The Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson was predicted by theorists in the 1960s during the development of the electroweak theory. Prior to the startup of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), experimental searches found no evidence of the Higgs boson. In July 2012, the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC reported the discovery of a new boson in their searches for the SM Higgs boson. Subsequent experimental studies have revealed the spin-0 nature of this new boson and found its couplings to SM particles consistent to those of a Higgs boson. These measurements confirmed the newly discovered boson is indeed a Higgs boson. More measurements will be performed to compare the properties of the Higgs boson with the SM predictions.  相似文献

Studies on searches for the Standard Model Higgs with the ATLAS detector are re-interpreted to obtain limits on radion decay to γγ and ZZ(*). The compact muon solenoid (CMS) is one of the four experiments which is getting and analysing the results of the collision of protons at LHC. The CMS trigger system is divided into two stages, the level-1 trigger and high-level triggers, to handle the large stream of data produced in collision. The information transmitted from the three muon subsystems (DT, CSC and RPC) are collected by the Global Muon Trigger (GMT) Board and merged. A method for evaluating the RPC system trigger efficiency with data from pp collision was developed using the features of GMT. The results of the study with the real data of 2011 are shown and discussed here along with the comparison of Monte Carlo results.  相似文献

Direct photon and photon-jet correlations are perfect tools for tomographic studies of the dense medium produced in heavy ion collisions at LHC energies. Due to their weak interactions with the medium, direct photons serve as standard candles for hard-scattering processes, providing a clean calibration of the momentum of the associated jets. The ATLAS detector has powerful opportunities to carry out these measurements. The combination of fine granularity, longitudinal segmentation and large acceptance is unique for the LHC detectors. We show how it will provide optimal capability to distinguish direct photon clusters from neutral meson clusters based on their shower profile over a wide acceptance in η−?η? up to 200 GeV in pTpT. We show that combined with a photon isolation cut ATLAS would be able to measure a relatively background-free direct photon yield from 50–200 GeV along with the corresponding gamma-jet correlations in one nominal LHC Pb+Pb year. These high pTpT photons provide clean and statistically significant measurements of gamma-jet correlations and the fragmentation function for photon-tagged jets.  相似文献
