A new monotonic scheme for the approximation of steady scalar transport is formulated and implemented within a collocated finite-volume/pressure-correction algorithm for general turbulent flows in complex geometries. The scheme is essentially a monotonic implementation of the quadratic QUICK interpolation and uses a continuous and compact limiter to secure monotonicity. The principal purpose is to allow an accurate and fully bounded, hence stable, approximation of turbulence convection in the context of two-equation eddy viscosity and Reynolds stress transport modelling of two- and three-dimensional flows, both subsonic and transonic. Among other benefits, this capability permits an assessment to be made of the adequacy of approximating turbulence convection with first-order upwind schemes in conjunction with higher-order formulations for mean-flow properties—a widespread practice. The performance characteristics of the bounded scheme are illustrated by reference to computations for scalar transport, for a transonic flow in a Laval nozzle, for one separated laminar flow and for two separated turbulent flows computed with a non-linear RNG model and full Reynolds stress closure.  相似文献

We consider the direct problem in the theory of the axisymmetric Laval nozzle (including sonic transition) for the steady flow of an inviscid and nonheat-conducting gas of finite electrical conductivity. The problem is solved by numerical integration of the equations of unsteady gas flow using an explicit difference scheme that was proposed by Godunov [1,2], and was used to calculate steady and unsteady flows of a nonconducting gas in nozzles by Ivanov and Kraiko [3]. The subsonic and the supersonic flows of a conducting gas in an axisymmetric channel when there is no external electric field, the magnetic field is meridional, and the magnetic Reynolds numbers are small have previously been completely investigated. Thus, Kheins, Ioller and Élers [4] investigated experimentally and theoretically the flow of a conducting gas in a cylindrical pipe when there is interaction between the flow and the magnetic field of a loop current that is coaxial with the pipe. Two different approaches were used in the theoretical analysis in [4]: linearization with respect to the parameter S of the magnetogasdynamic interaction and numerical calculation by the method of characteristics. The first approach was used for weakly perturbed subsonic and supersonic flows and the solutions obtained in analytic form hold only for small S. This is the approach used by Bam-Zelikovich [5] to investigate subsonic and supersonic jet flows through a current loop. The numerical calculations of supersonic flows in a cylindrical pipe in [4] were restricted to comparatively small values of S since, as S increases, shock waves and subsonic waves appear in the flow. Katskova and Chushkin [6] used the method of characteristics to calculate the flow of the type in the supersonic part of an axisymmetric nozzle with a point of inflection. The flow at the entrance to the section of the nozzle under consideration was supersonic and uniform, while the magnetic field was assumed to be constant and parallel to the axis of symmetry. The plane case was also studied in [6]. The solution of the direct problem is the subject of a paper by Brushlinskii, Gerlakh, and Morozov [7], who considered the flow of an electrically conducting gas between two coaxial electrodes of given shape. There was no applied magnetic field, and the induced magnetic field was in the direction perpendicular to the meridional plane. The problem was solved numerically in [7] using a standard process. However, the boundary conditions adopted, which were chosen largely to simplify the calculations, and the accuracy achieved only allowed the authors [7] to make reliable judgments about the qualitative features of the flow. Recently, in addition to [7], several papers have been published [8–10] in which the authors used a similar approach to solve the direct problem in the theory of the Laval nozzle (in the case of a nonconducting gas).Translated from Izvestiya Akademiya Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza., No. 5, pp. 14–20, September–October, 1971.In conclusion the author wishes to thank M. Ya. Ivanov, who kindly made available his program for calculating the flow of a conducting gas, and also A. B. Vatazhin and A. N. Kraiko for useful advice.  相似文献

A study is made of the features of supersonic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows due to the vanishing of the electrical conductivity of the gas as a result of its cooling. The study is based on the example of the exhausting from an expanding nozzle of gas into which a magnetic field (Rem 1) perpendicular to the plane of the flow is initially frozen. It is demonstrated analytically on the basis of a qualitative model [1] and by numerical experiment that besides the steady flow there is also a periodic regime in which a layer of heated gas of electric arc type periodically separates from the conducting region in the upper part of the nozzle. A gas-dynamic flow zone with homogeneous magnetic field different from that at the exit from the nozzle forms between this layer and the conducting gas in the initial section. After the layer has left the nozzle, the process is repeated. It is established that the occurrence of such layers is due to the development of overheating instability in the regions with low electrical conductivity, in which the temperature is approximately constant due to the competition of the processes of Joule heating and cooling as a result of expansion. The periodic regimes occur for magnetic fields at the exit from the nozzle both greater and smaller than the initial field when the above-mentioned Isothermal zones exist in the steady flow. The formation of periodic regimes in steady MHD flows in a Laval nozzle when the conductivity of the gas grows from a small quantity at the entrance due to Joule heating has been observed in numerical experiments [2, 3]. It appears that the oscillations which occur here are due to the boundary condition. The occurrence of narrow highly-conductive layers of plasma due to an initial perturbation of the temperature in the nonconducting gas has previously been observed in numerical studies of one-dimensional flows in a pulsed accelerator [4–6].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 138–149, July–August, 1985.  相似文献

