Rubber compounds are reinforced with fillers such as carbon black and silica. In general, filled rubber compounds shows smooth rheological behavior and mechanical properties. Variation in rheological behavior and mechanical properties was studied in terms of the filler composition using natural rubber compounds filled with both carbon black and silica CB/Si = 0/60, 20/40, 30/30, 40/20 and 60/0 phr (parts per hundred rubber is parts of any non-rubbery material per hundred parts of raw gum elastomer (rubbery material)). The rheological behaviour can be showed in measurement of Mooney viscosity and cure time. The Mooney viscosity of rubber compounds increase with the increasing the carbon black in the compounds. The compound filled with CB/Si of 30/30 and 60/0 showed abnormal rheological behaviour in which the cure time decreased suddenly and the increased at certain ratio during the measurement. The mechanical properties such as hardness, abrasion resistance and tensile stress at 300% elongation were studied. In the hardness and abrasion resistance measurement, the higher ratio CB/Si decrease contribution of silica, which resulting smaller of hardness value. Ratio CB/Si 40/20 gives an optimum filler blended. It is also clearly understood that higher abrasion resistance mainly due to the lower hardness value under the same condition. The tensile stress at 300% elongation of rubber compound increased with the increasing carbon black filler.  相似文献

The partial replacement of silica by high specific surface area and high structure Carbon Black (CB) N134 as secondary filler, keeping the same total filler content at 55 phr, shows a clear synergistic effect on overall performance. At low content of CB, i.e. in the range of 0–36 wt% of CB relative to total filler amount, the Payne effect and tan delta at both 0 °C and 60 °C change marginally, but thereafter gradually increase. Cure times are shortened in the presence of CB, facilitating an increase of productivity. Bound rubber content and mechanical properties show an optimum at 18 wt% of CB relative to total filler amount or at a ratio of silica/CB 45/10 phr. With regard to tire performance as indicated by the laboratory test results, the abrasion resistance, wet grip and ice traction can therefore be enhanced while maintaining the tire rolling resistance at the optimum level for this silica/CB ratio.  相似文献

In order to improve the mechanical properties of rubber-matrix composites, carboxyl-terminated hyperbranched poly (2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid) grafted carbon black (CB-g-CTHBP) was prepared, and it could be stably dispersed in water for up to 90 days. CB-g-CTHBP dispersion and natural rubber latex were blended to obtain NR/CB-g-CTHBP, and the effect of CB-g-CTHBP content on the mechanical properties of composites was discussed. The results show that the dispersibility and wettability of CB-g-CTHBP to composites are significantly improved after grafting hyperbranched polymer onto the surface. Compared with the composite filled with NR/CB, when the amount of filler is 30 phr, tensile strength, tear strength, and shore A hardness of NR/CB-g-CTHBP increase by 54.78%, 55.13%, and 20.96%, respectively. Moreover, CB-g-CTHBP could disperse more evenly in the natural rubber-matrix, and the interaction between CB-g-CTHBP and rubber-matrix could further enhance in the composite.  相似文献

The morphological structure and mechanical properties of the star‐shaped solution‐polymerized styrene‐butadiene rubber (SSBR) and organically modified nanosilica powder/star‐shaped SSBR co‐coagulated rubber (N‐SSBR) both filled with silica/carbon black (CB) were studied. The results showed that, compared with SSBR, silica powder could be mixed into N‐SSBR much more rapidly, and N‐SSBR/SiO2 nanocomposite had better filler‐dispersion and processability. N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates displayed higher glass‐transition temperature and lower peak value of internal friction loss than SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates. In the N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates, filler was dispersed in nano‐scale resulting in good mechanical properties. Composites filled with silica/CB doped filler exhibited more excellent mechanical properties than those filled with a single filler because of the better filler‐dispersion and stronger interfacial interaction with macromolecular chains. N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates exhibited preferable performance in abrasion resistance and higher bound rubber content as the blending ratio of silica to CB was 20:30. The effect of exfoliated graphite (EG) on the mechanical, tribological and dielectric properties of the silicone rubber (QM) composites has been systematically investigated and analysed. Morphological analysis of the composites helps to understand the interfacial interaction between the filler and the rubber matrix as well as wear mechanism respectively. An enhancement in the mechanical, tribological and dielectric properties was observed with an increase in filler loading and better performance was observed at 7 phr of filler loading. The improvement in performance is attributed to the better interaction between the QM chains and the EG layers as evident from the AFM and TEM analysis. It is also evident from the Kraus plot which supports the reinforcing effect of EG in QM matrix.  相似文献

