Let {T1, ..., TN} be a finite set of linear contraction mappings of a Hilbert space H into itself, and let r be a mapping from the natural numbers N to {1, ..., N}. One can form Sn=Tr(n)...Tr(1) which could be described as a random product of the Ti's. Roughly, the Sn converge strongly in the mean, but additional side conditions are necessary to ensure uniform, strong or weak convergence. We examine contractions with three such conditions. (W): xn1, Txn1 implies (I-T)xn0 weakly, (S): xn1, Txn1 implies (I-T)xn0 strongly, and (K): there exists a constant K>0 such that for all x, (I-T)x2K(x2–Tx2).We have three main results in the event that the Ti's are compact contractions. First, if r assumes each value infinitely often, then Sn converges uniformly to the projection Q on the subspace i= 1 N [x|Tix=x]. Secondly we prove that for such compact contractions, the three conditions (W), (S), and (K) are equivalent. Finally if S=S(T1, ..., TN) denotes the algebraic semigroup generated by the Ti's, then there exists a fixed positive constant K such that each element in S satisfies (K) with that K.  相似文献

Let G denote a semisimple group, a discrete subgroup, B=G/P the Poisson boundary. Regarding invariants of discrete subgroups we prove, in particular, the following:(1) For any -quasi-invariant measure on B, and any probablity measure on , the norm of the operator () on L 2(B,) is equal to (), where is the unitary representation in L 2(X,), and is the regular representation of .(2) In particular this estimate holds when is Lebesgue measure on B, a Patterson–Sullivan measure, or a -stationary measure, and implies explicit lower bounds for the displacement and Margulis number of (w.r.t. a finite generating set), the dimension of the conformal density, the -entropy of the measure, and Lyapunov exponents of .(3) In particular, when G=PSL2() and is free, the new lower bound of the displacement is somewhat smaller than the Culler–Shalen bound (which requires an additional assumption) and is greater than the standard ball-packing bound. We also prove that ()=G() for any amenable action of G and L 1(G), and conversely, give a spectral criterion for amenability of an action of G under certain natural dynamical conditions. In addition, we establish a uniform lower bound for the -entropy of any measure quasi-invariant under the action of a group with property T, and use this fact to construct an interesting class of actions of such groups, related to 'virtual' maximal parabolic subgroups. Most of the results hold in fact in greater generality, and apply for instance when G is any semi-simple algebraic group, or when is any word-hyperbolic group, acting on their Poisson boundary, for example.  相似文献

We prove that on a closed, smooth, convex surface of revolution , whose poles are not flattening points, there exists only a countable set of parallels n. Each of these parallels cuts surface into two parts so that one of the parts, , admits nontrivial, infinitesimal bendings in the process of which all the points of its boundary n are displaced on a preassigned, conic sleeve K that is coaxial with the surface. The sequence of such parallels n converges to parallel *, which has the following properties: 1) the tangent cone to surface along * is orthogonal to sleeve K; 2) surface , cut off from surface by parallel *, has rigidity of first order in the indicated class of bendings.Translated from Ukrainskii Geometricheskii Sbornik, No. 33, pp. 3–8, 1990.  相似文献

If (P, L) is a projective plane and is a triangle presentation compatible with a point-line correspondence :P L, then gives rise to a group and a thick building of typeà 2 on the vertices of which acts simply transitively. We find all triangle presentations (up to natural equivalence) compatible with some point-line correspondence :P L, when (P, L) is the projective plane of orderq=2 orq=3. For some, but not all, of these , is isomorphic to the building associated withG=PGL(3,K) whereK is a local field with discrete valuation and residual field of orderq. We identify the for which this is the case, and in these cases, find embeddings of intoG. We also describe the arithmetic nature of these groups.  相似文献

Estimates are gotten for the best approximations in L2 (0, 2) of a periodic function by trigonometric polynomials in terms of its m-th continuity modulus or in terms of the continuity modulus of its r-th derivative. The inequality En–1(f)L2<(C 2m m m(2/n;f)L2(1 const) is proved, where the constant (C 2m m )–1/2 is unimprovable for the whole space L2 (0, 2). Let X0,X1,... be a geometrically ergodic Markov chain with state space and stationary distribution . It is known that if h: R satisfies (|h|2+)< for some >0, then the normalized sums of the Xis obey a central limit theorem. Here we show, by means of a counterexample, that the condition (|h|2+)< cannot be weakened to only assuming a finite second moment, i.e., (h2)<.Reasearch supported by the Swedish Research Council.  相似文献

Since the genus of the modular curve X_1 (8) = _1 (8) * is zero, we find a field generator j 1,8(z) = 3(2z)/3(4z) (3(z) := n ein 2z ) such that the function field over X 1(8) is (j 1,8). We apply this modular function j 1,8 to the construction of some class fields over an imaginary quadratic field K, and compute the minimal polynomial of the singular value of the Hauptmodul N(j 1,8) of (j 1,8).  相似文献

Let XoR n be an irreducible analytic germ and the order space of its field of meromorphicfunetion germs. A formal half-branch in Xo is a kind of C-map germ c[0,)Xo; an ordering is centered at c if it contains the functions which are positive on c. We obtain a partition 1,...,d, d=dim Xo, of the set * of central (i.e.: centered at some half-branch) orderings, according to the dimension of half-branches. Then we show that all e, e= 1,.,d, as well as the set \* of noncentral orderings, are dense in . Finally, we solve the 17th Hubert Problem for analytic germs.  相似文献

We denote byK k ,k, 2, the set of allk-uniform hypergraphsK which have the property that every element subset of the base ofK is a subset of one of the hyperedges ofK. So, the only element inK 2 2 are the complete graphs. If is a subset ofK k then there is exactly one homogeneous hypergraphH whose age is the set of all finite hypergraphs which do not embed any element of . We callH -free homogeneous graphsH n have been shown to be indivisible, that is, for any partition ofH n into two classes, oue of the classes embeds an isomorphic copy ofH n . [5]. Here we will investigate this question of indivisibility in the more general context of-free homogeneous hypergraphs. We will derive a general necessary condition for a homogeneous structure to be indivisible and prove that all-free hypergraphs for K k with 3 are indivisible. The-free hypergraphs with K k 2 satisfy a weaker form of indivisibility which was first shown by Henson [2] to hold forH n . The general necessary condition for homogeneous structures to be indivisible will then be used to show that not all-free homogeneous hypergraphs are indivisible. This research has been supported by NSERC grant 69–1325.  相似文献

Given a convex functionf: p × q (–, +], the marginal function is defined on p by (x)=inf{f(x, y)|y q }. Our purpose in this paper is to express the approximate first-order and second-order directional derivatives of atx 0 in terms of those off at (x 0,y 0), wherey 0 is any element for which (x 0)=f(x 0,y 0).The author is indebted to one referee for pointing out an inaccuracy in an earlier version of Theorem 4.1.  相似文献
