This paper studies the transient behaviour of tandem queueing system consisting of an arbitrary number r of queues in series with infinite server service facility at each queue. Poisson arrivals with time dependent parameter and exponential service times have been assumed. Infinite server queues realistically describe those queues in which sufficient service capacity exist to prevent virtually any waiting by the customer present. The model is suitable for both phase type service as well services in series. Very elegant solutions have been obtained and it has been shown that if the queue sizes are initially independent and Poisson then they remain independent and Poisson for all t.  相似文献

We consider an open tandem queueing network with population constraint and constant service times. The total number of customers that may be present in the network can not exceed a given value K. Customers arriving at the queueing network when there are more than K customers are forced to wait in an external queue. The arrival process to the queueing network is assumed to be arbitrary. We show that this queueing network can be transformed into a simple network involving only two nodes. Using this simple network, we obtain an upper and lower bound on the mean waiting time. These bounds can be easily calculated. Validations against simulation data establish the tightness of these bounds.  相似文献

In this paper, we exploit the distributional Little’s law to obtain the steady-state distribution of the number of customers in a GI/G/1 make-to-stock queueing system. Non-exponential service times in make-to-stock queue modeling are usually avoided or at best, considered in approximations due to difficulties in developing an exact method. By providing a numerical solution of the GI/G/1 make-to-stock queue, we observed the impact of production time variability on optimal inventory control policies. The numerical results prove the degree of errors in the results if an exponential service time distribution were assumed instead of the actual distribution.  相似文献

We consider a discrete time single server queueing system where the arrival process is governed by a discrete autoregressive process of order p (DAR(p)), and the service time of a customer is one slot. For this queueing system, we give an expression for the mean queue size, which yields upper and lower bounds for the mean queue size. Further we propose two approximation methods for the mean queue size. One is based on the matrix analytic method and the other is based on simulation. We show, by illustrations, that the proposed approximations are very accurate and computationally efficient.  相似文献

This paper derives a conservation law for mean waiting times in a single-server multi-class service queueing system (M X/G/1 type queue) with setup times which may be dependent on multiple customer classes and its arrival batch size by using the work decomposition property in the queueing system with vacations.  相似文献

We analyse an M/G/1 queueing model with gated random order of service. In this service discipline there are a waiting room, in which arriving customers are collected, and a service queue. Each time the service queue becomes empty, all customers in the waiting room are put instantaneously and in random order into the service queue. The service times of customers are generally distributed with finite mean. We derive various bivariate steady-state probabilities and the bivariate Laplace–Stieltjes transform (LST) of the joint distribution of the sojourn times in the waiting room and the service queue. The derivation follows the line of reasoning of Avi-Itzhak and Halfin [4]. As a by-product, we obtain the joint sojourn times LST for several other gated service disciplines.  相似文献

We are interested in queues in which customers of different classes arrive to a service facility, and where performance targets are specified for each class. The manager of such a queue has the task of implementing a queueing discipline that results in the performance targets for all classes being met simultaneously. For the case where the performance targets are specified in terms of ratios of mean waiting times, as long ago as the 1960s, Kleinrock suggested a queueing discipline to ensure that the targets are achieved. He proposed that customers accumulate priority as a linear function of their time in the queue: the higher the urgency of the customer’s class, the greater the rate at which that customer accumulates priority. When the server becomes free, the customer (if any) with the highest accumulated priority at that time point is the one that is selected for service. Kleinrock called such a queue a time-dependent priority queue, but we shall refer to it as the accumulating priority queue. Recognising that the performance of many queues, particularly in the healthcare and human services sectors, is specified in terms of tails of waiting time distributions for customers of different classes, we revisit the accumulating priority queue to derive its waiting time distributions, rather than just the mean waiting times. We believe that some elements of our analysis, particularly the process that we call the maximum priority process, are of mathematical interest in their own right.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. A regularly preemptive model D,MAP/D 1,D 2/1 is studied. Priority customers have constant inter-arrival times and constant service times. On the other hand, ordinary customers' arrivals follow a Markovian Arrival Process (MAP) with constant service times. Although this model can be formulated by using the piecewise Markov process, there remain some difficult problems on numerical calculations. In order to solve these problems, a novel approximation model MAP/MR/1 with Markov renewal services is proposed. These two queueing processes become different due to the existence of idle periods. Thus, a MAP/MR/1 queue with a general boundary condition is introduced. It is a model with the exceptional first service in each busy period. In particular, two special models are studied: one is a warm-up queue and the other is a cool-down queue. It can be proved that the waiting time of ordinary customers for the regular preemption model is stochastically smaller than the waiting time of the former model. On the other hand, it is stochastically larger than the waiting time of the latter model.  相似文献

We study a tandem queueing system with K servers and no waiting space in between. A customer needs service from one server but can leave the system only if all down-stream servers are unoccupied. Such a system is often observed in toll collection during rush hours in transportation networks, and we call it a tollbooth tandem queue. We apply matrix-analytic methods to study this queueing system, and obtain explicit results for various performance measures. Using these results, we can efficiently compute the mean and variance of the queue lengths, waiting time, sojourn time, and departure delays. Numerical examples are presented to gain insights into the performance and design of the tollbooth tandem queue. In particular, it reveals that the intuitive result of arranging servers in decreasing order of service speed (i.e., arrange faster servers at downstream stations) is not always optimal for minimizing the mean queue length or mean waiting time.  相似文献

