The single-site energy eigenvalues and field matrix elements of reggeon field theory are accurately calculated. Using the block-spin approximation with realistic parameters, the phase transition is studied in one and two dimensions using different methods. In one dimension, the use of blocks with one site and one link gives a critical temperature in agreement with that predicted by the high-temperature expansion. In two dimensions, the methods with critical temperature around the high-temperature expansion result, give a critical pomeron intercept larger than 1.05 in the physical range.  相似文献

In spacetimes with compact dimensions, there exist several black object solutions including the black hole and the black string. They may become unstable depending on their relative size and the length scales in the compact dimensions. The transition between these solutions raises puzzles and addresses fundamental questions such as topology change, uniquenesses, and cosmic censorship. Here, we consider black strings wrapped over the compact circle of a d-dimensional cylindrical spacetime. We construct static nonuniform strings around the marginally stable uniform string. First, we compute the instability mass for a large range of dimensions and find that it follows an exponential law gamma(d), where gamma<1 is a constant. Then we determine that there is a critical dimension, d(*)=13, such that for dd(*) it is, surprisingly, of higher order.  相似文献

In the context of Classical General Relativity, assuming the positive energy condition, we study the possibility of connecting a region where some dimensions are compact to another region where compactification does not exist. In some simple models, where compactification is achieved through the condensation of gauge fields, we find that the matching of these two regions implies the existence of a wormhole. We also discuss the possibility of spontaneous quantum nucleation of a compactified phase in the midst of an uncompactified space.Awarded an honorable mention by the Gravity Research Foundation, 1991  相似文献

We consider Higgs models on a lattice in 3 or 4 dimensions. Higgs scalars are assumed to transform trivially under a finite subgroup Γ of the compact gauge groupG. We adopt 't Hooft's definition of the Higgs phase, it is characterized by a nonvanishing free energy per unit length (area) of a vortex in 3 (4) dimensions. By using a Peierls argument we show that the models are in the Higgs phase in this sense for suitable coupling constants.  相似文献

Sum rules are derived for the quantum wave functions of the Hadamard billiard in arbitrary dimensions. This billiard is a strongly chaotic (Anosov) system which consists of a point particle moving freely on a D-dimensional compact manifold (orbifold) of constant negative curvature. The sum rules express a general (two-point)correlation function of the quantum mechanical wave functions in terms of a sum over the orbits of the corresponding classical system. By taking the trace of the orbit sum rule or pre-trace formula, one obtains the Selberg trace formula. The sum rules are applied in two dimensions to a compact Riemann surface of genus two, and in three dimensions to the only non-arithmetic tetrahedron existing in hyperbolic 3-space. It is shown that the quantum wave functions can be computed from classical orbits. Conversely, we demonstrate that the structure of classical orbits can be extracted from the quantum mechanical energy levels and wave functions (inverse quantum chaology).  相似文献

We have constructed and characterized several optical microring resonators with scale sizes of the order of 10 microm. These devices are intended to serve as building blocks for engineerable linear and nonlinear photonic media. Light is guided vertically by an epitaxially grown structure and transversely by deeply etched air-clad sidewalls. We report on the spectral phase transfer characteristics of such resonators. We also report the observation of a pi-rad Kerr nonlinear phase shift accumulated in a single compact ring resonator evidenced by all-optical switching between output ports of a resonator-enhanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer.  相似文献

The entrainment transition of coupled random frequency oscillators is revisited. The Kuramoto model (global coupling) is shown to exhibit unusual sample-dependent finite-size effects leading to a correlation size exponent nu=5/2. Simulations of locally coupled oscillators in d dimensions reveal two types of frequency entrainment: mean-field behavior at d>4 and aggregation of compact synchronized domains in three and four dimensions. In the latter case, scaling arguments yield a correlation length exponent nu=2/(d-2), in good agreement with numerical results.  相似文献

介绍了TE(A)激光器中Rogowski电极和近似Rogowski电极、Chang电极和紧凑式Chang电极、两类Ernst电极和紧凑式Ernst电极的设计方法。给出了上述放电电极的面型和表面电场分布,简述了制造上述电极的注意事项。在同等电场均匀度和均匀电场分布范围的情况下,对比了保角映射型电极的尺寸大小和电场分布特点。综合放电电极的面型、制造难度、辉光放电实验可知,在要求高能量和高功率的场合下,选择Ernst电极较好;在脉冲激光指标要求一般的场合下,选择近似Rogowski电极较好。  相似文献

The anomaly implies an obstruction to a fully chiral covariant calculation of the effective action in the abnormal-parity sector of chiral theories. The standard approach then is to reconstruct the anomalous effective action from its covariant current. In this work, we use a recently introduced formulation which allows one to directly construct the non-trivial chiral invariant part of the effective action within a fully covariant formalism. To this end we develop an appropriate version of Chan’s approach to carry out the calculation within the derivative expansion. The result to four derivatives, i.e., to leading order in two and four dimensions and next-to-leading order in two dimensions, is explicitly worked out. Fairly compact expressions are found for these terms.  相似文献

We show that condensation in a capped capillary slit is a continuous interfacial critical phenomenon, related intimately to several other surface phase transitions. In three dimensions, the adsorption and desorption branches correspond to the unbinding of the meniscus from the cap and opening, respectively, and are equivalent to 2D-like complete-wetting transitions. For dispersion forces, the singularities on the two branches are distinct, owing to the different interplay of geometry and intermolecular forces. In two dimensions we establish precise connection, or covariance, with 2D critical-wetting and wedge-filling transitions: i.e., we establish that certain interfacial properties in very different geometries are identical. Our predictions of universal scaling and covariance in finite capillaries are supported by extensive Ising model simulation studies in two and three dimensions.  相似文献

