In this paper, we consider robust generalized estimating equations for the analysis of semiparametric generalized partial linear mixed models (GPLMMs) for longitudinal data. We approximate the non-parametric function in the GPLMM by a regression spline, and make use of bounded scores and leverage-based weights in the estimating equation to achieve robustness against outliers and influential data points, respectively. Under some regularity conditions, the asymptotic properties of the robust estimators are investigated. To avoid the computational problems involving high-dimensional integrals in our estimators, we adopt a robust Monte Carlo Newton-Raphson (RMCNR) algorithm for fitting GPLMMs. Small simulations are carried out to study the behavior of the robust estimates in the presence of outliers, and these estimates are also compared to their corresponding non-robust estimates. The proposed robust method is illustrated in the analysis of two real data sets.  相似文献

We consider the problems of robust estimation and testing for a log-linear model with feedback for the analysis of count time series. We study inference for contaminated data with transient shifts, level shifts and additive outliers. It turns out that the case of additive outliers deserves special attention. We propose a robust method for estimating the regression coefficients in the presence of interventions. The resulting robust estimators are asymptotically normally distributed under some regularity conditions. A robust score type test statistic is also examined. The methodology is applied to real and simulated data.  相似文献

The robust estimation of the autoregressive parameters is formulated in terms of the quadratic programming problem. This article's main contribution is to present an estimator that down weights both types of outliers in time series and improves the forecasting results. New robust estimates are yielded, by combining optimally two weight functions suitable for Innovation and Additive outliers in time series. The technique which is developed here is based on an approach of mathematical programming applications to Ip-approximation. The behavior of the estimators are illustrated numerically, under the additive outlier generating model. Monte Carlo results show that the proposed estimators compared favorably with respect to M-estimators and bounded influence estimators. Based on these results we conclude that one can improve the robust properties of AR(p) estimators using quadratic programming.  相似文献

Recently, we proposed variants as a statistical model for treating ambiguity. If data are extracted from an object with a machine then it might not be able to give a unique safe answer due to ambiguity about the correct interpretation of the object. On the other hand, the machine is often able to produce a finite number of alternative feature sets (of the same object) that contain the desired one. We call these feature sets variants of the object. Data sets that contain variants may be analyzed by means of statistical methods and all chapters of multivariate analysis can be seen in the light of variants. In this communication, we focus on point estimation in the presence of variants and outliers. Besides robust parameter estimation, this task requires also selecting the regular objects and their valid feature sets (regular variants). We determine the mixed MAP-ML estimator for a model with spurious variants and outliers as well as estimators based on the integrated likelihood. We also prove asymptotic results which show that the estimators are nearly consistent. The problem of variant selection turns out to be computationally hard; therefore, we also design algorithms for efficient approximation. We finally demonstrate their efficacy with a simulated data set and a real data set from genetics.  相似文献

A new Gaussian graphical modeling that is robustified against possible outliers is proposed. The likelihood function is weighted according to how the observation is deviated, where the deviation of the observation is measured based on its likelihood. Test statistics associated with the robustified estimators are developed. These include statistics for goodness of fit of a model. An outlying score, similar to but more robust than the Mahalanobis distance, is also proposed. The new scores make it easier to identify outlying observations. A Monte Carlo simulation and an analysis of a real data set show that the proposed method works better than ordinary Gaussian graphical modeling and some other robustified multivariate estimators.  相似文献

Semi-parametric estimation of partially linear single-index models   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
One of the most difficult problems in applications of semi-parametric partially linear single-index models (PLSIM) is the choice of pilot estimators and complexity parameters which may result in radically different estimators. Pilot estimators are often assumed to be root-n consistent, although they are not given in a constructible way. Complexity parameters, such as a smoothing bandwidth are constrained to a certain speed, which is rarely determinable in practical situations. In this paper, efficient, constructible and practicable estimators of PLSIMs are designed with applications to time series. The proposed technique answers two questions from Carroll et al. [Generalized partially linear single-index models, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 92 (1997) 477-489]: no root-n pilot estimator for the single-index part of the model is needed and complexity parameters can be selected at the optimal smoothing rate. The asymptotic distribution is derived and the corresponding algorithm is easily implemented. Examples from real data sets (credit-scoring and environmental statistics) illustrate the technique and the proposed methodology of minimum average variance estimation (MAVE).  相似文献

