The degradation of a reactive azo dye, Direct Red 81 (DR81), by Fenton process and in conjunction with sonolysis (SonoFenton) was studied. The synergistic effect of Fenton process and sonolysis enhanced the degradation of Direct Red 81 in aqueous solutions and the reaction followed the mechanism of hydroxyl radical (HO) oxidation. The influence of the initial substrate concentration, pH and catalyst loading on the rate of decolorisation were studied. The dye decolorisation followed apparent first order kinetics. The optimum conditions for decolorisation were pH = 3.0, [Fe2+] = 0.2 g/l, [H2O2] = 5.1 × 10−3 mol/l and ultrasonic frequency = 120 kHz, 60 W. These conditions yielded 99% decolorisation of DR81 within 75 min. The sonolytic degradation products of DR81 were identified using Electrospray Ionization-Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS). The presence of CO32−, HCO3, Cl, NO3, and SO42− ions in the dye solution did not have a considerable effect on the decolorisation efficiency. This study demonstrates that Fenton and SonoFenton methods can effectively decolorize DR81 dye in waste water. The dye concentration used in this study is higher compared to earlier studies illustrating the effective mineralization by the SonoFenton process. The mechanism of dye degradation is also proposed.  相似文献

A sonophotochemical oxidation process has been used for the treatment of an aqueous solution of phenol. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of nitrate ions on hydroxyl radical production and on phenol oxidation. It has been demonstrated that ultrasound can produce NOx (nitrate and nitrite), with a production rate of 2.2 μM min−1. The photolysis of nitrate can significantly improve the hydroxyl radical production. The apparent rate constant for hydroxyl radical production increased from 0.0015 min−1 to 0.0073 min−1 while increasing initial nitrate concentration from 0 to 0.5 mM. The concentration of hydroxyl radical was directly proportional to the initial nitrate concentration. Using US/UV process, the apparent reaction rate constant of phenol degradation in the presence of nitrate reached 0.020 min−1, which was relatively lower than the value obtained (0.027 min−1) in the absence of nitrate. It appeared that, nitrate ions can inhibit the sonochemical degradation of organic compounds such as phenol.  相似文献

In this work, the decolorization of azo dye Orange G (OG) in aqueous solution by aluminum powder enhanced by ultrasonic irradiation (AlP-UI) was investigated. The effects of various operating operational parameters such as the initial pH, initial OG concentration, AlP dosage, ultrasound power and added hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration were studied. The results showed that the decolorization rate was enhanced when the aqueous OG was irradiated simultaneously by ultrasound in the AlP-acid systems. The decolorization rate decreased with the increase of both initial pH values of 2.0–4.0 and OG initial concentrations of 10–80 mg/L, increased with the ultrasound power enhancing from 500 to 900 W. An optimum value was reached at 2.0 g/L of the AlP dosage in the range of 0.5–2.5 g/L. The decolorization rate enhanced significantly by the addition of hydrogen peroxide in the range of 10–100 mM to AlP-UI system reached an optimum value of 0.1491 min−1. The decolorization of OG appears to involve primarily oxidative steps, the cleavage of NN bond, which were verificated by the intermediate products of OG under the optimal tested degradation system, aniline and 1-amino-2-naphthol-6,8-disulfonate detected by the LC–MS.  相似文献

In this study, removal of Cresol Red (CR), a cationic triphenylmethane dye, by 300 kHz ultrasound was investigated. The effect of additive such as potassium monopersulfate (oxone) was studied. Additionally, sonolytic degradation of CR was investigated at varying power and initial pH. RC can be readily eliminated by the ultrasound process. The obtained results showed that. Sonochemical degradation of CR was strongly affected by ultrasonic power and pH. The degradation rate of the dye increased substantially with increasing ultrasonic power in the range of 20–80 W. This improvement could be explained by the increase in the number of active cavitation bubbles. The significant degradation was achieved in acidic conditions (pH = 2) where the color removal was 99% higher than those observed in higher pH aqueous solutions. The ultrasonic degradation of dye was enhanced by potassium monopersulfate (oxone) addition. It was found that the degradation of the dye was accelerated with increased concentrations of oxone for a reaction time of 75 min.  相似文献

