Temperature dependence of S.C.L.C. in anthracene crystals

Zusammenfassung Aus der Temperaturabhängigkeit des Löcherstroms in Anthrazen-Einkristallen wird die Aktivierungsenergie bei verschiedenen Dunkelstromwerten gemessen. Die Aktivierungsenergien liegen zwischen 0,65 eV und 0,95 eV für Ströme von 10^–10 bzw. 10^–12 Ampère bei Zimmertemperatur.Ferner wird für mehrere Temperaturwerte die Aktivierung der in Haftstellen sitzenden Ladungsträger mit Hilfe von Licht verschiedener Intensität untersucht.     

Vibrocreep in polymers. I. Review

Research into certain aspects of the vibrocreep of structural materials, including metals, concrete, and polymers, is briefly reviewed. O.R. in the Community

For the past eighteen months the authors have been involved in work with a community group attempting to help the unemployed youth of their small city. This paper discusses some of the key differences and similarities they found between this work in the community and more traditional organizations, particularly in terms of client-consultant expectations and their "organizational" context. The authors were made aware of the inadequacy of traditional O.R. techniques for helping their clients and the paper also describes some of the unconventional methods they were forced to turn to in order to offer realistic and relevant help with this complex "mess" of multiple problems, nested feedback loops and subjective, political beliefs not amenable to quantification.     

National Distribution in F. W. Woolworth

This paper describes a study of the distribution system in a large retail company which was carried out by consultants with assistance from company personnel. The problems of availability of data and suitable package programs are described. Heuristic methods of analysis were used based on the rapid evaluation of costs for alternative distribution strategies by means of a computer program developed in response to a previous study. The recommendations made at the end of the study were accepted by the company and are in the process of implementation.     

Real-World O.R./M.S. Applications in Journals

In this paper, we present the results of a study of real-world applications of O.R./M.S. as seen in journals. Five leading journals in the field are surveyed, and real-world application articles are classified using a two dimensional framework consisting of orientation and decision. The orientation dimension separates strategically oriented applications with long-term implications and tactically oriented applications with medium- and short-term implications. The decision dimension refers to the type of decision in the application-largely structured or largely unstructured. The major O.R./M.S. topics are placed in the resulting four quadrants, and articles published in the four most recent volumes of the five journals are classified. Based on the results of this survey, the thrust and shortcomings of implementation research are discussed. Some measures for enhancing publication of field-based research are also proposed.