Robust S-estimation is proposed for multivariate Gaussian mixture models generalizing the work of Hastie and Tibshirani (J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 58 (1996) 155). In the case of Gaussian Mixture models, the unknown location and scale parameters are estimated by the EM algorithm. In the presence of outliers, the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters are affected, resulting in the misclassification of the observations. The robust S-estimators of the unknown parameters replace the non-robust estimators from M-step of the EM algorithm. The results were compared with the standard mixture discriminant analysis approach using the probability of misclassification criterion. This comparison showed a slight reduction in the average probability of misclassification using robust S-estimators as compared to the standard maximum likelihood estimators.  相似文献

Robust discrimination under a hierarchy on the scatter matrices   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Under normality, Flury and Schmid [Quadratic discriminant functions with constraints on the covariances matrices: some asymptotic results, J. Multivariate Anal. 40 (1992) 244-261] investigated the asymptotic properties of the quadratic discrimination procedure under hierarchical models for the scatter matrices, that is: (i) arbitrary scatter matrices, (ii) common principal components, (iii) proportional scatter matrices and (iv) identical matrices. In this paper, we study the properties of robust quadratic discrimination rules based on robust estimates of the involved parameters. Our analysis is based on the partial influence functions of the functionals related to these parameters and allows to derive the asymptotic variances of the estimated coefficients under models (i)-(iv). From them, we conclude that the asymptotic variances verify the same order relations as those obtained by Flury and Schmid [Quadratic discriminant functions with constraints on the covariances matrices: some asymptotic results, J. Multivariate Anal. 40 (1992) 244-261] for the classical estimators. We also perform a Monte Carlo study for different sample sizes and different hierarchies which shows the advantage of using robust procedures over classical ones, when anomalous data are present. It also confirms that better rates of misclassification can be achieved if a more parsimonious model among all the correct ones is used instead of the standard quadratic discrimination.  相似文献

We consider one-way classification model in experimental design when the errors have generalized secant hyperbolic distribution. We obtain efficient and robust estimators for block effects by using the modified maximum likelihood estimation (MML) methodology. A test statistic analogous to the normal-theory F statistic is defined to test block effects. We also define a test statistic for testing linear contrasts. It is shown that test statistics based on MML estimators are efficient and robust. The methodology readily extends to unbalanced designs.  相似文献

We propose a class of robust estimates for multivariate linear models. Based on the approach of MM-estimation (Yohai 1987, [24]), we estimate the regression coefficients and the covariance matrix of the errors simultaneously. These estimates have both a high breakdown point and high asymptotic efficiency under Gaussian errors. We prove consistency and asymptotic normality assuming errors with an elliptical distribution. We describe an iterative algorithm for the numerical calculation of these estimates. The advantages of the proposed estimates over their competitors are demonstrated through both simulated and real data.  相似文献

Cronbach's alpha is a popular method to measure reliability, e.g. in quantifying the reliability of a score to summarize the information of several items in questionnaires. The alpha coefficient is known to be non-robust. We study the behavior of this coefficient in different settings to identify situations where Cronbach's alpha is extremely sensitive to violations of the classical model assumptions. Furthermore, we construct a robust version of Cronbach's alpha which is insensitive to a small proportion of data that belong to a different source. The idea is that the robust Cronbach's alpha reflects the reliability of the bulk of the data. For example, it should not be possible that some small amount of outliers makes a score look reliable if it is not.  相似文献

This paper focuses on robust estimation in the structural errors-in-variables (EV) model. A new class of robust estimators, called weighted orthogonal regression estimators, is introduced. Robust estimators of the parameters of the EV model are simply derived from robust estimators of multivariate location and scatter such as the M-estimators, the S-estimators and the MCD estimator. The influence functions of the proposed estimators are calculated and shown to be bounded. Moreover, we derive the asymptotic distributions of the estimators and illustrate the results on simulated examples and on a real-data set.  相似文献