The present study focused on the synthesis of nanostructured MgO via sonochemical method and its application as sonocatalyst for the decolorization of Basic Red 46 (BR46) dye under ultrasonic irradiation. The sonocatalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX). In the following, the sonocatalytic removal of the dye under different operational conditions was evaluated kinetically on the basis of pseudo first-order kinetic model. The reaction rate of sonocatalyzed decolorization using MgO nanostructures (12.7 × 10−3 min−1) was more efficient than that of ultrasound alone (2.0 × 10−3 min−1). The increased sonocatalyst dosage showed better sonocatalytic activity but the application of excessive dosage should be avoided. The presence of periodate ions substantially increased the decolorization rate from 14.76 × 10−3 to 33.4 × 10−3 min−1. Although the application of aeration favored the decolorization rate (17.8 × 10−3 min−1), the addition of hydrogen peroxide resulted in a considerable decrease in the decolorization rate (9.5 × 10−3 min−1) due to its scavenging effects at specific concentrations. Unlike alcoholic compounds, the addition of phenol had an insignificant scavenging effect on the sonocatalysis. A mineralization rate of 7.4 × 10−3 min−1 was obtained within 120 min. The intermediate byproducts were also detected using GC–MS analysis.  相似文献

In this work, ultrasound-assisted adsorption of an anionic dye, sunset yellow (SY) and cationic dyes, malachite green (MG), methylene blue (MB) and their ternary dye solutions onto Cu@ Mn-ZnS-NPs-AC from water aqueous was optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) using the central composite design (CCD). The adsorbent was characterized using Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and EDX mapping images. The effects of various parameters such as pH, sonication time, adsorbent mass and initial concentrations of SY, MG and MB were examined. A total 33 experiments were conducted to establish a quadratic model. Cu@ Mn-ZnS-NPs-AC has the maximum adsorption efficiency (>99.5%) when the pH, sonication time, adsorbent mass and initial concentrations of SY, MG and MB were optimally set as 6.0, 5 min, 0.02 g, 9, 12 and 12 mg L−1, respectively. Sonication time has a statistically significant effect on the selected responses. Langmuir isotherm model was found to be best fitted to adsorption and adsorption capacities were 67.5 mg g−1 for SY, 74.6 mg g−1 for MG and 72.9 mg g−1 for MB. Four kinetic models (pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Weber–Morris intraparticle diffusion rate and Elovich) were tested to correlate the experimental data and the sorption was fitted well with the pseudo-second order kinetic model.  相似文献

The effectiveness of ozone combined with ultrasound techniques in degrading reactive red X-3B is evaluated. A comparison among ozone (O3), ultrasonic (US), ozone/ultrasonic (O3/US) for degradation of reactive red X-3B has been performed. Results show that O3/US system was the most effective and the optimally synergetic factor reaches to 1.42 in O3/US system. The cavitation of ultrasound plays an important role during the degradation process. It is found that 99.2% of dye is degraded within 6 min of reaction at the initial concentration of 100 mg·L−1, pH of 6.52, ozone flux of 40 L·h−1 and ultrasonic intensity of 200 W·L−1. Ozonation reactions in conjunction with sonolysis indicate that the decomposition followed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics but the degradation efficiencies are affected by operating conditions, particularly initial pH and ultrasonic intensity. A kinetic model is established based on the reaction corresponding to operational parameters. In addition, the main reaction intermediates, such as p-benzoquinone, catechol, hydroquinone, phthalic anhydride and phthalic acid, are separated and identified using GC/MS and a possible degradation pathway is proposed during the O3/US process.  相似文献

