LetK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. ForAK[x, y] let σ(A) = {λ ∈K:A − λ is reducible}. For λ ∈ σ(A) letA − λ = ∏ i=1 n(λ) A iλ k μ whereA iλ are distinct primes. Let ϱλ(A) =n(λ) − 1 and let ρ(A) = Σλɛσ(A)ϱλ(A). The main result is the following: Theorem.If A ∈ K[x, y] is not a composite polynomial, then ρ(A) < degA.  相似文献

An upper bound estimate in the law of the iterated logarithm for Σf(n k ω) where nk+1∫nk≧ 1 + ck (α≧0) is investigated. In the case α<1/2, an upper bound had been given by Takahashi [15], and the sharpness of the bound was proved in our previous paper [8]. In this paper it is proved that the upper bound is still valid in case α≧1/2 if some additional condition on {n k} is assumed. As an application, the law of the iterated logarithm is proved when {n k} is the arrangement in increasing order of the set B(τ)={1 i 1...qτ i τ|i1,...,iτN 0}, where τ≧ 2, N 0=NU{0}, and q 1,...,q τ are integers greater than 1 and relatively prime to each others. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Consider a compact Riemannian manifold (M, g) with metric g and dimension n ≥ 3. The Schouten tensor A g associated with g is a symmetric (0, 2)-tensor field describing the non-conformally-invariant part of the curvature tensor of g. In this paper, we consider the elementary symmetric functions {σ k (A g ), 1 ≤ kn} of the eigenvalues of A g with respect to g; we call σ k (A g ) the k-th Schouten curvature function. We give an isometric classification for compact locally conformally flat manifolds which satisfy the conditions: A g is semi-positive definite and σ k (A g ) is a nonzero constant for some k ∈ {2, ... , n}. If k = 2, we obtain a classification result under the weaker conditions that σ2(A g ) is a non-negative constant and (M n , g) has nonnegative Ricci curvature. The corresponding result for the case k = 1 is well known. We also give an isometric classification for complete locally conformally flat manifolds with constant scalar curvature and non-negative Ricci curvature. Summary Denote by P(x) the number of integers n≤x satisfying σ(n)≡0 (mod n), and by P 2 (x) the number of integers n ≤ x satisfying σ(n)=2n. The author proves that P(x)<x 3/4+ɛ and P 2 (x)<x (1−c)/2 for a certain c>0.  相似文献

Fix integers n, x, k such that n≥3, k>0, x≥4, (n, x)≠(3, 4) and k(n+1)<( n n+x ). Here we prove that the order x Veronese embedding ofP n is not weakly (k−1)-defective, i.e. for a general SP n such that #(S) = k+1 the projective space | I 2S (x)| of all degree t hypersurfaces ofP n singular at each point of S has dimension ( n /n+x )−1− k(n+1) (proved by Alexander and Hirschowitz) and a general F∈| I 2S (x)| has an ordinary double point at each PS and Sing (F)=S. Let {Ln(A,λ)(x)}n≥0 be the sequence of monic Laguerre matrix polynomials defined on [0, ∞) by Ln(A,λ)(x)=n!/(-λ)n∑nk=0(-λ)κ/k!(n-1)! (A I)n[(A I)k]-1 xk,where A ∈ Cr×r. It is known that {Ln(A,λ)(x)}n≥0 is orthogonal with respect to a matrix moment functional when A satisfies the spectral condition that Re(z) > - 1 for every z ∈σ(A).In this note we show that forA such that σ(A) does not contain negative integers, the Laguerre matrix polynomials Ln(A,λ) (x) are orthogonal with respect to a non-diagonal SobolevLaguerre matrix moment functional, which extends two cases: the above matrix case and the known scalar case.  相似文献