In this paper we consider robust parameter estimation based on a certain cross entropy and divergence. The robust estimate is defined as the minimizer of the empirically estimated cross entropy. It is shown that the robust estimate can be regarded as a kind of projection from the viewpoint of a Pythagorean relation based on the divergence. This property implies that the bias caused by outliers can become sufficiently small even in the case of heavy contamination. It is seen that the asymptotic variance of the robust estimator is naturally overweighted in proportion to the ratio of contamination. One may surmise that another form of cross entropy can present the same behavior as that discussed above. It can be proved under some conditions that no cross entropy can present the same behavior except for the cross entropy considered here and its monotone transformation.  相似文献

A new estimation procedure for a partial linear additive model with censored responses is proposed. To this aim, ideas of Lewbel and Linton [A. Lewbel, O. Linton, Nonparametric censored and truncated regression, Econometrica 70 (2002) 765-779] on censored model regression are combined with those of Kim et al. [W. Kim, O. Linton, N.W. Hengartner, A computationally efficient estimator for additive nonparametric regression with bootstrap confidence intervals, Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, 8 (1999) 278-297] on marginal integration and those on average derivatives. This allows for dimension reduction, interpretability and — depending on the context — for weights yielding computationally attractive estimates. Asymptotic behavior is provided for all proposed estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the minimum density power divergence estimator for the tail index of heavy tailed distributions in strong mixing processes. It is shown that the estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal under regularity conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the estimator is robust in the presence of outliers.  相似文献

Parameters of Gaussian multivariate models are often estimated using the maximum likelihood approach. In spite of its merits, this methodology is not practical when the sample size is very large, as, for example, in the case of massive georeferenced data sets. In this paper, we study the asymptotic properties of the estimators that minimize three alternatives to the likelihood function, designed to increase the computational efficiency. This is achieved by applying the information sandwich technique to expansions of the pseudo-likelihood functions as quadratic forms of independent normal random variables. Theoretical calculations are given for a first-order autoregressive time series and then extended to a two-dimensional autoregressive process on a lattice. We compare the efficiency of the three estimators to that of the maximum likelihood estimator as well as among themselves, using numerical calculations of the theoretical results and simulations.  相似文献

This article studies M-type estimators for fitting robust generalized additive models in the presence of anomalous data. A new theoretical construct is developed to connect the costly M-type estimation with least-squares type calculations. Its asymptotic properties are studied and used to motivate a computational algorithm. The main idea is to decompose the overall M-type estimation problem into a sequence of well-studied conventional additive model fittings. The resulting algorithm is fast and stable, can be paired with different nonparametric smoothers, and can also be applied to cases with multiple covariates. As another contribution of this article, automatic methods for smoothing parameter selection are proposed. These methods are designed to be resistant to outliers. The empirical performance of the proposed methodology is illustrated via both simulation experiments and real data analysis. Supplementary materials are available online.  相似文献

Under weak conditions of smoothness and mixing, we propose spline-backfitted spline (SBS) estimators of the component functions for a nonlinear additive autoregression model that is both computationally expedient for analyzing high dimensional large time series data, and theoretically reliable as the estimator is oracally efficient and comes with asymptotically simultaneous confidence band. Simulation evidence strongly corroborates with the asymptotic theory.  相似文献

Lin and Zhang (J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 61 (1999) 381) proposed the generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) as a framework for analysis of correlated data, where normally distributed random effects are used to account for correlation in the data, and proposed to use double penalized quasi-likelihood (DPQL) to estimate the nonparametric functions in the model and marginal likelihood to estimate the smoothing parameters and variance components simultaneously. However, the normal distributional assumption for the random effects may not be realistic in many applications, and it is unclear how violation of this assumption affects ensuing inferences for GAMMs. For a particular class of GAMMs, we propose a conditional estimation procedure built on a conditional likelihood for the response given a sufficient statistic for the random effect, treating the random effect as a nuisance parameter, which thus should be robust to its distribution. In extensive simulation studies, we assess performance of this estimator under a range of conditions and use it as a basis for comparison to DPQL to evaluate the impact of violation of the normality assumption. The procedure is illustrated with application to data from the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS).  相似文献