Ultrasonic-assisted heterogeneous Fenton reaction was used for degradation of nitrobenzene (NB) at neutral pH conditions. Nano-sized oxides of α-Fe2O3 and CuO were prepared, characterized and tested in degradation of NB (10 mg L−1) under sonication of 20 kHz at 25 °C. Complete degradation of NB was effected at pH 7 in presence of 10 mM H2O2 after 10 min of sonication in presence of α-Fe2O3 (1.0 g L−1), (k = 0.58 min−1) and after 25 min in case of CuO (k = 0.126 min−1). α-Fe2O3 showed also effective degradation under the conditions of 0.1 g L−1 oxide and 5.0 mM of H2O2, even though with a lower rate constant (0.346 min−1). Sonication plays a major role in enhancing the production of hydroxyl radicals in presence of solid oxides. Hydroxyl radicals-degradation pathway is suggested and adopted to explain the differences noted in rate constants recorded on using different oxides.  相似文献

In the present work, the degradation of methomyl has been carried out by using the ultrasound cavitation (US) and its combination with H2O2, Fenton and photo-Fenton process. The study of effect of operating pH and ultrasound power density has indicated that maximum extent of degradation of 28.57% could be obtained at the optimal pH of 2.5 and power density of 0.155 W/mL. Application of US in combination with H2O2, Fenton and photo-Fenton process has further accelerated the rate of degradation of methomyl with complete degradation of methomyl in 27 min, 18 min and 9 min respectively. Mineralization study has proved that a combination of US and photo-Fenton process is the most effective process with maximum extent of mineralization of 78.8%. Comparison of energy efficiency and cost effectiveness of various processes has indicated that the electrical cost of 79892.34 Rs./m3 for ultrasonic degradation of methomyl has drastically reduced to 2277.00 Rs./m3, 1518.00 Rs./m3 and 807.58 Rs./m3 by using US in combination with H2O2, Fenton and photo-Fenton process respectively. The cost analysis has also indicated that the combination of US and photo-Fenton process is the most energy efficient and cost effective process.  相似文献

Degradation of five textile dyes, namely Reactive Red 141 (RR 141), Reactive Blue 21 (RB 21), Acid Red 114 (AR 114), Acid Blue 113 (AB 113) and Basic Violet 16 (BV 16) in aqueous solution has been carried out with ultrasound (US) and in combination with rare earth ions (La3+ and Pr3+). Kinetic analysis of the data showed a pseudo-first order degradation reaction for all the dyes. The rate constant (k), half life (t1/2) and the process efficiency (φ) for various processes in degradation of dyes under different experimental conditions have been calculated. The influence of concentrations of dyes (16–40 mg/L), pH (5, 7 and 9) and rare earth ion concentration (4, 12 and 20 mg/L) on the degradation of dyes have also been studied. The degradation percentage increased with increasing rare earth amount and decreased with increasing concentration of dyes. Both horn and bath type sonicators were used at 20 kHz and 250 W for degradation. The sonochemical degradation rate of dyes in the presence of rare earths was related to the type of chromophoric groups in the dye molecule. Degradation sequence of dyes was further examined through LCMS and Raman spectroscopic techniques, which confirmed the sonochemical degradation of dyes to non-toxic end products.  相似文献

Degradation of azo dye Acid Orange 7 (AO7) by zero-valent aluminum (ZVAl) in combination with ultrasonic irradiation was investigated. The preliminary studies of optimal degradation methodology were conducted with sole ultrasonic, sole ZVAl/air system, ultrasonication + ZVAl/air system (US-ZVAl). In ZVAl/air system, the degradation of AO7 could almost not be observed within 30 min. The degradation of AO7 by ZVAl/air system was obviously enhanced under ultrasound irradiation, and the enhancement is mainly attributed to that the production of hydroxyl radicals in ultrasound-ZVAl process was much higher than that in sole ultrasonic or in sole ZVAl/air system. The variables considered for the effect of degradation were the power of ultrasound, the initial concentration of AO7, as well as the initial pH value and the dosage of zero-valent aluminum. The results showed that the decolorization rate increased with the increase of power density and the dosage of ZVAl, but decreased with the increase of initial pH value and initial concentration of AO7. More than 96% of AO7 removal was achieved within 30 min under optimum operational conditions (AO7: 20 mg/L, ZVAl: 2 g/L, pH: 2.5, ultrasound: 20 kHz, 300 W). This study demonstrates that ultrasound-ZVAl process can effectively decolorize the azo dye AO7 in wastewater.  相似文献

