If XY are two classes of analytic functions in the unit disk D and θ is an inner function, θ is said to be (X,Y)-improving, if every function fX satisfying fθY must actually satisfy fθX. This notion has been recently introduced by K.M. Dyakonov. In this paper we study the (X,Y)-improving inner functions for several pairs of spaces (X,Y). In particular, we prove that for any p∈(0,1) the (Qp,BMOA)-improving inner functions and the (Qp,B)-improving inner functions are precisely the inner functions which belong to the space Qp. Here, B is the Bloch space. We also improve some results of Dyakonov on the subject regarding Lipschitz spaces and Besov spaces.  相似文献

We call a Banach space X admitting the Mazur-Ulam property (MUP) provided that for any Banach space Y, if f is an onto isometry between the two unit spheres of X and Y, then it is the restriction of a linear isometry between the two spaces. A generalized Mazur-Ulam question is whether every Banach space admits the MUP. In this paper, we show first that the question has an affirmative answer for a general class of Banach spaces, namely, somewhere-flat spaces. As their immediate consequences, we obtain on the one hand that the question has an approximately positive answer: Given ε>0, every Banach space X admits a (1+ε)-equivalent norm such that X has the MUP; on the other hand, polyhedral spaces, CL-spaces admitting a smooth point (in particular, separable CL-spaces) have the MUP.  相似文献

Let us consider a Banach space X with the property that every real-valued Lipschitz function f can be uniformly approximated by a Lipschitz, C1-smooth function g with Lip(g)?CLip(f) (with C depending only on the space X). This is the case for a Banach space X bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic to a subset of c0(Γ), for some set Γ, such that the coordinate functions of the homeomorphism are C1-smooth (Hájek and Johanis, 2010 [10]). Then, we prove that for every closed subspace YX and every C1-smooth (Lipschitz) function f:YR, there is a C1-smooth (Lipschitz, respectively) extension of f to X. We also study C1-smooth extensions of real-valued functions defined on closed subsets of X. These results extend those given in Azagra et al. (2010) [4] to the class of non-separable Banach spaces satisfying the above property.  相似文献

Consider a Banach function space X(μ) of (classes of) locally integrable functions over a σ-finite measure space (Ω,Σ,μ) with the weak σ-Fatou property. Day and Lennard (2010) [9] proved that the theorem of Komlós on convergence of Cesàro sums in L1[0,1] holds also in these spaces; i.e. for every bounded sequence n(fn) in X(μ), there exists a subsequence k(fnk) and a function fX(μ) such that for any further subsequence j(hj) of k(fnk), the series converges μ-a.e. to f. In this paper we generalize this result to a more general class of Banach spaces of classes of measurable functions — spaces L1(ν) of integrable functions with respect to a vector measure ν on a δ-ring — and explore to which point the Fatou property and the Komlós property are equivalent. In particular we prove that this always holds for ideals of spaces L1(ν) with the weak σ-Fatou property, and provide an example of a Banach lattice of measurable functions that is Fatou but do not satisfy the Komlós Theorem.  相似文献

A Banach space X is said to have the kp-approximation property (kp-AP) if for every Banach space Y, the space F(Y,X) of finite rank operators is dense in the space Kp(Y,X) of p-compact operators endowed with its natural ideal norm kp. In this paper we study this notion that has been previously treated by Sinha and Karn (2002) in [15]. As application, the kp-AP of dual Banach spaces is characterized via density of finite rank operators in the space of quasi p-nuclear operators for the p-summing norm. This allows to obtain a relation between the kp-AP and Saphar's approximation property. As another application, the kp-AP is characterized in terms of a trace condition. Finally, we relate the kp-AP to the (p,p)-approximation property introduced in Sinha and Karn (2002) [15] for subspaces of Lp(μ)-spaces.  相似文献

We formulate a general theory of positions for subspaces of a Banach space: we define equivalent and isomorphic positions, study the automorphy index a(Y,X) that measures how many non-equivalent positions Y admits in X, and obtain estimates of a(Y,X) for X a classical Banach space such as ?p,Lp,L1,C(ωω) or C[0,1]. Then, we study different aspects of the automorphic space problem posed by Lindenstrauss and Rosenthal; namely, does there exist a separable automorphic space different from c0 or ?2? Recall that a Banach space X is said to be automorphic if every subspace Y admits only one position in X; i.e., a(Y,X)=1 for every subspace Y of X. We study the notion of extensible space and uniformly finitely extensible space (UFO), which are relevant since every automorphic space is extensible and every extensible space is UFO. We obtain a dichotomy theorem: Every UFO must be either an L-space or a weak type 2 near-Hilbert space with the Maurey projection property. We show that a Banach space all of whose subspaces are UFO (called hereditarily UFO spaces) must be asymptotically Hilbertian; while a Banach space for which both X and X are UFO must be weak Hilbert. We then refine the dichotomy theorem for Banach spaces with some additional structure. In particular, we show that an UFO with unconditional basis must be either c0 or a superreflexive weak type 2 space; that a hereditarily UFO Köthe function space must be Hilbert; and that a rearrangement invariant space UFO must be either L or a superreflexive type 2 Banach lattice.  相似文献

