ABSTRACT

By utilizing a min-biaffine scalarization function, we define the multivariate robust second-order stochastic dominance relationship to flexibly compare two random vectors. We discuss the basic properties of the multivariate robust second-order stochastic dominance and relate it to the nonpositiveness of a functional which is continuous and subdifferentiable everywhere. We study a stochastic optimization problem with multivariate robust second-order stochastic dominance constraints and develop the necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality in the convex case. After specifying an ambiguity set based on moments information, we approximate the ambiguity set by a series of sets consisting of discrete distributions. Furthermore, we design a convex approximation to the proposed stochastic optimization problem with multivariate robust second-order stochastic dominance constraints and establish its qualitative stability under Kantorovich metric and pseudo metric, respectively. All these results lay a theoretical foundation for the modelling and solution of complex stochastic decision-making problems with multivariate robust second-order stochastic dominance constraints.  相似文献

We consider stochastic optimization problems where risk-aversion is expressed by a stochastic ordering constraint. The constraint requires that a random vector depending on our decisions stochastically dominates a given benchmark random vector. We identify a suitable multivariate stochastic order and describe its generator in terms of von Neumann–Morgenstern utility functions. We develop necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality and duality relations for optimization problems with this constraint. Assuming convexity we show that the Lagrange multipliers corresponding to dominance constraints are elements of the generator of this order, thus refining and generalizing earlier results for optimization under univariate stochastic dominance constraints. Furthermore, we obtain necessary conditions of optimality for non-convex problems under additional smoothness assumptions.  相似文献

We use the Strassen theorem to solve stochastic optimization problems with stochastic dominance constraints. First, we show that a dominance-constrained problem on general probability spaces can be expressed as an infinite-dimensional optimization problem with a convenient representation of the dominance constraints provided by the Strassen theorem. This result generalizes earlier work which was limited to finite probability spaces. Second, we derive optimality conditions and a duality theory to gain insight into this optimization problem. Finally, we present a computational scheme for constructing finite approximations along with a convergence rate analysis on the approximation quality.  相似文献

We consider optimization problems with second order stochastic dominance constraints formulated as a relation of Lorenz curves. We characterize the relation in terms of rank dependent utility functions, which generalize Yaari's utility functions. We develop optimality conditions and duality theory for problems with Lorenz dominance constraints. We prove that Lagrange multipliers associated with these constraints can be identified with rank dependent utility functions. The problem is numerically tractable in the case of discrete distributions with equally probable realizations. In this paper, we present higher-order analysis of necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for problems with inequality constraints. The paper addresses the case when the constraints are not assumed to be regular at a solution of the optimization problems. In the first two theorems derived in the paper, we show how Karush–Kuhn–Tucker necessary conditions reduce to a specific form containing the objective function only. Then we present optimality conditions of the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker type in Banach spaces under new regularity assumptions. After that, we analyze problems for which the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker form of optimality conditions does not hold and propose necessary and sufficient conditions for those problems. To formulate the optimality conditions, we introduce constraint qualifications for new classes of nonregular nonlinear optimization. The approach of p-regularity used in the paper can be applied to various degenerate nonlinear optimization problems due to its flexibility and generality.  相似文献

We establish new necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for global optimization problems. In particular, we establish tractable optimality conditions for the problems of minimizing a weakly convex or concave function subject to standard constraints, such as box constraints, binary constraints, and simplex constraints. We also derive some new necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for quadratic optimization. Our main theoretical tool for establishing these optimality conditions is abstract convexity.  相似文献

In this paper, we present Lagrange multiplier necessary conditions for global optimality that apply to non-convex optimization problems beyond quadratic optimization problems subject to a single quadratic constraint. In particular, we show that our optimality conditions apply to problems where the objective function is the difference of quadratic and convex functions over a quadratic constraint, and to certain class of fractional programming problems. Our necessary conditions become necessary and sufficient conditions for global optimality for quadratic minimization subject to quadratic constraint. As an application, we also obtain global optimality conditions for a class of trust-region problems. Our approach makes use of outer-estimators, and the powerful S-lemma which has played key role in control theory and semidefinite optimization. We discuss numerical examples to illustrate the significance of our optimality conditions. The authors are grateful to the referees for their useful comments which have contributed to the final preparation of the paper.  相似文献

Multivariate cubic polynomial optimization problems, as a special case of the general polynomial optimization, have a lot of practical applications in real world. In this paper, some necessary local optimality conditions and some necessary global optimality conditions for cubic polynomial optimization problems with mixed variables are established. Then some local optimization methods, including weakly local optimization methods for general problems with mixed variables and strongly local optimization methods for cubic polynomial optimization problems with mixed variables, are proposed by exploiting these necessary local optimality conditions and necessary global optimality conditions. A global optimization method is proposed for cubic polynomial optimization problems by combining these local optimization methods together with some auxiliary functions. Some numerical examples are also given to illustrate that these approaches are very efficient.  相似文献

In this paper, by virtue of the image space analysis, the general scalar robust optimization problems under the strictly robust counterpart are considered, among which, the uncertainties are included in the objective as well as the constraints. Besides, on the strength of a corrected image in a new type, an equivalent relation between the uncertain optimization problem and its image problem is also established, which provides an idea to tackle with minimax problems. Furthermore, theorems of the robust weak alternative as well as sufficient characterizations of robust optimality conditions are achieved on the frame of the linear and nonlinear (regular) weak separation functions. Moreover, several necessary and sufficient optimality conditions, especially saddle point sufficient optimality conditions for scalar robust optimization problems, are obtained. Finally, a simple example for finding a shortest path is included to show the effectiveness of the results derived in this paper.  相似文献