Effluents from the paper printing and textile industries are often heavily contaminated with azo dyes. Azo dyes are difficult to oxidize biologically. This work investigated the decolorization of an azo dye, C.I. Direct Red 23 (DR23), by persulfate (PS) activated with Fe0 aggregates (PS/Fe0). Ultrasound (US) and heat were used as enhancement tools in the PS oxidation system. Neither US-activated PS nor thermally activated PS was effective in oxidizing DR23. However, the decolorization was significantly enhanced by PS/Fe0 combined with US (PS/Fe0/US) or heat (PS/Fe0/55 °C). Approximately 95% decolorization of 1 × 10−4 M DR23 was achieved within 15 min in the PS/Fe0/US system at an initial pH of 6.0, PS of 5 × 10−3 M, Fe0 of 0.5 g/L and US irradiation of 106 W/cm2 (60 kHz). Complete decolorization was achieved within 10 min in the Fe0/PS/55 °C system. The rate of decolorization doubled when US was introduced in the PS/Fe0 system during the treatment of different initial dye concentrations. The dependence of dye and true color (ADMI) depletion on PS concentration has been discussed. DR23 was completely degraded based on the disappearance of aromatic groups of UV–vis spectra and the variation of TOC mineralization. The observed pseudo-first-order decolorization rate was substantially enhanced by increasing temperature. The Arrhenius activation energy for the PS activated with Fe0 was estimated as 8.98 kcal/mol, implying that higher temperature is beneficial for the DR23 decolorization. The addition of US into the PS/Fe0 system did not incur a substantial increase in electricity, whereas the mineralization of DR23 occurred quickly. Thus, both PS/Fe0/US and heated PS/Fe0 systems are practically feasible for the effective degradation of the direct azo dye in textile wastewater.  相似文献

In this work, the decolorization of C.I. Reactive Blue 181 (RB181), an anthraquinone dye, by Ultrasound and Fe2+ H2O2 processes was investigated. The effects of operating parameters, such as Fe2+ dosage, H2O2 dosage, pH value, reaction time and temperature were examined. Process optimisation [pH, ferrous ion (Fe2+), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and reaction time], kinetic studies and their comparison were carried out for both of the processes. The Sono-Fenton process was performed by indirect sonication in an ultrasonic water bath, which was operated at a fixed 35-kHz frequency. The optimum conditions were determined as [Fe2+] = 30 mg/L, [H2O2] = 50 mg/L and pH = 3 for the Fenton process and [Fe2+] = 10 mg/L, [H2O2] = 40 mg/L and pH = 3 for the Sono-Fenton process. The colour removals were 88% and 93.5% by the Fenton and Sono-Fenton processes, respectively. The highest decolorization was achieved by the Sono-Fenton process because of the production of some oxidising agents as a result of sonication. The paper also discussed kinetic parameters. The decolorization kinetic of RB181 followed pseudo-second-order reaction (Fenton study) and Behnajady kinetics (Sono-Fenton study).  相似文献

Micropollutants are becoming an increasing problem for the environment and wastewater treatment. One example is Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrinic disruptor, which is widely used in plastic production. Due to its endocrine disrupting effects on aquatic (micro-)organisms and its ubiquity, in surface- and wastewater alike, adequate treatment techniques are necessary. In this study, the degradation of BPA by a sonoelectrochemical hybrid system was investigated, using a low frequency (24 kHz) ultrasound horn and two boron doped diamond electrodes. It was found that by the combination of the individual processes, i.e. ultrasound and electrochemical oxidation, more than 90% of BPA could be removed within 30 min at an initial concentration of 1 mg L−1. Moreover, synergistic effects were discovered and a considerable improvement compared to the individual processes could be achieved by using a potential of 5 V, whereas synergistic effects were absent at a potential of 10 V. This study provides investigation of ultrasound amplitude, potential and electrode positioning on BPA degradation. The reaction was found to follow pseudo first order kinetics with a rate constant of 0.089 min−1. Samples were analysed by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a diode array detector. Moreover, the presence and distribution of hydroxyl radicals within the reactor was visualized by using sonochemiluminescence.  相似文献