In queueing theory, most models are based on time-homogeneous arrival processes and service time distributions. However, in communication networks arrival rates and/or the service capacity usually vary periodically in time. In order to reflect this property accurately, one needs to examine periodic rather than homogeneous queues. In the present paper, the periodic BMAP/PH/c queue is analyzed. This queue has a periodic BMAP arrival process, which is defined in this paper, and phase-type service time distributions. As a Markovian queue, it can be analysed like an (inhomogeneous) Markov jump process. The transient distribution is derived by solving the Kolmogorov forward equations. Furthermore, a stability condition in terms of arrival and service rates is proven and for the case of stability, the asymptotic distribution is given explicitly. This turns out to be a periodic family of probability distributions. It is sketched how to analyze the periodic BMAP/M t /c queue with periodically varying service rates by the same method.  相似文献

In this paper martingales methods are applied for analyzing limit non-stationary behavior of the queue length processes in closed Jackson queueing networks with a single class consisting of a large number of customers, a single infinite server queue, and a fixed number of single server queues with large state independent service rates. It is assumed that one of the single server nodes forms a bottleneck. For the non-bottleneck nodes we show that the queue length distribution at timet converges in generalized sense to the stationary distribution of the M/M/1 queue whose parameters explicitly depend ont. For the bottleneck node a diffusion approximation with reflection is proved in the moderate usage regime while fluid and Gaussian diffusion approximations are established for the heavy usage regime.  相似文献

We study a PH/G/1 queue in which the arrival process and the service times depend on the state of an underlying Markov chain J(t) on a countable state spaceE. We derive the busy period process, waiting time and idle time of this queueing system. We also study the Markov modulated EK/G/1 queueing system as a special case.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a detailed analysis of a cyclic-service queueing system consisting of two parallel queues, and a single server. The server serves the two queues with a Bernoulli service schedule described as follows. At the beginning of each visit to a queue, the server always serves a customer. At each epoch of service completion in the ith queue at which the queue is not empty, the server makes a random decision: with probability pi, it serves the next customer; with probability 1-pi, it switches to the other queue. The server takes switching times in its transition from one queue to the other. We derive the generating functions of the joint stationary queue-length distribution at service completion instants, by using the approach of the boundary value problem for complex variables. We also determine the Laplace-Stieltjes transforms of waiting time distributions for both queues, and obtain their mean waiting times. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Methods are developed for approximately characterizing the departure process of each customer class from a multi-class single-server queue with unlimited waiting space and the first-in-first-out service discipline. The model is (GT i /GI i )/1 with a non-Poisson renewal arrival process and a non-exponential service-time distribution for each class. The methods provide a basis for improving parametric-decomposition approximations for analyzing non-Markov open queueing networks with multiple classes. For example, parametric-decomposition approximations are used in the Queueing Network Analyzer (QNA). The specific approximations here extend ones developed by Bitran and Tirupati [5]. For example, the effect of class-dependent service times is considered here. With all procedures proposed here, the approximate variability parameter of the departure process of each class is a linear function of the variability parameters of the arrival processes of all the classes served at that queue, thus ensuring that the final arrival variability parameters in a general open network can be calculated by solving a system of linear equations.  相似文献

This paper considers a limited queue space, single channel, first come first served heterogeneous queueing system. There are two operating states sayE and F. For either state, the time in transition from one state to the other, follows an exponential distribution. In both the states E and F, the arrivals are Poissonian with different parameters and the service times have different exponential distributions. In either state, an additional number M of units join the system whenever the number already there declines to one unit. Thus the channel is busy at all times.  相似文献

In this note we consider two queueing systems: a symmetric polling system with gated service at allN queues and with switchover times, and a single-server single-queue model with one arrival stream of ordinary customers andN additional permanently present customers. It is assumed that the combined arrival process at the queues of the polling system coincides with the arrival process of the ordinary customers in the single-queue model, and that the service time and switchover time distributions of the polling model coincide with the service time distributions of the ordinary and permanent customers, respectively, in the single-queue model. A complete equivalence between both models is accomplished by the following queue insertion of arriving customers. In the single-queue model, an arriving ordinary customer occupies with probabilityp i a position at the end of the queue section behind theith permanent customer,i = l, ...,N. In the cyclic polling model, an arriving customer with probabilityp i joins the end of theith queue to be visited by the server, measured from its present position. For the single-queue model we prove that, if two queue insertion distributions {p i, i = l, ...,N} and {q i, i = l, ...,N} are stochastically ordered, then also the workload and queue length distributions in the corresponding two single-queue versions are stochastically ordered. This immediately leads to equivalent stochastic orderings in polling models. Finally, the single-queue model with Poisson arrivals andp 1 = 1 is studied in detail.Part of the research of the first author has been supported by the Esprit BRA project QMIPS.  相似文献

We develop a strongly efficient rare-event simulation algorithm for computing the tail of the steady-state waiting time in a single server queue with regularly varying service times. Our algorithm is based on a state-dependent importance sampling strategy that is constructed so as to be straightforward to implement. The construction of the algorithm and its asymptotic optimality rely on a Lyapunov-type inequality that is used to bound the second moment of the estimator. The solution to the Lyapunov inequality is constructed using fluid heuristics. Our approach takes advantage of the regenerative ratio formula for the steady-state distribution—and does not use the first passage time representation that is particular to the delay in the G/G/1 queue. Hence, the strategy has the potential to be applied in more general queueing models.   相似文献

A single-server queueing system with constant Poisson input is considered and the partial elimination of the station's idle fraction is envisaged by intermittent close-down and set-up. The rule pertaining to the dismantling and re-establishing of the service station—the management doctrine—is based on the instantaneous size of the queue, but these processes are assumed to consume time. Operating characteristics of such systems—in particular, average queue length and queueing time—are evaluated. A cost structure is superimposed on the system and optimization procedures are outlined. The close relationship with (a) priority queueing and (b) storage models is pointed out.  相似文献
