A sensitive voltammetric method for detection of trace heavy metal ions using chemically modified carbon nanotubes (CNTs) electrode surfaces is described. The CNTs were covalently modified with cysteine prior to casting on electrode surfaces. Cysteine is an amino acid with high affinities towards some heavy metals. In this assay, heavy metals ions accumulated on the cysteine‐modified CNT electrode surfaces prior to being subjected to differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry analysis. The resulting peak currents were linearly related to the concentrations of the metal ions. The method was optimized with respect to accumulation time, reduction time and reduction potential. The detection limits were found to be 1 ppb and 15 ppb for Pb2+ and Cu2+ respectively. The technique was used for the detection of Pb2+ and Cu2+ in spiked lake water. The average recoveries of Pb2+ and Cu2+ were 96.2% and 94.5% with relative standard deviations of 8.43% and 7.53% respectively. The potential for simultaneous detection of heavy metal ions by the modified CNTs was also demonstrated.  相似文献

A simple and highly sensitive electrochemical sensor COOH−C4 derived from dicarboxyl‐calix[4]arene modified on a screen printed gold electrode (Au) was developed for the determination of lead ions in water samples. A 3‐mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) monolayer was used as a template on the gold electrode for the surface modification with dicarboxyl‐calixarene. The modified electrodes were surface‐characterized using Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The data obtained proved the confirmation of each stage of the electrode modification. The electrochemical analyses of the COOH−C4 electrode showed an enhanced electrocatalytic activity and higher current towards Pb2+ ions as compared to the bare Au and MPA/Au electrodes. Under optimum conditions, the differential pulse voltammetry response of COOH−C4 displayed a wide linear response ranging from 280–2500 μg/L for Pb2+ with a detection limit of 6.2 μg/L. In addition, the fabricated electrode showed a high selectivity and stability towards the Pb2+ ions in presence of possible interfering species. The present method was successfully applied to determine Pb2+ ions in real samples with satisfactory precision, with a relative standard deviation of 3.12 % and an acceptable recovery of 92 %, which demonstrated the potential application of dicarboxyl‐calix[4]arene modified on electrodes for heavy‐metal sensing.  相似文献

A green and facile method was developed to prepare a novel hybrid nanocomposite that consisted of one-dimensional multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and two-dimensional graphene oxide (GO) sheets. The as-prepared three-dimensional GO–MWCNTs hybrid nanocomposites exhibit excellent water-solubility owing to the high hydrophilicity of GO components; meanwhile, a certain amount of MWCNTs loaded on the surface of GO sheets through π–π interaction seem to be “dissolved” in water. Moreover, the graphene(G)-MWCNTs nanocomposites with excellent conductivity were obtained conveniently by the direct electrochemical reduction of GO–MWCNTs nanocomposites. Seeing that there is a good synergistic effect between MWCNTs and graphene components in enhancing preconcentration efficiency of metal ions and accelerating electron transfer rate at G-MWCNTs/electrolyte interface, the G-MWCNTs nanocomposites possess fast, simultaneous and sensitive detection performance for trace amounts of heavy metal ions. The electrochemical results demonstrate that the G-MWCNTs nanocomposites can act as a kind of practical sensing material to simultaneously determine Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions in terms of anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). The linear calibration plots for Pb2+ and Cd2+ ranged from 0.5 μg L−1 to 30 μg L−1. The detection limits were determined to be 0.2 μg L−1 (S/N = 3) for Pb2+ and 0.1 μg L−1 (S/N = 3) for Cd2+ in the case of a deposition time of 180 s. It is worth mentioning that the G-MWCNTs modified electrodes were successfully applied to the simultaneous detection of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions in real electroplating effluent samples containing lots of surface active impurities, showing a good application prospect in the determination of trace amounts of heavy metals.  相似文献

A new sensor has been developed for the simultaneous detection of cadmium, lead, copper and mercury, using differential pulse and square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV and SWASV) at a graphite–polyurethane composite electrode with SBA‐15 silica organofunctionalized with 2‐benzothiazolethiol as bulk modifier. The heavy metal ions were preconcentrated on the surface of the modified electrode at ?1.1 V vs. SCE where they complex with 2‐benzothiazolethiol and are reduced to the metals, and are then reoxidized. Optimum SWASV conditions lead to nanomolar detection limits and simultaneous determination of Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+ in natural waters was achieved.  相似文献

