The structure function S(k; ) for the one-dimensional one-component log–gas is the Fourier transform of the charge–charge, or equivalently the density–density, correlation function. We show that for |k|j in the power series expansion of f(k; ) about k=0 is of the form of a polynomial in /2 of degree j divided by (/2)j. The bulk of the paper is concerned with calculating these polynomials explicitly up to and including those of degree 9. It is remarked that the small k expansion of S(k; ) for the two-dimensional one-component plasma shares some properties in common with those of the one-dimensional one-component log–gas, but these break down at order k8.  相似文献

A quadratic space is a generalization of a Hilbert space. The geometry of certain kinds of subspaces (closed, splitting, etc.) is approached from the purely lattice theoretic point of view. In particular, theorems of Mackey and Kaplansky are given purely lattice theoretic proofs. A system of coordinates on a set of selfdual lattices in a two-dimensionalp-adic symplectic space (V,) is suggested. A unitary irreducible representation of the Heisenberg group of the space (V,) depending on a lattice (an analogue of the Cartier representation) is constructed and its properties are investigated. By the use of such representations for three different lattices one defines the Maslov index =(1,2,3) of a triple of lattices. The potentials of an electromagnetic field of multipoles in a dielectric, which is realized by a dielectric sphere having a perfectly conducting surface, are derived. The diagonal values of the energy for thez component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum of the field are determined and also the ratio between thez component of the angular momentum and the energy and the ratio between the square of the angular momentum and the square of the energy. It is shown that the total angular momentum can be divided in the usual way into orbital and spin parts but that these parts cannot be interpreted as the orbital and spin angular momentum because their eigenvalues cannot be the eigenvalues of any operator of infinitesimal rotation. In the commutation rules of a multipole field the vector character of the field is to a certain extent suppressed and the spin of the photon in a state with a certain value of the energy, parityz component of the angular momentum and the square of the angular momentum is not defined.

In this paper the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic thin layers are studied by calculating the partition function for the magnetic system inKirkwood's approximation of the second order. The results obtained for the Curie temperature and the magnetization are in somewhat better agreement with the experiment than those obtained by Valenta.

Radiative capture of slow neutrons on atomic nuclei
The energies and absolute intensities of gamma radiation from the radiative capture of thermal neutrons on S33, Cl36, K40, Ca41, V52, Mn56 and Hg200 nuclei were measured by means of a one-crystal scintillation spectrometer. The transitions measured in the energy interval 100–1200 keV are mostly transitions between the lowest excited states of the nuclei studied.

The first part of the paper gives a general equation for triple-crystal arrangement with perfect crystals on the assumption that the third crystal is rotated. It is shown that in the case of perfect crystals the shape of the reflection curve is practically independent of the vertical divergence. The case of mosaic crystals is also solved and the possibility of rotation by other than the third crystal is considered. A method is proposed for investigating the imperfection of a crystal which is different from methods used up to now. The paper is supplemented by some experimental results.

The brightness waves of electroluminescence of ZnS—Cu were measured for the case of excitation with rectangular pulses as a function of the amplitude of the pulses and the temperature. A concrete model is proposed for electronic processes in barriers in ZnS crystals, the consequences of which for the decay of electroluminescence are in agreement with measurements.

The characteristic function is introduced, describing completely the monochromating effect of monochromating units. Expressions for this function are presented for monochromating units frequently used. An example of computation for Johansson's unit shows the conditions in a special case. The curves indicating the shift of the wavelength centroid of monochromated radiation for crystals of different perfection allow conclusions to be drawn about the influence of the alignment of the crystal on precision measurements of lattice constants. The experiments verify the suggested model. The computations for a given experimental arrangement permit a simple determination of the effective breadth of the reflection curve, if a distance of two suitably chosen diffraction lines of a polycrystalline specimen is measured. Finally, it was found experimentally that a small elastic bending does not essentially alter the reflection curve of highly elastic and imperfect crystals unless macroscopic distortions are present.

A study is made of the influence of an alternating magnetic field of varying maximum amplitude on the remanent state, or rather, apparent remanent state of toroidal and open samples of metallic and non-metallic magnetically soft ferromagnetics. An interpretation of the corresponding dependences is given on the basis of Kondorski's conception of the composition of a polycrystalline jerromagnetic material.