A variation in the classical Turan extrernal problem is studied. A simple graphG of ordern is said to have propertyPk if it contains a clique of sizek+1 as its subgraph. Ann-term nonincreasing nonnegative integer sequence π=(d1, d2,⋯, d2) is said to be graphic if it is the degree sequence of a simple graphG of ordern and such a graphG is referred to as a realization of π. A graphic sequence π is said to be potentiallyP k-graphic if it has a realizationG having propertyP k . The problem: determine the smallest positive even number σ(k, n) such that everyn-term graphic sequence π=(d1, d2,…, d2) without zero terms and with degree sum σ(π)=(d 1+d 2+ …+d 2) at least σ(k,n) is potentially Pk-graphic has been proved positive. LetV be a metric vector space over a fieldK, dimV=n<∞, and let δ:V×VK denote the corresponding distance function. Given a mappingσ:VV such that δ(p,q) = 1⇒ δ(p σ ,q ς) = 1, ifn=2, indV=1 and charK≠2, 3, 5, thenσ is semilinear [5], [11]; ifn≧3,K=R and the distance function is either Euclidean or Minkowskian, thenσ is linear [3], [10]. Here the following is proved: IfK=GF(p m ),p>2 andn≧3, thenσ is semilinear (up to a translation), providedn≠0, −1, −2 (modp) or the discriminant ofV satisfies a certain condition. The proof is based on the condition for a regular simplex to exist in a Galois space, which may be of interest for its own sake.  相似文献

It is shown that ifA andB are non-empty subsets of {0, 1} n (for somenεN) then |A+B|≧(|A||B|)α where α=(1/2) log2 3 here and in what follows. In particular if |A|=2 n-1 then |A+A|≧3 n-1 which anwers a question of Brown and Moran. It is also shown that if |A| = 2 n-1 then |A+A|=3 n-1 if and only if the points ofA lie on a hyperplane inn-dimensions. Necessary and sufficient conditions are also given for |A +B|=(|A||B|)α. The above results imply the following improvement of a result of Talagrand [7]: ifX andY are compact subsets ofK (the Cantor set) withm(X),m(Y)>0 then λ(X+Y)≧2(m(X)m(Y))α wherem is the usual measure onK and λ is Lebesgue measure. This also answers a question of Moran (in more precise terms) showing thatm is not concentrated on any proper Raikov system.  相似文献

For a set A, let P(A) be the set of all finite subset sums of A. We prove that if a sequence B={b 1<b 2<⋯} of integers satisfies b 1≧11 and b n+1≧3b n +5 (n=1,2,…), then there exists a sequence of positive integers A={a 1<a 2<⋯} for which P(A)=ℕ∖B. On the other hand, if a sequence B={b 1<b 2<⋯} of positive integers satisfies either b 1=10 or b 2=3b 1+4, then there is no sequence A of positive integers for which P(A)=ℕ∖B.  相似文献

Let Λ denote the linear space over ℝ spanned by z k , k∈ℤ. Define the real inner product 〈, L ×Λ→ℝ, , N∈ℕ, where V satisfies: (i) V is real analytic on ℝ∖{0}; (ii) lim  | x |→∞(V(x)/ln (x 2+1))=+∞; and (iii) lim  | x |→0(V(x)/ln (x −2+1))=+∞. Orthogonalisation of the (ordered) base with respect to 〈, L yields the even degree and odd degree orthonormal Laurent polynomials (OLPs) : φ 2n (z)=∑ k=−n n ξ k (2n) z k , ξ n (2n)>0, and φ 2n+1(z)=∑ k=−n−1 n ξ k (2n+1) z k , ξ n−1(2n+1)>0. Associated with the even degree and odd degree OLPs are the following two pairs of recurrence relations: z φ 2n (z)=c 2n φ 2n−2(z)+b 2n φ 2n−1(z)+a 2n φ 2n (z)+b 2n+1 φ 2n+1(z)+c 2n+2 φ 2n+2(z) and z φ 2n+1(z)=b 2n+1 φ 2n (z)+a 2n+1 φ 2n+1(z)+b 2n+2 φ 2n+2(z), where c 0 =b 0 =0, and c 2k >0, k∈ℕ, and z −1 φ 2n+1(z)=γ 2n+1 φ 2n−1(z)+β 2n+1 φ 2n (z)+α 2n+1 φ 2n+1(z)+β 2n+2 φ 2n+2(z)+γ 2n+3 φ 2n+3(z) and z −1 φ 2n (z)=β 2n φ 2n−1(z)+α 2n φ 2n (z)+β 2n+1 φ 2n+1(z), where β 0 =γ 1 =0, β 1 >0, and γ 2l+1 >0, l∈ℕ. Asymptotics in the double-scaling limit N,n→∞ such that N/n=1+o(1) of the coefficients of these two pairs of recurrence relations, Hankel determinant ratios associated with the real-valued, bi-infinite strong moment sequence , and the products of the (real) roots of the OLPs are obtained by formulating the even degree and odd degree OLP problems as matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems on ℝ, and then extracting the large-n behaviours by applying the non-linear steepest-descent method introduced in (Ann. Math. 137(2):295–368, [1993]) and further developed in (Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 48(3):277–337, [1995]) and (Int. Math. Res. Not. 6:285–299, [1997]).   相似文献

