Ugi products containing boronate esters

The Ugi reaction with formylphenylboronic acid derivatives as the carbonyl component proceeds to give the corresponding boron-containing dipeptide derivatives (Ugi products) in good yields.      

Ionic liquid promoted synthesis of bis(indolyl) methanes

1-benzyl-3-methyl imidazolium hydrogen sulphate [bnmim][HSO₄] was found to be an effective catalyst for the condensation reaction of indoles and derivatives with benzaldehydes in microwave irradiation with lower reaction time and higher yields to give bis(indolyl) methanes.      

<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-Alkylation of benzimidazoles with ketonic Mannich bases and the reduction of the resulting 1-(3-oxopropyl)benzimidazoles

Benzimidazole, benzimidazoles diversely substituted at position 2, and 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole have been alkylated at N ¹ with ketonic Mannich bases derived from acetophenones, acetylnaphthalenes, 2-acetylthiophene and 1-tetralone to afford a series of novel 1-(3-oxopropyl)benzimidazoles. The reduction of these transamination products with NaBH₄ in methanol produced the corresponding 1-(3-hydroxypropyl)benzimidazoles in excellent yields.      

Equilibrium and kinetic study of the proton transfer reactions between nitroalkanes and strong organic bases — phosphazenes in tetrahydrofuran solvent

Proton transfer reactions rates between carbon acids 1-nitro-1-(4-nitrophenyl)ethane (NPNE), 2-methyl-1-nitro-1-(4-nitrophenyl)propane (MNPNP)) and phosphazenes (BEMP, BTPP, P₁-t-Oct) in tetrahydrofuran have been measured, and the activation parameters were determined. The results are compared with those previously obtained for P₁-t-Bu phosphazene, guanidines and amidines.      

Efficient synthesis of diarylidene octahydroacridines by one-pot multi-component tandem reactions

A one-pot multi-component reaction is developed for the efficient synthesis of 4,5-dibenzylidene octahydroacridines in high yields. The reaction is performed by the tandem reaction of three molar equivalent aromatic aldehydes with two molar equivalent 4-alkylcyclohexanone in the system of NH₄OAc/HOAc under microwave irradiation.      

ZrOCl<Subscript>2</Subscript> · 8H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O: An efficient catalyst for rapid one-pot synthesis of 3-carboxycoumarins under ultrasound irradiation in water

In this report, a rapid, efficient and environmental friendly synthesis of 3-carboxycoumarins under ultrasound irradiation in water media is described. The Knoevenagel condensation of Meldrum’s acid with substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of zirconium oxide chloride (ZrOCl₂·8H₂O) and ultrasonic irradiation in water gave the corresponding 3-carboxycoumarins in good to excellent yields.      

The binary system PbO - BiVO4

Phase equilibria established in the PbO - BiVO₄ system over the whole component concentration range up to 1000°C have been investigated. A phase diagram has been constructed using DTA and XRD.      

Methylcellulose/SiO<Subscript>2</Subscript> hybrids: sol-gel preparation and characterization by XRD,FTIR and AFM

Methylcellulose (MC) / SiO₂ organic / inorganic hybrid materials have been prepared from MC and methyltriethoxysilane or ethyltrimethoxysilane, and characterized by XRD, FTIR and AFM. XRD showed peak shifts. FTIR shows intermolecular hydrogen bonding between MC and SiO₂. AFM depicts surface roughness which depends on the silica precursor and MC content.      

Metathesis transformations of unsaturated derivatives of β-diketones

Selected β-diketones bearing unsaturated derivatives have been demonstrated to undergo homo-metathesis and cross-metathesis with selected olefins in the presence of Grubbs catalysts. The reactions led to respective homo- and cross-metathesis products mainly with good yields and selectivities.      

Efficient and solvent-free synthesis of 1-amidoalkyl-2-naphthols using <Emphasis Type="Italic">N,N,N’,N’</Emphasis>-tetrabromobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide

N,N,N,’N’-Tetrabromobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide [TBBDA] is found to be a reusable catalyst for efficient synthesis of various amidoalkyl naphthols from β-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes and urea in good to high yields under solvent-free conditions.      

