L(+)Glutamic acid hydrochloride [HOOC (CH2)2CH(NH2) COOH·HCl], a monoamino dicarboxylic acid salt of L‐Glutamic acid was synthesized and the synthesis was confirmed by FTIR analysis. Solubility of the material in water was determined. Pure and Thiourea doped L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals were grown by low temperature solution growth using solvent evaporation technique. XRD, UV‐Vis‐NIR analyses were carried out for both pure and thiourea doped crystals. The crystals were qualitatively analyzed by EDAX analysis and the presence of thiourea was confirmed. The cell parameters of L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride have been determined as a = 5.151 Å, b = 11.79 Å, c = 13.35 Å by X‐ray diffraction analysis and it crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P212121. UV‐Vis‐NIR spectra analysis showed good optical transmission in the entire visible region for both pure and doped crystals. Micro hardness of both pure and doped crystals has been determined using Vickers micro hardness tester. The SHG efficiencies of both pure and doped crystals were determined using Kurtz powder test and pure L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystal was found to possess better efficiency than thiourea doped L‐Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals. An organic electro‐optic and nonlinear optical (NLO) material, L‐alaninium oxalate, was synthesized by the standard method. The synthesized material was purified by repeated recrystallization. Single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were transparent and had optimum dimensions (20 × 3 × 2 mm3) and were characterized by single crystal XRD, FT‐NMR, FT‐IR, TGA‐DTA and UV‐Vis‐NIR techniques. The second harmonic generation (SHG) from the material was confirmed using Nd:YAG laser. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Single crystals of pure and lithium substituted L‐alanine are successfully grown by slow evaporation method at constant temperature of 32°C. The effect of lithium dopant on crystal properties has been studied. Powder and single crystal XRD analysis confirms the structure and change in lattice parameter values for the doped crystals. The crystals were characterized by solubility studies, density, melting point measurements, FTIR and UV‐Vis‐NIR techniques. Thermal and mechanical stability of crystals were tested by TGA/DTA and micro hardness analysis. NLO activity of the crystals is found to be increased in the presence of lithium ions. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the crystals were studied as a function of frequency. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A potentially useful semiorganic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, L‐arginine perchlorate, has been synthesized and bulk crystals have been grown by slow cooling technique. The grown crystals were characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction, UV‐Vis‐NIR spectroscopy, FT‐IR, thermal analysis and SHG measurements. The grown crystals were thermally stable upto 153°C and exhibit SHG efficiency of about 0.17 with respect of Urea. The etching studies have been carried out on the grown crystal. LAPC has good optical transmission not only in the visible range, however, also in the near UV part of the spectra and hence it is a potential material for nonlinear frequency conversion. The refractive index was measured by the Brewster's angle method. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Single crystals of tris allylthiourea mercury chloride (ATMC), a semi‐organic nonlinear optical material, have been grown from a low‐temperature solution growth technique by slow cooling method. In the present work, we have grown ATMC crystal which is a new nonlinear optical material (NLO) having high optical quality and its second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency is thrice that of Urea. The grown crystals have also been subjected to various characterization studies like X‐ray diffraction, UV‐VIS, FT‐IR and TGA‐DTA. X‐ray powder diffraction study confirmed the crystal structure of ATMC, UV‐VIS /FT‐IR spectral analysis showed the crystal has good optical transmission in the entire visible region and TGA‐DTA studies showed the thermal properties and complex degradation of ATMC crystal. A novel system for rapid crystal growth, namely three‐dimensional motion growth method (“3D MGM”) was proposed. Using this system, a potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) seed was grown to a single crystal with a final size of 50×55×85 mm3. The KDP crystal was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, UV‐vis‐NIR spectroscopy, extinction ratio, laser damage threshold, and etching studies. Raman spectrum shows KDP crystal grown by “3D MGM” maintains good crystallinity as that grown by rotating‐crystal method (“RCM”). The “3D MGM” grown KDP crystal has much better transmittance, higher extinction ratio, higher damage threshold and less dislocation density, compared to “RCM” grown crystal.  相似文献

Single crystals of 2‐naphthol was grown in slow evaporation solution growth technique. Grown crystals were characterized by various characterization techniques. Powder X‐ ray diffraction studies reveal that the grown crystal belongs to monoclinic system with noncentrosymmetric space group. Vibrational bands of the various functional groups and their significance were investigated by analyzing the vibrational spectra. Melting point and the decomposition temperature of the grown crystal was premeditated from the thermal analysis. From the UV‐VIS‐NIR spectrum the electronic excitation mechanism and the transmittance abilities of the crystal was studied. Theoretical value of first static hyperpolarizability was calculated and compared with urea. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal is 0.6 times that of KDP. Single crystals of organic non‐linear optical material, γ‐glycine have been grown by gel method for the first time. The γ‐phase is confirmed by single crystal XRD. The presence of various functional groups of γ‐glycine are confirmed by FTIR. The UV‐Vis‐NIR spectrum reveals the high percentage of transmission of the sample in the entire visible region. The SHG of γ‐glycine is confirmed by Kurtz powder technique. TGA‐DTA studies indicate that the crystal is structurally stable upto 170 °C. Microhardness investigations are conducted on the grown crystals. The dielectric constant measurements are carried out and the nature of variation of dielectric constant ε′ and dielectric loss D in the frequency range of 50 Hz to 5 MHz is studied and reported. Photoconductivity studies of γ‐glycine crystals revealed the negative photoconducting nature. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