Kuratowski and Ryll-Nardzewski's theorem about the existence of measurable selectors for multi-functions is one of the keystones for the study of set-valued integration; one of the drawbacks of this result is that separability is always required for the range space. In this paper we study Pettis integrability for multi-functions and we obtain a Kuratowski and Ryll-Nardzewski's type selection theorem without the requirement of separability for the range space. Being more precise, we show that any Pettis integrable multi-function F:Ωcwk(X) defined in a complete finite measure space (Ω,Σ,μ) with values in the family cwk(X) of all non-empty convex weakly compact subsets of a general (non-necessarily separable) Banach space X always admits Pettis integrable selectors and that, moreover, for each AΣ the Pettis integral coincides with the closure of the set of integrals over A of all Pettis integrable selectors of F. As a consequence we prove that if X is reflexive then every scalarly measurable multi-function F:Ωcwk(X) admits scalarly measurable selectors; the latter is also proved when (X,w) is angelic and has density character at most ω1. In each of these two situations the Pettis integrability of a multi-function F:Ωcwk(X) is equivalent to the uniform integrability of the family . Results about norm-Borel measurable selectors for multi-functions satisfying stronger measurability properties but without the classical requirement of the range Banach space being separable are also obtained.  相似文献

A topological space X is said to have the Scorza-Dragoni property if the following property holds: For every metric space Y and every Radon measure space (T,μ), any Carathéodory function is Luzin measurable, i.e., given ε>0, there is a compact set K in T with μ(T?K)?ε such that the mapping is continuous. We present a selection of spaces without the Scorza-Dragoni property, among which there are first countable hereditarily separable and hereditarily Lindelöf compact spaces, separable Moore spaces and even countable k-spaces. In the positive direction, it is shown that every space which is an 0-space and kR-space has the Scorza-Dragoni property. We also prove that every separately continuous mapping , where Y is a metric space, is Luzin measurable, provided the space X is strongly functionally generated by a countable collection of its bounded subsets. If Martin's Axiom is assumed then all metric spaces of density less than c, and all pseudocompact spaces of cardinality less than c, have the Scorza-Dragoni property with respect to every separable Radon measure μ. Finally, the class of countable spaces with the Scorza-Dragoni property is closely examined.  相似文献

It is shown that every Euclidean manifold M has the following property for any m?1: If f:XY is a perfect surjection between finite-dimensional metric spaces, then the mapping space C(X,M) with the source limitation topology contains a dense Gδ-subset of maps g such that dimBm(g)?mdimf+dimY−(m−1)dimM. Here, Bm(g)={(y,z)∈Y×M||f−1(y)∩g−1(z)|?m}. The existence of residual sets of finite-to-one maps into product of manifolds and spaces having disjoint disks properties is also obtained.  相似文献

We prove that if X and Y are compact Hausdorff spaces, then every fC(X × Y)+, i.e. f(x, y) ≥ 0 for all (x, y) ∈ X × Y, can be approximated uniformly from below and above by elements of the form , where fiC(X)+ and giC(Y)+ for i = 1, 2, …, n. The proof uses only elementary topology. We use this result, in conjuction with Kakutani's M-spaces representation theorem, to obtain an alternative proof for a known property of Fremlin's Riesz space tensor product of Archimedean Riesz spaces.  相似文献

We prove the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorem for operators from an arbitrary Banach space X into a Banach space Y whenever the range space has property β of Lindenstrauss. We also characterize those Banach spaces Y for which the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorem holds for operators from ?1 into Y. Several examples of classes of such spaces are provided. For instance, the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás theorem holds when the range space is finite-dimensional, an L1(μ)-space for a σ-finite measure μ, a C(K)-space for a compact Hausdorff space K, or a uniformly convex Banach space.  相似文献

Abstract

Let (X, ≤) be a partially ordered set and suppose there is a metric d on X such that (X, d) is a complete separable metric space and (Ω, Σ) be a measurable space. In this article a pair of random mappings F: Ω × (X × X) → X and g: Ω × X → X, where F has a mixed g-monotone property on X, and F and g satisfy the non-linear contractive condition (5) below, are introduced and investigated. Two coupled random coincidence and coupled random fixed point theorems are proved. These results are random versions and extensions of recent results of Lakshmikantham and ?iri? [V. Lakshmikantham and Lj. ?iri?, Coupled fixed point theorems for nonlinear contractions in partially ordered metric spaces. Nonlinear Anal.—Theor. 70(12) (2009): 4341–4349] and include several recent developments.  相似文献

