We show that the recently observed spin resonance modes in heavy-fermion superconductors CeCoIn5 and CeCu2Si2 are magnetic excitons originating from superconducting quasiparticles. The wave vector Q of the resonance state leads to a powerful criterion for the symmetry and node positions of the unconventional gap function. The detailed analysis of the superconducting feedback on magnetic excitations reveals that the symmetry of the superconducting gap corresponds to a singlet d_{x;{2}-y;{2}} state symmetry in both compounds. In particular this resolves the long-standing ambiguity of the gap symmetry in CeCoIn5. We demonstrate that in both superconductors the resonance peak shows a significant dispersion away from Q which can be checked experimentally. Our analysis reveals the similar origin of the resonance peaks in the two heavy-fermion superconductors and in layered cuprates.  相似文献

We measured the specific heat and resistivity of heavy fermion CeCoIn5 between the superconducting critical field H(c2)=5 T and 9 T, with the field in the [001] direction, and at temperatures down to 50 mK. At 5 T the data show a non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior down to the lowest temperatures. At the field above 8 T the data exhibit a crossover from the Fermi liquid to a non-Fermi liquid behavior. We analyzed the scaling properties of the specific heat and compared both the resistivity and the specific heat with the predictions of a spin-fluctuation theory. Our analysis leads us to suggest that the NFL behavior is due to incipient antiferromagnetism (AFM) in CeCoIn5 with the quantum critical point in the vicinity of H(c2). Below H(c2) the AFM phase which competes with the paramagnetic ground state is superseded by the superconducting transition.  相似文献

We present a 115In NMR study of the quasi-two-dimensional heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 believed to host a Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. In the vicinity of the upper critical field and with a magnetic field applied parallel to the ab plane, the NMR spectrum exhibits a dramatic change below T*(H) which well coincides with the position of reported anomalies in specific heat and ultrasound velocity. We argue that our results provide the first microscopic evidence for the occurrence of a spatially modulated superconducting order parameter expected in a FFLO state. The NMR spectrum also implies an anomalous electronic structure of vortex cores.  相似文献

The resistivity of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 was measured as a function of temperature, down to 25 mK and in magnetic fields of up to 16 T applied perpendicular to the basal plane. With increasing field, we observe a suppression of the non-Fermi liquid behavior, rho approximately T, and the development of a Fermi liquid state, with its characteristic rho=rho(0)+AT2 dependence. The field dependence of the T2 coefficient shows critical behavior with an exponent of 1.37. This is evidence for a field-induced quantum critical point (QCP), occurring at a critical field which coincides, within experimental accuracy, with the superconducting critical field H(c2). We discuss the relation of this field-tuned QCP to a change in the magnetic state, seen as a change in magnetoresistance from positive to negative, at a crossover line that has a common border with the superconducting region below approximately 1 K.  相似文献

We report 115In nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements in CeCoIn5 at low temperature (T approximately 70 mK) as a function of the magnetic field (H0) from 2 to 13.5 T applied perpendicular to the c axis. A NMR line shift reveals that below 10 T the spin susceptibility increases as sqrt[H0]. We associate this with an increase of the density of states due to the Zeeman and Doppler-shifted quasiparticles extended outside the vortex cores in a d-wave superconductor. Above 10 T a new superconducting state is stabilized, possibly the modulated phase predicted by Fulde, Ferrell, Larkin, and Ovchinnikov. This phase is clearly identified by a strong and linear increase of the NMR shift with the field, before a jump at the first order transition to the normal state.  相似文献