L‐arginine hydrochloride monohydrate (LAHCl.H2O) has been synthesized and single crystals have been grown from its aqueous solution by slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. The solubility of the material was measured at various temperatures and bulk crystals of size 26×13×11 mm3 have been grown by optimizing the growth parameters. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal XRD studies to confirm the structure and to estimate the lattice parameters. FTIR analysis indicate the mode of vibrations of different molecular groups present in LAHCl and confirm the protonation of guanidyl, amino groups and deprotonation of COO groups. UV‐Vis transmission spectrum revealed the linear optical properties of the grown crystals with a transparency of 65% over the entire visible range upto 300 nm. Thermal behavior of the grown crystal was investigated from DTA and TGA measurements. Dielectric studies have been carried out on the grown crystals. Kurtz and Perry powder SHG technique confirms the NLO property of the grown crystal. The SHG efficiency of LAHCl was found to be 0.38 with respect to KDP. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The growth of single crystals of L‐histidinium perchlorate (LHPCL), a semi organic nonlinear optical material with dimension upto 5 × 6 × 2.5 mm3 is reported. Good optical quality single crystals were grown from aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation technique. The grown crystals were characterized by single crystal X‐ray diffraction (XRD), FT‐IR and optical transmission studies. Thermal studies confirm that LHPCL has a fairly high thermal stability (272°C) when compared with other members of histidine family. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provides information on the quality of the samples and grain distribution over the surface of the sample. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the compound were measured at different frequencies, and also at varying temperatures and the results of these experiments are discussed. A new nonlinear optical material tetrakis thiourea nickel chloride (TTNC) was synthesized and single crystals were grown from mixed solvent of water and isopropanol by both slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. The grown crystals were characterized by powder X‐ray diffraction analyses to confirm the crystal structure. The presence of functional groups and the coordination of metal ions to thiourea were confirmed by FTIR and Raman spectroscopy analyses. UV‐VIS spectrum was recorded to study the optical transparency of the grown crystals. Thermal properties of the crystals have been by investigated using thermo gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA), which indicate that the material does not decompose before melting. The second order nonlinear optical property of the grown crystal was examined by Kurtz powder technique and mechanical behavior was studied by Vicker's microhardness test. 4‐nitrophenol (4‐NP) single crystals have been grown by using slow evaporation and slow cooling techniques. A single crystal with size in the range of 7x3.4x1.8cm3 has been obtained by slow cooling method. The grown crystals have been subjected to various characterization studies. The powder XRD spectrum of 4‐NP reveals the good crystalline nature of the grown crystal. Single crystal XRD studies show that the crystal belongs to monoclinic system with cell parameters of a=6.09 Å, b=8.79 Å, c=11.61 Å, α=γ=90°, β=103.15°. The resultant FTIR spectrum confirms the various functional groups present in 4‐NP. Thermal analysis has been performed on the material to study the thermal stability of 4‐NP. The grown crystals belong to the category of soft materials as confirmed by Vickers Hardness tests. The optical transmiitance of 4‐NP single crystals has been measured from Vis‐IR spectroscopy study. The nonlinear optical properties have been analyzed by z‐scan technique and 4‐NP is found to be self defocusing because of its negative nonlinear refractive index. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Lithium tetraborate crystals have great demand due to its non‐critical phase matching at 90°. Transparent and good optical quality single crystals of undoped and Mn doped Li2B4O7 were grown by Czochralski technique in air atmosphere. The crystalline phase was determined by X‐ray diffraction. Doping of Mn in the grown crystals was confirmed by energy dispersive analysis of X‐rays (EDAX) technique. Transmission spectra show that the crystal is transparent in the visible region. Birefringence interferograms were recorded to qualitatively analyse the optical homogeneity of the grown crystals and to quantify the birefringence of the samples in desired crystal direction. Trimethoprim malate, an organic crystal, has been synthesized using slow evaporation method from its aqueous solution. Structural, optical and the mechanical properties of the grown crystal have been investigated by various characterization techniques which include FTIR spectra, single crystal XRD, UV‐Vis spectra and Vickers microhardness testing. The structure of the compound predicted by analysing the recorded FTIR spectrum compliments the structure determined using single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Single crystal X‐ray diffraction study reveals that the crystals are monoclinic [P21/c, a=12.9850 Å, b=9.3038 Å, c=15.6815 Å and β=111.065°]. The UV‐Vis spectrum exhibits maximum transparency (98%) for a wide range suggesting the suitability of the title compound for optical applications. The optical constants have been calculated and illustrated graphically. Microhardness tests have been performed on the cystal under study and the Vicker hardness number has been calculated. The work hardening coefficient is found to be 2.85 which suggest that the crystal belongs to the family of soft materials. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
