Gene silencing by double-stranded RNA (Nobel Lecture)   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
I would like to thank the Nobel Assembly of the Karolinska Institute for the opportunity to describe some recent work on RNA‐triggered gene silencing. First a few disclaimers, however. Telling the full story of gene silencing would be a mammoth enterprise that would take me many years to write and would take you well into the night to read. So we'll need to abbreviate the story more than a little. Second (and as you will see) we are only in the dawn of our knowledge; so consider the following to be primer …? the best we could do as of December 8th 2006. And third, please understand that the story that I am telling represents the work of several generations of biologists, chemists, and many shades in between. I'm pleased and proud that work from my laboratory has contributed to the field, and that this has led to my being chosen as one of the messengers to relay the story in this forum. At the same time, I hope that there will be no confusion of equating our modest contributions with those of the much grander RNAi enterprise.  相似文献

EDITORIAL
Happy New Year!
As many of you are aware that Chinese science is at the crucial stage of development. We are now seeing more and more high quality works being produced by Chinese scientists working in China. However, high quality scientific works are rarely published in Chinese scientific journals so far. Therefore, the development of scientific journals publishing in China now becomes a more and more important indication of the science development in China.
In the development of the chemical physics research field in China, the Chinese Journal of Chemical Physics (CJCP) has made significant contributions in the past 18 years. Since CJCP is primarily a Journal published in Chinese previously, its impact in the international scientific community has been quite limited. At this moment, we believe CJCP should increase its impact in the international community. We believe that making CJCP an English journal is a crucial step to increase its in°uence internationally. Therefore, upon the recommendation of senior editorial members, we now change CJCP into an full English journal from this issue on. We have also formed a high quality editorial board to help the editorial matters in CJCP, and a prestigious advisory board to advise us of the future development. I am very honored to be selected as the new Editor-in-Chief for the next four years. I hope by the end of my term, the impact of this journal is significantly improved through the efforts of our editorial team.
Building a high quality scientific journal is not an easy task. I hope that every member of our chemical physics community can provide strong support to this journal by sending your high quality research papers in the future. We are also thinking about adding new sections of this journal to attract more readers. With the support of our community, I am confident that we can make this journal a more successful one.
Here, I want to take this opportunity to thank the great leadership provided by the Editor-in-Chief since the foundation of this journal, Professor Nan-quan Lou, who has just become a senior advisory board member of this journal. I also want to thank the senior associate editor, Prof. Shu-qin Yu, who has made great contributions to the development of CJCP. Many thanks also go to the other senior associate editors, Profs. Die-yan Chen, Hai-lung Dai, Xing-xiao Ma, Han-qing Wang, Hou-wen Xin, Cun-hao Zhang and Qi-he Zhu, who have made important contributions to CJCP in the past 18 years.
We plan that CJCP will soon become available online so that members of our community can access this journal easily through internet. This will also help us to provide greater visibility of this journal in the international research community.

We, the Editors and Publisher of Journal of Coordination Chemistry, have retracted the following article:

Yu-Yuan Tang, Cui-Juan Wang, Shuang Chen & Hai-Yu Dai. A terbium(III) organic framework as a fluorescent probe for selectively sensing of organic small molecules and metal ions especially nitrobenzene and Fe3+. Journal of Coordination Chemistry 70.24 (2017) 3996-4007. DOI:10.1080/00958972.2017.1413490

Since publication it has come to our attention that there are duplications of data for the terbium compound presented in the above 2017 article and the europium compound (compound 1) presented in the following 2018 article.

Yu-Yuan Tang, Shuang Chen, Cui-Juan Wang, Zi-Xin Zhu & Dong-Ning Liu. Four Ln-coordination polymers: synthesis, crystal structure, fluorescent sensing of nitrobenzene and Tb3+, and catalytic properties. Journal of Coordination Chemistry 71.19 (2018) 3207-3221. DOI: 10.1080/00958972.2018.1517257

The cell constants presented in the two papers for the two different compounds are identical, including the esds for the lengths of the axes and the absence of esds on the bond angles. Examination of the submitted CIFs for the two compounds showed identical information plus additional data, including the crystal dimensions. The deposited hkl files for the two different compounds are identical, indicating that the same crystal data was used for the two compounds.

Following COPE guidelines, Taylor & Francis has contacted the authors as well as their affiliated institution with a request for clarification, however the explanation we received has not been satisfactory. As such, we are retracting both papers as it is clear data has been duplicated between the two structures. The authors were informed of this decision and have since agreed to the retraction.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions.

