The propagation of infinitesimal surface waves on a half-spaceof incompressible isotropic elastic material subject to a generalpure homogeneous pre-strain is considered. The secular equationfor propagation along a principal axis of the pre-strain isobtained for a general strain-energy function, and conditionswhich ensure stability of the underlying pre-strain are derived. The influence of the pre-stress on the existence of surfacewaves is examined and, in particular, it is found that, undera certain range of hydrostatic pre-stress, a unique wavespeedexists and is bounded above by a limiting speed which correspondsto the shear wave speed in an infinite body. The secular equationis analysed in detail for particular deformations and, for anumber of specific forms of strain-energy function, numericalresults are used to illustrate the dependence of the wave speedon the pre-strain. Particular attention is focused on pre-strainscorresponding to loss of stability, in which case the infinitesimalstrain is time-independent (the wave speed being zero). Thetheory described here encompasses previous work on surface wavesand instabilities in incompressible isotropic elastic materialsand provides a clear delimitation of the range of deformationsfor which surface waves exist.  相似文献

The generalized thermoelasticity theory based upon the Green and Naghdi model II of thermoelasticity as well as the Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity model is used to study the propagation of harmonic plane waves in a nonlocal thermoelastic medium. We found two sets of coupled longitudinal waves which are dispersive in nature and associated with attenuation. In addition to the coupled waves, there also exists one independent vertically shear type wave which is dispersive but without any attenuation. All these waves are found to be influenced by the elastic nonlocality parameter. Furthermore, the shear type wave is found to to be associated with a critical frequency, while the coupled longitudinal waves may have critical frequencies under constraints. The problem of reflection of the thermoelastic waves at the stress-free insulated and isothermal boundary of a homogeneous, isotropic nonlocal thermoelastic half-space has also been investigated. The formulae for various reflection coefficients and their respective energy ratios are determined in various cases. For a particular material, the effects of the angular frequency and the elastic nonlocal parameter have been shown on the phase speeds and the attenuation coefficients of the propagating waves. The effect of the elastic nonlocality on the reflection coefficients as well as the energy ratios has been observed and depicted graphically. Finally, analysis of the various results has been interpreted.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the Rayleigh wave dispersion in an incompressible functionally graded orthotropic half-space loaded by a thin fluid-saturated aeolotropic porous layer under initial stress. Both the layer and half-space have subjected to the incompressible in nature. The particle motion of the Rayleigh type wave is elliptically polarized in the plane, which described by the normal to the surface and the focal point along with wave generation. The dispersion of waves refers typically to frequency dispersion, which means different wavelengths travel at a different velocity of phase. To deal with the analytical solution of displacement components of Rayleigh type waves in a layer over a half-space, we have taken the assistance of different methods like exponential, characteristic polynomial and undetermined coefficients. The dispersion relation has been derived based upon suitable boundary conditions. The finite difference scheme has been introduced to calculate the phase velocity and group velocity of the Rayleigh type waves. We also have derived the stability condition of the finite difference scheme (FDS) for the phase and group velocities. If a wave equation has to travel in the time domain, it is necessary to achieve both accuracy and stability requirements. In such cases, FDS is preferred because of its power, accuracy, reliability, rapidity, and flexibility. The effect of various parameters involved in the model like non-homogeneity, porosity, and internal pre-stress on the propagation of Rayleigh type waves have been studied in detail. Graphical representations for the effects of various parameters on the dispersion equation have been represented. Numerical results demonstrated the accuracy and versatility of the group and phase velocity depending on the stability ratio of the FDS.  相似文献

The reflection and refraction of SH waves by an elastic layer sandwiched between two elastic half-spaces are studied by using the numerical simulation on the basis of contour integration in the complex plane of the horizontal component of the slowness vector. The propagation of body, channel, head, and screened body waves are simulated in time and spectral domains. The wave fields associated with the propagation in the layer have strong attenuation, provided that the wave length is smaller than the value of the thickness of the layer. The stationary wave field of such waves is of resonance nature. Moreover, the maximum of the modulus of the spectral function is shifted to higher frequences as the epicentric distance increases. Thus, the attenuation of such waves depends on spectral characteristics of a source-receiver system. Translated fromZapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov POMI, Vol. 225, 1997, pp. 91–120. Translated by T. N. Using a boundary method, we investigated the scattering of elastic plane harmonic SH, SV, P, and Rayleigh waves by three-dimensional nonaxisymmetric dipping layers embedded in an elastic half-space. The valley was subjected to incident Rayleigh wave and oblique incident SH, SV, and P waves. The method utilized spherical wave functions to express the unknown scattered field. These functions satisfy the equation of motion and radiation conditions at infinity but they do not satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions at the surface of the half-space. The boundary and continuity conditions are imposed locally in the least-square-sense at several points on the layer interface and on the surface of the half-space. A comparative study was done to examine the validity and limitations of the two-dimensional approximations (antiplane and plane strain models) of three-dimensional models. It is demonstrated that the two-dimensional approximations may be inadequate to represent actual displacement field for three-dimensional irregularities.  相似文献