A chemical sensor for metal ions was fabricated based on a water‐soluble conjugated polymer–graphene oxide (GO) composite. Water‐soluble poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene) (PPE) with sulfonic acid side chain groups was used to prepare a very stable water‐soluble PPE–GO composite with strong π–π interactions in water. The relationship between the optical properties and metal ion sensing capability of the PPE–GO composite in aqueous solution was investigated. Addition of metal ions enhanced the fluorescence intensity of the composite, and, in particular, the composite enabled the fluorescence detection of Cu2+ in aqueous solutions with high selectivity and sensitivity. Therefore, this conjugated polymer–GO composite sensor system was found to be an effective turn‐on type chemical sensor for metal ions. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A BiNPs@NPCGS nanocomposite was designed for highly efficient detection of multiple heavy‐metal ions by in situ synthesis of bismuth‐nanoparticle (BiNP)‐enriched nanoporous carbon (NPS) on graphene sheet (GS). The NPCGS was prepared by pyrolysis of zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 (ZIF‐8) nanocrystals deposited on graphene oxide and displayed a high surface area of 1251 m2 g?1 and a pore size of 3.4 nm. BiNPs were deposited on NPCGS in situ by chemical reduction of Bi3+ with NaBH4. Due to the restrictive effect of the pore/surface structure of NPCGS, the BiNPs were uniform and well dispersed on the NPCGS. The BiNPs@NPCGS showed good conductivity and high effective area, and the presence of BiNPs allowed it to act as an efficient material for anodic‐stripping voltammetric detection of heavy‐metal ions. Under optimized conditions, the BiNPs@NPCGS‐based sensor could simultaneously determine Pb2+ and Cd2+ with detection limits of 3.2 and 4.1 nM , respectively. Moreover, the proposed sensor could also differentiate Tl+ from Pb2+ and Cd2+. Owing to its advantages of simple preparation, environmental friendliness, high surface area, and fast electron‐transfer ability, BiNPs@NPCGS showed promise for practical application in sensing heavy‐metal ions.  相似文献

In the present work, a signal‐on electrochemical sensing strategy for the simultaneous detection of adenosine and thrombin is developed based on switching structures of aptamers. An Au electrode as the sensing surface is modified with two kinds of thiolated capture probes complementary to the linker DNA that contains either an adenosine aptamer or thrombin aptamer. The capture probes hybridize with their corresponding linker DNA, which has prehybridized with the reporter DNA loaded onto the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The AuNP contained two kinds of bio‐barcode DNA: one is complementary to the linker DNA (reporter), whereas the other is not (signal) and is tagged with different metal sulfide nanoparticles. Thus a “sandwich‐type” sensing interface is fabricated for adenosine and thrombin. With the introduction of adenosine and thrombin, the aptamer parts bind with their targets and fold to form the complex structures. As a result, the bio‐barcoded AuNPs are released into solution. The metal sulfide nanoparticles are measured by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV), and the concentrations of adenosine and thrombin are proportional to the signal of either metal ion. With the dual amplification of the bio‐barcoded AuNP and the preconcentration of metal ions through ASV technology, detection limits as low as 6.6×10?12 M for adenosine and 1.0×10?12 M for thrombin are achieved. The sensor exhibits excellent selectivity and detectability in biological samples.  相似文献

Highly selective and low‐cost optical nanosensors of organic–inorganic hybrid materials for heavy metal ions detection have been prepared via the functionalization of mesoporous silica (SBA‐16) with chalcone fluorescent chromophores. The successful attachment of organic chalcone moieties and preservation of original structure of SBA‐16 after the anchoring process were confirmed by extensive characterizations using various techniques like Fourier transform infrared and UV–visible spectroscopies, transmission electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, low‐angle X‐ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. The colorimetric behaviour, selectivity and sensitivity were also investigated. The optical nanosensors respond selectively to heavy metal ions, such as Mn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+, with observable colour changes in 0.01 M Tris–HCl aqueous buffer solution. Also, the optical sensing ability of the investigated nanosensors to the mentioned metal ions was investigated using steady‐state absorption and emission techniques. Significant increase in the absorption spectra and a static quenching in the emission spectra are observed upon adding various concentrations of the studied metal ions. The spectral changes as well as the observable colour changes suggest that the investigated nanosensors are suitable for simple, economic, online analysis and remote design of these toxic metal ions with fast kinetic responses. Finally, the low detection limits for all the studied metals are in good agreement with those recommended by both the US Environmental Protection Agency and World Health Organization, except for Hg2+ and Cd2+, indicating that the investigated nanosensors have hypersensitivity, selectivity and better recognition for all the studied metal ions.  相似文献