The possibility of critical gas flow from Laval nozzles in overexpanded regimes behind a bridge shock is investigated theoretically with and without allowance for viscous mixing at the edge of the jet. The influence of the mixing effect and flow separation from the nozzle walls on the critical flow conditions is analyzed. It is shown experimentally that these regimes coincide closely with the displacement of the normal shock to the nozzle exit and cessation of the emission by the jet of a discrete tone. Mariupol. Simplified two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations of the hyperbolic type are derived for viscous mixed (with transition through the sonic velocity) internal and external flows as a result of a special splitting of the pressure gradient in the predominant flow direction into hyperbolic and elliptic components. The application of these equations is illustrated with reference to the calculation of Laval nozzle flows and the problem of supersonic flow past blunt bodies. The hyperbolic approximation obtained adequately describes the interaction between the stream and surfaces for internal and external flows and can be used over a wide Mach number range at moderate and high Reynolds numbers. Examples of the calculation of viscous mixed flows in a Laval nozzle with large longitudinal throat curvature and in a shock layer in the neighborhood of a sphere and a large-aspect-ratio hemisphere-cylinder are given. The problem of determining the drag coefficient of cold and hot spheres is solved in a new formulation for supersonic air flow over a wide range of Reynolds numbers. In the case of low and moderate Reynolds numbers a drag reduction effect is detected when the surface of the sphere is cooled.  相似文献

A study is made of a method of numerical solution of the system of ordinary differential equations describing the flow of a two-phase medium in a Laval nozzle in the one-dimensional approximation. The paper is concerned with the direct problem, in which the law of variation of the area of the transverse section of the nozzle and functional relationships between the entrance parameters are given and the unknown parameters of the two-phase flow are found along the length of the nozzle.  相似文献

The determination of the extremal nozzle contour for gas flow without foreign particles has been carried out in several studies [1–6], based on the calculation of the flow field using the method of characteristics. In [7, 8] the equations are derived for the characteristics and the relations along the streamlines which are required for calculating two-dimensional gas flow with foreign particles. The variational problem for two-phase flow in the two-dimensional formulation may be solved by the method of Guderley and Armitage [9] with the use of equations given in [7] or [8]; however this method is very tedious, even with the use of high-speed computers. In [10, 11] studies are made of two-phase one-dimensional flows by expanding the unknown functions in series in a small parameter, defined by the particle dimensions. In [12] a solution is given for the variational problem (in the one-dimensional formulation) of designing the contour of a nozzle with maximal impulse. However that study does not take account of the static term appearing in the impulse and the solution is obtained in relative cumbersome form. Moreover, the question of account for the losses due to nonparallelism and nonuniformity of the discharge was not considered. The present paper considers in the one-dimensional formulation the flow of a two-phase medium in a Laval nozzle with small particle lags (in velocity and temperature). The variational problem of determining the maximal nozzle impulse is formulated along the nozzle contour for fixed geometric expansion ratio. The impulse losses due to nonparallelism of the discharge are simulated by a function which depends on the ordinates which are variable along the contour and on the slope of the tangent to the contour. The author wishes to thank Yu. Experimental determinations were made of the width of the mixing layer and the level of turbulent pulsations in the initial section of a subsonic circular immersed jet for different parameters of the boundary layer on the nozzle walls and in the presence of acoustic excitation. It was established that the rate of expansion of the turbulent mixing layer depends on the flow regime in the boundary layer. For laminar initial boundary layer, external acoustic excitation can lead to a decrease in the expansion velocity of the mixing layer and of the intensity of the velocity pulsations on the jet axis within the initial section. If the frequency and amplitude of acoustic excitation at which a decrease in the rate of expansion of the mixing layer and of the pulsation intensity was observed remained unchanged, the influence of the acoustics disappeared when the boundary layer became turbulent. The acoustic vibrations influenced the subsonic jets by generating vortex perturbations when they interact with the edge of the nozzle.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 36–42, November–December, 1982.We are grateful to K. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to analyse a mixture of wave and diffusive behaviours governing flow in a saturated porous medium inside an elastic pipe that is suddenly subjected to a large hydraulic gradient at its entrance. At early times and near the entrance, the head is a diffusing wave that can be reduced to the linear and non-linear telegrapher equations for the laminar and partially developed turbulent flows, respectively. At later times, laminar flows are diffusive and partially developed turbulent flows follow a ‘fast diffusion’ behaviour. In the case of fully developed turbulence, flows at later times follow a fast diffusion form which is complicated by advection at extremely high gradients. A matched asymptotic expansion approach is used to match flows at early times and near the entrance, with complementary forms that are away from the entrance and which occur at later times.  相似文献

