Information on available polystyrene calibration spheres is presented regarding the particle diameter, uncertainty in the size, and the width of the size distribution for particles in a size range between 20 and 100nm. The use of differential mobility analysis for measuring the single primary calibration standard in this size range, 100nm NIST Standard Reference Material®1963, is described along with the key factors in the uncertainty assessment. The issues of differences between international standards and traceability to the NIST Standard are presented. The lack of suitable polystyrene spheres in the 20–40nm size range will be discussed in terms of measurement uncertainty and width of the size distributions. Results on characterizing a new class of molecular particles known as dendrimers will be described and the possibilities of using these as size calibration standards for the size range from 3 to 15nm will be discussed.  相似文献

THz emission spectroscopy is used to study the generation mechanism dependent behaviour of terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves from the GaAs crystal under excitation by 40Ohm and 800hm femtosecond (fs) pulses, respectively. The wavelength dependence of the emission spectrum under two types of THz generation mechanis msis analysed. Under the optical rectification mechanism, a slight enhancement of the spectral amplitude in the high-frequency regime is observed in a GaAs(l10) crystal by the excitation of a 400-nm optical pulse compared with that of 800nm. Whereas an obvious red shift of the amplitude spectrum occurs in the GaAs(100) sample under the transient photoconduction mechanism. These phenomena are explained in detail by the duration of the optical pump pulse and the band structure of GaAs, respectively.  相似文献

We develop a systematic procedure of finding integrable 6ldquo;relativistic” (regular one-parameter) deformations for integrable lattice systems. Our procedure is based on the integrable time discretizations and consists of three steps. First, for a given system one finds a local discretization living in the same hierarchy. Second, one considers this discretization as a particular Cauchy problem for a certain 2-dimensional lattice equation, and then looks for another meaningful Cauchy problem, which can be, in turn, interpreted as a new discrete time system. Third, one has to identify integrable hierarchies to which these new discrete time systems belong. These novel hierarchies are called then “relativistic”, the small time step $h$ playing the role of inverse speed of light. We apply this procedure to the Toda lattice (and recover the well-known relativistic Toda lattice), as well as to the Volterra lattice and a certain Bogoyavlensky lattice, for which the “relativistic” deformations were not known previously. The question of the cause of inertial reaction forces and the validity of Mach's principle are investigated. A recent claim that the cause of inertial reaction forces can be attributed to an interaction of the electrical charge of elementary particles with the hypothetical quantum mechanical zero-point fluctuation electromagnetic field is shown to be untenable. It fails to correspond to reality because the coupling of electric charge to the electromagnetic field cannot be made to mimic plausibly the universal coupling of gravity and inertia to the stress-energy-momentum (i.e., matter) tensor. The gravitational explanation of the origin of inertial forces is then briefly laid out, and various important features of it explored in the last half-century are addressed.  相似文献

The direction of propagation followed by a monochromatic beam in a periodic structure is generally deduced from the isofrequency diagram, which is related to the group velocity. However, the group velocity is the derivative of omega with respect to the wavenumber, while the behavior of the beam should depend on omega only. Using the coherent state representation of Wigner operator and the technique of integration within an ordered product (IWOP) of operators, the Wigner functions of the Klauder-Perelomov coherent states (KP-CSs) for the pseudoharmonic oscillator (PHO) are obtained and the variations of the Wigner functions with the parameters k and z are discussed. Moreover, the tomograms of the KP-CSs for the PHO are calculated by virtue of intermediate coordinate-momentum representation in quantum optics. Single-drop and rotating drum dustiness testing was used to investigate the dustiness of loose and compacted montmorillonite (Bentonite) and an organoclay (Nanofil®5), which had been modified from montmorillonite-rich Bentonite. The dustiness was analysed based on filter measurements as well as particle size distributions, the particle generation rate, and the total number of generated particles. Particle monitoring was completed using a TSI Fast Mobility Particle Sizer (FMPS) and a TSI Aerosol Particle Sizer (APS) at 1 s resolution. Low-pressure uniaxial powder compaction of the starting materials showed a logarithmic compaction curve and samples subjected to 3.5 kg/cm2 were used for dustiness testing to evaluate the role of powder compaction, which could occur in powders from large shipments or high-volume storage facilities. The dustiness tests showed intermediate dustiness indices (1,077–2,077 mg/kg powder) in tests of Nanofil®5, Bentonite, and compacted Bentonite, while a high-level dustiness index was found for compacted Nanofil®5 (3,487 mg/kg powder). All powders produced multimodal particle size-distributions in the dust cloud with one mode around 300 nm (Bentonite) or 400 nm (Nanofil®5) as well as one (Nanofil®5) or two modes (Bentonite) with peaks between 1 and 2.5 μm. The dust release was found to occur either as a burst (loose Bentonite and Nanofil®5), constant rate (compacted Nanofil®5), or slowly increasing rate (compacted Bentonite). In rotating drum experiments, the number of particles generated in the FMPS and APS size-ranges were in general agreement with the mass-based dustiness index, but the same order was not observed in the single-drop tests. Compaction of Bentonite reduced the number of generated particles with app. 70 and 40% during single-drop and rotating drum dustiness tests, respectively. Compaction of Nanofil®5 reduced the dustiness in the single-drop test, but it was more than doubled in the rotating drum test. Physically relevant low-pressure compaction may reduce the risk of particle exposure if powders are handled in operations with few agitations such as pouring or tapping. Repeated agitation, e.g., mixing, of these compacted powders, would result in reduced (app. 20% for Bentonite) or highly increased (app. 225% for Nanofil®5) dustiness and thereby alter the exposure risk significantly.  相似文献

Pristine silicon whiskers are compared through energy analysis by separating the surface, edge, and bulk contributions, and by energy computation for a variety of structures and diameters d. It is shown that for d<6 nm a polycrystalline wire of five-fold symmetry, rather than single-crystal types, represents the ground state. It remains stable in molecular dynamics tests up to approximately 1000 K. Its specific surface reconstruction also stands out in that it favors kinetics of whisker growth and thus appears potentially realizable.  相似文献