The retracted articles will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but they will be digitally watermarked on each page as “Retracted”.  相似文献

Preface
Welcome to the Reader! You, the reader, hold in your hands a valuable journal issue that contains a number of thermal analysis papers that were presented at the 32nd annual meeting of the North American Thermal Analysis Society (NATAS). This conference was held in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA from the October 4 to 6, 2004. NATAS is known of its dedication in promoting the understanding and advancement of thermal analysis. NATAS is the largest national thermal analysis society in the world, and over its more than 30 year existence, it has represented the interests of numerous scientists, technicians and engineers, as well as major instrument vendors functioning in the area of thermal analysis. NATAS is an affiliate of the International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (ICTAC), and has been co-operating with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) for a long time especially Committee E37 on Thermal Measurements. The Short Course in Thermal Analysis held right before the conference, provide excellent educational opportunities for technical people, both experienced in the use of thermal analysis and those expanding their skills to learn thermal analysis. In this year's program, by our count, 225 papers were presented in nineteen different sessions (Kinetics; Fast Scan DSC; Semicrystalline Polymers; Thermal Conductivity; Pharmaceuticals; Poster Session; Educational Applications; Thermoplastic Polymers; Combined and Hyphenated Techniques; Composites, Nanocomposites and Thermosets; Thermal Hazards/Energetic Materials; Wood Materials; Rheology; Foods; Professional Enhancement; General Session; Flame Retardancy; Films and Fibers; Medical Polymers). Although thermal analysis is present in all areas of chemistry, the just described list of 2004 NATAS sessions clearly indicates that polymers still represent the majority among the materials tested by thermal analysis, or at least by the NATAS membership. Another phenomenon that may be seen when comparing these papers with earlier NATAS issues is some structural change in the type of the papers. As the chemical industry is inevitably being transformed in the era of globalization, it also affects thermal analysis. The emphasis is shifted from theoretical papers more to applications of thermal analysis. This special issue contains selected papers from the 2004 Annual NATAS Meeting. Another group of selected papers will be published in Thermochimica Acta. You may be surprised to see the NATAS material collected in two special issues of the two thermal analysis journals. However, NATAS has now decided it is time to return to the good old times and publish together the selected papers presented at its annual meeting. This year was a trial year of how the best NATAS papers should be presented to the world. The 2005 NATAS papers will be published in one special issue of Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry. At the annual NATAS meetings, in addition to the classical conference, there is always an instrument exhibition of a considerable size. The most important instrument manufacturers of the world are always present at this exhibition. In addition of being present, they provide funding to NATAS through financing some of the essential needs of the conference. Thus, we sincerely thank the following NATAS conference sponsors for their support: TA Instruments, PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences and Mettler-Toledo. We are also thankful to both symposia sponsors: ExxonMobil Chemical Company and Abbott Laboratories. We hope the excellent relationship between NATAS and its corporate sponsors, and the instrument vendors is permanent. Above all, we thank all the authors and reviewers for their valuable contribution, because we feel that re-starting of regular publishing of the papers of the annual NATAS meetings is extremely important. We express our gratitude to the editorial offices of both Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, and Thermochimica Acta for providing the opportunity to publish these papers.  相似文献

A resonance light-scattering (RLS), which was creatively suggested for the first time by Pasternack et al. in 1993 [R.F. Pasternack, C. Bustamante, P.J. Collings, A. Giannetto, E.J. Gibbs, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 115 (1993) 5393], have been enjoyably practiced by numerous investigators for various quantitative events since 1995, and hitherto many research papers and some review papers have got published on lots of international journals specialized in or related to analytical and/or bioanalytical sciences. As revealed from these published papers of interests, however, it is a pity that the meaning of RLS is often apprehended unsatisfactorily both in theory and in practice. In this comment, as a result, I would like to do my best to propose an apprehension of the meaning of RLS as full and exact as possible and simultaneously I would like to deliver the important guiding role of this proposed apprehension in the course of the applications of RLS for various quantitative purposes.  相似文献

