Poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(3‐pentenylthiophene) and poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(3‐undecenylthiophene) diblock copolymers have been synthesized by McCullough method. X‐ray diffraction analysis of the diblock copolymers displayed all the reflection peaks specific to regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene), indicating that the presence of poly(3‐alkenylthiophene) block does not affect the packing of the polymer in the solid state. The synthesized diblock copolymers were subjected to hydroboration/oxidation and hydrosilation to demonstrate the reactivity of the alkenyl substituents. Furthermore, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(3‐pentenylthiophene) was used as a chain transfer agent for the ruthenium‐catalyzed ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of cyclooctene to generate a polycyclooctene graft copolymer, which was hydrogenated to give poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(3‐pentenylthiophene‐g‐polyethylene). The opto‐electronic properties and the morphology of the synthesized polymers have been investigated. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology. The development of the morphology of P3HT‐b‐PFOMA block copolymers was investigated after annealing in solvent vapor and also in supercritical CO2. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel block copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (P3HT‐b‐PEO) were synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction of P3HT and PEO homopolymers. The copolymers were characterized by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimeter, and UV–vis measurements. A series of devices based on the block copolymers with a fullerene derivative were evaluated after thermal or solvent annealing. The device using P3HT‐b‐PEO showed higher efficiency than using P3HT blend after thermal annealing. Phase‐separated structures in the thin films of block copolymer blends were investigated by atomic force microscopy to clarify the relationship between morphologies constructed by annealing and the device performance. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel rod–coil–rod ABA triblock copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(ethylene)‐block‐poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT) were synthesized by using a combination of a Ru‐catalyzed ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of 1,4‐cyclooctadiene in the presence of a suitable chain transfer agent (CTA) and a Ni‐catalyzed Grignard metathesis polymerization of 5‐chloromagnesio‐2‐bromo‐3‐hexylthiophene followed by hydrogenation. Using this methodology, the molecular weights of the poly(butadiene) (PBD) or the P3HT blocks were controlled by adjusting the initial monomer/CTA or the initial monomer/macroinitiator ratio, respectively. In addition, the triblock structure was confirmed by selective oxidative degradation of the PBD block found in the intermediate P3HT‐b‐PBD‐b‐P3HT copolymer produced in the aforementioned method, followed by analysis of the degradation products. Thermal analysis and atomic force microscopy of P3HT‐b‐PE‐b‐P3HT revealed that the material underwent phase separation in the solid state, a feature which may prove useful for improving charge mobilities within electronic devices. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on novel diblock copolymers of poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) and poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVPON) (PVCL‐b‐PVPON) with well‐defined block lengths synthesized by the MADIX/reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. We show that the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of the block copolymers are controllable over the length of PVCL and PVPON segments. All of the diblock copolymers dissolve molecularly in aqueous solutions when the temperature is below the LCST and form spherical micellar or vesicular morphologies when temperature is raised above the LCST. The size of the self‐assembled structures is controlled by the molar ratio of PVCL and PVPON segments. The synthesized homopolymers and diblock copolymers are demonstrated to be nontoxic at 0.1–1 mg mL?1 concentrations when incubated with HeLa and HEK293 cancer cells for various incubation times and have potential as nanovehicles for drug delivery. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine was conducted in the presence of a cyclic trithiocarbonate (4,7‐diphenyl‐[1,3]dithiepane‐2‐thione) as a reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization agent, and a multiblock polymer with narrow‐polydispersity blocks was prepared. Two kinds of multiblock copolymers of styrene and 4‐vinylpyridine, that is, (ABA)n multi‐triblock copolymers with polystyrene or poly(4‐vinylpyridine) as the outer blocks, were prepared with multiblock polystyrene or poly(4‐vinylpyridine) as a macro‐RAFT agent, respectively. GPC data for the original polymers and polymers cleaved by amine demonstrated the successful synthesis of amphiphilic multiblock copolymers of styrene and 4‐vinylpyridine via two‐step polymerization. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO‐b‐PNIPAAm) triblock copolymer was synthesized via the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer/macromolecular design via the interchange of xanthate (RAFT/MADIX) process with xanthate‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The successful synthesis of the ABA triblock copolymer inspired the preparation of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO) copolymer networks with N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as the crosslinking agent with the similar approach. With the RAFT/MADIX process, PEO chains were successfully blocked into poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) networks. The unique architecture of PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO networks allows investigating the effect of the blocked PEO chains on the deswelling and reswelling behavior of PNIPAAm hydrogels. It was found that with the inclusion of PEO chains into the PNIPAAm networks as midblocks, the swelling ratios of the hydrogels were significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the PNIPAAm‐b‐PEO hydrogels displayed faster response to the external temperature changes than the control PNIPAAm hydrogel. The accelerated deswelling and reswelling behaviors have been interpreted based on the formation of PEO microdomains in the PNIPAAm networks, which could act as the hydrophilic tunnels to facilitate the diffusion of water molecules in the PNIPAAm networks. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether)‐b‐poly(ethylene terephthalate) block copolymer was performed by the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl modified poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether) (PPE‐EtOH) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) by an in situ process, during the synthesis of the polyester. The yield of the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl functionalized PPE‐EtOH with PET was close to 100%. A significant proportion of the PET‐b‐PPE‐EtOH block copolymer was found to have short PET block. Nevertheless, the copolymer structured in the shape of micelles (20 nm diameter) and very small domains with 50–200 nm diameter, whereas unmodified PPE formed much larger domains (1.5 μm) containing copolymer. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A poly(D,L ‐lactide)–bromine macroinitiator was synthesized for use in the preparation of a novel biocompatible polymer. This amphiphilic diblock copolymer consisted of biodegradable poly(D,L ‐lactide) and 2‐methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine and was formed by atom transfer radical polymerization. Polymeric nanoparticles were prepared by a dialysis process in a select solvent. The shape and structure of the polymeric nanoparticles were determined by 1H NMR, atomic force microscopy, and ζ‐potential measurements. The results of cytotoxicity tests showed the good cytocompatibility of the lipid‐like diblock copolymer poly(2‐methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine)‐block‐poly(D,L ‐lactide). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(m‐phenylene) (PMP), which is poly(1,3‐dibutoxy‐m‐phenylene), was successfully synthesized via Grignard metathesis polymerization. PMP with a reasonably high number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 25,900 and a very low polydispersity index of 1.07 was obtained. The polymerization of a Grignard reagent monomer, 1‐bromo‐2,4‐dibutoxy‐5‐chloromagnesiobenzene, proceeded in a chain‐growth manner, probably due to the meta‐substituted design producing a short distance between the MgCl and Br groups and thereby making a smooth nickel species (? C? Ni? C? ) transfer to the intramolecular chain end (? C? Ni? Br) over a benzene ring. PMP showed a good solubility in the common organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran, CH2Cl2, and CHCl3. Furthermore, a new block copolymer comprised of PMP and poly(3‐hexylthiophene) was also prepared. The tapping mode atomic force microscopy image of the surface of the block copolymer thin film on a mica substrate showed a nanofibril morphology with a clear contrast. