In many bistable oscillating systems only one of the attractors is desired to possessing certain system performance. We present a method to drive a bistable system to a desired target attractor by annihilating the other one. This shift from bistability to monostability is achieved by augmentation of the nonlinear oscillator with a linear control system. For a proper choice of the control function one of the attractors disappears at a critical coupling strength in an control-induced boundary crisis. This transition from bistability to monostability is demonstrated with two paradigmatic examples, the autonomous Chua oscillator and a neuronal system with a periodic input signal. 相似文献

The bipolar tunneling transport through p–i–n double barrier structures has been studied by means of simultaneous electrical transport measurements and electroluminescence spectroscopy. An “inverted” hysteresis loop is observed at the onset of the first electronic resonance in the current–voltage characteristics with an electrical ON/OFF ratio of more than two orders of magnitude. Relating the different branches of the current–voltage characteristic to the space charges accumulated throughout the structure the inverted hysteresis loop is interpreted in terms of an S-shaped current bistability. The S-shaped current bistability is similar to the current driven negative differential resistivity as known for instance from thyristor action. This analogy between the bipolar double barrier structure with alloyed n-type emitter and the thyristor will be briefly discussed. 相似文献

In this present paper, the optical bistability in a circular laser containing a saturable absorber LSA for inhomogeneous broadening is studied. A simple mathematical model was developed to describe the action of this type of laser in a circular resonator under two conditions, when the spontaneous emission is neglected or included in the cavity. For both of these two cases, the coefficient of saturation was considered to be equal or different to unity (ζ=1 or ζ≠1). The photons intensities Qj were determined as function of the pumping rate σ0 of the active medium and analyzed the linear stability of the stationary solutions obtained in a circular laser containing a saturable absorber “LSA” for inhomogeneous broadening. 相似文献

A theoretical model is proposed to study the propagation of monochromatic electromagnetic plane waves through very thin slabs having gain or loss. The analysis is based on solving the differential equations directly and applying the appropriate boundary conditions. The optical response of the slabs is considered in the linear and nonlinear regimes with a Kerr-type nonlinearity. A number of relations between the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function are derived in order that useful effects related to the non-Hermiticity of the system be presented. The transmission of plane waves through a system consisting of two thin slabs satisfying the condition of Parity-Time symmetry is also considered. 相似文献

As the quantum states of nitrogen vacancy (NV) center can be coherently manipulated and obtained at room temperature, it is important to generate steady-state spin squeezing in spin qubits associated with NV impurities in diamond. With this task we consider a new type of a hybrid magneto-nano-electromechanical resonator, the functionality of which is based on a magnetic-field induced deflection of an appropriate cantilever that oscillates between NV spins in diamond. We show that there is bistability and spin squeezing state due to the presence of the microwave field, despite the damping from mechanical damping. Moreover, we find that bistability and spin squeezing can be controlled by the microwave field and the parameter Vz. Our scheme may have the potential application on spin clocks, magnetometers, and other measurements based on spin–spin system in diamond nanostructures. 相似文献

The emergence of dynamical abrupt transitions for the first time in an ensemble of identical limit-cycle and chaotic oscillators coupled via a common environment is reported. The transition from the oscillatory state to the death state and vice versa, in these networks of oscillators are found not only discontinuous as well as irreversible in the parameter space. This first order phase transition in these systems is termed as Explosive Death. The occurrence of such transition is studied in details by using an appropriate order parameter for both limit-cycle and chaotic oscillators, in particular, Stuart–Landau and Rössler oscillators. The backward transition point for this phenomenon is obtained analytically using linear stability analysis and is found to be consistent with the numerical results. 相似文献
