The global minimization of large-scale partially separable non-convex problems over a bounded polyhedral set using a parallel branch and bound approach is considered. The objective function consists of a separable concave part, an unseparated convex part, and a strictly linear part, which are all coupled by the linear constraints. These large-scale problems are characterized by having the number of linear variables much greater than the number of nonlinear variables. An important special class of problems which can be reduced to this form are the synomial global minimization problems. Such problems often arise in engineering design, and previous computational methods for such problems have been limited to the convex posynomial case. In the current work, a convex underestimating function to the objective function is easily constructed and minimized over the feasible domain to get both upper and lower bounds on the global minimum function value. At each minor iteration of the algorithm, the feasible domain is divided into subregions and convex underestimating problems over each subregion are solved in parallel. Branch and bound techniques can then be used to eliminate parts of the feasible domain from consideration and improve the upper and lower bounds. It is shown that the algorithm guarantees that a solution is obtained to within any specified tolerance in a finite number of steps. Computational results obtained on the four processor Cray 2, both sequentially and in parallel on all four processors, are also presented.  相似文献

Stable parametric programs (abbreviation: SPP) are parametric programs with a

Optimal solutions of SPP are paths in the space of “parameters” (inputs, data) that preserve continuity of the feasible set point-to set mapping in the space of “decision variables”. The end points of these paths optimize the optimal value function on a region of stability

In this paper we study only convex SPP. First we study optimality conditions. If the constraints enjoy the locally-flat-surface (“LFS”) property in the decision variable component, then the usual separation arguments apply and we can characterize local and global optimal solutions. Then we consider a well-known marginal value formula for the optimal value function. We prove the formula under new assumptions and then use it to modify a class of quasi-Newton methods in order to solve convex SPP. Finally, several solved case are reported  相似文献

We consider a mathematical program whose constraints involve a parametric P-matrix linear complementarity problem with the design (upper level) variables as parameters. Solutions of this complementarity problem define a piecewise linear function of the parameters. We study a smoothing function of this function for solving the mathematical program. We investigate the limiting behaviour of optimal solutions, KKT points and B-stationary points of the smoothing problem. We show that a class of mathematical programs with P-matrix linear complementarity constraints can be reformulated as a piecewise convex program and solved through a sequence of continuously differentiable convex programs. Preliminary numerical results indicate that the method and convex reformulation are promising.  相似文献

We consider multi-objective convex optimal control problems. First we state a relationship between the (weakly or properly) efficient set of the multi-objective problem and the solution of the problem scalarized via a convex combination of objectives through a vector of parameters (or weights). Then we establish that (i) the solution of the scalarized (parametric) problem for any given parameter vector is unique and (weakly or properly) efficient and (ii) for each solution in the (weakly or properly) efficient set, there exists at least one corresponding parameter vector for the scalarized problem yielding the same solution. Therefore the set of all parametric solutions (obtained by solving the scalarized problem) is equal to the efficient set. Next we consider an additional objective over the efficient set. Based on the main result, the new objective can instead be considered over the (parametric) solution set of the scalarized problem. For the purpose of constructing numerical methods, we point to existing solution differentiability results for parametric optimal control problems. We propose numerical methods and give an example application to illustrate our approach.  相似文献

This paper addresses itself to the algorithm for minimizing the product of two nonnegative convex functions over a convex set. It is shown that the global minimum of this nonconvex problem can be obtained by solving a sequence of convex programming problems. The basic idea of this algorithm is to embed the original problem into a problem in a higher dimensional space and to apply a branch-and-bound algorithm using an underestimating function. Computational results indicate that our algorithm is efficient when the objective function is the product of a linear and a quadratic functions and the constraints are linear. An extension of our algorithm for minimizing the sum of a convex function and a product of two convex functions is also discussed.  相似文献

We consider a countable family of one-parameter convex programs and give sufficient conditions for the one-sided differentiability of its optimal value function. The analysis is based on the Borwein dual problem for a family of convex programs (a convex disjunctive program). We give conditions that assure stability of the situation of perfect duality in the Borwein theory.For the reader's convenience, we start with a review of duality results for families of convex programs. A parametric family of dual problems is introduced that contains the dual problems of Balas and Borwein as special cases. In addition, a vector optimization problem is defined as a dual problem. This generalizes a result by Helbig about families of linear programs.  相似文献