A study is made of the instability of a film of viscous liquid adjacent to a gas flow. Despite a number of investigations, there is no unified theory of this problem capable of explaining the experimental results of different authors. The present paper gives a solution of the problem that is valid for a large class of flows of liquid films in the case of laminar and turbulent flow of the gas.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 2, pp. 28–36, March–April, 1979.  相似文献

Within the framework of boundary-layer theory, simple formulas are presented for finding the viscous loss from the gas parameters in the nozzle outlet cross-section. The analysis is performed for ordinary Laval nozzles and spike nozzles. It is found that for nozzles with large expansion ratios the viscous loss is almost independent of the outlet cross-section parameters and is determined only by the parameter values on the nozzle contour. The effect of the longitudinal nozzle curvature on this loss is investigated. It is shown that the viscous losses calculated from the nozzle outlet parameters and by integrating along the nozzle contour with account for the longitudinal curvature fully coincide.  相似文献

Problems of the deceleration of a supersonic conducting flow by a magnetic field are investigated. A conducting gas flow in a circular tube is considered in the presence of an axisymmetric magnetic field induced by a unit current loop or solenoid of finite length. The analysis is carried out on the basis of both the Euler equations (inviscid gas) and the complete system of Navier-Stokes equations for laminar viscous gas flow and turbulent flow using a one-parameter turbulence model. The numerical simulation is based on an implicit relaxation finite-difference scheme which is a modification of the Godunov method. The total pressure losses are determined for various values of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) interaction, the initial Mach number, and different magnetic field geometries and it is shown that the irreversible losses are significant in MHD supersonic flow deceleration.  相似文献

The numerical solution of the problem of the motion of a swirling flow of an ideal gas in a Laval nozzle in axisymmetric formulation is obtained by the method of stabilization. As a result, a number of effects appear that are essentially not one-dimensional, in particular, the drawing-in of the sonic line into the nozzle, an effect that leads to a decrease in the nozzle's expansion coefficient. The dependence of this coefficient on the intensity of the swirling is obtained. A number of problems connected with the control of the expansion of a gas through a Laval nozzle and with variation of the thrust of a nozzle can be solved successfully in cases where a rotary motion is imparted to the flow of gas exhausted from the nozzle. Investigation of such a swirling flow in [1, 2] and a number of other papers are based on a one-dimensional model of gas flow, which makes it possible in principle to obtain integrated characteristics of the flow.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 72–76, September–October, 1971.  相似文献

The present paper reports an experimental investigation on atomizing liquid flows produced by simplified cavity nozzles. The Weber number being kept low, the sprays produced by these injectors depend on the liquid flow characteristics only, and more precisely, on the non-axial kinetic energy and of the turbulent kinetic energy at the nozzle exit. The investigation reported here concentrates on the characterization of liquid flows during atomization by measuring the spatial variation of the local interface length and of the local interface fractal dimension. Both parameters were found representative of the physics of atomization process: they depend on the characteristics of the flow issuing from the nozzle and they are related to the subsequent drop size distribution. The local interface length is representative of the amount of liquid–gas interface surface area, and is a function of both the non-axial and the turbulent kinetic energies at the nozzle exit. The fractal dimension is representative of the tortuosity of the liquid–gas interface and, as expected, is mainly related to the turbulent kinetic energy at the nozzle exit. As far as the drop size distribution is concerned, it is found that the local interface length at the instant of break-up determines a representative drop diameter of some kind, whereas the fractal dimension at the same instant controls the dispersion of the distribution.  相似文献

