A series of star-shaped octupolar triazatruxenes (TATs, 1-6) with intramolecular "push-pull" structure were synthesized and their photophysical properties have been systematically investigated. These chromophores showed obvious solvatochromic effect, i.e., significant bathochromic shift of the emission spectra and larger Stokes shifts were observed in more polar solvents mainly due to photoinduced intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The two-photon absorption (2PA) cross-section values were determined by two-photon excited fluorescence (2PEF) measurements in toluene and THF. These chromophores exhibited large two-photon absorption cross-sections ranging from 280 to 1620 GM in the near-infrared (NIR) region. Compound 6 showed the largest 2PA action cross-section (σ(2)Φ) of 564 GM and could be a potential two-photon fluorescent (2PF) probe. In addition, compounds 1-6 all displayed good thermal stability and photostability.  相似文献

A series of new one, two, and three-branched two-photon absorption triazine derivatives with a π-bond and a σ-electron pair as a bridge have been synthesized and their photophysical properties have been systematically investigated. These chromophores showed obvious solvatochromic effects, i.e., significant bathochromic shifting of the emission spectra and larger Stokes shifts were observed in more polar solvents mainly due to intra-molecular charge transfer (ICT). The two-photon absorption (2PA) cross-section values were determined by the two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) measurements in DMF. This result further proved that a σ-electron pair as a bridge is an efficient way to transfer charge as well as a π bridge, and that their 2PA cross-section values (δ) increase with increasing branch number.  相似文献

Enhanced two-photon-absorbing (2PA) systems with triplet cores are currently under scrutiny for several biomedical applications, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) and two-photon microscopy of oxygen. The performance of so far developed molecules, however, is substantially below expected. In this study we take a detailed look at the processes occurring in these systems and propose ways to improve their performance. We focus on the interchromophore distance tuning as a means for optimization of two-photon sensors for oxygen. In these constructs, energy transfer from several 2PA chromophores is used to enhance the effective 2PA cross section of phosphorescent metalloporphyrins. Previous studies have indicated that intramolecular electron transfer (ET) can act as an effective quencher of phosphorescence, decreasing the overall sensor efficiency. We studied the interplay between 2PA, energy transfer, electron transfer, and phosphorescence emission using Rhodamine B-Pt tetrabenzoporphyrin (RhB-PtTBP) adducts as model compounds. 2PA cross sections (sigma2) of tetrabenzoporphyrins (TBPs) are in the range of several tens of GM units (near 800 nm), making TBPs superior 2PA chromophores compared to regular porphyrins (sigma2 values typically 1-2 GM). Relatively large 2PA cross sections of rhodamines (about 200 GM in 800-850 nm range) and their high photostabilities make them good candidates as 2PA antennae. Fluorescence of Rhodamine B (lambda(fl) = 590 nm, phi(fl) = 0.5 in EtOH) overlaps with the Q-band of phosphorescent PtTBP (lambda(abs) = 615 nm, epsilon = 98 000 M(-1) cm(-1), phi(p) approximately 0.1), suggesting that a significant amplification of the 2PA-induced phosphorescence via fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) might occur. However, most of the excitation energy in RhB-PtTBP assemblies is consumed in several intramolecular ET processes. By installing rigid nonconducting decaproline spacers (Pro10) between RhB and PtTBP, the intramolecular ETs were suppressed, while the chromophores were kept within the F?rster r0 distance in order to maintain high FRET efficiency. The resulting assemblies exhibit linear amplification of their 2PA-induced phosphorescence upon increase in the number of 2PA antenna chromophores and show high oxygen sensitivity. We also have found that PtTBPs possess unexpectedly strong forbidden S0 --> T1 bands (lambda(max) = 762 nm, epsilon = 120 M-1 cm-1). The latter may overlap with the laser spectrum and lead to unwanted linear excitation.  相似文献