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of [polystyrene‐b‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)]n star‐block copolymers with the poly(2‐vinylpyridine) blocks at the periphery. A two‐step living anionic polymerization method was used. Firstly, oligo(styryl)lithium grafted poly(divinylbenzene) cores were used as multifunctional initiators to initiate living anionic polymerization of styrene in benzene at room temperature. Secondly, vinylpyridine was polymerized at the periphery of these living (polystyrene)n stars in tetrahydrofuran at ?78 °C. The resulting copolymers were characterized using size exclusion chromatography, multiangle laser light scattering, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, characterization, and solvent‐induced structure formation in thin films of an amphiphilic rod‐coil conjugated block copolymer, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide). The diblock copolymers were prepared by a facile click reaction and their characterizations as well as thermal, crystalline, optical properties, and self‐assembly behavior have been investigated in detail. A series of morphologies including two‐phase separated nanostructure, nanofibrils, and their mixed morphology could be obtained depending on the selectivity of solvents to different blocks. Structural analyses demonstrate there is a subtle balance between microphase separation of copolymer and the π‐π stacking of the conjugated P3HT and such balance can be controlled by changing the solvents of different selectivity in solution and the length of P3HT block. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Block copolymers of poly(glycidol)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) were obtained by ATRP of 4‐vinylpyridine initiated by ω‐(2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiators. By changing the monomer/macroinitiator ratio in the synthesis polymers with varied P4VP/PGl molar ratio were obtained. The obtained block copolymers showed pH sensitive solubility. It was found that the linkage of a hydrophilic poly(glycidol) block to a P4VP influenced the pKa value of P4VP. DLS measurements showed the formation of fully collapsed aggregates exceeding pH 4.7. Above this pH values the collapsed P4VP core of the aggregates was stabilized by a surrounding hydrophilic poly(glycidol) corona. The size of the aggregates depended significantly upon the composition of the block copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 1782–1794, 2009  相似文献

The thermoresponsive poly(ionic liquid) of poly[1‐(4‐vinylbenzyl)‐3‐methylimidozolium tetrafluoroborate] trithiocarbonate (P[VBMI][BF4]‐TTC) showing the soluble‐to‐insoluble phase transition in the methanol/water mixture at the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) was synthesized by solution RAFT polymerization and the synthesized P[VBMI][BF4]‐TTC was employed as macro‐RAFT agent to mediate the RAFT polymerization under dispersion condition to afford the thermoresponsive diblock copolymer nanoparticles of poly[1‐(4‐vinylbenzyl)‐3‐methylimidozolium tetrafluoroborate]‐b‐polystyrene (P[VBMI][BF4]‐b‐PS). The controllable solution RAFT polymerization was achieved as indicated by the linearly increasing polymer molecular weight with the monomer conversion and the narrow molecular weight distribution. The P[VBMI][BF4]‐TTC macro‐RAFT agent mediated dispersion polymerization afforded the P[VBMI][BF4]‐b‐PS nanoparticles, the size of which was uncorrelated with the polymerization degree of the P[VBMI][BF4] block. Several parameters including the polymerization degree, the polymer concentration and the water content in the solvent of the methanol/water mixture were found to be correlated with the UCST of the poly(ionic liquid). The synthesized poly(ionic liquid) is believed to be a new thermos‐responsive polymer and will be useful in material science. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Herein the first reported preparation of diblock copolymers of the polyethylene‐like polyester poly(ω‐pentadecalactone) (PPDL) via a combination of enzymatic ring‐opening polymerization (eROP) and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization techniques is described. PPDL was synthesized via eROP using Novozyme 435 as a catalyst and a bifunctional initiator/chain transfer agent (CTA) appropriate for the eROP of ω‐pentadecalactone (PDL) and RAFT polymerization of acrylic and styrenic monomers. Chain growth of the PPDL macro‐CTA was performed to prepare acrylic and styrenic diblock copolymers of PPDL, and demonstrates a facile, metal‐free, and “greener” alternative to preparing acrylic diblock copolymers of polyethylene (PE). Diblock copolymer architecture was substantiated via analysis of 1H NMR spectroscopic, UV‐GPC chromatographic, DSC onset crystallization (Tc), and MALDI‐ToF mass spectrometric data. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (P3HT‐b‐PBLG) rod–rod diblock copolymer was synthesized by a ring‐opening polymerization of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐N‐carboxyanhydride using a benzylamine‐terminated regioregular P3HT macroinitiator. The opto‐electronic properties of the diblock copolymer have been investigated. The P3HT precursor and the P3HT‐b‐PBLG have similar UV–Vis spectra both in solution and solid state, indicating that the presence of PBLG block does not decrease the effective conjugation length of the semiconducting polythiophene segment. The copolymer displays solvatochromic behavior in THF/water mixtures. The morphology of the diblock copolymer depends upon the solvent used for film casting and annealing results in morphological changes for both films deposited from chloroform and trichlorobenzene.

Polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (PS‐b‐P2VP) diblock copolymer was functionalized with luminescent chlorotricarbonyl rhenium (I) phenanthroline complex in the presence of silver perchlorate. The copolymer‐metal complex showed high sensitivity to the solvent system. Different morphologies and dimensions of the rhenium complex within nanosized micelles were controlled by changing the solvent systems. Core‐embedded rhenium complex within micelles appear by adding methanol, a poor solvent for the copolymer‐metal complex, to the solution of common solvent tetrahydrofuran (THF); the number of the core‐embedded rhenium complex and the scale of the micelles are strongly related to the addition of methanol. Moreover, a novel morphology of corona‐embedded rhenium complex micelles was prepared by dropping the original THF solution of copolymer‐metal complex into water at a low pH value. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization is a more robust and versatile approach than other living free radical polymerization methods, providing a reactive thiocarbonylthio end group. A series of well‐defined star diblock [poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)]4 (SPCLNIP) copolymers were synthesized by R‐RAFT polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) using [PCL‐DDAT]4 (SPCL‐DDAT) as a star macro‐RAFT agent (DDAT: S‐1‐dodecyl‐S′‐(α, α′‐dimethyl‐α″‐acetic acid) trithiocarbonate). The R‐RAFT polymerization showed a controlled/“living” character, proceeding with pseudo‐first‐order kinetics. All these star polymers with different molecular weights exhibited narrow molecular weight distributions of less than 1.2. The effect of polymerization temperature and molecular weight of the star macro‐RAFT agent on the polymerization kinetics of NIPAAm monomers was also addressed. Hardly any radical–radical coupling by‐products were detected, while linear side products were kept to a minimum by careful control over polymerization conditions. The trithiocarbonate groups were transferred to polymer chain ends by R‐RAFT polymerization, providing potential possibility of further modification by thiocarbonylthio chemistry. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Linear and four‐armed poly(l ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(d ‐lactide) (PLLA‐b‐PDLA) block copolymers are synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of d ‐lactide on the end hydroxyl of linear and four‐armed PLLA prepolymers. DSC results indicate that the melting temperature and melting enthalpies of poly (lactide) stereocomplex in the copolymers are obviously lower than corresponding linear and four‐armed PLLA/PDLA blends. Compared with the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA copolymer, the similar linear PLLA‐b‐PDLA shows higher melting temperature (212.3 °C) and larger melting enthalpy (70.6 J g?1). After these copolymers blend with additional neat PLAs, DSC, and WAXD results show that the stereocomplex formation between free PLA molecular chain and enantiomeric PLA block is the major stereocomplex formation. In the linear copolymer/linear PLA blends, the stereocomplex crystallites (sc) as well as homochiral crystallites (hc) form in the copolymer/PLA cast films. However, in the four‐armed copolymer/linear PLA blends, both sc and hc develop in the four‐armed PLLA‐b‐PDLA/PDLA specimen, which means that the stereocomplexation mainly forms between free PDLA molecule and the inside PLLA block, and the outside PDLA block could form some microcrystallites. Although the melting enthalpies of stereocomplexes in the blends are smaller than that of neat copolymers, only two‐thirds of the molecular chains participate in the stereocomplex formation, and the crystallization efficiency strengthens. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined amphiphilic copolymer of ‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) linked with comb‐shaped [poly(styrene‐co‐2‐hydeoxyethyl methacrylate)‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)] (PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA)‐g‐PCL) was successfully synthesized by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with ring‐opening anionic polymerization and coordination–insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The α‐methoxy poly(ethylene oxide) (mPEO) with ω,3‐benzylsulfanylthiocarbonylsufanylpropionic acid (BSPA) end group (mPEO‐BSPA) was prepared by the reaction of mPEO with 3‐benzylsulfanylthiocarbonylsufanyl propionic acid chloride (BSPAC), and the reaction efficiency was close to 100%; then the mPEO‐BSPA was used as a macro‐RAFT agent for the copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) using 2,2‐azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. The molecular weight of copolymer PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA) increased with the monomer conversion, but the molecular weight distribution was a little wide. The influence of molecular weight of macro‐RAFT agent on the polymerization procedure was discussed. The ROP of ε‐caprolactone was then completed by initiation of hydroxyl groups of the PEO‐b‐P(St‐co‐HEMA) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). Thus, the amphiphilic copolymer of linear PEO linked with comb‐like P(St‐co‐HEMA)‐g‐PCL was obtained. The final and intermediate products were characterized in detail by NMR, GPC, and UV. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 467–476, 2006  相似文献