Nano-sized magnetic Fe0/polyaniline (Fe0/PANI) nanofibers were used as an effective material for sonocatalytic degradation of organic anionic Congo red (CR) dye. Fe0/PANI, was synthesized via reductive deposition of nano-Fe0 onto the PANI nanofibers at room temperature. Prepared catalyst was characterized using HR-TEM, FE-SEM, XRD, FTIR instruments. The efficacy of catalyst in removing CR was assessed colorimetrically using UV–visible spectroscopy under different experimental conditions such as % of Fe0 loading into the composite material, solution pH, initial concentration of dye, catalyst dosage, temperature and ultrasonic power. The optimum conditions for sonocatalytic degradation of CR were obtained at catalyst concentrations = 500 mg.L−1, concentration of CR = 200 ppm, solution pH = neutral (7.0), temperature = 30 °C, % of Fe0 loading = 30% and 500 W ultrasonic power. The experimental results showed that ultrasonic process could remove 98% of Congo red within 30 min with higher Qmax value (Qmax = 446.4 at 25 °C). The rate of degradation of CR dye was much faster in this ultrasonic technique rather than conventional adsorption process. The degradation efficiency declined with the addition of common inorganic salts (NaCl, Na2CO3, Na2SO4 and Na3PO4). The rate of degradation suppressed more with increasing salt concentration. Kinetic and isotherm studies indicated that the degradation of CR provides pseudo-second order rate kinetic and Langmuir isotherm model compared to all other models tested. The excellent high degradation capacity of Fe0/PANI under ultrasonic irradiation can be explained on the basis of the formation of active hydroxyl radicals (OH) and subsequently a series of free radical reactions.  相似文献

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been treated using 20 kHz ultrasound in combination with dilute nitric and sulfuric acids at much lower concentrations than previously reported. The measurements revealed an optimum set of sonication conditions (in this case 30 min at 12 W cm−2) exists to overcome aggregation of the nanotubes and to allow efficient dispersion in ethanol or in chitosan. Transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy suggested the removal of amorphous material and reduction of the CNT diameter as well as modifications to their defect structures. The surface oxidation was determined by FTIR spectroscopy. At longer times or higher ultrasound intensities, degradation such as nanotube shortening and additional defect generation in the graphitic network occurred and the benefits of using ultrasound decreased. The modified CNTs were used as fillers for chitosan films and gave a tenfold increase in tensile strength and integrity of the films. The methodology was combined with sonochemical generation of gold or iron oxide nanoparticles to produce a range of functional membranes for catalytic reductive hydrogenation or dye degradation under conditions that are more environmentally benign than those previously used. Our results further add to the usefulness of sonochemistry as a valuable tool in preparative materials chemistry but also illustrate the crucial importance of careful control over the experimental conditions if optimum results are to be obtained.  相似文献

A comparative study was carried out of sonochemical (SCh), electrochemical (ECh) and sonoelectrochemical (SECh) strategies for the degradation of the fungicide thiram in dilute aqueous solution. The SCh and SECh studies were performed using a sonicator equipped with an 11 mm titanium-alloy probe and operated at 20 kHz with a power intensity of 523 W cm−2. In the ECh and SECh investigations, galvanostatic electrolyses were implemented using a single compartment electrochemical cell with a boron-doped diamond electrode as anode and applied current densities in the range 10–50 mA cm−2. For these processes, the decrease in concentration of thiram was monitored by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis and values of current efficiency and energy consumption were determined. The results showed that the rate of degradation of thiram and the amount of energy consumed were directly proportional to the applied current density, while current efficiency was inversely related to current density. The kinetics of thiram degradation followed a pseudo first order model with apparent rate constants in the region of 10−3 min−1. Thiram in aqueous solution was subjected to “exhaustive” degradation by ECh and SECh processes for 5 h at applied current densities of 35 mA cm−2 and the intermediates/byproducts so-formed were identified by HPLC–mass spectrometry. Mechanisms of the degradation reactions have been proposed on the basis of the results obtained.  相似文献