Recently, carbon nanofibers have become an innovative reinforcing filler that has drawn increased attention from researchers. In this work, the reinforcement of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with carbon nanofibers (CNFs) was studied to determine the potential of carbon nanofibers as reinforcing filler in rubber technology. Furthermore, the performance of NBR compounds filled with carbon nanofibers was compared with the composites containing carbon black characterized by spherical particle type. Filler dispersion in elastomer matrix plays an essential role in polymer reinforcement, so we also analyzed the influence of dispersing agents on the performance of NBR composites. We applied several types of dispersing agents: anionic, cationic, nonionic, and ionic liquids. The fillers were characterized by dibutylphtalate absorption analysis, aggregate size, and rheological properties of filler suspensions. The vulcanization kinetics of rubber compounds, crosslink density, mechanical properties, hysteresis, and conductive properties of vulcanizates were also investigated. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy images were used to determine the filler dispersion in the elastomer matrix. The incorporation of the carbon nanofibers has a superior influence on the tensile strength of NBR compared with the samples containing carbon black. It was observed that addition of studied dispersing agents affected the performance of NBR/CNF and NBR/carbon black materials. Especially, the application of nonylphenyl poly(ethylene glycol) ether and 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate contributed to enhanced mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of NBR/CNF composites.  相似文献

Natural rubber based composites were prepared by incorporating Wood flour of two different particle size ranges (250–300 µm) and (300–425 µm) and concentrations (15 and 30 phr) into the matrix, using a Banbury® internal mixer according to a base formulation. Curing characteristics of the samples were studied. Influence of particle size and loading of filler on the properties of the composites was analyzed. Results obtained show that the addition of wood flour to natural rubber increased scorch time and curing time and caused improvement in modulus at 300% strain and in tear properties. However, it decreased tensile strength and elongation at break. The particle size range of 300–425 µm was found to offer the best overall balance of mechanical and dynamic properties (tan δ and viscous torque). Swelling behavior of the composites in toluene was also analyzed in order to determine the rubber volume fraction and crosslinking density. Composites with the bigger particle size wood flour were found to have greater crosslinking density than the ones with smaller particle size, fact that could possibly indicate a better rubber-filler interaction in the former. Major percentage of filler increased slightly this interaction. Water absorption behavior of the composites with wood flour reached a maximum of 12% w/w when 30 phr of filler were incorporated; nonetheless, particle size did not affect this property. The ageing study in presence of air at 70 °C revealed that natural rubber composites with wood flour maintained the same classification cell with temperature as the pure rubber. A compound with 30 phr of carbon black was prepared for comparative purposes. Results obtained were as expected. Scorch time decreased and higher values of modulus at 300% strain and tensile strength were achieved, due to strongest interaction between filler and elastomer.  相似文献

The effect of Alkanolamide (ALK) loading on properties on three different types of carbon black (CB)-filled rubbers (SMR-L, ENR-25, and SBR) was investigated. The ALK loadings were 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 phr. It was found that ALK gave cure enhancement, better filler dispersion and greater rubber–filler interaction. ALK also enhanced modulus, hardness, resilience and tensile strength, especially up to 5.0 phr of loading in SMR-L and SBR compounds, and at 1.0 phr in ENR-25 compound. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) proved that each optimum ALK loading exhibited the greatest matrix tearing line and surface roughness due to better rubber - filler interaction.  相似文献