An exact solution for laminar two-phase eccentric core-annular flows (CAF) in inclined pipes is derived. This solution complements the exact solutions that were obtained for inclined stratified flows with curved interfaces as to provide a set of solutions for two-phase laminar separated flows. A unified set of three dimensionless parameters for separated flows is defined and used to explore the effects of the system parameters and separated flow configurations on the velocity profiles and the resulting holdup, pressure gradient and pumping power requirement in horizontal and inclined concurrent and countercurrent flows. It is shown that similarly to stratified flows, also in CAF multiple solutions for the holdup and the associated flow characteristics can be obtained in inclined flows. The boundaries of the multiple solution regions are mapped and the effect of the core eccentricity and system parameters boundaries are demonstrated and discussed. The benefits of adding a lubricating phase for transportation of a viscous fluid in inclined CAFs is investigated. An adverse effect of the upward pipe inclination on the power savings in all of the separate flow configurations is demonstrated. Independently of the density of the lubricant, namely, whether it is lighter or heavier than the viscous fluid, the effect of hydrostatic pressure gradient always hinders the possibility of reducing the pumping requirement for transporting the viscous phase. However, surprisingly, a heavier lubricant is preferable form the view point of power saving. The implications of turbulent flow of the lubricating phase and the susceptibility to Ledinegg instability on the potential power savings are also considered and discussed. The application of the model for the analysis of experimental data of the holdup and pressure drop obtained in horizontal and inclined CAF is also demonstrated.  相似文献

Within the framework of a two-liquid (two-velocity and two-temperature) model of a continuous medium, the article considers the flow of a mixture of a gas and foreign particles in the subsonic, transonic, and supersonic parts of a Laval nozzle. In the case of a thin layer of pure gas near the wall, the problem is solved in two stages. First, the method of establishment is used to calculate the core of the flow, where the gas with the particles is flowing; under these circumstances, the parameters in the layer of pure gas are determined approximately; then simplified equations (of the type of the equations of the boundary layer) are used to find the distribution of the parameters in the zone of pure gas, and the flow in the core of the stream is refined. Examples of the calculation are given. Use of the method developed permitted establishing some of the special characteristics of the flow of a mixture of gas with particles in a Laval nozzle in the case of Stokes flow around the foreign particles.  相似文献

A study is made of the interaction of a circular supersonic jet with a turbulent layer of the near-wake kind formed behind a circular step on the end part of a nozzle with abrupt expansion. The flow in the viscous layer is calculated by the integral method, and in the inviscid flow by a through-computation method using a monotonic implicit difference scheme of first order of accuracy. The interaction between the inviscid and turbulent flows is determined by the displacement thickness of the viscous layer. The initial conditions for the flow in the layer are determined from the integral conditions of its matching to the isobaric mixing flow in the base region behind the step. The computed interaction flows are determined as a function of the length of the end part and the counter pressure simultaneously or separately by the boundary condition that the pressure at the end of the end part be equal to the pressure of the external medium and by a singular solution of the equations passing through a saddle singular point — the throat of the wake. In a conical nozzle with profiled attachments of different lengths, calculations were made of separation flows with open and closed base regions and with allowance for secondary separation. The obtained solutions are multivalued in a certain range of lengths of the end part and values of the counter pressure. The solutions realized in reality are selected by analyzing the regimes of operation of the nozzles, and the calculated regions of hysteresis and associated low-frequency nonstationary separation flows are determined.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 120–128, July–August, 1979.We are grateful to M. The behavior of a non-buoyant circular water jet discharged from a contraction nozzle was experimentally investigated. In this experiment, the Reynolds number of the jet, based on the mean velocity results obtained by particle image velocimetry (PIV), ranged from 177 to 5,142. From the experimental results, we found that the cross-sectional profile of the axial velocity for a laminar flow near the nozzle did not show a top-hat distribution, whereas the profiles with Reynolds number higher than 437 were almost top-hat. The length of the zone of flow establishment (ZFE) was found to decrease with increasing Reynolds number. The measured centerline velocity decayed more rapidly and, consequently, approached the theoretical equation earlier near the nozzle as the Reynolds number increased. The decay constant for the centerline velocity of the turbulent cases was relatively lower than that discovered in theory. It is assumed that this probably resulted from the use of the contraction nozzle. Verifying the similarity of the lateral velocity profiles demonstrated that the Gaussian curve was properly approximated only for the turbulent jets and not for the laminar or transitional flows. The jet half width seldom grew for the laminar or transitional flows, whereas it grew with increasing axial distance for the turbulent flows. The spreading rates for the turbulent flows gradually decreased with increasing Reynolds number. The normalized turbulence intensity along the jet centerline increased more rapidly with the axial distance as the Reynolds number increased, and tended to the constant values proposed by previous investigators. The Reynolds shear stress levels were also found to increase as the Reynolds number increased for the turbulent jets.  相似文献

The flow of a mixture of gas and condensed particles in an axisymmetric Laval nozzle is considered. The motion of the particles is calculated in a specified field of gas flow, with due allowance for their turbulent diffusion. The results of calculations indicating the necessity of allowing for this phenomenon when considering the motion of particles toward the wall of a profiled nozzle are presented.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, No. 2, pp. 161–165, March–April, 1973.  相似文献
