Let {vij; i, J = 1, 2, …} be a family of i.i.d. random variables with E(v114) = ∞. For positive integers p, n with p = p(n) and p/ny > 0 as n → ∞, let Mn = (1/n) Vn VnT , where Vn = (vij)1 ≤ ip, 1 ≤ jn, and let λmax(n) denote the largest eigenvalue of Mn. It is shown that a.s. This result verifies the boundedness of E(v114) to be the weakest condition known to assure the almost sure convergence of λmax(n) for a class of sample covariance matrices.  相似文献

We prove that for f ε E = C(G) or Lp(G), 1 p < ∞, where G is any compact connected Lie group, and for n 1, there is a trigonometric polynomial tn on G of degree n so that ftnE Crωr(n−1,f). Here ωr(t, f) denotes the rth modulus of continuity of f. Using this and sharp estimates of the Lebesgue constants recently obtained by Giulini and Travaglini, we obtain “best possible” criteria for the norm convergence of the Fourier series of f.  相似文献

In this paper we prove three conjectures of Revers on Lagrange interpolation for fλ(t)=|t|λ,λ>0, at equidistant nodes. In particular, we describe the rate of divergence of the Lagrange interpolants LN( fλ,t) for 0<|t|<1, and discuss their convergence at t=0. We also establish an asymptotic relation for max|t|1| |t|λLN( fλ,t)|. The proofs are based on strong asymptotics for |t|λLN( fλ,t), 0|t|<1.  相似文献

Denote by (t)=∑n1e−λnt, t>0, the spectral function related to the Dirichlet Laplacian for the typical cell of a standard Poisson–Voronoi tessellation in . We show that the expectation E(t), t>0, is a functional of the convex hull of a standard d-dimensional Brownian bridge. This enables us to study the asymptotic behaviour of E(t), when t→0+,+∞. In particular, we prove that the law of the first eigenvalue λ1 of satisfies the asymptotic relation lnP1t}−2dωdj(d−2)/2d·td/2 when t→0+, where ωd and j(d−2)/2 are respectively the Lebesgue measure of the unit ball in and the first zero of the Bessel function J(d−2)/2.  相似文献

The basic result of the paper states: Let F1, …, Fn, F1,…, Fn have proportional hazard functions with λ1 ,…, λn , λ1 ,…, λn as the constants of proportionality. Let X(1) ≤ … ≤ X(n) (X(1) ≤ … ≤ X(n)) be the order statistics in a sample of size n from the heterogeneous populations {F1 ,…, Fn}({F1 ,…, Fn}). Then (λ1 ,…, λn) majorizes (λ1 ,…, λn) implies that (X(1) ,…, X(n)) is stochastically larger than (X(1) ,…, X(n)). Earlier results stochastically comparing individual order statistics are shown to be special cases. Applications of the main result are made in the study of the robustness of standard estimates of the failure rate of the exponential distribution, when observations actually come from a set of heterogeneous exponential distributions. Further applications are made to the comparisons of linear combinations of Weibull random variables and of binomial random variables.  相似文献

L estimates are derived for the oscillatory integral ∫+0ei(xλ + (1/m) tλm)a(λ) dλ, where 2 ≤ m and (x, t) × +. The amplitude a(λ) can be oscillatory, e.g., a(λ) = eit (λ) with (λ) a polynomial of degree ≤ m − 1, or it can be of polynomial type, e.g., a(λ) = (1 + λ)k with 0 ≤ k ≤ (m − 2). The estimates are applied to the study of solutions of certain linear pseudodifferential equations, of the generalized Schrödinger or Airy type, and of associated semilinear equations.  相似文献

Suppose that {z(t)} is a non-Gaussian vector stationary process with spectral density matrixf(λ). In this paper we consider the testing problemH: ∫ππ K{f(λ)} =cagainstA: ∫ππ K{f(λ)} c, whereK{·} is an appropriate function andcis a given constant. For this problem we propose a testTnbased on ∫ππ K{f(λ)} =c, wheref(λ) is a nonparametric spectral estimator off(λ), and we define an efficacy ofTnunder a sequence of nonparametric contiguous alternatives. The efficacy usually depnds on the fourth-order cumulant spectraf4Zofz(t). If it does not depend onf4Z, we say thatTnis non-Gaussian robust. We will give sufficient conditions forTnto be non-Gaussian robust. Since our test setting is very wide we can apply the result to many problems in time series. We discuss interrelation analysis of the components of {z(t)} and eigenvalue analysis off(λ). The essential point of our approach is that we do not assume the parametric form off(λ). Also some numerical studies are given and they confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

