A group is said to have finite (special) rank ≤ sif all of its finitely generated subgroups can be generated byselements. LetGbe a locally finite group and suppose thatH/HGhas finite rank for all subgroupsHofG, whereHGdenotes the normal core ofHinG. We prove that thenGhas an abelian normal subgroup whose quotient is of finite rank (Theorem 5). If, in addition, there is a finite numberrbounding all of the ranks ofH/HG, thenGhas an abelian subgroup whose quotient is of finite rank bounded in terms ofronly (Theorem 4). These results are based on analogous theorems on locally finitep-groups, in which case the groupGis also abelian-by-finite (Theorems 2 and 3).  相似文献

We study products of Sylow subgroups of a finite group G. First we prove that G is solvable if and only if G = P1 ... Pm for any choice of Sylow pi-subgroups Pi , where p1,..., pm are all of the distinct prime divisors of |G|, and for any ordering of the pi . Then, for a general finite group G, we show that the intersection of all Sylow products as above is a subgroup of G which is closely related to the solvable radical of G. Abstract

First, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for torsion-free finite rank subgroups of arbitrary abelian groups to be purifiable. An abelian group G is said to be a strongly ADE decomposable group if there exists a purifiable T(G)-high subgroup of G. We use a previous result to characterize ADE decomposable groups of finite torsion-free rank. Finally, in an extreme case of strongly ADE decomposable groups, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for abelian groups of finite torsion-free rank to be splitting.  相似文献

The sizes of Boolean combinations of subgroups G i of a finite abelian group depends only on the Boolean expression, the 0-1-sublattice generated by the G i , and the size of minimal subquotients from this sublattice. Moreover, they increase, monotonically, with those sizes.  相似文献

Finite Groups with Quasinormal Subgroups of Prime Power Order   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let G be a finite group. A subgroup H is quasinormal in G if H permutes with every subgroup of G. We examine the structure of G when certain abelian subgroups of prime power order are quasinormal in G.  相似文献

Let H be a subgroup of a finite group G, and assume that p is a prime that does not divide |G : H|. In favorable circumstances, one can use transfer theory to deduce that the largest abelian p-groups that occur as factor groups of G and of H are isomorphic. When this happens, Tate’s theorem guarantees that the largest not-necessarily-abelian p-groups that occur as factor groups of G and H are isomorphic. Known proofs of Tate’s theorem involve cohomology or character theory, but in this paper, a new elementary proof is given. It is also shown that the largest abelian p-factor group of G is always isomorphic to a direct factor of the largest abelian p-factor group of H. Received: 17 June 2008  相似文献

A subgroup H of G is said to be $\pi$-quasinormal in G if it permute with every Sylow subgroup of G. In this paper, we extend the study on the structure of a finite group under the assumption that some subgroups of G are $\pi$-quasinormal in G. The main result we proved in this paper is the following:Theorem 3.4. Let ${\cal F}$ be a saturated formation containing the supersolvable groups. Suppose that G is a group with a normal subgroup H such that $G/H \in {\cal F}$, and all maximal subgroups of any Sylow subgroup of $F^{*}(H)$ are $\pi$-quasinormal in G, then $G \in {\cal F}$. All normal subloops of a loopG form a modular latticeL n (G). It is shown that a finite loopG has a complemented normal subloop lattice if and only ifG is a direct product of simple subloops. In particular,L n (G) is a Boolean algebra if and only if no two isomorphic factors occurring in a decomposition ofG are abelian groups. The normal subloop lattice of a finite loop is a projective geometry if and only ifG is an elementary abelianp-group for some primep.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. A complete Sylow product of G is a product of Sylow subgroups of G, one for each prime divisor of |G|. We shall call G a Sylow factorizable group if it is equal to at least one of its complete Sylow products. We prove that if G is a Sylow factorizable group then the intersection of all complete Sylow products of G is equal to the solvable radical of G. We generalize the concepts and the result to Sylow products which involve an arbitrary subset of the prime divisors of |G|. Received: 26 January 2005  相似文献

