High-spin states in the 97Tc nucleus have been studied by in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy with the reaction 82Se(19F,4nγ) at 68 MeV incident energy. Excited states have been observed up to about 8 MeV excitation and spin 43/2. The observed
level scheme is compared with results of shell model calculations.

The method of Abelian decomposition proposed by Faddeev and Niemi is used to derive the low-energy effective lagrangian of
G2 gauge theory. The G2 algebra is studied. The commutation relations among the generators of the G2 algebra are established, based on the framework of its regular maximal subalgebra, an SU(3) algebra.

Careful review of all the evidence makes it clear that at least three states are important at 12.4-MeV excitation in 20Ne (four, if the broad (2+) at 12.5 MeV is included). The three states are 3 - , 0 + , and 1 + (0+). The latter, which is quite strong in 19F (3He, d) singles, is probably the state observed in coincidence with 6.13-MeV γ-rays in 19F(3He, dγ).

The electromagnetic form factor of the kaon meson is calculated in the light-cone formalism of the relativistic constituent
quark model. The calculated K+ form factor is consistent with almost all of the available experimental data at low-energy scale, while other properties
of the kaon could also be interrelated in this representation with reasonable parameters. Predictions of the form factors
for the charged and neutral kaons at a higher-energy scale are also given, and we find the non-zero K0 form factor at Q
2≠ 0 due to the mass difference between the strange and down quarks inside K0.

In Rydberg atoms subject to static and harmonic collinear electric fields, intrashell transition can be induced by the first
order perturbation from a small perpendicular electric or magnetic field, or by effects of the second order in the major fields.
Both mechanisms lead to resonances that are suppressed under certain conditions, and high-frequency interference oscillations
in case of non-adiabatic field switching. Recent measurements of microwave ionization signals show very rich and fascinating
structures similar to the ones predicted for intrashell mixing. We show that the observed ionization structures may be explained
by diabatic electric-field ionization and the consistent use of perturbation theory for intrashell mixing. In particular,
the dominant oscillation frequency is successfully interpreted in terms of interference between first and second order transition
amplitudes. New predictions are provided. The present approach gives a comprehensive picture of intrashell transitions, which
may be tested in future experiments designed to observe such transitions directly.

We discuss the applicability of pQCD to the elastic scattering of electrons on protons and deuterons. We analyze the Q2-dependence of the reduced deuteron form factor, taking into account the recent data on the electric proton form factor and
we find that the value of the QCD-scale parameter Λ differs essentially from the value Λ = 0.1 GeV, previously found using
the dipole parametrization of the electromagnetic nucleon form factors GE and GM. Moreover, the predicted scaling behavior of the reduced deuteron form factor cannot be recovered in the Dirac and Pauli
representations for the nucleon electromagnetic form factors.

In treating the relativistic 3-quark problem, a dressed-quark propagator parameterization is used which is compatible with
recent lattice data and pion observables. Furthermore 2-quark correlations are modeled as a series of quark loops in the scalar
and axialvector channel. The resulting reduced Faddeev equations are solved for nucleon and delta. Nucleon electromagnetic
form factors are calculated in a fully covariant and gauge-invariant scheme. Whereas the proton electric form factor G
E and the nucleon magnetic moments are described correctly, the neutron electric form factor and the ratio G
E/G
M for the proton appear to be quenched. The influence of vector mesons on the form factors is investigated which amounts to
a 25% modification of the electromagnetic proton radii within this framework.

The low-energy nuclear structure and decay properties of the neutron-deficient isotopes 195At and 191Bi have been studied. 195At was produced in the reaction 142Nd(56Fe,p2n)195At and 191Bi as the daughter activity of 195At. The activities were implanted in a position-sensitive silicon detector after being separated from the primary beam by
a gas-filled recoil separator. The 1/2+ intruder state was determined to be the ground state in 195At with an alpha-decay energy of E
α = 6953(3) keV and a half-life T
1/2 = 328(20) ms. Another state with an alpha-decay energy E
α = 7075(4) keV and a half-life T
1/2 = 147(5) ms was found to decay to a 148.7(5) keV excited state in 191Bi for which a spin and parity of 7/2- were deduced. Consequently, the same 7/2- character was assigned to the initial state at 32(7) keV in 195At on the basis of unhindered alpha-decay. The 9/2- state, being the ground state in heavier odd-mass astatine isotopes, was not observed.