The network formed by fillers has great influence on the mechanical properties of rubber materials. To understand the formation of network by carbon black, silica, and carbon black/silica mixing fillers in rubber and its influence on the properties of rubber, isoprene rubber/filler composites with different filler loadings are prepared and their micromorphology, rheological and tensile properties are investigated. It is found that the dispersion of fillers is better in rubber after cure than that in rubber before cure for all three rubber systems, and the filler size of silica is smaller than that of carbon black, but the aggregation is more severe in silica filled rubber system. In mixed filler system, the two fillers tend to aggregate separately, leading to the low modulus at small strain than that in single filler system. With the increase of the filler loading, the tensile strength increases first and then decreases, the elongation at break decreases, and the temperature rise in compression flexometer tests increases. Moreover, the temperature rise in mixed filler system is higher than that in single filler system at high filler loading. © 2022, Science Press (China). All rights reserved.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the stress–strain behavior of natural rubber reinforced with short pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) can easily be manipulated by changing the cross-link density and the amount of carbon black (CB) primary filler. This gives more manageable control of mechanical properties than is possible with conventional particulate fillers alone. This type of hybrid rubber composite displays a very sharp rise in stress at very low strains, and then the stress levels off at medium strains before turning up again at the highest strains. The composites studied here contain a fixed amount of PALF at 10 part (by weight) per hundred rubber (phr) and varying carbon black contents from 0 to 30 phr. To change the cross-link density, the amount of sulfur was varied from 2 to 4 phr. Swelling ratio results indicate that composites prepared with greater amounts of sulfur and carbon black have greater cross-link densities. Consequently, this affects the stress–strain behavior of the composites. The greater the cross-link density, the less is the strain at which the stress upturn occurs. Variations in the rate of stress increase (although not the stress itself) in the very low strain region, while dependent on fillers, are not dependent on the crosslink density. The effect of changes in crosslinking is most obvious in the high strain region. Here, the rate of stress increase becomes larger with increasing cross-link density. Hence, we demonstrate that the use of PALF filler, along with the usual carbon primary filler, provides a convenient method for the manipulation of the stress–strain relationships of the reinforced rubber. Such composites can be prepared with a controllable, wide range of mechanical behavior for specific high performance engineering applications.  相似文献

To evaluate the performance of pyrolytic carbon black (pCB), we filled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) with pCB and N330 industrial carbon black (CB). We used two ratios of pCB and N330: 1/9 and 1/1. N330 was selected because its specific surface area was close to that of pCB. The overall CB content in the mixes was 0, 30, 45 and 60 part per hundred rubber (phr). We studied the effects of types and amounts of CB on the dispersion, cure behavior, dynamic mechanical thermal behavior, tensile mechanical and fracture mechanical properties of the filled rubbers. Dispersion of pCB was poorer than that of N330 CB. With respect to tensile mechanical properties – except tear strength – N330 outperformed pCB. The tear strength and fracture mechanics characteristics (J-integral at crack tip opening, and trouser tear strength) of SBR were higher with pCB than with N330. This can be attributed to the broader dispersion of pCB than N330. The combined use of N330 and pCB resulted in intermediate values, reflecting the actual N330/pCB ratio for all measured parameters. We wanted to correlate the mechanical performance with the apparent molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc), and found reasonable correlations for the Payne effect, tensile strength and critical J-integral. On the other hand, we only found a tendency for tear characteristics; this was ascribed to additional effects of (p)CB dispersion.  相似文献

In order to achieve dramatic improvements in the performance of rubber materials, the development of carbon nanotube (CNT)‐reinforced rubber composites was attempted. The CNT/natural rubber (NR) nanocomposite was prepared through solvent mixing on the basis of pretreatment of CNTs. Thermal properties, vulcanization characteristics, and physical and mechanical properties of the CNT/NR nanocomposites were characterized in contrast to the carbon black (CB)/NR composite. Through the addition of the CNTs treated using acid bath followed by ball milling with HRH (hydrated silica, resorcinol, and hexamethylene tetramine) bonding systems, the crystallization melting peak in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves of NR weakened and the curing rate of NR slightly decreased. Meanwhile, the over‐curing reversion of CNT/NR nanocomposites was alleviated. The dispersion of the treated CNTs in the rubber matrix and interfacial bonding between them were rather good. The mechanical properties of the CNT‐reinforced NR showed a considerable increase compared to the neat NR and traditional CB/NR composite. At the same time, the CNT/NR nanocomposites exhibited better rebound resilience and dynamic compression properties. The storage modulus of the CNT/NR nanocomposites greatly exceeds that of neat NR and CB/NR composites under all temperature regions. The thermal stability of NR was also obviously improved with the addition of the treated CNTs. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effects of filler loading and a new silane coupling agent 3‐octanoylthio‐1‐ propyltriethoxysilane (NXT silane) on the polymer‐filler interaction and mechanical properties of silica‐filled and carbon black‐filled natural rubber (NR) compounds were studied. Silica (high dispersion silica7000GR, VN2, and VN3) and carbon black (N330) were used as the fillers, and the loading range was from 0 to 50 phr. The loading of NXT silane was from 0 to 6 phr. Experimental results show that the maximum and minimum torques of silica and carbon black‐filled NR increase with increasing filler loading. With increasing filler loading, the scorch time and optimum cure time decrease for carbon black‐filled NR, but increase for silica‐filled NR. The minimum torque, scorch time, and optimum cure time decrease because of the presence of NXT silane. For the carbon black and silica‐filled NR, the tensile strength and elongation at break have maximum values, but the hardness, M300, M100, and tear strength keep increasing with filler loading. The mechanical properties of silica‐filled NR were improved in the presence of NXT silane. With increasing filler loading, the storage modulus of filled NR increases, but the loss factor decreases. Carbon black shows the strongest polymer‐filler interaction, followed by VN3, 7000GR, and VN2. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 43: 573–584, 2005  相似文献

