In this paper, we consider the dividend optimization problem for a financial corporation with transaction costs. Besides the dividend control, the financial corporation takes proportional reinsurance to reduce risk and the surplus earns interest at the constant force ρ>0. Because of the presence of fixed transaction costs, the problem becomes a mixed classical-impulse stochastic control problem. We solve this problem explicitly and construct the value function together with the optimal policy.  相似文献

We consider a broad class of singular stochastic control problems of spectrally negative jump diffusions in the presence of potentially nonlinear state-dependent exercise payoffs. We analyse these problems by relying on associated variational inequalities and state a set of sufficient conditions under which the value of the considered problems can be explicitly derived in terms of the increasing minimal r-harmonic map. We also present a set of inequalities bounding the value of the optimal policy and prove that increased policy flexibility increases both the value of the optimal strategy as well as the rate at which this value grows.  相似文献

We consider a class of stochastic impulse control problems where the controlled process evolves according to a linear, regular, and time homogeneous diffusion. We state a set of easily verifiable sufficient conditions under which the problem is explicitly solvable. We also state an algebraic equation from which the optimal impulse boundary can be determined and, given this threshold, we present the value of the optimal policy in terms of the minimal increasing r-excessive mapping for the controlled diffusion. We also consider the comparative static properties of the optimal policy and state a set of typically satisfied conditions under which increased volatility unambiguously increases the value of the optimal policy and expands the continuation region where exercising the irreversible policy is suboptimal. We also illustrate our results explicitly in two models based on geometric Brownian motion.  相似文献

We consider the optimal sequential irreversible investment policy of a value maximizing firm facing decreasing returns to scale and interest rate uncertainty. We characterize the optimal accumulation policy and its value for a broad class of diffusion models of the short interest rate by focusing on the marginal investment decision and deriving the marginal value of capital explicitly. We also state a set of conditions under which there is a maximal capital stock above which the option to expand productive capacity further in the future becomes valueless. Hence, our results indicate that interest rate uncertainty may limit the size of an optimally investing firm.  相似文献

This paper studies the optimal dividend problem with capital injection under the constraint that the cumulative dividend strategy is absolutely continuous. We consider an open problem of the general spectrally negative case and derive the optimal solution explicitly using the fluctuation identities of the refracted–reflected Lévy process. The optimal strategy as well as the value function is concisely written in terms of the scale function. Numerical results are also provided to confirm the analytical conclusions.  相似文献

We study the optimal reinsurance policy and dividend distribution of an insurance company under excess of loss reinsurance. The objective of the insurer is to maximize the expected discounted dividends. We suppose that in the absence of dividend distribution, the reserve process of the insurance company follows a compound Poisson process. We first prove existence and uniqueness results for this optimization problem by using singular stochastic control methods and the theory of viscosity solutions. We then compute the optimal strategy of reinsurance, the optimal dividend strategy and the value function by solving the associated integro-differential Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman Variational Inequality numerically.  相似文献

We consider the problem of finding the optimal dividend policy for a company whose cash reserve follows a Brownian motion with drift and volatility modulated by an observable finite-state continuous-time Markov chain. The Markov chain represents the regime of the economy. We allow fixed costs and taxes associated with the dividend payments. This optimization problem generates a stochastic impulse control problem with regime switching. We solve this problem and obtain the first analytical solutions for the optimal dividend policy when there are simultaneously fixed costs, taxes and business cycles. Our results show that the optimal dividend policy depends strongly on the regime of the economy, on fixed costs and on taxes.  相似文献

This paper considers an optimal control of a big financial company with debt liability under bankrupt probability constraints. The company, which faces constant liability payments and has choices to choose various production/business policies from an available set of control policies with different expected profits and risks, controls the business policy and dividend payout process to maximize the expected present value of the dividends until the time of bankruptcy. However, if the dividend payout barrier is too low to be acceptable, it may result in the company’s bankruptcy soon. In order to protect the shareholders’ profits, the managements of the company impose a reasonable and normal constraint on their dividend strategy, that is, the bankrupt probability associated with the optimal dividend payout barrier should be smaller than a given risk level within a fixed time horizon. This paper aims at working out the optimal control policy as well as optimal return function for the company under bankrupt probability constraint by stochastic analysis, partial differential equation and variational inequality approach. Moreover, we establish a riskbased capital standard to ensure the capital requirement can cover the total given risk by numerical analysis, and give reasonable economic interpretation for the results.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the optimal dividend problem for the compound Poisson risk model. We assume that dividends are paid to the shareholders according to an admissible strategy with dividend rate bounded by a constant. Our objective is to find a dividend policy so as to maximize the expected discounted value of dividends until ruin. We give sufficient conditions under which the optimal strategy is of threshold type.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a Brownian motion risk model, and in addition, the surplus earns investment income at a constant force of interest. The objective is to find a dividend policy so as to maximize the expected discounted value of dividend payments. It is well known that optimality is achieved by using a barrier strategy for unrestricted dividend rate. However, ultimate ruin of the company is certain if a barrier strategy is applied. In many circumstances this is not desirable. This consideration leads us to impose a restriction on the dividend stream. We assume that dividends are paid to the shareholders according to admissible strategies whose dividend rate is bounded by a constant. Under this additional constraint, we show that the optimal dividend strategy is formed by a threshold strategy.  相似文献