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year again! This year is very special for CJCP since it is the 20th anniversary. We have seen a tremendousdevelopment in the field of chemical physics in China in the last 20 years. CJCP has always been there in this important period of development in Chinese science, and CJCP has made significant and important contributions to the development of the chemical physics research field in China. And we certainly will continue to do so in the future.
In the beginning of last year, we changed the journal into a full English journal in an effort to enhance the journal impact in the international scientific community. In this transition period, CJCP has encountered many difficulties, and we have also made great progresses. We deeply believe that making CJCP a full English journal is an important step to increase its influence in the international research community. We hope this is the moment of a new start for the great traditionof CJCP to serve the Chinese chemical physics and physical chemistry community, and beyond. Now, our new web based editorial and review system is in place, we hope CJCPwill serve our community in a more efficient and direct way (Website: http://cjcp.ustc.edu.cn ). With the support of the chemical physics and physical chemistry community, I am confident that this journal will make more significant contributions to the development of the chemical physics researchfield.
At this 20th anniversary of CJCP, I want to take this special opportunity to thank many people who have lead this journal through difficulties and triumphs in the most part of the last 20 years, especially the former Editor-in-Chief, Professor Nanquan Lou, and the former senior associate editor, Prof. Shuqin Yu. And I also want to thank the editorial staff members who have made great efforts in producing a high quality scientific journal. At last, I hope everybody who cares about the Chinese chemical physics development will support our effort to make this journal better.

It is an exceptional honor and privilege for me to contribute to this special symposium “Polymer Synthesis-The 1980's”, and lam very much obliged to Eli Pearce for giving me the opportunity to present to you a short report on the life and on the extraordinary accomplishments of our new Honorary Doctor of Sciences. When, about a year ago a group of us thought that our Polymer Research Institute should recognize Professor Marvel's outstanding contribution to polymer science in an unusual manner, it was felt that a special symposium should be organized in his honor and that he should receive an Honorary Degree of Science at this occasion. The conferment of such a degree is, of course, a matter of the faculty, but our Provost, Professor Donaruma, succeeded to overcome all difficulties and we were able to issue the invitation for this symposium which, to our great satisfaction, is being attended by such a large group of friends and admirers of our honoree. A few who would have liked to be here were unable to come but sent letters with the expression of their sincere regrets to be absent and of their congratulations. I am giving these letters to Professor Marvel; they are signed by Ed Jefferson, Dick Heckert, Paul Flory, and Frank Press. But now to the topic of my address.  相似文献

It's wonderful to be here today, I would like to start with the most important part, by saying thank you. First of all, I want to thank Andy Fire for being such a tremendous colleague, friend, and collaborator going back over the years. Without Andy I definitely wouldn't be here today. I need to thank the University of Massachusetts for providing for my laboratory, for believing in me, and for giving me not only a place and money, but great colleagues with whom to pursue my research. Without UMass and the great environment provided for me there, I probably would not be here today. And, of course my family; I'm not going to spend time now thanking them individually, but they know how important they are.  相似文献

Abstract

Sanitary land fills are the alternate to waste incineration in New Jersey. While industrial waste disposal is controlled, few restrictions apply to the disposal of domestic solid waste. Among the materials of concern from domestic sources are colored gift wrapping papers. Cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, lead and zinc were determined in some dozen and a half samples of gift wrapping paper by atomic absorption spectrometry after wet ashing and after simulated leaching. High levels of lead and chromium were found in many of the papers. The leachates showed correspondingly high levels of lead.  相似文献

We generalize the results of our research and develop the concept of molecular design as a strategy for controlling photocatalytic processes by designing organized systems in which all the conversions connected with electron transfer are coordinated.Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Éksperimental'naya Khimiya, Vol. 30, No. 4, pp. 175–191, July–August, 1994.We would like to express our deep appreciation to our colleagues A. V. Korzhak, N. F. Guba, and S. V. Kulik, the coauthors of our original papers which were the basis for this generalization.  相似文献

By making creep and recoverable creep measurements of a nearly monodisperse low molecular weight poly(methyl phenyl siloxane) sample, we have found on decreasing temperature towardsT g that there is continuously a change in the viscoelastic spectrum concomitant with a decrease of the steadystate recoverable compliance. This behavior is exactly the same as previously observed in low molecular weight poly(styrene), proving that this spectacular anomaly in the viscoelasticity of low molecular weight polymers is general and deserves an explanation. Photon correlation spectroscopic measurements performed on the same sample have extended the observation of the viscoelastic response to shorter times and the result corroborates the trend of variation established by the creep data.Dedicated to Prof.Dr. E. W. Fischer on his 65th Birthday. Prof.Dr. Fischer is known for his valuable contribution to fosterine, international collaboration of research in polymer science. This work is an example of his contribution because it would not be possible without him bringing us together. One of us (KLN) would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. Dr. Fischer for his unwaiving support of the 1st (Crete) and the 2nd (Alicante) International Discussion Meeting on Relaxations in Complex Systems  相似文献