Commercially, the alteration of a rubber formulation is usually made in such a way as to keep the hardness of the rubber product constant. This is because a specific hardness of the rubber product sets the limit to its practical applications. Therefore, in this paper, natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates containing various fillers were prepared to have the same hardness level, and their mechanical properties were compared and related to the degree of filler dispersion. The results show that higher amounts of carbon black (CB) and silica are needed for CB- and silica-filled natural rubber vulcanizates to achieve the same hardness value as a NR vulcanizate containing 6 phr of montmorillonite clay. At equal loading of fillers, clay-filled vulcanizate exhibits higher modulus, hardness, tensile strength and compression set, but lower heat build-up resistance and crack growth resistance than those of the vulcanizates containing conventional fillers. For the vulcanizate having the same hardness value, CB-filled vulcanizate gives the better overall mechanical properties followed by the clay-filled and silica-filled vulcanizates, respectively. The explanation is given as the better dispersion of carbon black, as can be seen in the SEM micrograph.  相似文献

Layered silicate/natural rubber composites were prepared by direct polymer melt intercalation. Na‐montmorillonite Kunipia‐F and its organic derivates (organo‐clays) prepared by ion exchange were used as clay fillers. Silica (SiO2) Ultrasil VN3, a filler commonly used in the rubber industry, was used in combination with clay fillers. The effect of clay or organo‐clay loading from 1 up to 10 phr without (0 phr) or with silica (15 phr) showed significant improvement of the tensile properties (stress at break, strain at break and modulus M100). Modification of montmorillonite by three alkylammonium cations with the same length of alkylammonium chain (18 carbons) and different structure resulted in altered reinforcing and plasticizing effects of the filler in composites with rubber matrix. The effects of the partial replacement of silica or calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by bentonite (Bt) on the curing behaviour, tensile and dynamic mechanical properties and morphological characteristics of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) composites were studied. EPDM/silica/Bt and EPDM/CaCO3/Bt composites containing five different EPDM/filler/Bt loadings (i.e., 100/30/0, 100/25/5, 100/15/15, 100/5/25 and 100/0/30 parts per hundred rubber (phr)) were prepared using a laboratory scale two-roll mill. Results show that the optimum cure (t90) and scorch (tS2) time decreased, while the cure rate index (CRI) increased for both composites with increasing Bt loading. The tensile properties of EPDM/CaCO3/Bt composites increased with the replacement of CaCO3 by Bt from 0 to 30 phr of Bt. For EPDM/silica/Bt composites, the maximum tensile strength and Eb were obtained at a Bt loading of 15 phr, with enhanced tensile modulus on further increase of Bt loading. The dynamic mechanical studies revealed a strong rubber-filler interaction with increasing Bt loading in both composites, which is manifested by the lowering of tan δ at the glass transition temperature (Tg) for EPDM/CaCO3/Bt composites and tan δ at 40 °C for EPDM/silica/Bt composites. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs proved that incorporation of 15 phr Bt improves the dispersion of silica and enhances the interaction between silica and the EPDM matrix.  相似文献

Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) composites filled with fillers, such as modified kaolinite (MK), precipitated silica (PS), and the hybrid fillers containing MK and PS, were prepared by melt blending. The kaolinite sheets were finely dispersed in the SBR matrix around 20–80 nm in thickness and reached the nano-scale. The SBR composites with fillers exhibited excellent thermal stability compared to the pure SBR. The thermal stability of SBR composites was improved with the increasing of MK mass fraction. When MK hybridized with PS, kaolinite sheets were covered by the fine silica particles and the interface between filler particles and rubber matrix became more indistinct. SBR composite filled by hybrid fillers containing 40 phr MK and 10 phr PS became more difficult in decomposition and was better than that of 50 phr PS/SBR and 50 phr MK/SBR in thermal stability. Therefore, the hybridization of the fine silica particles with the kaolinite particles can effectively improve the thermal stability of SBR composites.  相似文献