Here, we report a new carboxylic‐functionalized water soluble π‐conjugated polymer for selective detection of highly toxic Hg2+ in neutral pH condition. carboxylic‐functionalized thiophene containing oligophenylenevinylene was synthesized and polymerized under oxidative route to obtain water soluble polymer. Free carboxylic groups present in the π‐conjugated materials provide opportunity to use pH as external stimuli for studying secondary interaction such as hydrogen bonding and aromatic π‐stacking of the chromophores. The pH changes strongly influence on the molecular interactions in the monomer, whereas the long chain polymer was less disturbed. The polymer showed high selectivity for detecting Hg2+ ions compared with any other transition metal ions in water. The detection efficiency of the polymer was found almost 40 times higher than that of its monomeric unit. Stern‐Volmer constant for the Hg2+ ion sensing was determined through concentration dependent studies as 6.4 × 105 M?1. The carboxylic‐functionalized polymer showed reversibility in the metal‐ion detecting capabilities which was further investigated by NaCl complexation with Hg2+ complex. Both funneling of excitation energy to the Hg2+ center and also excitation energy migration through chain π‐conjugated backbone were correlated to the superior sensing characteristics of the polymer compared to its monomeric counterpart. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graphene oxide (GO), an up‐and‐coming material rich in oxygenated groups, shows much promise in pollution management. GO is synthesised using several synthetic routes, and the adsorption behaviour of GO is investigated to establish its ability to remove the heavy‐metal pollutants of lead and cadmium ions. The GO is synthesised by Hummers’ (HU), Hofmann’s (HO) and Staudenmaier’s (ST) methodologies. Characterisation of GO is performed before and after adsorption experiments to investigate the structure–function relationship by using Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy coupled with elemental detection spectroscopy is used to investigate morphological changes and heavy‐metal content in the adsorbed GO. The filtrate, collected after adsorption, is analysed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, through which the efficiency and adsorption capacity of each GO for heavy‐metal‐ion removal is obtained. Spectroscopic analysis and characterisation reveal that the three types of GO have different compositions of oxygenated carbon functionalities. The trend in the affinity towards both PbII and CdII is HU GO>HO GO>ST GO. A direct correlation between the number of carboxyl groups present and the amount of heavy‐metal ions adsorbed is established. The highest efficiency and highest adsorption capacity of heavy‐metal ions is achieved with HU, in which the relative abundance of carboxyl groups is highest. The embedded systematic study reveals that carboxyl groups are the principal functionality responsible for heavy‐metal‐ion removal in GO. The choice of synthesis methodology for GO has a profound influence on heavy‐metal‐ion adsorption. A further enrichment of the carboxyl groups in GO will serve to enhance the role of GO as an adsorbent for environmental clean‐up.  相似文献

Doping and functionalization could significantly assist in the improvement of the electrochemical properties of graphene derivatives. Herein, we report a one-pot synthesis of fluorinated graphene oxide (FGO) from graphite. The surface morphology, functionalities and composition of the resulting FGO have been studied using various surface characterization techniques, revealing that layer-structured nanosheets with ~ 1.0 at.% F were formed. The carbon bound F exhibited semi-ionic bonding characteristic and significantly increased the capacitance of FGO compared to GO. Further, the FGO has been employed for the simultaneous detection of heavy metal ions Cd2 +, Pb2 +, Cu2 + and Hg2 + using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry; and a substantial improvement in the electrochemical sensing performance is achieved in comparison with GO.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) has been prepared by the modified Hummers method using graphite as starting material. The product was studied by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopic, transmission electron microscopic (TEM), and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analyses. Adsorption capacity of GO for heavy metal ions was studied for the example of the Ni2+ ions and the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm were determined. It was shown that the adsorption equilibrium curves are adequately described by the Langmuir equation.  相似文献