This paper investigates the self-improving integrability properties of the so-called mappings of finite distortion. Let K(x)1 be a measurable function defined on a domain ΩRn, n2, and such that exp(βK(x))Lloc1(Ω), β>0. We show that there exist two universal constants c1(n),c2(n) with the following property: Let f be a mapping in Wloc1,1(Ω,Rn) with |Df(x)|nK(x)J(x,f) for a.e. xΩ and such that the Jacobian determinant J(x,f) is locally in L1 logc1(nL. Then automatically J(x,f) is locally in L1 logc2(nL(Ω). This result constitutes the appropriate analog for the self-improving regularity of quasiregular mappings and clarifies many other interesting properties of mappings of finite distortion. Namely, we obtain novel results on the size of removable singularities for bounded mappings of finite distortion, and on the area distortion under this class of mappings.  相似文献

Let wλ(x)(1−x2)λ−1/2 and Pn(λ) be the ultraspherical polynomials with respect to wλ(x). Then we denote En+1(λ) the Stieltjes polynomials with respect to wλ(x) satisfyingIn this paper, we give estimates for the first and second derivatives of the Stieltjes polynomials En+1(λ) and the product En+1(λ)Pn(λ) by obtaining the asymptotic differential relations. Moreover, using these differential relations we estimate the second derivatives of En+1(λ)(x) and En+1(λ)(x)Pn(λ)(x) at the zeros of En+1(λ)(x) and the product En+1(λ)(x)Pn(λ)(x), respectively.  相似文献

For a fixed integer m ≥ 0, and for n = 1, 2, 3, ..., let λ2m, n(x) denote the Lebesgue function associated with (0, 1,..., 2m) Hermite-Fejér polynomial interpolation at the Chebyshev nodes {cos[(2k−1) π/(2n)]: k=1, 2, ..., n}. We examine the Lebesgue constant Λ2m, n max{λ2m, n(x): −1 ≤ x ≤ 1}, and show that Λ2m, n = λm, n(1), thereby generalising a result of H. Ehlich and K. Zeller for Lagrange interpolation on the Chebyshev nodes. As well, the infinite term in the asymptotic expansion of Λ2m, n) as n → ∞ is obtained, and this result is extended to give a complete asymptotic expansion for Λ2, n.  相似文献

A new class of symmetric polynomials in n variables z = (z1,…, zn), denoted tλ(z), and labelled by partitions λ = [λ1 … λn] is defined in terms of standard tableaux (equivalently, in terms of Gel'fand-Weyl patterns of the general linear group GL(n,C)). The tλ(z) are shown to be a -basis of the ring of all symmetric polynomials in n variables. In contrast to the usual basis sets such as the Schur functions eλ(z), which are homogeneous polynomials in the zi, the tλ(z) are inhomogeneous. This property is reflected in the fact that the tλ(z) are a natural basis for the expansion of certain (inhomogeneous) symmetric polynomials constructed from rising factorials. This and several other properties of the tλ(z) are proved. Two generalizations of the tλ(z) are also given. The first generalizes the tλ(z) to a 1-parameter family of symmetric polynomials, Tλ(α; z), where α is an arbitrary parameter. The Tλ(α; z) are shown to possess properties similar to those of the tλ(z). The second generalizes the tλ(z) to a class of skew-tableau symmetric polynomials, tλ/μ(z), for which only a few preliminary results are given.  相似文献

Denote by xn,k(α,β) and xn,k(λ)=xn,k(λ−1/2,λ−1/2) the zeros, in decreasing order, of the Jacobi polynomial P(α,β)n(x) and of the ultraspherical (Gegenbauer) polynomial Cλn(x), respectively. The monotonicity of xn,k(α,β) as functions of α and β, α,β>−1, is investigated. Necessary conditions such that the zeros of P(a,b)n(x) are smaller (greater) than the zeros of P(α,β)n(x) are provided. A. Markov proved that xn,k(a,b)<xn,k(α,β) (xn,k(a,b)>xn,k(α,β)) for every n and each k, 1kn if a>α and b<β (a<α and b>β). We prove the converse statement of Markov's theorem. The question of how large the function fn(λ) could be such that the products fn(λ)xn,k(λ), k=1,…,[n/2] are increasing functions of λ, for λ>−1/2, is also discussed. Elbert and Siafarikas proved that fn(λ)=(λ+(2n2+1)/(4n+2))1/2 obeys this property. We establish the sharpness of their result.  相似文献

Consider the permanence and global asymptotic stability of models governed by the following Lotka-Volterra-type system:
, with initial conditions
xi(t) = φi(t) ≥ o, tt0, and φi(t0) > 0. 1 ≤ in
. We define x0(t) = xn+1(t)≡0 and suppose that φi(t), 1 ≤ in, are bounded continuous functions on [t0, + ∞) and γi, αi, ci > 0,γi,j ≥ 0, for all relevant i,j.Extending a technique of Saito, Hara and Ma[1] for n = 2 to the above system for n ≥ 2, we offer sufficient conditions for permanence and global asymptotic stability of the solutions which improve the well-known result of Gopalsamy.  相似文献

