤传感器等性能发挥着关键的作用。选用高折射率铋锗镓激光玻璃为材料,设计了八边形阵列、矩形晶格排列的光子晶体光纤,纤芯缺陷区包层及外包层均为圆形空气孔。模拟实验数据显示,结构参数为M=0.5,0.6时,在波长为1.55 μm处的双折射系数分别为1.16×10−2和1.33×10−2;在近红外波段短波区,矩形晶格结构光子晶体光纤的色散范围分别在±30 ps·nm−1·km−1之间及−18~32 ps·nm−1·km−1之间。色散斜率较低,曲线具有零色散点,展现了良好的连续谱调控能力;在1.00~1.90 μm波段内,当M=0.5,0.6时,光纤限制损耗稳定在10−7~10−9 dB·km−1之间;在1.55 μm处,限制损耗测量值分别为2.32×10−7和1.62×10−8 dB·km−1。 相似文献

A small-size optical interleaver based on directional coupler in a 2D photonic crystal slab with triangular lattice of air holes is designed and theoretically simulated using plane wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain method. The interleaver is formed by two parallel and identical photonic crystal slab waveguides which are separated by three rows of air holes. The coupling region is designed below the light line to avoid vertical radiation. The simulated results show that the coupling coefficient is increased and the final length of the interleaver is decreased by enlarging the radius of the middle row of air holes. The transmission properties are analyzed after the interleaver’s structure is optimized, and around 100 GHz channel spacing can be got when the length of the interleaver is chosen as 40.5 μm. 相似文献

An efficient semi-analytic method is developed for computing the band structures of two-dimensional photonic crystals which are triangular lattices of circular cylinders. The problem is formulated as an eigenvalue problem for a given frequency using the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map of a hexagon unit cell. This is a linear eigenvalue problem even if the material is dispersive, where the eigenvalue depends on the Bloch wave vector. The DtN map is constructed from a cylindrical wave expansion, without using sophisticated lattice sums techniques. The eigenvalue problem can be efficiently solved by standard linear algebra programs, since it involves only matrices of relatively small size. 相似文献

研究了光波在没有光子带隙的三角晶格型光子晶体多模波导中的传播特性. 利用等效折射率法,将该结构等效为三层平板介质波导,基于自映像原理,数值分析和模拟了其多模干涉效应. 研究结果表明,由于全内反射和分布式布拉格反射的联合效应,光场类似于传统波导模式,能高效地传输;随着填充率的增大,高透射区域将向波长减小的方向移动,带宽和透射率也随之增加, 研究结果为实际应用中选择适当的填充率提供了理论依据.

We propose an improved photonic crystal (PC) cladding design for existing air-guiding photonic bandgap (PBG) fibers whose cladding airholes are arranged in a triangular lattice pattern. By increasing the sizes of concentrated silica regions in the cladding PC, we can have a larger degree of freedom in controlling the cladding bandgap regions. We predict that a fiber made from this type of cladding would perform better in terms of the PBG-guiding wavelength range, radiation loss owing to finite cladding size, and the ability to avoid surface mode problems. 相似文献

We propose a novel polarization-maintaining index-guiding photonic crystal fiber (PCF). It is composed of a solid silica core and a cladding with squeezed-hexagonal-lattice elliptical air holes. Using a full-vector finite-element method, we study the modal birefringence of the fundamental modes in such PCFs. Numerical result shows that very high modal birefringence with a magnitude of the order of 10(-2) around 1550 nm has been obtained. Furthermore, large normal dispersion appears over a wide range of wavelengths in both orthogonal polarizations. 相似文献