We use a novel method of computing the third moment M3 of the action of the (2+1)-dimensional compact Higgs model in the adjoint representation with q=2 to extract correlation length and specific heat exponents nu and alpha without invoking hyperscaling. Finite-size scaling analysis of M3 yields the ratios (1+alpha)/nu and 1/nu separately. We find that alpha and nu vary along the critical line of the theory, which however exhibits a remarkable resilience of Z2 criticality. We propose this novel universality class to be that of the quantum phase transition from a Mott-Hubbard insulator to a charge-fractionalized insulator in two spatial dimensions.  相似文献

A new numerical method is used to study the ground-state properties of the spinless Falicov-Kimball model in one and two dimensions. The resultant solutions are used to examine the phase diagram of the model as well as possibilities for valence and metal-insulator transitions. In one dimension a comprehensive phase diagram of the model is presented. On the base of this phase diagram, the complete picture of valence and metal-insulator transitions is discussed. In two dimensions the structure of ground-state configurations is described for intermediate interactions between f and d electrons. In this region the phase separation and metal-insulator transitions are found at low f-electron concentrations. It is shown that valence transitions exhibit a staircase structure. We investigate the Wightman function, the vacuum expectation values of the field squared and the energy–momentum tensor for a massless scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter in spatially flat Friedmann–Robertson–Walker universes with an arbitrary number of toroidally compactified dimensions. The topological parts in the expectation values are explicitly extracted and in this way the renormalization is reduced to that for the model with trivial topology. In the limit when the comoving lengths of the compact dimensions are very short compared to the Hubble length, the topological parts coincide with those for a conformal coupling and they are related to the corresponding quantities in the flat spacetime by standard conformal transformation. This limit corresponds to the adiabatic approximation. In the opposite limit of large comoving lengths of the compact dimensions, in dependence of the curvature coupling parameter, two regimes are realized with monotonic or oscillatory behavior of the vacuum expectation values. In the monotonic regime and for non-conformally and non-minimally coupled fields the vacuum stresses are isotropic and the equation of state for the topological parts in the energy density and pressures is of barotropic type. For conformal and minimal couplings the leading terms in the corresponding asymptotic expansions vanish and the vacuum stresses, in general, are anisotropic, though the equation of state remains of barotropic type. In the oscillatory regime, the amplitude of the oscillations for the topological part in the expectation value of the field squared can be either decreasing or increasing with time, whereas for the energy–momentum tensor the oscillations are damping. The limits of validity of the adiabatic approximation are discussed.  相似文献

The competition between chain entropy and bending rigidity in compact polymers can be addressed within a lattice model introduced by Flory in 1956 [Proc. R. Soc. London A 234, 60 (1956)]]. It exhibits a transition between an entropy dominated disordered phase and an energetically favored crystalline phase. The nature of this order-disorder transition has been debated ever since the introduction of the model. Here we present exact results for the Flory model in two dimensions relevant for polymers on surfaces, such as DNA adsorbed on a lipid bilayer. We predict a continuous melting transition and compute exact values of critical exponents at the transition point.  相似文献

We present a unifying picture of the compact, dense, and dilute phases of two-dimensional polymers. The lattice dependence of the scaling exponents for compact polymers is reconciled with their universality in the dense and dilute cases. In particular, we show that violations of the fully packing constraint in the compact phase can be interpreted as magnetic screening in the associated Coulomb gas, which induces a flow to either the dense or the dilute phase. When more than one flavor of polymers is present the flow away from the compact phase leads to a decoupling of the flavors, and the central charge decreases by an integer. If charge asymmetry develops, the polymer flavors may independently flow to either of the two noncompact phases.  相似文献

In this study, the radioactive concentrations contained in samples of commonly used building floor materials were measured. This result can be used as basic information for public health and the environment. Among building floor materials, samples of induction blocks, cement bricks, artificial granite blocks and compact high-pressure blocks were chosen and used. A detailed gamma nuclide analysis was performed with a multichannel analyzer by putting these samples on a high-purity germanium detector which is a semiconductor detector. In order to measure the concentration of radionuclides, a spectrum file was obtained by analyzing the concentration of gamma radionuclides and setting the measurement time as 1000, 4000, 7000 and 10,000?s. According to the study results, K-40, Bi-214, Pb-214, Ra-226 and U-235 were detected in the induction blocks measured at 10,000?s and K-40, Th-230, Bi-214, Pb-214, Ra-226 and Na-22 were detected in the cement bricks measured at 10,000?s. K-40, Bi-214, Pb-214, Th-234, U-235 and Ra-223 were detected in the artificial granite blocks measured at 10,000?s and K-40, Bi-214, Pb-214, Th-234, Ra-226, Ra-223 and Mn-54 were detected in the compact high-pressure blocks. In conclusion, low-level radioactivity was detected in building floor materials, so it is thought that measures to reduce radioactivity and further studies on this will be needed.  相似文献

We consider the finite temperature Casimir effect of a massive fermionic field confined between two parallel plates, with MIT bag boundary conditions on the plates. The background spacetime is Mp+1×Tq which has q dimensions compactified to a torus. On the compact dimensions, the field is assumed to satisfy periodicity boundary conditions with arbitrary phases. Both the high temperature and the low temperature expansions of the Casimir free energy and the force are derived explicitly. It is found that the Casimir force acting on the plates is always attractive at any temperature regardless of the boundary conditions assumed on the compact torus. The asymptotic limits of the Casimir force in the small plate separation limit are also obtained.  相似文献