We introduce representable Banach spaces, and prove that the class R of such spaces satisfies the following properties:
(1)
Every member of R has the Daugavet property.
(2)
It Y is a member of R, then, for every Banach space X, both the space L(X,Y) (of all bounded linear operators from X to Y) and the complete injective tensor product lie in R.
(3)
If K is a perfect compact Hausdorff topological space, then, for every Banach space Y, and for most vector space topologies τ on Y, the space C(K,(Y,τ)) (of all Y-valued τ-continuous functions on K) is a member of R.
(4)
If K is a perfect compact Hausdorff topological space, then, for every Banach space Y, most C(K,Y)-superspaces (in the sense of [V. Kadets, N. Kalton, D. Werner, Remarks on rich subspaces of Banach spaces, Studia Math. 159 (2003) 195-206]) are members of R.
(5)
All dual Banach spaces without minimal M-summands are members of R.

A function f:XY is said to be faintly continuous [Kyungpook Math. J. 22 (1982) 7] if f−1(V) is open in X for every θ-open set V of Y. In this paper, we introduce and investigate two weaken forms of faint continuity which are called faint α-continuity and faint γ-continuity. We obtain their characterizations, their basic properties and their relationships with other types of functions between topological spaces also, some results in (A.A. El-Atik, A study of some types of mappings on topological spaces, M.Sc. Thesis, Tanta University, Egypt, 1997) are improved. We speculate that weak-faint continuity may be relevant to the physics of fractal and Cantorian spacetime.  相似文献

Let f(X) and g(Y) be nondegenerate quadratic forms of dimensions m and n, respectively, over K, char K ≠ 2. The problem of birational composition of f(X) and g(Y) is considered: When is the product f(X) · g(Y) birationally equivalent over K to a quadratic form h(Z) over K of dimension m + n? The solution of the birational composition problem for anisotropic quadratic forms over K in the case of m = n = 2 is given. The main result of the paper is the complete solution of the birational composition problem for forms f(X) and g(Y) over a local field P, char P ≠ 2.  相似文献

For every space X let K(X) be the set of all compact subsets of X. Christensen [J.P.R. Christensen, Necessary and sufficient conditions for measurability of certain sets of closed subsets, Math. Ann. 200 (1973) 189-193] proved that if X,Y are separable metrizable spaces and F:K(X)→K(Y) is a monotone map such that any LK(Y) is covered by F(K) for some KK(X), then Y is complete provided X is complete. It is well known [J. Baars, J. de Groot, J. Pelant, Function spaces of completely metrizable space, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 340 (1993) 871-879] that this result is not true for non-separable spaces. In this paper we discuss some additional properties of F which guarantee the validity of Christensen's result for more general spaces.  相似文献

Given real Banach spaces X and Y, let C wbu1(X, Y) be the space, introduced by R.M. Aron and J.B. Prolla, of C 1 mappings from X into Y such that the mappings and their derivatives are weakly uniformly continuous on bounded sets. We show that fC wbu1(X, Y) if and only if f may be written in the form f = gS, where the intermediate space is normed, S is a precompact operator, and g is a Gateaux differentiable mapping with some additional properties.  相似文献

We show that in any nontrivial Nakano space X=Lp(·) (Ω, Σ, μ) with essentially bounded random exponent function p(·), the range Y = R(P) of a positive contractive projection P is itself representable as a Nakano space LpY(·) (ΩY ΣY, νY), for a certain measurable set YΩ⊆Ω (the support of the range), a certain sub-sigma ring YΣ⊆Σ (with maximal element ΩY) naturally determined by the lattice structure of Y, and a semi-finite measure νY, namely the restriction of some measure Ω on E which is equivalent to μ. Furthermore, we show that the random exponent pY(·) associated with such a range can be taken to be the restriction to ΩY of the random exponent p(·) (this restriction turns out to be ΣY-measurable). As an application of this result, we find Banach lattice isometric characterizations of suitable classes of Nakano spaces. These classes are defined in terms of an important lattice-isometric invariant of Nakano spaces, the essential range of the variable exponent.  相似文献

Let X and Y be topological spaces, let Z be a metric space, and let f:X×YZ be a mapping. It is shown that when Y has a countable base B, then under a rather general condition on the set-valued mappings Xxfx(B)∈Z2, BB, there is a residual set RX such that for every (a,b)∈R×Y, f is jointly continuous at (a,b) if (and only if) fa:YZ is continuous at b. Several new results are also established when the notion of continuity is replaced by that of quasicontinuity or by that of cliquishness. Our approach allows us to unify and improve various results from the literature.  相似文献

A metric space X is said to be absolutely Lipschitz extendable if every Lipschitz function f from X into any Banach space Z can be extended to any containing space Y?X, where the loss in the Lipschitz constant in the extension is independent of Y,Z, and f. We show that various classes of natural metric spaces are absolutely Lipschitz extendable. To cite this article: J.R. Lee, A. Naor, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 338 (2004).  相似文献