A series of octupolar fluorophores built from a triphenylamine (TPA) core connected to electron‐withdrawing (EW) peripheral groups through conjugated spacers has been synthesized. Their photoluminescence, solvatochromism, and two‐photon absorption (2PA) properties were systematically investigated to derive structure–property relationships. All derivatives exhibit two 2PA bands in the 700–1000 nm region: a first band at low energy correlated with a core‐to‐periphery intramolecular charge transfer that leads to an intense 1PA in the blue‐visible range, and a second more intense band at higher energy due to an efficient coupling of the branches through the TPA core. Increasing the strength of the EW end groups or the length of the conjugated spacers and replacing triple‐bond linkers with double bonds induces both enhancement and broadening of the 2PA responses, thereby leading to cross‐sections up to 2100 GM at peak and higher than 1000 GM over the whole 700–900 nm range. All derivatives exhibit intense photoluminescence (PL) in low‐ to medium‐polarity environments (with quantum yields in the 0.5–0.9 range) and display a strong positive solvatochromic behavior (with Lippert–Mataga specific shifts ranging from 15 000 to 27 500 cm?1), triple bonds, and phenyl moieties in the conjugated spacers, thereby leading to larger sensitivities than those of double bonds and thienyl moieties. More hydrophilic derivatives were also shown to be biocompatible, to retain their 2PA and PL properties in biological conditions, and finally to be suitable as polarity sensors for multiphoton cell imaging.  相似文献

A macrocyclic trichromophore bundle 1 with parallel-aligned dipole moments has been synthesized to study the influence of aggregation and orientation of a nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophore on its optical properties. The linear and nonlinear optical properties of 1 and a single chromophore standard 2 have been studied by UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, solvatochromic spectrometry, and hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS). Reduced first-order hyperpolarizability beta, hypsochromic shift, enhanced solvatochromic shifts, and fluorescence quenching for individual chromophores were observed when 1 was compared with 2. Analysis of the data showed that the transition dipole moment changes only slightly when the chromophores are parallel aligned in the bundle architecture. However, the apparent hyperpolarizability of the individual chromophores decreased significantly by about 20%. The reduction in beta for the individual chromophores in 1 is largely due to the hypsochromic shift, i.e., excitation energy increase of the interband (charge-transfer) energy gap and the reduced difference between the ground-state and excited-state dipole moments. The hypsochromic shift and fluorescence quenching are consistent with exciton theory. Possible reasons for the enhanced solvatochromic shift are discussed.  相似文献

Resonance enhancement of two-photon absorption in fluorescent proteins   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We measure two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra of wild-type green fluorescent protein, cyan fluorescent protein, and monomeric red fluorescent protein in absolute cross section values in a wide spectral range (lambda2PA = 550 - 1300 nm), and find, for the first time to our knowledge, a new S0 --> Sn 2PA transition in all three proteins in the short-wavelength region. This transition is strongly resonantly enhanced, showing 2PA cross section values of approximately 20-160 GM, which are at least 2-4 times higher than those measured in the lowest energy (S0 --> S1) transition of corresponding proteins. We also show that the change of permanent dipole moment upon S0 --> S1 excitation (|Deltamu10|) can be deduced from 2PA cross section, providing a new tool for fast evaluation of |Deltamu10| in physiological conditions.  相似文献