Bi(NO3)3 · 5H2O mediated synthesis of 4,4′-diaminotriarylmethane leuco malachite compounds under solvent-free conditions

In this report, we described the synthesis and characterization of a variety of diaminotriarylmethane derivatives with dimethylamino functional groups. These compounds were synthesized by the tandem regio-selective electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction of N,N-dimethylaniline with aryl aldehydes to form the corresponding diaminotriarylmethane compounds. In our strategy, Bi(NO₃)₃ was used as a catalyst under solvent free conditions to afford the desired products in good to excellent yields.      

Synthesis,characterization, catalytic and antimicrobial studies of ruthenium(III) complexes

Ru(III) complexes of the type [RuXB(L)2] have been prepared by the reaction of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones (HL¹–HL⁴) with the precursors of the type [RuX₃B₃] where X=Cl or Br; B=PPh₃ or AsPh₃ and L is the deprotonated ligand. The synthesized complexes were characterized by physico-chemical methods, electrochemical and magnetic moment data. The catalytic efficiency of the complexes were examined in the oxidation of alcohols and antimicrobial studies were also carried out.      

Synthesis, characterization and antitumor activity of Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Mn(II) complex compounds with aminothiazole acetate derivative

This paper presents the synthesis of complex compounds of type [M(L1)₂], where M(II)= Cu (1), Co (2), Zn (3), L1=2-aminothiazole-4-acetate and [Mn(L1)₂(H₂O)] (4) using ethyl 2-(2-aminothiazole-4-yl) acetate (L), and characterization by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibilities, IR, 1H-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and for [Mn(L1)₂(H₂O)] also by X-ray diffraction. In vitro cytotoxicity studies were performed on human cervix adenocarcinoma, HeLa cells. The antitumor selectivity was assessed using normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, PBMC as control.      

Ionic liquids - deanol derivatives as the Diels-Alder reaction solvents

The Diels-Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene and dienophiles in deanol derivatives containing bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion as media have been studied. The effect of the substituents attached to the cation on the endo:exo selectivity as well as the reaction yield have been evaluated in the absence and presence of Lewis acid catalyst - Y(OTf)₃. Catalytic activity of metal triflates and the recycling of chosen catalytic systems have also been investigated      

Synthesis,characterization and antifungal testing of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones containing boronic acids and boronate esters

The addition of formylphenylboronic acid derivatives to thiourea and ethyl acetoacetate proceeds in the presence of an additional Lewis acid catalyst to give the corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones (Biginelli products) in moderate yield. Compounds were tested for antifungal activity against pure cultures of Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae but, unfortunately, none showed any appreciable activity.      

One-pot, three-component condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives, primary amines with alkyl isocyanides to N-alkyl-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-imino-acetamides

One-pot, three-component condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives, primary amines with alkyl isocyanides is reported. N-alkyl-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-iminoacetamide derivatives are generated presumably via the preliminary formation of N, N′-disubstituted benzo[b]furan-2,3-diamines and subsequent oxidation with molecular oxygen.      

Meldola’s Blue — doped titania sol-gel sensor for NADH determination

Titania layers obtained by a sol-gel technique doped with redox mediator, Meldola’s Blue, were employed for construction of a new NADH senor. Optimization of preparation process as well as experimental conditions affecting the response of the sensor were examined. Under optimal conditions NADH could be determined in the wide linear range from 90 to 2300 μM with detection limit 12 μM and a high sensitivity 12.5 nA μM⁻¹. The usefulness of developed sensor was preliminarily checked in determination of NADH forming during enzymatic oxidation of ethanol catalyzed by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH).      

A hydroxyaminophosphane derived from 2-imidazolidone and its unusual structure in solution

A novel hydroxyamino phosphane was synthesised through the reaction of 2-imidazolidinone with ClPPh2 and subsequently reaction of the resulting bisphosphino derivative with the Grignard reagent BrMgC₅H₁₁. The interaction of the pentyl substituent with one of the two phosphino groups and the structure in solution is shown by multinuclear NMR-spectroscopy..      

Ionic liquid promoted Diels-Alder Reaction between anthrone and maleimides

Ionic liquids (IL) are gaining importance as green solvents. Imidazolium ionic liquid [bmim]⁺[Cl]⁻, an environmentally benign solvent, was found to promote the Diels-Alder reaction between anthrone and maleimides at room temperature with excellent yields. The ionic liquid played a dual role as solvent and catalyst.