A residue class a + n with weight λ is denoted by λ, a, n. For a finite system = {λs, as, ns}ks = 1 of such triples, the periodic map w (x) = ∑ns|xas λs is called the covering map of . Some interesting identities for those with a fixed covering map have been known; in this paper we mainly determine all those functions f : Ω → such that ∑ks = 1 λsf(as + ns ) depends only on w where Ω denotes the family of all residue classes. We also study algebraic structures related to such maps f, and periods of arithmetical functions ψ(x) = ∑ks = 1 λseiasx/ns and ω(x) = |{1 ≤ sk : (x + as, ns) = 1}|.  相似文献

Let {Xn} be a strictly stationary φ-mixing process with Σj=1 φ1/2(j) < ∞. It is shown in the paper that if X1 is uniformly distributed on the unit interval, then, for any t [0, 1], |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log log n)3/4) a.s. and sup0≤t≤1 |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = (O(n−3/4(log n)1/2(log log n)1/4) a.s., where Fn and Fn−1(t) denote the sample distribution function and tth sample quantile, respectively. In case {Xn} is strong mixing with exponentially decaying mixing coefficients, it is shown that, for any t [0, 1], |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log n)1/2(log log n)3/4) a.s. and sup0≤t≤1 |Fn−1(t) − t + Fn(t) − t| = O(n−3/4(log n)(log log n)1/4) a.s. The results are further extended to general distributions, including some nonregular cases, when the underlying distribution function is not differentiable. The results for φ-mixing processes give the sharpest possible orders in view of the corresponding results of Kiefer for independent random variables.  相似文献

This paper contains some theorems related to the best approximation ρn(f;E) to a function f in the uniform metric on a compact set by rational functions of degree at most n. We obtain results characterizing the relationship between ρn(f;K) and ρn(f;E) in the case when complements of compact sets K and E are connected, K is a subset of the interior Ω of E, and f is analytic in Ω and continuous on E.  相似文献

Discriminant analysis for locally stationary processes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we discuss discriminant analysis for locally stationary processes, which constitute a class of non-stationary processes. Consider the case where a locally stationary process {Xt,T} belongs to one of two categories described by two hypotheses π1 and π2. Here T is the length of the observed stretch. These hypotheses specify that {Xt,T} has time-varying spectral densities f(u,λ) and g(u,λ) under π1 and π2, respectively. Although Gaussianity of {Xt,T} is not assumed, we use a classification criterion D( f:g), which is an approximation of the Gaussian likelihood ratio for {Xt,T} between π1 and π2. Then it is shown that D( f:g) is consistent, i.e., the misclassification probabilities based on D( f:g) converge to zero as T→∞. Next, in the case when g(u,λ) is contiguous to f(u,λ), we evaluate the misclassification probabilities, and discuss non-Gaussian robustness of D( f:g). Because the spectra depend on time, the features of non-Gaussian robustness are different from those for stationary processes. It is also interesting to investigate the behavior of D( f:g) with respect to infinitesimal perturbations of the spectra. Introducing an influence function of D( f:g), we illuminate its infinitesimal behavior. Some numerical studies are given.  相似文献

This thesis deals with a certain set function called entropy and its ápplications to some problems in classical Fourier analysis. For a set S [0, 1/e] the entropy of S is defined by E(S) = infSkIk,Ik intervals Σk | Ik | log(1/|Ik|). We begin by using notions related to entropy in order to investigate the maximal operator MΩ given by MΩ(f)(x) = supr>0(1/rn) ∫|t| ≤r Ω(t) |f(x + t)| dt, f ε L1(Rn), where Ω is a positive function, homogeneous of degree 0, and satisfying a certain weak smoothness condition. Then the set function entropy is investigated, and certain of its properties are derived. We then apply these to solve various problems in differentiation theory and the theory of singular integrals, deriving in the process, entropic versions of the theorems of Hardy and Littlewood and Calderón and Zygmund.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show that for a certain class of functions f which are analytic in the complex plane possibly minus (−∞, −1], the Abel series f(0) + Σn = 1 f(n)(nβ) z(znβ)n − 1/n! is convergent for all β>0. Its sum is an entire function of exponential type and can be evaluated in terms of f. Furthermore, it is shown that the Abel series of f for small β>0 approximates f uniformly in half-planes of the form Re(z) − 1 + δ, δ>0. At the end of the paper some special cases are discussed.  相似文献