The linear photophysical, excited state absorption (ESA), superfluorescence, and two-photon absorption (2PA) properties of 4,4'-(1E,1'E)-2,2'-(7,7'(1E,1'E)2,2'(4,4'-sulfonylbis(4,1-phenylene))bis(ethane-2,1-diyl)bis(9,9-didecy-9H-fluorene7,2-diyl))bis(ethane-2,1-diyl)bis(N,N-diphenylaniline) (1) were investigated in organic and aqueous media with respect to its potential application in biological imaging. The analysis of linear photophysical properties revealed a rather complex nature of the main one-photon absorption band, strong solvatochromic effects in the steady-state fluorescence spectra, single-exponential fluorescence decay, and high fluorescence quantum yields in organic solvents (≈1.0). The ESA spectra of 1 suggested potential for light amplification in nonpolar media while efficient superfluorescence in cyclohexane was demonstrated. The degenerate 2PA spectra of 1 were obtained over a broad spectral range (640-900 nm), using a standard two-photon induced fluorescence method under 1 kHz femtosecond excitation. Two well defined 2PA bands with maximum 2PA cross sections up to 1700 GM in the higher energy, short wavelength band and ≈1200 GM in the lower energy, long wavelength band of 1 were shown. The potential use of 1 in bioimaging was demonstrated via one- and two-photon in vitro fluorescence imaging of HCT 116 cells.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterisation of new trans 2-(thiophen-2-yl)vinyl pyridinium, imidazolium and quinoilinium iodides is reported together with their solvatochromic shifts and EFISH characterization. 2-{(E)-2-[5'-(dibutylamino)-2,2'-bithien-5-yl]vinyl}-1-methyl pyridinium and quinolinium iodides display high μ.β(vec) values up to 1200 × 10(-48) esu. The promising non-linear optical (NLO) properties of this new family of chromophores, which can be further improved by the design of highly efficient systems exploiting the donor and acceptor properties of both heteroaromatic rings and substituents, make them suitable candidates for second harmonic generation imaging with interesting biological applications.  相似文献

Herein, three environment-sensitive (solvatochromic) fluorescent dyes presenting a strong electron acceptor 3-methoxychromone unit and varied electron donor 2-aryl were developed. All three dyes showed remarkable polarity-dependent shifts of the emission maximum, which increase with extension of the dye conjugation. For the 3-methoxychromone bearing a 7-(diethylamino)-9,9-dimethylfluoren-2-yl donor group the difference between the excited and the ground state dipole moments, estimated from the Lippert-Mataga expression, reached 20 D, which is among the largest reported for neutral dipolar fluorophores. Moreover, the new dyes are characterized by significant two-photon absorption cross-section (up to 450 GM) and large fluorescence quantum yields. The strong decrease in the fluorescence quantum yields of the dyes in polar protic solvents was observed together with the increase in the non-radiative deactivation rates, which can originate from twisted intramolecular charge transfer and intermolecular proton transfer phenomena. In comparison to the parent 3-hydroxychromone derivatives, the new dyes presented significantly improved photostability, which confirms that photodegradation of 3-hydroxychromones occurs from a product of the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (phototautomer). Finally, an application of the new dyes for probing local binding site polarity of serum albumin was shown. This new class of fluorescent dyes may serve as attractive building blocks for future molecular sensors utilizing environment-sensitive fluorophores.  相似文献

Three new donor–π–donor (D‐π‐D) tetrathienoacene (thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2‐b]thieno[2,3‐d]thiophene (TTA))‐cored chromophores, end‐functionalized with electron‐donating triphenylamine (TPA) groups, were developed and characterized for their two‐photon‐related properties by using both nano‐ and femtosecond laser pulses as the probing tools. TTA‐based chromophores exhibit stronger and more widely dispersed two‐photon absorption (2PA) than those of dithienothiophene (DTT)‐based congeners. As a consequence, the bithiophene‐conjugated TTA chromophore exhibits the highest maximum 2PA cross‐section value (up to 2500 GM) with good thermal stability, and thus, it is the best performing two‐photon chromophore among the studied model compounds. The bithiophene‐conjugated DTT analogue exhibits the second highest maximum two‐photon absorptivity of 1950 GM, which is nearly 7 times larger than that of previously reported DTT‐based chromophores.  相似文献

Three novel nonlinear chromophores with symmetric D-π-D molecular structure and extended conjugated length were synthesized. Solvatochromism analysis shows great symmetric intramolecular charge transfer occurring in chromophores by the enhancement in the dipole moment between the ground and excited states. The properties of optical power limiting induced by three-photon absorption (3PA) are demonstrated. Large 3PA coefficients and the corresponding molecular cross sections as high as 10-74 cm6s2 were obtained for nanosecond laser pulses at 1.06 μm from nonlinear transmission measurements.  相似文献

