The elongational viscosity data of model PS combs (Hepperle J, Einfluss der Molekularen Struktur auf Rheologische Eigenschaften von Polystyrol- und Polycarbonatschmelzen. Doctoral Thesis, University Erlangen-Nürnberg, 2003) are reconsidered by including the interchain pressure term of Marrucci and Ianniruberto [Macromolecules 37:3934–3942, 2004] in the Molecular Stress Function model [Wagner et al., J Rheol 47(3):779–793, 2003, Wagner et al., J Rheol 49:1317–1327, 2005d]. Two nonlinear model parameters are needed to describe elongational flow, β and . The parameterβ determines the slope of the elongational viscosity after the inception of strain hardening. It is directly related to the molecular structure of the polymer and represents the ratio of the molar mass of the (branched) polymer to the molar mass of the backbone alone. β follows from the hypothesis of Wagner et al. [J Rheol 47(3):779–793, 2003] that side chains are compressed onto the backbone. We consider also the case that side chains are oriented by deformation, but not stretched, and found little difference in the model predictions. The parameter represents the maximum strain energy stored in the polymeric system and determines the steady-state value of the viscosity in extensional flows. The relation of this energy parameter to the molecular structure is discussed. Good correlations between the energy parameter and different coil contraction ratios, as determined either experimentally or calculated theoretically by considering the topology of the macromolecule, are found. The smaller the relative size of the polymer coil, the larger is the energy parameter and the more strain energy can be stored in the polymeric system. Presented at the 3rd Annual European Rheology Conference, AERC2006, Crete, Greece.  相似文献

The paper considers the application of the method of direct separation of motions to the investigation of distributed systems. An approach is proposed which allows one to apply the method directly to the initial equation of motion and to satisfy all boundary conditions, arising for both slow and fast components of motion. The methodology is demonstrated by means of a classical problem concerning the so-called Indian magic rope trick (Blekhman et al. in Selected topics in vibrational mechanics, vol. 11, pp. 139–149, [2004]; Champneys and Fraser in Proc. R. Soc. Lond. A 456:553–570, [2000]; in SIAM J. Appl. Math. 65(1):267–298, [2004]; Fraser and Champneys in Proc. R. Soc. Lond. A 458:1353–1373, [2002]; Galan et al. in J. Sound Vib. 280:359–377, [2005]), in which a wire with an unstable upper vertical position is stabilized due to vertical vibration of its bottom support point. The wire is modeled as a heavy Bernoulli–Euler beam with a vertically vibrating lower end. As a result of the treatment, an explicit formula is obtained for the vibrational correction to the critical flexural stiffness of the nonexcited system.  相似文献

We prove the global existence of solutions for a shape-memory alloys constitutive model at finite strains. The model has been presented in Evangelista et al. (Int J Numer Methods Eng 81(6):761–785, 2010) and corresponds to a suitable finite-strain version of the celebrated Souza–Auricchio model for SMAs (Auricchio and Petrini in Int J Numer Methods Eng 55:1255–1284, 2002; Souza et al. in J Mech A Solids 17:789–806, 1998). We reformulate the model in purely variational fashion under the form of a rate-independent process. Existence of suitably weak (energetic) solutions to the model is obtained by passing to the limit within a constructive time-discretization procedure.  相似文献

As is shown in the first paper of the series, the main factor responsible for concentrated (‘neck-like’) deformation in high-speed melt spinning is the gradient of elongational viscosity along the spinline. In the present paper, stress-induced polymer crystallization is analyzed as a potential source of the rapid viscosity increase.A model of crystallization-controlled solidification is proposed, in which viscosity of the polymer increases with the degree of crystallinity, Θ, as
, reaching infinity (complete solidification) at Θ = Θcr. The critical crystallinity level has been interpreted as one required for ‘crosslinking’ of polymer chains present in the melt.In addition to viscosity increase, crystallization modifies the local temperature in the spinline and reduces viscosity. The analysis of stress effects shows that critical crystallization temperature, Tm, and crystallization rate, K, increase with the square of normal stress difference in the spinline, Δp = pxxprr. The onset of crystallization can be shifted by 20–40 K towards higher temperatures, and crystallization rate can increase by orders of magnitude when high take-up speeds increase the stress level.A simple model illustrating velocity profiles in crystallizing Newtonian jets is discussed. The analysis strongly supports the hypothesis that the high viscosity gradient resulting from rapid stress-induced crystallization provides the major mechanism of ‘neck-like’ deformation.  相似文献