In this article we intend to discuss the evolution of polarized and unpolarized structure functions in the (x,Q2) plane. We analyze the proton data on the spin dependence asymmetry A1(x,Q2), by making the dynamical assumption that at low resolution energies, the hadrons consist only of valence quarks and the
scaling violation of F2(x,Q2) at low x comes only from the gluons density. While the sea quark and the gluon distributions are calculated using the inverse
Mellin technique and the various moments of the valence quarks, the valence quark distribution itself is obtained from the
relativistic quark-exchange model. A comparison is made with the corresponding available experimental data. Finally in agreement
with the data, it is demonstrated that there is no significant Q2-dependence of asymmetry A1(x,Q2) for x ranging 0.014 ≤ x ≤ 0.25.

Theoretical predictions for the polarized nucleon structure function g
1
(x, Q
2
) at low Q2 are obtained in the framework of the generalized vector meson dominance model. Contributions from both light and heavy vector
mesons are evaluated. In the photoproduction limit the first moment of g1 is related to the static properties of the nucleon via the Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov-Hosoda-Yamamoto sum rule. This property
is employed to fix the magnitude of the light vector meson contribution to g1, using the recent measurements in the region of baryonic resonances. The results are compared to the data on g
1
(x, Q
2
). Finally, the DHGHY moment function I(Q
2
) is calculated, and our theoretical predictions are confronted with the recent preliminary data obtained at the Jefferson
Laboratory.

Charmonium sum rules are analyzed with the primary goal to obtain the restrictions on the value of the dimension 4 gluon
condensate. The moments M
n
(Q
2
) of the polarization operator of the vector charm currents are calculated and compared with the experimental data. The three-loop
() perturbative corrections, the contribution of the gluon condensate with corrections and the contribution of the dimension 6 operator G3 are accounted. It is shown that the sum rules for the moments do not work at Q
2
= 0, where the perturbation series diverges and the G3 contribution is large. The domain in the (n, Q
2
) plane where the sum rules are legitimate is found. A strong correlation of the values of gluon condensate and charm quark mass is determined. The absolute limits are found to be for the gluon condensate and for the charm quark mass in the scheme.

Charge distribution studies for heavy-mass fission products were carried out in the fast-neutron-induced fission of 232Th, 238U, 240Pu and 244Cm using radiochemical and gamma-ray spectrometric techniques. The width parameter( σZ/σA), the most probable charge/mass ( Z
P/A
P), the charge polarization (ΔZ) and the slope of charge polarization [ δ(ΔZ)/δA
′] as a function of the fragment mass (A
′) were deduced. The average charge dispersion parameter ( 〈σZ〉) and proton odd-even effect ( δp) were also obtained for these fissioning systems. The 〈σZ〉 and δp values in the fissioning systems 241Pu * and 245Cm * were determined for the first time. The δ(ΔZ)/δA
′ value is also determined for the first time in the fissioning systems 239U * , 241Pu * and 245Cm * . These data along with the literature data for even-Z fissioning systems such as 230Th * , 232Th * , 233U * , 234U * , 236U * , 238U * , 239Pu * , 240Pu*, 242Pu * , 246Cm * , 250Cf * and 252Cf(SF) are discussed in terms of nuclear structure effect and dynamics of descent from the saddle to the scission point. The
role of the excitation energy in low-energy fission is also discussed.