We study two-photon absorption (2PA) in two series of new free-base porphyrins with 4-(diphenylamino)stilbene or 4,4'-bis-(diphenylamino)stilbene (BDPAS) attached via pi-conjugating linkers at the porphyrin meso-position. We show that this new substitution modality increases the 2PA cross section in the Soret band region (excitation wavelength 750-900 nm) of the core porphyrin by nearly 2 orders of magnitude, from sigma(2) approximately 10 GM for the meso-phenyl-substituted analogue to sigma(2) approximately 10(3) GM for the ethynyl-linked BDPAS-porphyrin dyad. The 2PA properties are quantitatively described by considering two different and interfering 2PA quantum transition pathways. The first path involves virtual transition via intermediate one-photon resonance. The second path bypasses the intermediate resonance and occurs due to a large permanent dipole moment difference between the ground and the final electronic states. To our best knowledge, this is the first experimental observation of the combined effect of these two pathways on one particular two-photon transition, resulting in quantum-interference-modulated 2PA strength.  相似文献

The flash-photolysis time-resolved microwave conductivity technique (FP-TRMC) has been used to investigate the nature of the relaxed S(1) state of 9,9'-bianthryl (AA), 10-cyano-9,9'-bianthryl (CAA), and 10,10'-dicyano-9,9'-bianthryl (CAAC). Changes in both the real, Deltaepsilon' (dielectric constant), and imaginary, Deltaepsilon' ' (dielectric loss), components of the complex permittivity have been measured. The dielectric loss transients conclusively demonstrate the dipolar nature of S(1) for all three compounds in the pseudopolar solvents benzene and 1,4-dioxane, and even in the nonpolar solvents n-hexane and cyclohexane. The required symmetry breaking is considered to result from density and structural fluctuations in the solvent environment. The dipole relaxation times for AA (CAAC) are ca. 2 ps for the alkanes and 7.9 (5.3) and 14 (14) ps for benzene and dioxane, respectively. The time scale of dipole relaxation for the symmetrical compounds is much shorter than that for rotational diffusion and is attributed to intramolecular, flip-flop dipole reversal via a neutral excitonic state. The dipole moment of the transient dipolar state is estimated to be ca. 8 D, that is much lower than the value of ca. 20 D determined from the solvatochromic shifts in the fluorescence in intermediate to highly polar solvents which corresponds to close to complete charge separation. For the asymmetric compound, CAA, a dipole moment close to 20 D is found in all solvents, including n-hexane. Dipole relaxation in this case occurs on a time scale of several hundred picoseconds and is controlled mainly by diffusional rotation of the molecules. The mechanism and kinetics of formation of the dipolar excited states are discussed in the light of these results.  相似文献

To fabricate stable photoresponsive films and devices, a cross‐linked network that firmly fixes the position of the chromophores is an ideal structure, because aggregation and/or phase separation effects of chromophores in matrix can be effectively restrained in such robust films. Herein, the in situ electrochemical deposition (ED) of azo‐based precursors containing multielectroactive carbazole units is utilized to construct highly cross‐linked photoresponsive films. 2‐(4‐(9,9‐bis(6‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)hexyl)‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)phenyl)‐1‐(4‐(9,9‐bis(6‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)hexyl)‐9H‐fluoren‐7‐yl)phenyl)diazene (BFCzAzo) with high solvability in electrolyte solution, high electroactivity, and highly efficient photoresponsive ability is synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction as a kind of ED precursor. A highly cross‐linked photoresponsive film is fabricated by ED method using BFCzAzo as ED precursor. The film can be patterned in large area by irradiation with interfering laser beam (355 nm), and the pattern possesses excellent thermal stability and insoluble ability in both organic and inorganic solvents. Excellent reversibility of the nanostructures is demonstrated by irradiation with 550 nm laser beam.