A new coupling of ultrasound device with membrane process has been developed in order to enhance cross-flow ultrafiltration of colloidal suspensions usually involved in several industrial applications included bio and agro industries, water and sludge treatment. In order to reduce mass transfer resistances induced by fouling and concentration polarization, which both are main limitations in membrane separation process continuous ultrasound is applied with the help of a vibrating blade (20 kHz) located in the feed channel all over the membrane surface (8 mm between membrane surface and the blade). Hydrodynamic aspects were also taking into account by the control of the rectangular geometry of the feed channel.Three colloidal suspensions with different kinds of colloidal interaction (attractive, repulsive) were chosen to evaluate the effect of their physico-chemical properties on the filtration. For a 90 W power (20.5 W cm−2) and a continuous flow rate, permeation fluxes are increased for each studied colloidal suspension, without damaging the membrane. The results show that the flux increase depends on the initial structural properties of filtered dispersion in terms of colloidal interaction and spatial organizations. For instance, a Montmorillonite Wyoming–Na clay suspension was filtered at 1.5 × 105 Pa transmembrane pressure. Its permeation flux is increased by a factor 7.1, from 13.6 L m−2 h−1 without ultrasound to 97 L m−2 h−1 with ultrasound.  相似文献

A method based on application of ZnO nanorods loaded on activated carbon (ZnO-NRs-AC) for adsorption of Bromocresol Green (BCG) and Eosin Y (EY) accelerated by ultrasound was described. The present material was synthesized under ultrasound assisted wet-chemical method and subsequently was characterized by FE-SEM, TEM, BET and XRD analysis. The extent of contribution of conventional variables like pH (2.0–10.0), BCG concentration (4–20 mg L−1), EY concentration (3–23 mg L−1), adsorbent dosage (0.01–0.03 g), sonication time (1–5 min) and centrifuge time (2–6 min) as main and interaction part were investigated by central composite design under response surface methodology. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was adapted to experimental data and guide the best operational conditions mass by set at 6.0, 9 mg L−1, 10 mg L−1, 0.02 g, 4 and 4 min for pH, BCG concentration, EY concentration, adsorbent dosage, sonication and centrifuge time, respectively. At these specified conditions dye adsorption efficiency was higher than 99.5%. The suitability and well prediction of optimum point was tested by conducting five experiments and respective results revel that RSD% was lower than 3% and high quality of fitting was confirmed by t-test. The experimental data were best fitted in Langmuir isotherm equation and the removal followed pseudo second order kinetics. The experimentally obtained maximum adsorption capacities were estimated as 57.80 and 61.73 mg g−1 of ZnO-NRs-AC for BCG and EY respectively from binary dye solutions. The mechanism of removal was explained by boundary layer diffusion via intraparticle diffusion.  相似文献

This paper deals about the sonochemical water treatment of acetaminophen (ACP, N-acetyl-p-aminophenol or paracetamol), one of the most popular pharmaceutical compounds found in natural and drinking waters. Effect of ultrasonic power (20–60 W), initial ACP concentration (33–1323 μmol L−1) and pH (3–12) were evaluated. High ultrasonic powers and, low and natural acidic pH values favored the efficiency of the treatment. Effect of initial substrate concentration showed that the Langmuir-type kinetic model fit well the ACP sonochemical degradation. The influence of organic compounds in the water matrix, at concentrations 10-fold higher than ACP, was also evaluated. The results indicated that only organic compounds having a higher value of the Henry’s law constant than the substrate decrease the efficiency of the treatment. On the other hand, ACP degradation in mineral natural water showed to be strongly dependent of the initial substrate concentration. A positive matrix effect was observed at low ACP concentrations (1.65 μmol L−1), which was attributed to the presence of bicarbonate ion in solution. However, at relative high ACP concentrations a detrimental effect of matrix components was noticed. Finally, the results indicated that ultrasonic action is able to transform ACP in aliphatic organic compounds that could be subsequently eliminated in a biological system.  相似文献