Among heavy-fermion (HF) superconductors, CeCoIn 5 exhibits a record high value of T c =2.3 K at ambient pressure [1]. CeCoIn 5 belongs to a new class of HF-superconductors that crystallize in the tetragonal HoCoGa 5 -structure. This structure can be regarded as alternating layers of CeIn 3 and CoIn 2 . Bulk CeIn 3 undergoes a transition from an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state at ambient pressure ( T N =10.2 K) to a superconducting state with very low T C =0.15 K at a critical pressure p c =2.8 GPa [2] at which long range magnetic order vanishes. It is, therefore, regarded as a possible candidate for magnetically mediated superconductivity (SC). We report on measurements of the heat capacity of CeCoIn 5 at hydrostatic pressures p h 1.5 GPa. While T c increases with increasing pressure, the effective mass of the quasi-particles m eff decreases, as indicated by the ratio C / T | T c . As a working hypothesis based on theories of a nearly antiferromagnetic Fermi-liquid (NAFFL), this may be interpreted as the stabilization of the superconducting state by an increase of the characteristic spin fluctuation temperature T_{SF} (T_{SF}\propto k_F^2/m_{\rm eff}).

We present NMR data in the normal and superconducting states of CeCoIn5 for fields close to H(c2)(0)=11.8 T in the ab plane. Recent experiments identified a first-order transition from the normal to superconducting state for H>10.5 T, and a new thermodynamic phase below 290 mK within the superconducting state. We find that the Knight shifts of the In(1), In(2), and the Co are discontinuous across the first-order transition and the magnetic linewidths increase dramatically. The broadening differs for the three sites, unlike the expectation for an Abrikosov vortex lattice, and suggests the presence of static spin moments in the vortex cores. In the low-temperature and high-field phase, the broad NMR lineshapes suggest ordered local moments, rather than a long-wavelength quasiparticle spin density modulation expected for an FFLO phase.  相似文献

We report (115)In nuclear magnetic resonance measurements of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn(5) in the vicinity of the superconducting critical field H(c2) for a magnetic field applied perpendicular to the ? axis. A possible inhomogeneous superconducting state, the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state, is stabilized in this part of the phase diagram. In an 11 T applied magnetic field, we observe clear signatures of the two phase transitions: the higher temperature one to the homogeneous superconducting state and the lower temperature phase transition to a FFLO state. We find that the spin susceptibility in the putative FFLO state is significantly enhanced as compared to the value in a homogeneous superconducting state. The implications of this finding for the nature of the low temperature phase are discussed.  相似文献

We present first-principles multiband spin susceptibility calculations within the random-phase approximation for four isostructural superconducting PuCoIn{5}, PuCoGa{5}, PuRhGa{5}, and nonsuperconducting UCoGa{5} actinides. The results show that a strong peak in the spin-fluctuation dressed self-energy is present around 0.5 eV in all materials, which is mostly created by 5f electrons. These fluctuations couple to the single-particle spectrum and give rise to a peak-dip-hump feature, characteristic of the coexistence of itinerant and localized electronic states. Results are in quantitative agreement with photoemission spectra. Finally, we show that the studied actinides can be understood within the rigid-band filling approach, in which the spin-fluctuation coupling constant follows the same materials dependence as the superconducting transition temperature T{c}.  相似文献

We report low-temperature thermal expansion measurements on the tetragonal heavy-fermion superconductors CeMIn5 (M=Ir,Co) in magnetic fields up to 8 T which allow for the analysis of the uniaxial pressure effects on both normal-state and superconducting properties. Our study reveals that T(c) is strongly affected by at least two factors, the lattice anisotropy and the 4f-conduction-electron hybridization strength which is most sensitive to c-axis lattice distortions. Non-Fermi-liquid behavior caused by quantum-critical fluctuations is observed for both systems, most pronounced for CeCoIn5.  相似文献