A class of stochastic optimization problems is analyzed that cannot be solved by deterministic and standard stochastic approximation methods. We consider risk-control problems, optimization of stochastic networks and discrete event systems, screening irreversible changes, and pollution control. The results of Ermoliev et al. are extended to the case of stochastic systems and general constraints. It is shown that the concept of stochastic mollifier gradient leads to easily implementable computational procedures for systems with Lipschitz and discontinuous objective functions. New optimality conditions are formulated for designing stochastic search procedures for constrained optimization of discontinuous systems.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop necessary conditions for global optimality that apply to non-linear programming problems with polynomial constraints which cover a broad range of optimization problems that arise in applications of continuous as well as discrete optimization. In particular, we show that our optimality conditions readily apply to problems where the objective function is the difference of polynomial and convex functions over polynomial constraints, and to classes of fractional programming problems. Our necessary conditions become also sufficient for global optimality for polynomial programming problems. Our approach makes use of polynomial over-estimators and, a polynomial version of a theorem of the alternative which is a variant of the Positivstellensatz in semi-algebraic geometry. We discuss numerical examples to illustrate the significance of our optimality conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we study second-order optimality conditions for multiobjective optimization problems. By means of different second-order tangent sets, various new second-order necessary optimality conditions are obtained in both scalar and vector optimization. As special cases, we obtain several results found in the literature (see reference list). We present also second-order sufficient optimality conditions so that there is only a very small gap with the necessary optimality conditions. The authors thank Professor P.L. Yu and the referees for valuable comments and helpful suggestions.  相似文献

We consider distributionally robust two-stage stochastic convex programming problems, in which the recourse problem is linear. Other than analyzing these new models case by case for different ambiguity sets, we adopt a unified form of ambiguity sets proposed by Wiesemann, Kuhn and Sim, and extend their analysis from a single stochastic constraint to the two-stage stochastic programming setting. It is shown that under a standard set of regularity conditions, this class of problems can be converted to a conic optimization problem. Numerical results are presented to show the efficiency of the distributionally robust approach.  相似文献

The Lagrangian function in the conventional theory for solving constrained optimization problems is a linear combination of the cost and constraint functions. Typically, the optimality conditions based on linear Lagrangian theory are either necessary or sufficient, but not both unless the underlying cost and constraint functions are also convex. We propose a somewhat different approach for solving a nonconvex inequality constrained optimization problem based on a nonlinear Lagrangian function. This leads to optimality conditions which are both sufficient and necessary, without any convexity assumption. Subsequently, under appropriate assumptions, the optimality conditions derived from the new nonlinear Lagrangian approach are used to obtain an equivalent root-finding problem. By appropriately defining a dual optimization problem and an alternative dual problem, we show that zero duality gap will hold always regardless of convexity, contrary to the case of linear Lagrangian duality.  相似文献

A stochastic approximation algorithm for minimax optimization problems is analyzed. At each iterate, it performs one random experiment, based on which it computes a direction vector. It is shown that, under suitable conditions, it a.s. converges to the set of points satisfying necessary optimality conditions. The algorithm and its analysis bring together ideas from stochastic approximation and nondifferentiable optimization.  相似文献

In this paper, we first establish some sufficient and some necessary global optimality conditions for quadratic integer programming problems. Then we present a new local optimization method for quadratic integer programming problems according to its necessary global optimality conditions. A new global optimization method is proposed by combining its sufficient global optimality conditions, local optimization method and an auxiliary function. The numerical examples are also presented to show that the proposed optimization methods for quadratic integer programming problems are very efficient and stable.  相似文献

We introduce a generalized equilibrium problem (GEP) that allow us to develop a robust dual scheme for this problem, based on the theory of conjugate functions. We obtain a unified dual analysis for interesting problems. Indeed, the Lagrangian duality for convex optimization is a particular case of our dual problem. We establish necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for GEP that become a well-known theorem given by Mosco and the dual results obtained by Morgan and Romaniello, which extend those introduced by Auslender and Teboulle for a variational inequality problem.  相似文献

Stochastic dominance relations are well studied in statistics, decision theory and economics. Recently, there has been significant interest in introducing dominance relations into stochastic optimization problems as constraints. In the discrete case, stochastic optimization models involving second order stochastic dominance constraints can be solved by linear programming. However, problems involving first order stochastic dominance constraints are potentially hard due to the non-convexity of the associated feasible regions. In this paper we consider a mixed 0–1 linear programming formulation of a discrete first order constrained optimization model and present a relaxation based on second order constraints. We derive some valid inequalities and restrictions by employing the probabilistic structure of the problem. We also generate cuts that are valid inequalities for the disjunctive relaxations arising from the underlying combinatorial structure of the problem by applying the lift-and-project procedure. We describe three heuristic algorithms to construct feasible solutions, based on conditional second order constraints, variable fixing, and conditional value at risk. Finally, we present numerical results for several instances of a real world portfolio optimization problem. This research was supported by the NSF awards DMS-0603728 and DMI-0354678.  相似文献