Recently, the tube diameter relaxation time in the evolution equation of the molecular stress function (MSF) model (Wagner et al., J Rheol 49: 1317–1327, 2005) with the interchain pressure effect (Marrucci and Ianniruberto, Macromolecules 37:3934–3942, 2004) included was shown to be equal to three times the Rouse time in the limit of small chain stretch. From this result, an advanced version of the MSF model was proposed, allowing modeling of the transient and steady-state elongational viscosity data of monodisperse polystyrene melts without using any nonlinear parameter, i.e., solely based on the linear viscoelastic characterization of the melts (Wagner and Rolón-Garrido 2009a, b). In this work, the same approach is extended to model experimental data in shear flow. The shear viscosity of two polybutadiene solutions (Ravindranath and Wang, J Rheol 52(3):681–695, 2008), of four styrene-butadiene random copolymer melts (Boukany et al., J Rheol 53(3):617–629, 2009), and of four polyisoprene melts (Auhl et al., J Rheol 52(3):801–835, 2008) as well as the shear viscosity and the first and second normal stress differences of a polystyrene melt (Schweizer et al., J Rheol 48(6):1345–1363, 2004), are analyzed. The capability of the MSF model with the interchain pressure effect included in the evolution equation of the chain stretch to model shear rheology on the basis of linear viscoelastic data alone is confirmed.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of temperature-dependent viscosity, thermal dispersion, Soret number and Dufour number on non-Darcy MHD free convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid past a vertical isothermal surface embedded in a saturated porous medium. The governing partial differential equations are transferred into a system of ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically using a fourth order Runge–Kutta scheme with the shooting method. Comparisons with previously published work by Hong and Tien [Hong, J. T. and Tien, C. L.: 1987, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 30, 143–150] and Sparrow et al. [Sparrow, E. M. et al.: 1964, AIAA J. 2 652–659] are performed and good agreement is obtained. Numerical results of the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number as well as the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are presented for different physical parameters.  相似文献

The paper discusses localized measurements that may be used to validate individual sub-models in mechanistic models of nucleate boiling on inclined surfaces with sliding bubbles. A previous study of wall temperature variations near isolated sliding bubbles by Kenning et al. (Multiphase Sci Technol 14:75–94, 2002), employing liquid crystal thermography, has been expanded in range and compared with recent studies by Qiu and Dhir (Exp Therm Fluid Sci 26:605–616, 2002) and Bayazit et al. (J Heat Transfer 125:503–509, 2003). The implications for modelling nucleate boiling are discussed.  相似文献

A systematic application of the group analysis method for modeling fluids with internal inertia is presented. The equations studied include models such as the nonlinear one-velocity model of a bubbly fluid (with incompressible liquid phase) at small volume concentration of gas bubbles (Iordanski Zhurnal Prikladnoj Mekhaniki i Tekhnitheskoj Fiziki 3, 102–111, 1960; Kogarko Dokl. AS USSR 137, 1331–1333, 1961; Wijngaarden J. Fluid Mech. 33, 465–474, 1968), and the dispersive shallow water model (Green and Naghdi J. Fluid Mech. 78, 237–246, 1976; Salmon 1988). These models are obtained for special types of the potential function W(r,[(r)\dot],S){W(\rho,\dot \rho,S)} (Gavrilyuk and Teshukov Continuum Mech. Thermodyn. 13, 365–382, 2001). The main feature of the present paper is the study of the potential functions with W S  ≠ 0. The group classification separates these models into 73 different classes.  相似文献