This paper presents a discretize-then-relax methodology to compute convex/concave bounds for the solutions of a wide class of parametric nonlinear ODEs. The procedure builds upon interval methods for ODEs and uses the McCormick relaxation technique to propagate convex/concave bounds. At each integration step, a two-phase procedure is applied: a priori convex/concave bounds that are valid over the entire step are calculated in the first phase; then, pointwise-in-time convex/concave bounds at the end of the step are obtained in the second phase. An approach that refines the interval state bounds by considering subgradients and affine relaxations at a number of reference parameter values is also presented. The discretize-then-relax method is implemented in an object-oriented manner and is demonstrated using several numerical examples.  相似文献

This paper deals with two-stage and multi-stage stochastic programs in which the right-hand sides of the constraints are Gaussian random variables. Such problems are of interest since the use of Gaussian estimators of random variables is widespread. We introduce algorithms to find upper bounds on the optimal value of two-stage and multi-stage stochastic (minimization) programs with Gaussian right-hand sides. The upper bounds are obtained by solving deterministic mathematical programming problems with dimensions that do not depend on the sample space size. The algorithm for the two-stage problem involves the solution of a deterministic linear program and a simple semidefinite program. The algorithm for the multi-stage problem invovles the solution of a quadratically constrained convex programming problem.  相似文献

The continuity of the optimal value function of a parametric convex semi-infinite program is secured by a weak regularity condition that also implies the convergence of certain discretization methods for semi-infinite problems. Since each discretization level yields a parametric program, a sequence of optimal value functions occurs. The regularity condition implies that, with increasing refinement of the discretization, this sequence converges uniformly with respect to the parameter to the optimal value function corresponding to the original semi-infinite problem. Our result is applicable to the convergence analysis of numerical algorithms based on parametric programming, for example, rational approximation and computation of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian.  相似文献

Global solution of nonlinear mixed-integer bilevel programs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
An algorithm for the global optimization of nonlinear bilevel mixed-integer programs is presented, based on a recent proposal for continuous bilevel programs by Mitsos et al. (J Glob Optim 42(4):475–513, 2008). The algorithm relies on a convergent lower bound and an optional upper bound. No branching is required or performed. The lower bound is obtained by solving a mixed-integer nonlinear program, containing the constraints of the lower-level and upper-level programs; its convergence is achieved by also including a parametric upper bound to the optimal solution function of the lower-level program. This lower-level parametric upper bound is based on Slater-points of the lower-level program and subsets of the upper-level host sets for which this point remains lower-level feasible. Under suitable assumptions the KKT necessary conditions of the lower-level program can be used to tighten the lower bounding problem. The optional upper bound to the optimal solution of the bilevel program is obtained by solving an augmented upper-level problem for fixed upper-level variables. A convergence proof is given along with illustrative examples. An implementation is described and applied to a test set comprising original and literature problems. The main complication relative to the continuous case is the construction of the parametric upper bound to the lower-level optimal objective value, in particular due to the presence of upper-level integer variables. This challenge is resolved by performing interval analysis over the convex hull of the upper-level integer variables.  相似文献

We use the merit function technique to formulate a linearly constrained bilevel convex quadratic problem as a convex program with an additional convex-d.c. constraint. To solve the latter problem we approximate it by convex programs with an additional convex-concave constraint using an adaptive simplicial subdivision. This approximation leads to a branch-and-bound algorithm for finding a global optimal solution to the bilevel convex quadratic problem. We illustrate our approach with an optimization problem over the equilibrium points of an n-person parametric noncooperative game.  相似文献

