Multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions have been measured for32S+Al, Cu, Ag and Au at 200A GeV. The widths of the pseudorapidity distributions increase from central to peripheral collisions. The main contribution is assumed to come from the increasing fraction of charged particles stemming from the fragmentation of the target for peripheral collisions as compared to central collisions. On the average 170–180 charged particles per unit of pseudorapidity are attained for the most central32S+Au events at the maximum of the distribution. The target dependence of the yield of charged particles for central collisions is investigated. In the target rapidity region the yield is directly proportional to the target mass. The transverse energy per charged particle has been studied as a function of centrality and pseudorapidity. The experimental results are compared to the results from the Monte-Carlo model VENUS 3.11 which includes rescattering among secondaries. A comparison between different centrality triggers is made.  相似文献

Target remnants withZ<3 from proton-nucleus and16O-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon were measured in the angular range from 30° to 160° (?1.7<η<1.3) employing the Plastic Ball detector. The excitation energy of the target spectator matter in central oxygen-induced collisions is found to be high enough to allow for complete disintegration of the target nucleus into fragments withZ<3. The average longitudinal momentum transfer per proton to the target in central collisions is considerably higher in the case of16O-induced reactions (≈300 MeV/c) than in proton-induced reactions (≈130 MeV/c). The baryon rapidity distributions are roughly in agreement with one-fluid hydrodynamical calculations at 60 GeV/nucleon16O+Au but are in disagreement at 200 GeV/nucleon, indicating the higher degree of transparency at the higher bombarding energy. Both, the transverse momenta of target spectators and the entropy produced in the target fragmentation region are compared to those attained in head-on collisions of two heavy nuclei at Bevalac energies. They are found to be comparable or do even exceed the values for the participant matter at beam energies of about 1–2 GeV/nucleon.  相似文献

Results based on calorimetric measurements are presented from reactions of 60A GeV and 200A GeV16O projectiles with C, Cu, Ag, and Au nuclei. Minimum-bias cross sections are discussed. Energy spectra measured at zero degrees and transverse-energy distributions for the pseudorapidity range 2.4≦η≤5.5 are shown. An analysis of the average transverse energy in terms of the number of participating nucleons and the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions is presented. Estimates of nuclear stopping and of attained energy densities are made.  相似文献

The particle density at mid-rapidity is an essential global variable for the characterization of nuclear collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. It provides information about the initial conditions and energy density reached in these collisions. The pseudorapidity densities of charged particles at mid-rapidity in AuAu collisions at √s NN = 130 and 200 GeV at RHIC (relativistic heavy ion collider) have been measured with the PHENIX detector. The measurements were performed using sets of wire-chambers with pad readout in the two central PHENIX tracking arms. Each arm covers one quarter of the azimuth in the pseudorapidity interval |η| < 035. Data is presented and compared with results from proton-proton collisions and nucleus-nucleus collisions at lower energies. Extrapolations to LHC energies are discussed.  相似文献

Hadron production in soft hadronic collisions is successfully described by a longitudinal excitation and subsequent decay of color flux tubes. We consider the dynamics of interacting unstable strings as a generalization designed forhA andAA interactions at ultrarelativistic energies. The constituent quarks at the ends of the decaying strings and the produced hadrons can interact with the surrounding matter. The effect of secondary interactions in molecular dynamics calculations forAA collisions at CERN energies (200A GeV) can be seen in an enhancement of transverse energy, particle production and the mean transverse momenta. The results agree very well with the experimental measurements at ultrarelativistic beam energies inpp, hA and the recentAA collisions.  相似文献

Intranuclear cascading mechanism one of the important non-linear effects in high energy nucleusnucleus collisions is investigated. The data on multiplicity (n s ) and pseudorapidity (η) distributions of shower particles produced by32S and16O at 200A GeV,16O at 60A GeV,28Si at 14.5A GeV and He at ≈140A GeV are presented and compared with the string model VENUS, which takes into account the cascade interactions of secondary particles. The effect of the intranuclear collisions on the distributions of <η> versus <n s > is discussed for all the beams.  相似文献

The transverse energy cross-sectiondσ/dE T has been measured in the pseudorapidity region 0.6<η<2.4 for hadron-lead collisions at 200 GeV/c incident hadron momentum. TheE T distribution extends to 40 GeV, which is twice the kinematic limit forp-p collisions at the same incident beam momentum. The distribution ofE T is found to shift towards low pseudorapidities with increasing total transverse energy.  相似文献

The pseudorapidity distribution of shower particles produced in the 24Mg-emulsion collisions at 4.5A GeV/c is reported in this paper. The dependences of the distribution width and the peak position on the target size are observed.The pseudorapidity distribution of shower particles for the events with low target multiplicity (light target) is narrower than that with high target multiplicity (heavy target). The maximum probability pseudorapidity for light target is greater than that for heavy target. The experimental data is analyzed by using the cylinder model suggested by Liu et al. The Monte Carlo results based on Liu's cylinder model are approximately in agreement with the experimental tendency and fluctuation.  相似文献