The problem of the stress concentration on a free tunnel-shaped cavity in an orthotropic half-space with a free flat boundary, on which shear waves in the form of periodic triangular pulses are incident, is solved. The initial problem is reduced to a series of problems of diffraction of harmonic shear waves. The effect of the degree of shear anisotropy on the tangential-stress concentration at the boundary of a cavity with a circular cross section is studied for different positions of the leading edge of the pulse relative to the boundary of the half-space and the cavity.Donetsk. It is shown that the surface-guided elastic waves found by Kiselevfor isotropic materials and having displacements depending linearlyupon the Cartesian coordinate orthogonal to the sagittal planemay be generalised in many ways. For surface waves on any anisotropichalf-space, a simple procedure applied to the displacementswithin the standard surface wave having dependence ei, where k · xt and k is the (surface) wave vector, yields displacements depending linearly upon the surface cartesiancoordinate orthogonal to the group velocity vector. Moreover, repeated application of this (differentiation) procedure yieldsa hierarchy of waves having algebraic dependence of successivelyincreasing degree. For isotropic materials, substantial simplificationand generalization are possible. Solutions of all algebraicdegrees have identical depth dependence. This allows the solutionsto be constructed iteratively and motivates a search for generalsolutions having depth dependence of the normal displacementthe same as in the standard surface wave. The procedure givesa new derivation of the solutions found by Achenbach havingamplitude of the normal displacement of the surface given byany solution to the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation. Furthermore, exploiting the scale invariance (a property of surface waveson any homogeneous half-space) shows that in every surface-guideddisturbance of an elastic half-space, the elevation of the freesurface is a solution of the wave equation in two dimensions(the membrane equation). Using the paraxial approximation tothe membrane equation, high-frequency Rayleigh waves propagatingas narrow beams are described in terms of a scalar Gaussianbeam.  相似文献

A linearized problem of the reflection and transmission of a plasma wave at the boundary of a half-space (namely, the plane separating two crystallites) is formulated and analytically solved. The electron distribution function and the electric field inside the half-space of a degenerate plasma are found. The reflection and transmission coefficients are determined as functions of the input parameters of the problem. The longwave limit (i.e., the resonance case when the oscillation frequency of the self-consistent electric field is close to the natural (Langmuir) oscillation frequency) is analyzed.  相似文献

The nonstationary problem of propagation of a longitudinal plane one-dimensional stress wave through a plane-parallel viscoelastic layer of finite thickness separating two linear elastic half-spaces with different properties is solved in the linear formulation. A plane wave traveling in one of the half-spaces is normally incident on the boundary of the layer (one-dimensional problem). The field in the other elastic half-space, excited as a result of the multiple reflection of the fronts from the boundaries of the layer, is investigated. Graphs of the small displacements at a given point of the elastic half-space are presented. The solution of the problem is based on the dynamic correspondence principle formulated by Bland [3].Central Scientific-Research Institute of Machine Building, Moscow. Asymptotic high-freqeuncy estimates are obtained for the amplitudes of specular and non-specular reflections with extraction of the contribution of sound reradiation into the surrounding medium by Rayleigh type surface elastic waves. The conditions are found that govern the magnification of scattering in the opposite direction. The theoretical explanation of the book reflection effect /1/ for bounded sound beam incidence on the plane interface of a fluid-elastic solid is given by many authors in different situations (/12/, say). As for non-specular reflection of a plane sound wave by bounded elastic bodies (plates, cylinders, rods, and shells enclosed in a screen), studied most thoroughly in /3–9/, this effect is a consequence of satisfying the space-time resonance conditions between the incident acoustic wave and the normal surface waves excited in an elastic solid under total internal reflection.  相似文献

A new approach for constructing functionally invariant solutions for dynamic problems of the plane theory of elasticity of anisotropic media is proposed. Solutions of the equations of motion in displacements and potentials, which express plane waves and waves from a point source, and also complex solutions of a general type are obtained and investigated. The problem of the reflection of plane waves from the boundary of a half-space is solved for comparison with earlier results [1]. The solutions obtained agree with the physical meaning of the problems and with the solutions for isotropic media.  相似文献