This paper is focused on the stability of the optimal value, and its immediate repercussion on the stability of the optimal set, for a general parametric family of linear optimization problems in n. In our approach, the parameter ranges over an arbitrary metric space, and each parameter determines directly a set of coefficient vectors describing the linear system of constraints. Thus, systems associated with different parameters are not required to have the same number (cardinality) of inequalities. In this way, discretization techniques for solving a nominal linear semi-infinite optimization problem may be modeled in terms of suitable parametrized problems. The stability results given in the paper are applied to the stability analysis of the Lagrangian dual associated with a parametric family of nonlinear programming problems. This dual problem is translated into a linear (semi-infinite) programming problem and, then, we prove that the lower semicontinuity of the corresponding feasible set mapping, the continuity of the optimal value function, and the upper semicontinuity of the optimal set mapping are satisfied. Then, the paper shows how these stability properties for the dual problem entail a nice behavior of parametric approximation and discretization strategies (in which an ordinary linear programming problem may be considered in each step). This approximation–discretization process is formalized by means of considering a double parameter: the original one and the finite subset of indices (grid) itself. In this paper, we review recent advances in the distributional analysis of mixed integer linear programs with random objective coefficients. Suppose that the probability distribution of the objective coefficients is incompletely specified and characterized through partial moment information. Conic programming methods have been recently used to find distributionally robust bounds for the expected optimal value of mixed integer linear programs over the set of all distributions with the given moment information. These methods also provide additional information on the probability that a binary variable attains a value of 1 in the optimal solution for 0–1 integer linear programs. This probability is defined as the persistency of a binary variable. In this paper, we provide an overview of the complexity results for these models, conic programming formulations that are readily implementable with standard solvers and important applications of persistency models. The main message that we hope to convey through this review is that tools of conic programming provide important insights in the probabilistic analysis of discrete optimization problems. These tools lead to distributionally robust bounds with applications in activity networks, vertex packing, discrete choice models, random walks and sequencing problems, and newsvendor problems.  相似文献

For a solvable monotone complementarity problem we show that each feasible point which is not a solution of the problem provides simple numerical bounds for some or all components of all solution vectors. Consequently for a solvable differentiable convex program each primal-dual feasible point which is not optimal provides simple bounds for some or all components of all primal-dual solution vectors. We also give an existence result and simple bounds for solutions of monotone compementarity problems satisfying a new, distributed constraint qualification. The problem of feedback control with a quality index in the form of the Euclidean norm of a set of deviations of the trajectory of motion of the system from the origin of coordinates at specified instants of time is considered for a linear dynamical system that is subjected to the effects of noise and contains a delay in the control element. A procedure for calculating the value of the optimal guaranteed result based on the recursive construction of upper convex hulls of auxiliary functions is given. This paper presents a dual piecewise-linear simplex algorithm for minimizing convex separable piecewise-linear functions subject to linear constraints. It is an extension of Fourier's work on piecewise-linear programming to the dual piecewise-linear simplex algorithm. This algorithm has advantages over indirect methods which solve equivalent linear programs augmented by additional variables and/or constraints. Computational experience is presented which demonstrates the efficiency these advantages contribute.  相似文献

A method is presented for solving the finite nonlinear min-max problem. Quasi-Newton methods are used to approximately solve a sequence of differentiable subproblems where, for each subproblem, the cost function to minimize is a global regularization underestimating the finite maximum function. Every cluster point of the sequence generated is shown to be a stationary point of the min-max problem and therefore, in the convex case, to be a solution of the problem. Moreover, numerical results are given for a large set of test problems which show that the method is efficient in practice.  相似文献

We establish conditions under which a sequence of finite horizon convex programs monotonically increases in value to the value of the infinite program; a subsequence of optimal solutions converges to the optimal solution of the infinite problem. If the conditions we impose fail, then (roughtly) the optimal value of the infinite horizon problem is an improper convex function. Under more restrictive conditions we establish the necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality. This constructive procedure gives us a way to solve the infinite (long range) problem by solving a finite (short range) problem. It appears to work well in practice.  相似文献

We show that the exact worst-case performance of fixed-step first-order methods for unconstrained optimization of smooth (possibly strongly) convex functions can be obtained by solving convex programs. Finding the worst-case performance of a black-box first-order method is formulated as an optimization problem over a set of smooth (strongly) convex functions and initial conditions. We develop closed-form necessary and sufficient conditions for smooth (strongly) convex interpolation, which provide a finite representation for those functions. This allows us to reformulate the worst-case performance estimation problem as an equivalent finite dimension-independent semidefinite optimization problem, whose exact solution can be recovered up to numerical precision. Optimal solutions to this performance estimation problem provide both worst-case performance bounds and explicit functions matching them, as our smooth (strongly) convex interpolation procedure is constructive. Our works build on those of Drori and Teboulle (Math Program 145(1–2):451–482, 2014) who introduced and solved relaxations of the performance estimation problem for smooth convex functions. We apply our approach to different fixed-step first-order methods with several performance criteria, including objective function accuracy and gradient norm. We conjecture several numerically supported worst-case bounds on the performance of the fixed-step gradient, fast gradient and optimized gradient methods, both in the smooth convex and the smooth strongly convex cases, and deduce tight estimates of the optimal step size for the gradient method.  相似文献