We prove a blow-up criterion in terms of the upper bound of (ρ, ρ −1, θ) for a strong solution to three dimensional compressible viscous heat-conductive flows. The main ingredient of the proof is an a priori estimate for a quantity independently introduced in Haspot (Regularity of weak solutions of the compressible isentropic Navier–Stokes equation, arXiv:1001.1581, 2010) and Sun et al. (J Math Pure Appl 95:36–47, 2011), whose divergence can be viewed as the effective viscous flux.  相似文献

External heat transfer prediction is performed in two-dimensional turbine blade cascades using the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations. For this purpose, six different turbulence models including the algebraic Baldwin–Lomax (AIAA paper 78-257, 1978), three low-Re k−ɛ models (Chien in AIAA J 20:33–38, 1982; Launder and Sharma in Lett Heat Mass Transf 1(2):131–138, 1974; Biswas and Fukuyama in J Turbomach 116:765–773, 1994), and two k−ω models (Wilcox in AIAA J 32(2):247–255, 1994) are taken into account. The computer code developed employs a finite volume method to solve governing equations based on an explicit time marching approach with capability to simulate subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows. The Roe method is used to decompose the inviscid fluxes and the gradient theorem to decompose viscous fluxes. The performance of different turbulence models in prediction of heat transfer is examined. To do so, the effect of Reynolds and Mach numbers along with the turbulent intensity are taken into account, and the numerical results obtained are compared with the experimental data available.  相似文献

Turbulence produced by the piston motion in spark-ignition engines is studied by 2D axisymmetric numerical simulations in the cylindrical geometry as in the theoretical and experimental work by Breuer et al. (Flow Turbul Combust 74:145, 2005). The simulations are based on the Navier–Stokes gas-dynamic equations including viscosity, thermal conduction and non-slip at the walls. Piston motion is taken into account as a boundary condition. The turbulent flow is investigated for a wide range of the engine speed, 1,000–4,000 rpm, assuming both zero and non-zero initial turbulence. The turbulent rms-velocity and the integral length scale are investigated in axial and radial directions. The rms-turbulent velocity is typically an order-of-magnitude smaller than the piston speed. In the case of zero initial turbulence, the flow at the top-dead-center may be described as a combination of two large-scale vortex rings of a size determined by the engine geometry. When initial turbulence is strong, then the integral turbulent length demonstrates self-similar properties in a large range of crank angles. The results obtained agree with the experimental observations of Breuer et al. (Flow Turbul Combust 74:145, 2005).  相似文献

Nowadays, the largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE) is employed in many different areas of the scientific research. Thus, there is still need to elaborate fast and simple methods of LLE calculation. The new method of the LLE estimation is presented in this paper. The method (LLEDP) applies the perturbation vector and its derivative dot product to calculate Lyapunov exponent in the direction of disturbance. Value of this exponent is the LLE. The theoretical improvement was introduced. Results of the numerical simulations were shown and compared with the Stefański method (Stefański in Chaos Solitons Fractals 11(15):2443–2451, 2000; Stefański and Kapitaniak in Chaos Solitons Fractals 15:233–244, 2003; Stefański et al. in Chaos Solitons Fractals 23:1651–1659, 2005; Stefański in J. Theor. Appl. Mech. 46:665–678, 2008). Investigations of the Duffing oscillators with external excitation and three Duffing oscillators coupled in ring scheme without external excitation were made with use of the presented method. Fast time LLE estimation results convergence was shown.  相似文献

It is considered a heat conduction in a layer made of two conductors distributed in the form of laminas with varied thicknesses. Macroscopic (averaged) properties of the layer are continuously “transversally” graded across its thickness (TGL layer), cf. Fig. 1. The aim of the paper is to present and apply an averaged model of the heat conduction, obtained within the tolerance averaging technique, discussed in the book edited by Woźniak et al. (Thermomechanics of microheterogeneous solids and structures. Tolerance averaging approach, Łódź, Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2008). It is shown that the proposed model describes the microstructural effect on the heat conduction of the TGL layer. Moreover, results obtained within this model are compared to results by the higher order theory (cf. Aboudi et al., Composites B, 30:777–832, 1999).  相似文献