Herein, a simple electrochemical sensor was fabricated for sensing Hg2+ ions by using electrochemically reduced p‐nitrobenzoic acid molecules modified (ERpNBA) glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The modified electrode was applied for the determination of Hg2+ ions by using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). Experimental parameters such as concentration of p‐nitrobenzoic acid used for electrode modification, pH, accumulation time and deposition potential used for the determination of Hg2+ ions were optimized. The strong interaction between the Hg2+ ions and the lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atoms of ERpNBA molecules leads to highly selective adsorption of Hg2+ ions on the modified electrode. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the sensor showed higher sensitivity and very low detection limit for Hg2+ ions than other metal ions such as Cd2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions. The LOD for Hg2+ ions was 240 pM which is below the guideline value given by the World Health Organization and the earlier reports.  相似文献

Nanostructured magnesium silicate hollow spheres, one kind of non-conductive nanomaterials, were used in heavy metal ions (HMIs) detection with enhanced performance for the first time. The detailed study of the enhancing electrochemical response in stripping voltammetry for simultaneous detection of ultratrace Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+ was described. Electrochemical properties of modified electrodes were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The operational parameters which have influence on the deposition and stripping of metal ions, such as supporting electrolytes, pH value, and deposition time were carefully studied. The anodic stripping voltammetric performance toward HMIs was evaluated using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) analysis. The detection limits achieved (0.186 nM, 0.247 nM, 0.169 nM and 0.375 nM for Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+) are much lower than the guideline values in drinking water given by the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, the interference and stability of the modified electrode were also investigated under the optimized conditions. An interesting phenomenon of mutual interference between different metal ions was observed. Most importantly, the sensitivity of Pb2+ increased in the presence of certain concentrations of other metal ions, such as Cd2+, Cu2+ and Hg2+ both individually and simultaneously. The proposed electrochemical sensing method is thus expected to open new opportunities to broaden the use of SWASV in analysis for detecting HMIs in the environment.  相似文献

A water in soluble long‐chain crown ether alkyl (C18)‐benzo‐15‐crown‐5 was synthesized and applied as a coating material on quartz crystal membranes of a liquid flow piezo electric crystal sensor. The oscillating crown ether‐coated piezo electric (PZ) crystal with a home‐made computer inter face was prepared as a liquid chromato graphic (LC) detector for organic species and metal ions in aqueous solutions. The oscillating frequency of the quartz crystal decreased due to the adsorption of organic molecules or metal ions on crown ether molecules. Effects of functional group, molar mass, steric hindrance, and polarity of organic molecules on frequency responses of the crown ether coated PZ crystal detector were investigated. The frequency responses of the crown ether coated PZ crystal detector for various molecules were in the order: amines > carboxylic acids > alcohols > ketones. The crown ether PZ detector also exhibited good sensitivity for some heavy metal ions and the frequency shifts were in the order: Cr3+ » Pb2+ > Co2+ > Cd2+ > Ni2+ > Cu2+. The crown ether coated piezo electric crystal LC detector demonstrated low detection limits for various polar organic molecules, e.g., 6.0 × 10?5 M for propylamine, and metal ions, e.g., 2.9 × 10?5 M (1.8 ppm) for Cu2+; the crown ether PZ detector also gave good reproducibility when re used. A quite sensitive electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) detection system was also set‐up for detecting trace heavy metal ions in solutions. The variation in frequency of the PZ crystal and the diffusion current were observed simultaneously after the reduction in heavy metal ions such as Cu2+ and Ni2+. The EQCM detection system exhibited fairly good sensitivity, e.g., 112 Hz/ppm for Cu2+ and a good detection limit, e.g., 0.13 ppm for Cu2+ ions. Comparison between EQCM and PZ detection systems was made and discussed.  相似文献

Carboxylated peptide‐functionalized gold nanoparticles (peptide‐GNPs) self‐assemble into two‐ and three‐dimensional nanostructures in the presence of various heavy metal ions (i.e. Pb2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) in aqueous solution. The assembly process is monitored by following the changes in the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of gold nanoparticles in a UV/Vis spectrophotometer, which shows the development of a new SPR band in the higher‐wavelength region. The extent of assembly is dependent on the amount of metal ions present in the medium and also the time of assembly. TEM analysis clearly shows formation of two‐ and three‐dimensional nanostructures. The assembly process is completely reversible by addition of alkaline ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) solution. The driving force for the assembly of peptide‐GNPs is mainly metal ion/carboxylate coordination. The color and spectral changes due to this assembly can be used for detection of these heavy‐metal ions in solution.  相似文献