采用修正的Landau 流体力学模型,并考虑到带头粒子效应,对高能重离子碰撞末态带电粒子的赝快度分布进行了讨论。指出:带头粒子的快度分布应为高斯形式,其正规化常数为参与者数。研究表明:流体力学模型本身与BNL-RHIC-PHOBOS 合作组在(NN)½ =200 GeV 的Cu+Cu 碰撞中的实验测量符合得不是很好,只有将参与者的贡献包括在内,实验结果才能得到很好的描述。By using the revised Landau hydrodynamic model and taking into account the effect of leading particles, we discussed the pseudorapidity distributions of final charged particles in high energy heavy ion collisions. We argued that the rapidity distributions of leading particles have the Gaussian form with the normalization constant being equal to the number of participants. The investigations show that the results from the hydrodynamic model alone are not consistent with the experimental data carried out by BNL-RHIC-PHOBOS Collaboration in Cu+Cu collisions at (NN)½ = 200 GeV. Only after the contributions from leading particles are included, can the experimental measurements be described well.  相似文献

The analysis of experimental data for pion-nucleus interactions in the energy range 60 GeV–300 GeV is presented. The pseudorapidity distributions of shower particles are analyzed in terms of pion energy and the average number of intra-nuclear collisions of the projectile. The particle densities in the projectile fragmentation region are compared to predictions of the additive quark model. The relation between the average number of wounded quarks in the projectile and the number of fast protons emitted from the struck nucleus is derived and used to extract from the experimental π?-emulsion data the fragmentation functions for both wounded and spectator quarks. These functions are then used to described the results of independent π?-proton and π?-deuteron experiments.  相似文献

The fission and fragmentation of ultrarelativistic 208Pb nuclei in collisionswith gold nuclei were studied by using a beam from the SPS accelerator at CERN at an energy of 158 GeV per nucleon. The detectors of the target area of the NA45/CERES spectrometer were used in respective measurements. The value obtained for the fission cross section is 301 ± 44 mb, where about 77% of events stem from the electromagnetic interaction of colliding nuclei, while the remaining part is the contribution of peripheral nuclear interactions. The spallation of lead nuclei that involves the formation of heavy fragments occurs only in collisions where the impact parameter satisfies the condition b > 10 fm. A complete disintegration of lead nuclei to intermediate-mass fragments and light particles is observed in some peripheral collisions.  相似文献

Measurements of transverse energy flow are presented for neutral current deep-inelastic scattering events produced in positron-proton collisions at HERA. The kinematic range covers squared momentum transfers from 3.2 to 2 200 GeV, the Bjorken scaling variable x from to 0.11 and the hadronic mass W from 66 to 233 GeV. The transverse energy flow is measured in the hadronic centre of mass frame and is studied as a function of , x, W and pseudorapidity. A comparison is made with QCD-based models. The behaviour of the mean transverse energy in the central pseudorapidity region and an interval corresponding to the photon fragmentation region are analysed as a function of and W. The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider is designed for studying the new state of nuclear matter, which is presumably created in central ultrarelativistic collisions of heavy nuclei: the so-called quark-gluon plasma. Light mesons are an important tool in this research. This paper reviews the recent experimental results on the light meson invariant yields, nuclear modification factors, and the yield ratios for the vector and pseudoscalar mesons in the p + p, d + Au, and Au + Au collisions at the energy of √s NN = 200 GeV.  相似文献

The production of neutral pions by the interaction of 200A·GeV p and16O projectiles with a Au target has been studied in the pseudorapidity range 1.5≦η≦2.1. Transverse momentum spectra have been measured between 0.4 GeV/c and 3.6 GeV/c and their dependence on the centrality of the collision has been investigated. The peripheral-collision spectra display a marked change of slope with a hard component starting at about 1.8 GeV/c, in contrast to central-collision data. The data are discussed in comparison to p+p and α+α data from the ISR.  相似文献

The multiple emission of intermediate-mass fragments (IMF) is studied for collisions of p, 4He, and 12C on Au with the 4π FASA setup. The mean multiplicities of IMF saturate at a value of around 2 for incident energies above 6 GeV. An attempt at describing the observed IMF multiplicities in the two-stage scenario, a fast cascade followed by a statistical multifragmentation, fails. Agreement with the measured IMF multiplicities is obtained by introducing an intermediate expansion phase and modifying empirically the excitation energies and masses of remnants. The angular distributions and energy spectra from p-induced collisions are in agreement with the scenario of “thermal” multifragmentation of a hot and expanded target spectator. In the case of 12C + Au(22.4 GeV) and 4He (14.6 GeV) + Au collisions, deviations from a pure thermal breakup are seen in the fragment energy spectra, which are harder than those both from model calculations and from the measured ones for p-induced collisions. This difference is attributed to a collective flow with the expansion velocity at the surface of about 0.1c (for 12C + Au collisions).  相似文献