We study notions such as finite presentability and coherence, for partially ordered abelian groups and vector spaces. Typical results are the following: (i) A partially ordered abelian group G is finitely presented if and only if G is finitely generated as a group, G+ is well-founded as a partially ordered set, and the set of minimal elements of G+\ {0} is finite. (ii) Torison-free, finitely presented partially ordered abelian groups can be represented as subgroups of some Zn, with a finitely generated submonoid of (Z+)n as positive cone. (iii) Every unperforated, finitely presented partially ordered abelian group is Archimedean. Further, we establish connections with interpolation. In particular, we prove that a divisible dimension group G is a directed union of simplicial subgroups if and only if every finite subset of G is contained into a finitely presented ordered subgroup.  相似文献

LetX G,H denote the Cayley graph of a finite groupG with respect to a subsetH. It is well-known that its automorphism groupA(XG,H) must contain the regular subgroupL G corresponding to the set of left multiplications by elements ofG. This paper is concerned with minimizing the index [A(XG,H)LG] for givenG, in particular when this index is always greater than 1. IfG is abelian but not one of seven exceptional groups, then a Cayley graph ofG exists for which this index is at most 2. Nearly complete results for the generalized dicyclic groups are also obtained.  相似文献

A subgroup H of a finite group G is said to be complemented in G if there exists a subgroup K of G such that G=HK and HK=1. In this paper, it is proved that a finite group G is p-nilpotent provided p is the smallest prime number dividing the order of G and every minimal subgroup of the p-focal subgroup of G is complemented in NG(P), where P is a Sylow p-subgroup of G. As some applications, some interesting results related with complemented minimal subgroups of focal subgroups are obtained.  相似文献

Abstract

A subgroup of a group G is said to be S-quasinormal in G if it permutes with every Sylow subgroup of G. A subgroup H of a group G is said to be S-quasinormally embedded in G if every Sylow subgroup of H is a Sylow subgroup of some S-quasinormal subgroup of G. In this paper we examine the structure of a finite group G under the assumption that certain abelian subgroups of prime power order are S-quasinormally embedded in G. Our results improve and extend recent results of Ramadan [Ramadan, M. (2001). The influence of S-quasinormality of some subgroups of prime power order on the structure of finite groups. Arch. Math. 77:143–148].  相似文献

A subgroup H of a group G is said to be weakly normal if H g  = H whenever g is an element of G such that H g  ≤ N G (H). There is a strictly relation between weak normality and groups in which normality is a transitive relation ( T-groups). In [Ballester-Bolinches, A., Esteban-Romero, R. (2003). On finite T-groups. J. Aust. Math. Soc. 75:181–191] it is proved that a finite group G is a soluble T-group if and only if every subgroup of G is weakly normal. In this article, we extend the above result to infinite groups having no infinite simple sections. Moreover, it will be shown that every locally graded non-periodic group, all of whose subgroups are weakly normal, is abelian.  相似文献

Letk be any finite or infinite cardinal andS ω the symmetric group of denumerable infinite degree. It is shown that fori<k ifG i is thei-th row of a matrix whose columns are allk-termed sequences of elements ofS ω in each of which all but a finite number of terms are equal to the identity ofS ω thenG i 's (withG i −1 's defined in an obvious way and with coordinatewise multiplication amongG i 's andG i −1's) generate the Free Group onk free generatorsG i . Analogously, Free Abelian and other types of free groups are also constructed. Presented by L. Fuchs.  相似文献

It is known that in a finite solvable group G, a subgroup H is abnormal if and only if every subgroup of G containing H is self-normalizing in G. Although, in general, the assumption of solvability cannot be dropped, in this paper we prove the theorem for the special case G = An and H a second maximal intransitive subgroup of An.Received: 1 July 2003  相似文献

A normal subgroup H of a finite group G is said to be hypercyclically embedded in G if every chief factor of G below H is cyclic. The major aim of the present paper is to characterize the normal hypercyclically embedded subgroups E of a group G by means of the embedding of the maximal and minimal subgroups of the Sylow subgroups of the generalized Fitting subgroup of E.  相似文献