Low-temperature specific heat in a dichalcogenide superconductor 2H-NbSe2 is measured in various magnetic fields. It is found that the specific heat can be described very well by a simple model concerning two components corresponding to vortex normal core and ambient superconducting region, separately. For calculating the specific heat outside the vortex core region, we use the Bardeen-Cooper Schrieffer (BCS) formalism under the assumption of a narrow distribution of the superconducting gaps. The field-dependent vortex core size in the mixed state of 2H-NbSe2, determined by using this model, can explain the nonlinear field dependence of specific heat coefficient γ(H), which is in good agreement with the previous experimental results and more formal calculations. With the high-temperature specific heat data, we can find that, in the multi-band superconductor 2H-NbSe2, the recovered density of states (or Fermi surface) below Tc under a magnetic field seems not to be gapped again by the charge density wave (CDW) gap, which suggests that the superconducting gap and the CDW gap may open on different Fermi surface sheets.  相似文献

Flux flow resistivity above critical temperature is analyzed based on the increased evidences that high temperature superconductors are intrinsically inhomogeneous, and local nonpercolating superconducting domains persist high above the critical temperature. It was found that above a certain field, the resistivity originated in the flow of flux motion starts to decrease with increasing field, due to the predominance of the suppression of the superconducting droplets over the increase of vortex core density.  相似文献

We report high magnetic field linear magnetostriction experiments on CeCoIn5 single crystals. Two features are remarkable: (i) a sharp discontinuity in all the crystallographic axes associated with the upper superconducting critical field B(c2) that becomes less pronounced as the temperature increases and (ii) a distinctive second orderlike feature observed only along the c axis in the high field (10 T < or approximately B< or = B(c2)) low temperature (T < or approximately 0.35 K) region. This second order transition is observed only when the magnetic field lies within 20 degrees of the ab planes and there is no signature of it above B(c2), which raises questions regarding its interpretation as a field induced magnetically ordered phase. Good agreement with previous results suggests that this anomaly is related to the transition to a possible Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov superconducting state.  相似文献

We report specific heat measurements of the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 in the vicinity of the superconducting critical field H(c2), with magnetic fields in the [110], [100], and [001] directions, and at temperatures down to 50 mK. The superconducting phase transition changes from second to first order for fields above 10 T for H parallel [110] and H parallel [100]. In the same range of magnetic fields, we observe a second specific heat anomaly within the superconducting state. We interpret this anomaly as a signature of a Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) inhomogeneous superconducting state. We obtain similar results for H parallel [001], with the FFLO state occupying a smaller part of the phase diagram.  相似文献

CeCoIn5 is a heavy fermion type-II superconductor showing clear signs of Pauli-limited superconductivity. A variety of measurements give evidence for a transition at high magnetic fields inside the superconducting state, when the field is applied either parallel to or perpendicular to the c axis. When the field is perpendicular to the c axis, antiferromagnetic order develops on the high-field side of the transition. This order remains as the field is rotated out of the basal plane, but the associated moment eventually disappears above 17°, indicating that anomalies seen with the field parallel to the c axis are not related to this magnetic order. We discuss the implications of this finding.  相似文献

We report a numerical study, supplemented by phenomenological explanations, of "energy condensation" in forced 2D turbulence in a biperiodic box. Condensation is a finite size effect which occurs after the standard inverse cascade reaches the size of the system. It leads to the emergence of a coherent vortex dipole. We show that the time growth of the dipole is self-similar, and it contains most of the injected energy, thus resulting in an energy spectrum which is markedly steeper than the standard k{-5/3} one. Once the coherent component is subtracted, however, the remaining fluctuations have a spectrum close to k{-1}. The fluctuations decay slowly as the coherent part grows.  相似文献

We observe the dynamics of a single magnetic vortex pinned by a defect in a ferromagnetic film. At low excitation amplitudes, the vortex core gyrates about its equilibrium position with a frequency that is characteristic of a single pinning site. At high amplitudes, the frequency of gyration is determined by the magnetostatic energy of the entire vortex, which is confined in a micron-scale disk. We observe a sharp transition between these two amplitude regimes that is due to depinning of the vortex core from a local defect. The distribution of pinning sites is determined by mapping fluctuations in the frequency as the vortex core is displaced by a static in-plane magnetic field.  相似文献