In the present work, a sensitive, facile and disposable sensing platform for trace analysis of heavy metal ions was developed at the Bi modified graphene‐poly(sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate) composite film screen printed electrode (GR/PSS/Bi/SPE). The GR/PSS/Bi/SPE improved sensitivity and linearity due to the functionalization of graphene with negatively charged PSS providing more absorbing sites. The detection limit of the GR/PSS/Bi/SPE is found to be 0.042 µg L?1 for Cd2+ and 0.089 µg L?1 for Pb2+ with linear responses of Cd2+ and Pb2+ in the range of 0.5–120 µg L?1. Finally, the practical application was confirmed in real water with satisfactory results.  相似文献

The monitoring of heavy metal ions particularly in water is important in safeguarding the environment and humans from the toxic effects these metal ions pose. This work describes the synthesis, characterization and electrocatalytic properties of silica-coated iron oxide nanoparticles (Si-NP) in the presence of cobalt or iron phthalocyanines (MPc) for heavy metal (HM) detection. TEM, XRD, XPS and VSM confirmed the successful synthesis of Si-NP with an average diameter of 12.07 nm. The electrochemical sensing properties of MPc/Si-NP-modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were assessed for HM detection. Differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) studies indicated detection limits that compared positively with the literature. The FePc/Si-NP composite showed the lowest detection limits (S/N?=?3) of 3.66, 11.56, 2.28, 4.54 μg L?1 for arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) and lead (Pb), respectively. A linear working range of 10–100 μg L?1 was obtained for As3+, Hg2+ and Pb2+ ions while it was between 20 and 100 μg L?1 for Cd2+ ions. Both composites displayed reproducible signals for the simultaneous detection of the HMs for ten consecutive scans. These composites offer a cheap and simplistic sensing device for HM analysis.  相似文献

3‐Hydroxy‐N,N‐diethylaniline (HDEA) as a tertiary aromatic amine was introduced onto the surface of chloromethylated polysulfone (CMPSF) microfiltration membrane through modification reaction, resulting in the modified membrane PSF‐DEA. A redox surface‐initiating system (DEA/APS) was constituted by the bonded tertiary aromatic amine group DEA and ammonium persulfate (APS) in aqueous solution, and so, the free radicals formed on the membrane initiated sodium p‐styrenesulfonate (SSS) as an anionic monomer to produce graft polymerization, getting the grafting‐type composite microfiltration membrane, PSF‐g‐PSSS membrane. Subsequently, the adsorption property of PSF‐g‐PSSS membrane for three heavy metal ions, Pb2+, Zn2+, and Hg2+ ions, was fully examined, and the rejection performance of PSF‐g‐PSSS membrane towards the three heavy metal ions was emphatically evaluated via permeation experiments. The experimental results show that by the initiating of the surface‐initiating system of DEA/APS, the graft polymerization can smoothly be carried out under mild conditions. PSF‐g‐PSSS membrane as a functional microfiltration membrane has strong adsorption ability for heavy metal ions by right of strong electrostatic interaction (or ion exchange action) between the anionic sulfonate ions on the membrane and heavy metal ions. The order of adsorption capacity is Pb2+ > Zn2+ > Hg2+, and the adsorption capacity of Pb2+ ion gets up to 2.18 μmol/cm2. As the volume of permeation solutions, in which the concentrations of the three metal ions are 0.2 mmol/L, are in a range of 50 to 70 mL, the rejection rate of PSF‐g‐PSSS membrane for the three heavy metal ions can reach a level of 95%, displaying a fine rejection and removing performance towards heavy metal ions.  相似文献

In the present study, surface‐enhanced Raman spectra of a bifunctional Raman reporter, 2‐mercaptobenzimidazole, has been found to be responsive exclusively towards Cu2+ ions while the reporter remains anchored on the Au nanoparticle surface. Thus a specific Cu2+‐ion‐detection protocol emerges. The simplicity, sensitivity, and reproducibility of the method allow routine and quantitative detection of Cu2+ ions. An interference study involving a wide number of other metal ions shows the procedure to be uniquely selective and analytically rigorous. A theoretical study was carried out to corroborate the experimental results. Finally, the method is promising for real‐time assessment of Cu2+ ions in aqueous samples and also has the ability to discriminate CuI and CuII ions in solution.  相似文献