We start from a parity-breaking MCS QED3 model with spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry as a framework for evaluation of the electron-electron interaction
potential and for attainment of numerical values for the e
-
e
-
- bound state. Three expressions ( V
eff
, V
eff
, V
eff
) are obtained according to the polarization state of the scattered electrons. In an energy scale compatible with condensed
matter electronic excitations, these three potentials become degenerated. The resulting potential is implemented in the Schr?dinger
equation and the variational method is applied to carry out the electronic binding energy. The resulting binding energies
in the scale of 10-100 meV and a correlation length in the scale of 10-30 ? are possible indications that the MCS-QED3 model adopted may be suitable to address an eventual case of e

pairing in the presence of parity-symmetry breakdown. The data analyzed here suggest an energy scale of 10-100 meV to fix the breaking of the U
(1)-symmetry.

We present the results of the current analysis of the partial wave IJ
PC = 00+ + based on the available data for meson spectra ( ππ, KˉK,ηη,η,ππππ). In the framework of the K-matrix approach, the analytical amplitude has been reconstructed in the mass region 280 MeV < < 1900 MeV. The following scalar-isoscalar states are seen: comparatively narrow resonances f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500), f
0(1750) and the broad state f0(1200-1600). The positions of the amplitude poles (masses and total widths of the resonances) are determined as well as pole
residues (partial widths to meson channels ππ, KˉK,ηη,η,ππππ). The fitted amplitude gives us the positions of the K-matrix poles (bare states) and the values of bare-state couplings to meson channels thus allowing the quark-antiquark nonet
classification of bare states. On the basis of the obtained partial widths to the channels ππ, KˉK,ηη,η, we estimate the quark/gluonium content of f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500), f
0(1750), f0(1200-1600). For f
0(980), f
0(1300), f
0(1500) and f
0(1750), their partial widths testify the qˉq origin of these mesons though being unable to provide precise evaluation of the possible admixture of the gluonium component
in these resonances. The ratios of the decay coupling constants for the f0(1200-1600) support the idea about the gluonium nature of this broad state.

Differential cross-sections for quasi-free Compton scattering from the proton and neutron bound in the deuteron have been
measured using the Glasgow/Mainz photon tagging spectrometer at the Mainz MAMI accelerator together with the Mainz [48]cm
;SPMOslash; × [64]cm NaI(Tl) photon detector and the G?ttingen SENECA recoil detector. The data cover photon energies ranging from [200]MeV
to [400]MeV at θLAB
γ = 136.2°. Liquid deuterium and hydrogen targets allowed direct comparison of free and quasi-free scattering from the proton. The neutron
detection efficiency of the SENECA detector was measured via the reaction p(γ,π+
n). The “free” proton Compton scattering cross-sections extracted from the bound proton data are in reasonable agreement with
those for the free proton which gives confidence in the method to extract the differential cross-section for free scattering
from quasi-free data. Differential cross-sections on the free neutron have been extracted and the difference of the electromagnetic
polarizabilities of the neutron has been determined to be αn - βn = 9.8±3.6(stat)+2.1
-1.1(syst)±2.2(model) in units of [10-4]fm
3. In combination with the polarizability sum αn + βn = 15.2±0.5 deduced from photoabsorption data, the neutron electric and magnetic polarizabilities, αn = 12.5±1.8(stat)+1.1
-0.6(syst)±1.1(model) and βn = 2.7±1.8(stat)+0.6
-1.1(syst)±1.1(model) are obtained. The backward spin polarizability of the neutron was determined to be γ(n)
π = (58.6±4.0)×10-4

The behaviour of freely suspended smectic-C* ( SmC*) films at the bulk SmC*-cholesteric ( N*) phase transition has been investigated using polarized-reflected-light microscopy. Our experimental observations show that
above the bulk SmC*- N* phase transition the N* order appears in different ways according to the film thickness. In thin films, the conventional layer-by-layer thinning
occurs. In films of intermediate thickness N* inclusions nucleate inside the SmC* film. The distortions of the in-plane orientational order of the SmC* host phase induce elastic interactions between the inclusions and lead to their self-organization in chain-like structures.
Both the dynamic of the chaining and the parameters driving the equilibrium distance between the inclusions in the chain are
investigated. In thick films, N* fingers grow inside the film. The influence of the experimental conditions on the various processes is analysed.