The complexity measure from Shiner et al. [Physical Review E 59, 1999, 1459–1464] (henceforth abbreviated as SDL-measure) has recently been the subject of a fierce debate. We discuss the properties and shortcomings of this measure, from the point of view of our recently constructed fundamental, statistical mechanics-based measures of complexity Cs(γ,β) [Stoop et al., J. Stat. Phys. 114, 2004, 1127–1137]. We show explicitly, what the shortcomings of the SDL-measure are: It is over-universal, and the implemented temperature dependence is trivial. We also show how the original SDL-approach can be modified to rule out these points of critique. Results of this modification are shown for the logistic parabola.  相似文献

Molecular stress function theory with new strain energy function is used to analyze transient extensional viscosity data of seven low-density polyethylene (LDPE) melts with various molecular structures as published by Stadler et al. (Rheol Acta 48:479–490, 2009) Pivokonsky et al. (J Non Newton Fluid Mech 135:58–67, 2006) and Wagner et al. (J Rheol 47(3):779–793, 2003). The new strain energy function has three nonlinear viscoelastic material parameters and assumes that the total stored energy of a branched molecule is given by different backbone and side chains stretching. The model parameters have been fitted for each LDPE in order to correlate with the supposed macromolecular structure expected from the type of synthesis. Most probable molecular structures for these LDPEs are comb and Cayley tree structures for respectively low- and high-molecular weight parts.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the decay structure for linear symmetric hyperbolic systems with relaxation. When the relaxation matrix is symmetric, the dissipative structure of the systems is completely characterized by the Kawashima–Shizuta stability condition formulated in Umeda et al. (Jpn J Appl Math 1:435–457, 1984) and Shizuta and Kawashima (Hokkaido Math J 14:249–275, 1985) and we obtain the asymptotic stability result together with the explicit time-decay rate under that stability condition. However, some physical models which satisfy the stability condition have non-symmetric relaxation term (for example, the Timoshenko system and the Euler–Maxwell system). Moreover, it had been already known that the dissipative structure of such systems is weaker than the standard type and is of the regularity-loss type (see Duan in J Hyperbolic Differ Equ 8:375–413, 2011; Ide et al. in Math Models Meth Appl Sci 18:647–667, 2008; Ide and Kawashima in Math Models Meth Appl Sci 18:1001–1025, 2008; Ueda et al. in SIAM J Math Anal 2012; Ueda and Kawashima in Methods Appl Anal 2012). Therefore our purpose in this paper is to formulate a new structural condition which includes the Kawashima–Shizuta condition, and to analyze the weak dissipative structure for general systems with non-symmetric relaxation.  相似文献

Rheology was used to characterise the curing process of the epoxy system consisting of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A [DGEBA(n=0)] and one, or a mixture of the two isomers of the curing agent 1,2-diaminocyclohexane (1,2-DCH). The trans isomer and a mixture cis–trans (30–70% respectively) of 1,2-DCH were used to investigate their different behaviour. In a previous article (L. Núñez et al., Therm Anal Calorim, 2005), it was reported that the values of gel time measured by dielectric analysis for the systems DGEBA(n=0)/trans-1,2-DCH and DGEBA(n=0)/cis–trans −1,2-DCH were very similar, while times to vitrification, as measured by modulated scanning calorimetry differed widely. In the present study, rheometry was used to corroborate the results obtained in the previous article for gel time and activation energy and also to analyse differences in the cure of the two epoxy systems studied by comparing the results reported here with those previously measured by DEA and DSC.  相似文献

We study the minimal speed for a two species competition system with monostable nonlinearity. We are interested in the linear determinacy for the minimal speed in the sense defined by (Lewis et al. J Math Biol 45:219–233, 2002). We provide more general cases for the linear determinacy than that of (Lewis et al. J Math Biol 45:219–233, 2002). For this, we study the minimal speed for the corresponding lattice dynamical system. Our approach gives one new way to study the traveling waves of the parabolic equations through its discretization which can be applied to other similar problems.  相似文献