This report deals with the synthesis and the spectroscopic properties of two second generation (G2) dendrons with site-specific incorporated phenyl pyrene derivatives as solvatochromic fluorescent probes. The generations that do not carry the probe are equipped with volume dummies, pyrene moieties that do not show a solvatochromic effect. Two complementary G2 phenylene alkylene dendrons were synthesized using Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling. Most of the reactions used in the 10-step sequence generating the target compounds proceeded in good yields. The incorporated probes can be selectively photoexcited and show solvatochromic shifts that are of the same magnitude as for the free probes in a homogeneous solvent environment. In addition to the charge-transfer fluorescence, a broad emission band is observed that is assigned to an intramolecular exciplex formation between the aryl pyrene chromophores.  相似文献

Lipophilic fluorophores are widely implemented in nonlinear microscopy; however, few existing membrane-specific probes combine the high brightness of two-photon excited fluorescence (2PEF) with pH sensitivity. Herein we describe four novel two-photon excited fluorophores, based on a coumarin 151 core structure, where lipophilicity is induced by a covalently attached phosphazene moiety. Changing the environmental acidity using trifluoromethanesulfonic (triflic) acid leads to profound changes in the linear fluorescence and 2PEF characteristics, due to chromophores’ switching between neutral- and protonated forms. We characterize this dependence by measuring the two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra over the region λ2PA=550–1000 nm, observing 2PA cross sections of σ2PA=10–20 GM, with an associated 2PEF brightness of 10–13 GM, in neutral solutions of both acetonitrile and n-octanol. Although quantum chemical modelling and NMR measurements show that, at high chromophore concentrations, protonation may be accompanied by a dimerization process, these dimers likely do not form at the lower concentrations used in optical spectroscopy.  相似文献

A novel solvatochromic betaine dye has been synthesized from xanthosine and characterized spectroscopically by UV-vis in a broad range of solvents. The dye 9-(2',3',5'-tri-O-acetyl-beta-d-ribofuranosyl)-2-(pyridinium-1-yl)-9H-purin-6-olate, 1a, exhibits solvent-induced spectral band shifts that are (2)/(3) as large as that of the betaine known as Reichardt's dye, which forms the basis of the E(T)(30) solvent polarity scale. Moreover, the dye 1a is a ribonucleoside and hence has the potential application as a polarity probe for application in RNA oligonucleotides. The isomeric dye 6-(pyridinium-1)-yl-9H-purin-2-olate, 2a, has also been synthesized and exhibits slightly smaller solvatochromic band shifts. The new betaine dyes have also been studied by comparing the experimental and calculated solvatochromic shifts based on the calculation of the UV/vis absorption spectra, using a combination of methods with density functional theory (DFT). The COSMO continuum dielectric method, an applied electric field term in the Hamiltonian, and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods were used to obtain absorption energies, ground-state dipole moments, and the difference dipole moment between the ground and excited states. The calculations predict a lower energy absorption band of charge-transfer character that is highly solvatochromic, and a higher energy absorption band that has pi-pi character which is not solvatochromic, in agreement with the experimental data. For Reichardt's dye the difference dipole moment between the ground and excited state (Deltamu = mu(e) - mu(g)) was also calculated and compared to experiment: Deltamu(calcd) = -6 D and Deltamu(exptl) = -9 +/- 1 D.(1) The ground-state dipole moment was found to be mu(g)(calcd) = 18 D and mu(g)(exptl) = 14.8 +/- 1.2 D.(1).  相似文献

The electronic absorption, and fluorescence excitation and emission spectra of 11 quinazolines have been measured at room temperature (298 K) in several solvents of different polarities (cyclohexane, dioxane, ethylether, chloroform, ethylacetate, 1-butanol, 2-propanol, ethanol, methanol, acetonitrile, dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide). The effects of the solvent upon the spectral properties are discussed. Experimental ground-state dipole moments were measured for quinazolines and were used in combination with the spectral results to evaluate their first excited singlet-state dipole moments by means of the solvatochromic shift method. The theoretical ground and excited singlet-state dipole moments for selected quinazolines were calculated as a vector sum of the π-component (obtained by the PPP method) and the σ-component (obtained from σ-bond moments). A reasonable agreement was observed between the experimental and the theoretical values. Excited singlet-state dipole moments are higher than the ground-state values for most quinazolines.  相似文献
