Local saturation of conservative operators

We state a result about the local saturation of sequences of linear operators that preserve the sign of the k-th derivative of the functions. We apply it to the well known approximation operators of Bernstein, Szász–Mirakjan, Meyer–König and Zeller, and Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn.     

Saturation theorems for interpolation and the Bernstein-Schnabl operator

We shall study properties of box spline operators: cardinal interpolation, convolution, and the Bernstein-Schnabl operator. We prove the saturation theorem.

     

Local and global results for modified Szász–Mirakjan operators

In this paper, we study a natural modification of Szász–Mirakjan operators. It is shown by discussing many important established results for Szász–Mirakjan operators. The results do hold for this modification as well, be they local in nature or global, be they qualitative or quantitative. It is also shown that this generalization is meaningful by means of examples and graphical representations. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Two-parameter spectral averaging and localization for non-monotonic random Schrödinger operators

We prove exponential localization at all energies for two types of one-dimensional random Schrödinger operators: the Poisson model and the random displacement model. As opposed to Anderson-type models, these operators are not monotonic in the random parameters. Therefore the classical one-parameter version of spectral averaging, as used in localization proofs for Anderson models, breaks down. We use the new method of two-parameter spectral averaging and apply it to the Poisson as well as the displacement case. In addition, we apply results from inverse spectral theory, which show that two-parameter spectral averaging works for sufficiently many energies (all but a discrete set) to conclude localization at all energies.

     

Addendum to "On the L1-Condition Number of the Univariate Bernstein Basis"

The paper mentioned above is a contribution of the authors to Volume 18 (2002) of this journal, see . Recently, J. Domsta pointed out to us that the proof of Theorem 4.2 in that paper contains an error. The purpose of this addendum is to present a correct argument for it.     

Interpolation of Ideal Measures by Abstract K and J Spaces

We work with the abstract K and J interpolation method generated by a sequence lattice Г. We investigate the deviation of an interpolated operator from a given operator ideal by establishing formulae for the ideal measure of the interpolated operator in terms of the ideal measures of restrictions of the operator. Formulae are given in terms of the norms of the shift operators on Г.     

Three classes of smooth Banach submanifolds in B(E,F)

Let E, F be two Banach spaces, and B(E, F), Φ(E, F), SΦ(E, F) and R(E,F) be the bounded linear, Fredholm, semi-Frdholm and finite rank operators from E into F, respectively. In this paper, using the continuity characteristics of generalized inverses of operators under small perturbations, we prove the following result Let ∑ be any one of the following sets {T ∈ Φ(E, F) IndexT =const, and dim N(T) = const.}, {T ∈ SΦ(E, F) either dim N(T) = const. ＜ ∞ or codim R(T) = const.＜ ∞} and {T ∈ R(E, F) RankT =const.＜∞}. Then ∑ is a smooth submanifold of B(E, F) with the tangent space TA∑ = {B ∈ B(E,F) BN(A) (∪) R(A)} for any A ∈ ∑. The result is available for the further application to Thom's famous results on the transversility and the study of the infinite dimensional geometry.

Applications of B‐bounded nonlinear semigroups to particle transport problems

In this paper we study an application of nonlinear B‐bounded semigroups introduced in a previous paper. The application is similar to the particle transport problem which led to B‐bounded linear semigroups. Corrigendum to “Discrepancy principle for the dynamical systems method” [Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation 10 (2005) 95–101]

Consider an operator equation B(u) − f = 0 in a real Hilbert space. Let us call this equation ill-posed if the operator B′(u) is not boundedly invertible, and well-posed otherwise. The dynamical systems method (DSM) for solving this equation consists of a construction of a Cauchy problem, which has the following properties: (1) it has a global solution for an arbitrary initial data, (2) this solution tends to a limit as time tends to infinity, (3) the limit is the minimal-norm solution to the equation B(u) = f. A global convergence theorem is proved for DSM for equation B(u) − f = 0 with monotone operators B.     

CONVERGENCE RATE FOR ITERATES OF q-BERNSTEIN POLYNOMIALS

Recently, q-Bernstein polynomials have been intensively investigated by a number of authors. Their results show that for q ≠ 1, q-Bernstein polynomials possess of many interesting properties. In this paper, the convergence rate for iterates of both q-Bernstein polynomials and their Boolean sum are estimated. Moreover, the saturation of {Bn（., qn）} when n → ∞ and convergence rate of Bn（f,q;x） when f ∈ C^n-1 [0, 1], q → ∞ are also presented.     

The Wegner estimate and the integrated density of states for some random operators

The integrated density of states (IDS) for random operators is an important function describing many physical characteristics of a random system. Properties of the IDS are derived from the Wegner estimate that describes the influence of finite-volume perturbations on a background system. In this paper, we present a simple proof of the Wegner estimate applicable to a wide variety of random perturbations of deterministic background operators. The proof yields the correct volume dependence of the upper bound. This implies the local H?lder continuity of the integrated density of states at energies in the unperturbed spectral gap. The proof depends on theL ^p-theory of the spectral shift function (SSF), forp ≥ 1, applicable to pairs of self-adjoint operators whose difference is in the trace idealI _p, for 0p ≤ 1. We present this and other results on the SSF due to other authors. Under an additional condition of the single-site potential, local H?lder continuity is proved at all energies. Finally, we present extensions of this work to random potentials with nonsign definite single-site potentials.     

A summation‐integral type modification of Szász–Mirakjan operators