A study is made of over-reflection of acoustic-gravity waves incident upon a magnetic shear layer in an isothermal compressible electrically conducting fluid in the presence of an external magnetic field. The reflection and transmission coefficients of hydromagnetic acoustic-gravity waves incident upon magnetic shear layer are calculated. The invariance of wave-action flux is used to investigate the properties of reflection, transmission and absorption of the waves incident upon the shear layer, and then to discuss how these properties depend on the wavelength, length scale of the shear layers, and the ratio of the flow speed and phase speed of the waves. Special attention is given to the relationship between the wave-amplification and critical-level behaviour. It is shown that there exists a critical level within the shear layer and the wave incident upon the shear layer is over-reflected, that is, more energy is reflected back towards the source than was originally emitted. The mechanism of the over-reflection (or wave amplification) is due to the fact that the excess reflected energy is extracted by the wave from the external magnetic field. It is also found that the absence of critical level within the shear layer leads to non-amplification of waves. For the case of very large vertical wavelength of waves, the coefficients of incident, reflected and transmitted energy are calculated. In this limiting situation, the wave is neither amplified nor absorbed by the shear layer. Finally, it is shown that resonance occurs at a particular value of the phase velocity of the wave.  相似文献

The propagation of plane harmonic waves are studied in a microstretch fluid medium. It is found that five basic waves can propagate at distinct speeds in an infinite linear homogeneous isotropic microstretch fluid. Out of these five waves, one is a longitudinal micro-rotational wave, two are coupled longitudinal waves and remaining two are coupled transverse waves. The longitudinal micro-rotational wave travels independently and is not influenced by the microstretching of the medium, while the coupled longitudinal waves arise due to the presence of microstretching and coupled transverse waves arise due to the presence of micro-rotation in the medium. Speed of propagation of all the waves are found to be complex valued and dispersive at low frequency, but almost non-dispersive at high frequency. Due to complex valued speeds of propagation, all the waves are attenuating but differently. Coupled sets of longitudinal waves reduce to a longitudinal wave of micropolar fluid in the absence of microstretching. Reflection phenomena of a set of coupled longitudinal waves incident obliquely at the free surface of a microstretch fluid half-space has been investigated. Closed formulae for the reflection coefficients are presented and computed numerically for a particular medium. The real and imaginary parts of the complex speeds of all the waves and their corresponding attenuation coefficients have also been studied numerically and depicted graphically against frequency parameter.  相似文献

The governing equations of thermoelasticity of transversely isotropic solid with initial stresses are formulated at uniform temperature. These equations are solved analytically in two-dimensions to show the existence of three plane quasi waves, namely, Quasi-Longitudinal (QL), Thermal (T-mode) and Quasi-Transverse (QT) waves. Reflection from a thermally insulated stress free surface of an initial stressed transversely isotropic thermoelastic solid half-space is studied. A particular model is chosen for the numerical computations of the propagation speeds, attenuation coefficients and reflection coefficients. Effects of initial stress parameter and thermal disturbances are observed on speeds of propagation, attenuation coefficients and reflection coefficients.  相似文献

At the present time a number of papers has been already devoted to the dynamics of two-phase media. One may mention the papers by Frenkel' [1], Rakhmatulin [2], Biot [3,4], Zwikker and Kosten [5], and others. However, the basic problem of the setting up of the equations of motion in two-phase media still cannot be considered solved and requires additional study and experimental verification.

This paper is concerned with the study of the simplest case of motion, which is the propagation of elastic waves in a homogeneous isotropic medium consisting of a solid and a fluid phase. The problems of the reflection of plane waves and surface waves at the free boundary of the half-space are solved. It is shown that the stress-strain relations established by Frenkel' are equivalent to the analogous relations proposed by Biot and that the equations of motion of the latter are more general.  相似文献

In this paper, the propagation of Love-type waves in a homogeneously and finitely deformed layered half-space of an incompressible non-conducting magnetoelastic material in the presence of an initial uniform magnetic field is analyzed. The equations and boundary conditions governing linearized incremental motions superimposed on an underlying deformation and magnetic field for a magnetoelastic material are summarized and then specialized to a form appropriate for the study of Love-type waves in a layered half-space. The wave propagation problem is then analyzed for different directions of the initial magnetic field for two different magnetoelastic energy functions, which are generalizations of the standard neo-Hookean and Mooney?CRivlin elasticity models. The resulting wave speed characteristics in general depend significantly on the initial magnetic field as well as on the initial finite deformation, and the results are illustrated graphically for different combinations of these parameters. In the absence of a layer, shear horizontal surface waves do not exist in a purely elastic material, but the presence of a magnetic field normal to the sagittal plane makes such waves possible, these being analogous to Bleustein?CGulyaev waves in piezoelectric materials. Such waves are discussed briefly at the end of the paper.  相似文献

The article models external flow problems on artificially bounded regions. In the linear approximation we examine the reflection of acoustic waves in a moving medium, incident at various angles on a fixed boundary. We consider the construction of various boundary conditions and estimate their reflecting properties for plane waves and waves from point sources. The plane wave approximation is justified theoretically. A method is proposed for estimating the integral reflection coefficient for waves with a whole range of incidence angles. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Matematika i Informatika, No. 24, pp. 76–110, 2006.  相似文献