This paper considers the optimal control problem of a large insurance company under a fixed insolvency probability. The company controls proportional reinsurance rate, dividend pay-outs and investing process to maximize the expected present value of the dividend pay-outs until the time of bankruptcy. This paper aims at describing the optimal return function as well as the optimal policy. As a by-product, the paper theoretically sets a risk-based capital standard to ensure the capital requirement that can cover the total risk.  相似文献

We study finite horizon optimal switching problems for hidden Markov chain models with point process observations. The controller possesses a finite range of strategies and attempts to track the state of the unobserved state variable using Bayesian updates over the discrete observations. Such a model has applications in economic policy making, staffing under variable demand levels and generalized Poisson disorder problems. We show regularity of the value function and explicitly characterize an optimal strategy. We also provide an efficient numerical scheme and illustrate our results with several computational examples.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a doubly discrete model used in Dickson and Waters (biASTIN Bulletin 1991; 21 :199–221) to approximate the Cramér–Lundberg model. The company controls the amount of dividends paid out to the shareholders as well as the capital injections which make the company never ruin in order to maximize the cumulative expected discounted dividends minus the penalized discounted capital injections. We show that the optimal value function is the unique solution of a discrete Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation by contraction mapping principle. Moreover, with capital injection, we reduce the optimal dividend strategy from band strategy in the discrete classical risk model without external capital injection into barrier strategy , which is consistent with the result in continuous time. We also give the equivalent condition when the optimal dividend barrier is equal to 0. Although there is no explicit solution to the value function and the optimal dividend barrier, we obtain the optimal dividend barrier and the approximating solution of the value function by Bellman's recursive algorithm. From the numerical calculations, we obtain some relevant economical insights. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper considers the dividend optimization problem for an insurance company under the consideration of internal competition between different units inside the company. The objective is to find a reinsurance policy and a dividend payment scheme so as to maximize the expected discounted value of the dividend payment, and the expected present value of an amount which the insurer earns until the time of ruin. By solving the corresponding constrained Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation, we obtain the value function and the optimal reinsurance policy and dividend payment.  相似文献

This work develops asymptotically optimal dividend policies to maximize the expected present value of dividends until ruin.Compound Poisson processes with regime switching are used to model the surplus and the switching(a continuous-time controlled Markov chain) represents random environment and other economic conditions.Assuming the switching to be fast varying together with suitable conditions,it is shown that the system has a limit that is an average with respect to the invariant measure of a related Markov chain.Under simple conditions, the optimal policy of the limit dividend strategy is a threshold policy.Using the optimal policy of the limit system as a guide, feedback control for the original surplus is then developed. It is demonstrated that the constructed dividend policy is asymptotically optimal.  相似文献

Motivated by economic and empirical arguments, we consider a company whose cash surplus is affected by macroeconomic conditions. Specifically, we model the cash surplus as a Brownian motion with drift and volatility modulated by an observable continuous-time Markov chain that represents the regime of the economy. The objective of the management is to select the dividend policy that maximizes the expected total discounted dividend payments to be received by the shareholders. We study two different cases: bounded dividend rates and unbounded dividend rates. These cases generate, respectively, problems of classical stochastic control with regime switching and singular stochastic control with regime switching. We solve these problems, and obtain the first analytical solutions for the optimal dividend policy in the presence of business cycles. We prove that the optimal dividend policy depends strongly on macroeconomic conditions.  相似文献

Consider the optimal dividend problem for an insurance company whose uncontrolled surplus precess evolves as a spectrally negative Levy process. We assume that dividends are paid to the shareholders according to admissible strategies whose dividend rate is bounded by a constant. The objective is to find a dividend policy so as to maximize the expected discounted value of dividends which are paid to the shareholders until the company is ruined. In this paper, we show that a threshold strategy (also called refraction strategy) forms an optimal strategy under the condition that the Levy measure has a completely monotone density.  相似文献

We study two practical optimization problems in relation to venture capital investments and/or Research and Development (R&D) investments. In the first problem, given the amount of the initial investment and the cash flow structure at the initial public offering (IPO), the venture capitalist wants to maximize overall discounted cash flows after subtracting subsequent investments, which keep the invested company solvent. We describe this problem as a mixture of singular stochastic control and optimal stopping problems. The second problem is concerned with optimal dividend policy. Rather than selling the company at an IPO, the investor may want to harvest technological achievements in the form of dividend when it is appropriate. The optimal control policy in this problem is a mixture of singular and impulse controls. E. Bayraktar was supported in part by the National Science Foundation, under grant DMS-0604491.  相似文献