For fixed 1≦p<∞ theL p-semi-norms onR n are identified with positive linear functionals on the closed linear subspace ofC(R n ) spanned by the functions |<ξ, ·>| p , ξ∈R n . For every positive linear functional σ, on that space, the function Φσ:R n R given by Φσ is anL p-semi-norm and the mapping σ→Φσ is 1-1 and onto. The closed linear span of |<ξ, ·>| p , ξ∈R n is the space of all even continuous functions that are homogeneous of degreep, ifp is not an even integer and is the space of all homogeneous polynomials of degreep whenp is an even integer. This representation is used to prove that there is no finite list of norm inequalities that characterizes linear isometric embeddability, in anyL p unlessp=2. Assume thatf is an integer transcendental solution of the differential equationP n (z, f, f′)=P n−1(z, f, f′, ... f (p)), whereP n andP n−1 are polynomials in all variables, the degree ofP n with respect tof andf′ is equal ton, and the degree ofP n−1 with respect tof, f′, ... f (p) is at mostn−1. We prove that the order ρ of growth off satisfies the relation 1/2≤ρ<∞. We also prove that if ρ=1/2, then, for a certain real ν, in the domain {z: ν<argz<ν+2π}/E *, whereE * is a certain set of disks with finite sum of radii, the estimate lnf(z)=z 1/2 (β+o(1)), β∈C, holds forz=re iϕ,rr(ϕ)≥0. Furthermore, on the ray {z: argz=ν}, the following relation is true: ln‖f(re iν)‖=o(r 1/2),r→+∞,r>0, , where Δ is a certain set on the semiaxisr>0 with mes Δ<∞. “L'vivs'ka Politekhnika” University, Lvov.  Let X 1 ,X 2 ,... be independent random variables and a a positive real number. For the sake of illustration, suppose A is the event that |X i+1 +...+X j |≥a for some integers 0≤i<j<∞. For each k≥2 we upper-bound the probability that A occurs k or more times, i.e. that A occurs on k or more disjoint intervals, in terms of P(A), the probability that A occurs at least once. More generally, let X=(X 1 ,X 2 ,...)Ω=Π j ≥1Ω j be a random element in a product probability space (Ω,ℬ,P=⊗ j ≥1 P j ). We are interested in events AB that are (at most contable) unions of finite-dimensional cylinders. We term such sets sequentially searchable. Let L(A) denote the (random) number of disjoint intervals (i,j] such that the value of X (i,j] =(X i+1 ,...,X j ) ensures that XA. By definition, for sequentially searchable A, P(A)≡P(L(A)≥1)=P(𝒩−ln (P(Ac)) ≥1), where 𝒩γ denotes a Poisson random variable with some parameter γ>0. Without further assumptions we prove that, if 0<P(A)<1, then P(L(A)≥k)<P(𝒩−ln (P(Ac)) k) for all integers k≥2. An application to sums of independent Banach space random elements in l is given showing how to extend our theorem to situations having dependent components. We study the approximation of functions f(z) that are analytic in a neighborhood of zero by finite sums of the form H n (z) = H n (h, f, {λ k }; z) = Σ k=1 n λ k h(λ k z), where h is a fixed function that is analytic in the unit disk |z| < 1 and the numbers λ k (which depend on h, f, and n) are calculated by a certain algorithm. An exact value of the radius of the convergence H n (z) → f(z), n, and an order-sharp estimate for the rate of this convergence are obtained; an application to numerical analysis is given.  相似文献