Common nano clay fillers have layered structure. Some nano clays like Attapulgite (AT), Sepiolite have rod like fibrous structure. Compared to layered structured clay fibrous clay AT can undergo better dispersion in polymer matrix leading to better improvement in composite properties. Chemical modifications of AT are done through amine treatment as well as by amine+silane treatment to get chemically modified fillers AAT and SAT respectively. In the present investigation, nano composites are prepared using natural rubber (NR) filled with AT, AAT and SAT. Three different loadings of each filler are used namely 2.5, 5, and 10 phr (parts per hundred of rubber). Mechanical properties like tensile strength, elongation at break increase with the increase in filler loading up to 5 phr there after these properties marginally fall when loading is increased to 10 phr due to problem of filler dispersion at higher loading. However, modulus at 300% elongation and tear strength increases with the increase in filler loading up to 10 phr. Very similar trend can also be observed for composites with chemically modified fillers, AAT and SAT. But the degree of reinforcement is higher in the case of AAT and SAT compared to that of unmodified filler AT for the same filler loading. This difference is mainly due to better polymer-filler interaction and filler dispersion in the case of chemically modified clays AAT and SAT compared to unmodified AT. Tear strength of composites increases remarkably with the addition of AT and which is further enhanced when chemically modified clays AAT and SAT are added. Dynamic-mechanical analyses of different clay composites give idea about the difference in the degree of polymer–filler interaction due to chemical treatment of filler.  相似文献

Semiconductive shielding layer as an important part of high-voltage cable, its performance directly affects the safe operation and the service life of the cable. Carbon black (CB) is the main conductive filler of shielding materials, and its type and concentration directly affect the performance of the shielding layer. In this paper, CB-A with higher structure and CB-B with lower structure were used as conductive fillers and EBA was chosen as the matrix resin to prepare the shielding materials. The CB concentrations of the shielding materials were 35, 45, and 55 phr. The influences of CB type and concentration on the physicochemical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of the shielding materials were investigated. The research shows that when the CB types are the same, the higher the concentration of CB, the more intensive the CB network in the shielding material, and the more serious the CB agglomeration phenomenon. With increasing CB concentration, shielding materials show a decreasing trend of volume resistivity, an increasing trend of thermal conductivity, and a decreasing trend of mechanical properties. When the CB concentration is the equal, the CB-A has better dispersion in the matrix resin, CB-A/EBA shielding material has lower volume resistivity and weaker PTC effect, CB-A/EBA shielding material has higher thermal conductivity at low temperature and CB-B/EBA shielding material has higher thermal conductivity at high temperature, CB-A/EBA shielding material has better mechanical properties. A comprehensive comparison shows that CB-A/EBA shielding material with a concentration of 45 phr has excellent overall performance, with volume resistivity of 15.3 and 68 Ω·cm at 25°C and 90°C, respectively. The thermal conductivity is 0.434 W/(m K) at room temperature and 0.536 W/(m K) at 90°C. The stress is 31.08 MPa and the strain is 570.2%. This work has important reference for the selection of conductive fillers and performance improvement of semiconductive shielding materials.  相似文献

The present work aims to prepare thermal and oxidation resistant Natural Rubber (NR) composites using antioxidant-modified nanosilica (MNS). The thermo-oxidative aging performance of the composites was evaluated by the variations in mechanical properties after aging at 100 °C for 24 h. The performance was further monitored through Scanning Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis. NR nanocomposite with 1–7.5 phr nanosilica (NS) and 3 phr MNS were prepared and its rheological properties were studied. A comparative study of the theoretical models yielded that modified Guth-Gold equation predicted Young's modulus better than other models. Thermal stability of natural rubber MNS composite was improved by 10 °C with pre-eminent mechanical properties like tensile strength and heat build-up. A linear relationship of compression set with modulus of all composites were also established. Equilibrium swelling test revealed improved crosslink density in NR MNS composite. The strong interaction between antioxidant and nanosilica enabled low migration of antioxidant in NR MNS composite. Hence its protective function after aging showed more effective than NR NS composites. These versatile functional properties of NR MNS composite suggest its potential application in electrical, electronic and high performance rubber products.  相似文献
