A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA), were synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). ATRP of tBA was first initiated by PEG‐Br macroinitiator using CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N′″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system to give PEG‐b‐PtBA diblock copolymer. This copolymer was then used as macroinitiator to initiate ATRP of HEMA, which afforded the target triblock copolymer, PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA. The critical micelle concentrations of obtained amphiphilic triblock copolymers were determined by fluorescence spectroscopy using N‐phenyl‐1‐naphthylamine as probe. The morphology and size of formed aggregates were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Finally, an acid‐sensitive PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐P(HEMA‐CAD) prodrug via cis‐aconityl linkage between doxorubicin and hydroxyls of triblock copolymers with a high drug loading content up to 38%, was prepared to preliminarily explore the application of triblock copolymer in drug delivery. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)–poly[(R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate]–poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) triblock copolymers based on bacterial poly[(R)‐3‐hydroxybutyrate] (PHB) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. The chain architectures of the triblock copolymers were confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra. Gel permeation chromatography analysis was used to estimate the molecular weight characteristics and lengths of the PHB and poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) blocks of the copolymers. The thermal properties of the copolymers were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). TGA showed that the triblock copolymers underwent stepwise thermal degradation and had better thermal stability than their respective homopolymers, whereas DSC analyses showed that a microphase‐separation structure was formed only in the triblock copolymers with the longer PHB block. As a similar result, from wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction experimentation, the crystalline phase of PHB could not be seen evidently in the triblock copolymers with the shorter PHB block. The enzymatic hydrolysis of the copolymer films was carried at 37 °C and pH 7.4 in a potassium phosphate buffer with an extracellular PHB depolymerase from Penicillum sp. The biodegradability of the triblock copolymers increased with an increase in the PHB block content. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 4857–4869, 2005  相似文献

iPS‐b‐PDMS‐b‐iPS triblock copolymers were prepared by hydrosilylation of vinyl‐terminated isotactic polystyrenes (iPS) with α,ω‐bis(dimethylsilane)‐terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane)s (PDMS). As a function of the molecular weights of the two components, the triblock copolymer composition was varied between 9.0 and 98 wt % iPS. The resulting triblock copolymers remained soluble during block copolymer synthesis due to slow iPS crystallization in solution. At iPS content exceeding 31 wt %, the iPS crystallization was achieved by postpolymerization annealing and melt processing. The triblock copolymers melted above 200 °C with melting temperatures very similar to those of the corresponding iPS homopolymers. Nanostructure and microstructure formation of both amorphous and semicrystalline triblock copolymers were examined by means of light microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and TEM measurements. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined central functionalized asymmetric triblock copolymers (CFABC) were designed as a new type of polymer‐brush surface modifier with a short central functionalized block that could form chemical bonds with a suitable substrate surface. A combination of sequential living anionic polymerization and polymer modification reactions was used for the synthesis of two CFABCs: polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐hydroxystyrene)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (3) and polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐urethanopropyl triethoxysilylstyrene)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (4). The central block of 3, poly(4‐hydroxystyrene), was synthesized with a protected monomer, p‐[(tert‐butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]styrene, for the polymerization step, and this synthesis was followed by the hydrolysis of the silyl protecting group. To obtain polymer 4, the phenol functionality in 3 was converted to triethoxysilyl groups by a quantitative reaction with isocyanato propyl triethoxysilane. Gel permeation chromatography and NMR characterization indicated that the block copolymers possessed controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Preliminary atomic force microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of the polymer brushes were reported. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of well‐defined poly[methyl(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)siloxane]‐b‐polystyrene‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PMTFPS‐b‐PS‐b‐PtBA) triblock copolymers were prepared by a combination of anionic ring‐opening polymerization of 1,3,5‐trimethyl‐1,3,5‐tris(3′,3′,3′‐trifluoropropyl)cyclotrisiloxane (F3), and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), using the obtained α‐bromoisobutyryl‐terminal PMTFPS (PMTFPS‐Br) as the macroinitiators. The ATRP of St from PMTFPS‐Br, as well as the ATRP of tBA from the obtained PMTFPS‐b‐PS‐Br macroinitiators, has typical characteristic of controlled/living polymerization. The results of contact angle measurements for the films of PMTFPS‐b‐PS‐b‐PtBA triblock copolymers demonstrate that the compositions have an effect on the wetting behavior of the copolymer films. For the copolymer films with different compositions, there may be different macroscale or nanoscale structures on the outmost layer of the copolymer surfaces. The films with high content of PtBA blocks exhibit almost no ordered microstructures on the outmost layer of the copolymer surfaces, even though they have microphase‐separated structures in bulk. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Atom transfer radical polymerization conditions with copper(I) bromide/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (CuBr/PMDETA) as the catalyst system were employed for the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, and styrene to generate well‐defined homopolymers, diblock copolymers, and triblock copolymers. Temperature studies indicated that the polymerizations occurred smoothly in bulk at 50 °C. The kinetics of tert‐butyl acrylate polymerization under these conditions are reported. Well‐defined poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA; polydispersity index = 1.14) and poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA; polydispersity index = 1.03) homopolymers were synthesized and then used as macroinitiators for the preparation of PtBA‐b‐PMA and PMA‐b‐PtBA diblock copolymers in bulk at 50 °C or in toluene at 60 or 90 °C. In toluene, the amount of CuBr/PMDETA relative to the macroinitiator was important; at least 1 equiv of CuBr/PMDETA was required for complete initiation. Typical block lengths were composed of 100–150 repeat units per segment. A triblock copolymer, composed of PtBA‐b‐PMA‐b‐PS (PS = polystyrene), was also synthesized with a well‐defined composition and a narrow molecular weight dispersity. The tert‐butyl esters of PtBA‐b‐PMA and PtBA‐b‐PMA‐b‐PS were selectively cleaved to form the amphiphilic block copolymers PAA‐b‐PMA [PAA = poly(acrylic acid)] and PAA‐b‐PMA‐b‐PS, respectively, via reaction with anhydrous trifluoroacetic acid in dichloromethane at room temperature for 3 h. Characterization data are reported from analyses by gel permeation chromatography; infrared, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopies; differential scanning calorimetry; and matrix‐assisted, laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The assembly of the amphiphilic triblock copolymer PAA90b‐PMA80b‐PS98 within an aqueous solution, followed by conversion into stable complex nanostructures via crosslinking reactions between the hydrophilic PAA chains comprising the peripheral layers, produced mixtures of spherical and cylindrical topologies. The visualization and size determination of the resulting nanostructures were performed by atomic force microscopy, which revealed very interesting segregation phenomena. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel amphiphilic eight‐arm star triblock copolymers, star poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(acrylic acid)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)s (SPCL‐PAA‐PCL) with resorcinarene as core moiety were prepared by combination of ROP, ATRP, and “click” reaction strategy. First, the hydroxyl end groups of the predefined eight‐arm SPCLs synthesized by ROP were converted to 2‐bromoesters which permitted ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) to form star diblock copolymers: SPCL‐PtBA. Next, the bromide end groups of SPCL‐PtBA were quantitatively converted to terminal azides by NaN3, which were combined with presynthesized alkyne‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (A‐PCL) in the presence of Cu(I)/N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine in DMF to give the star triblock copolymers: SPCL‐PtBA‐PCL. 1H NMR, FTIR, and SEC analyses confirmed the expected star triblock architecture. The hydrolysis of tert‐butyl ester groups of the poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) blocks gave the amphiphilic star triblock copolymers: SPCL‐PAA‐PCL. These amphiphilic star triblock copolymers could self‐assemble into spherical micelles in aqueous solution with the particle size ranging from 20 to 60 nm. Their micellization behaviors were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solvent vapor annealing (SVA) is one route to prepare block copolymer (BCP) thin films with long‐range lateral ordering. The lattice defects in the spin‐coated BCP thin film can be effectively and rapidly reduced using SVA. The solvent evaporation after annealing was shown to have a significant impact on the in‐plane ordering of BCP microdomains. However, the effect of solvent evaporation on the out‐of‐plane defects in BCPs has not been considered. Using grazing‐incidence x‐ray scattering, the morphology evolution of lamellae‐forming poly(2‐vinlypyridine)‐b‐polystyrene‐b‐poly(2vinylpyridine) triblock copolymers, having lamellar microdomains oriented normal to substrate surface during SVA, was studied in this work. A micelle to lamellae transformation was observed during solvent uptake. The influence of solvent swelling ratio and solvent removal rate on both the in‐plane and out‐of‐plane defect density was studied. It shows that there is a trade‐off between the in‐plane and out‐of‐plane defect densities during solvent evaporation. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Controlled polystyrenes with different molar mass values were synthesized starting from benzoyl peroxide and TEMPO (2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy). The polystyrene homopolymers served as initiators for the block copolymerization of phthalimide methylstyrene (PIMS) to synthesize polystyrene‐b‐poly(PIMS) diblock copolymers. Diblock copolymers with well defined structures as well as controlled and narrow molar mass distribution were obtained from the lower‐mass polystyrene homopolymers. The lower‐mass copolymers were found to be active as initiators in the synthesis of the polystyrene‐b‐poly(PIMS)‐b‐polystyrene triblock copolymers. In each reaction step, the effects of conversion and reaction time on the molar mass characteristics of the prepared block copolymers were investigated. The diblock and triblock copolymers were modified using hydrazine as the reagent in order to obtain the corresponding functional amino block copolymers. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well‐defined amphiphilic polymethylene‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid) (PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA) triblock copolymers were synthesized via a combination of polyhomologation, ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, hydroxyl‐terminated polymethylenes (PM‐OH; Mn = 1100 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.09) were produced by polyhomologation followed by oxidation. Then, the PM‐b‐PCL (Mn = 10,000 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.27) diblock copolymers were synthesized via ROP of ε‐caprolactone using PM‐OH as macroinitiator and stannous octanoate (Sn(Oct)2) as a catalyst. Subsequently, the macroinitiator transformed from PM‐b‐PCL in high conversion initiated ATRPs of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) to construct PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PtBA triblock copolymers (Mn = 11,000–14,000 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.24–1.26). Finally, the PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA triblock copolymers were obtained via the hydrolysis of the PtBA segment in PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PtBA triblock copolymers. The chain structures of all the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Porous films of such triblock copolymers were fabricated by static breath‐figure method and observed by scanning electron microscope. The aggregates of PM‐b‐PCL‐b‐PAA triblock copolymer were studied by transmission electron microscope. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Living anionic polymerization of an acetal protected 4‐hydroxystyrene monomer, (4‐(2‐tetrahydropyranyloxy)styrene) (OTHPSt), and the chain extension of the poly(OTHPSt) anion with a variety of monomers including styrene, 4‐tert‐butylstyrene, methacryloyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MAPOSS) and hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane is demonstrated. The P(OTHPSt) homopolymer has a glass transition temperature well above room temperature, which facilitates handling and purification of the protected poly(4‐hydroxystyrene) (PHS). The resulting diblock copolymers have narrow dispersities <1.05. Chemoselective mild deprotection conditions for the P(OTHPSt) block were identified to prevent simultaneous degradation of the MAPOSS or dimethylsiloxane (DMS) block, thus allowing for the first reported synthesis of P(HS‐b‐DMS) and P(HS‐b‐MAPOSS). © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Syndiotactic copolymers with p‐methylstyrene, p‐tert‐butylstyrene and α‐methylstyrene were obtained using fluorinated half‐sandwich catalyst systems. In the presence of p‐alkylstyrenes the activities were high. The incorporation of p‐alkylstyrenes is nearly as good as it is for styrene. Molar masses increase using p‐alkylstyrene comonomers. The steric hindrance of the α‐methyl group in α‐methylstyrene results in low activities and poor incorporation rates. Since the melting points of the copolymers are lower than the melting point of the styrene homopolymer the products are easier to process. Crystalline p‐tert‐butylstyrene‐rich copolymers were obtained if appropriate crystallization procedures were carried out.  相似文献

Reverse iodine transfer polymerization (RITP), offering the appealing potential of the in situ generation of transfer agents out of molecular iodine I2, is employed in the synthesis of anionic amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(styrene) and poly(acrylic acid). Starting with well‐characterized poly(styrene) as macro‐transfer agents synthesized by RITP, diblock copolymers poly(styrene)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) of various lengths are successfully yielded in solution with a good architectural control. These blocks are then subjected to acid deprotection and subsequent pH control to give rise to anionic amphiphilic poly(styrene)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid). Besides, homopolymers of tert‐butyl acrylate are produced by RITP both in solution and in emulsion. Furthermore, a fruitful trial of the synthesis of diblock copolymers poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(styrene) is carried out through chain extension of the poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) latex as a macro‐transfer agent in seeded emulsion polymerization of styrene. Finally, the prepared block copolymer is deprotected to bring about its amphiphilic nature and a pH control caters for its anionic character. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The syntheses of triblock copolymers by the atom transfer radical polymerization of tert‐butyl and iso‐butyl acrylates as inner blocks with cyclohexyl methacrylate as outer blocks are reported. The living behavior and blocking efficiency of these polymerizations were investigated in each case. The use of difunctional macroinitiators led to ABA triblock copolymers with narrow polydispersities and controlled number‐average molecular weights. These copolymers were prepared from bromo‐terminated macroinitiators of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) and poly(iso‐butyl acrylate), with copper chloride/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as the catalytic system, at 40 °C in 50% (v/v) toluene solutions. The block copolymers were characterized with size exclusion chromatography and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements were performed to reveal the phase segregation. The glass transition of the inner block was not clearly detected, with the exception of the copolymer synthesized with the longest poly(iso‐butyl acrylate) macroinitiator length. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Using sequential RAFT polymerization, single monomer insertion, and “click” chemistry, a series of triblock copolymers, poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide), PEO‐b‐PS‐b‐PEO, were synthesized, where one of the two junction points is a UV cleavable ortho‐nitrobenzyl (ONB). Ordered patterns of PEO‐b‐PS‐b‐PEO were produced by solvent vapor annealing. Upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, the PEO‐b‐PS‐b‐PEO was converted into a mixture of a PEO homopolymer and a PS‐b‐PEO diblock copolymer. It was found that the microdomain spacing could be tuned by adjusting the UV exposure time, due to the change in the copolymer architecture and the swelling of the PEO microdomain by the PEO homopolymer produced. By selective area exposure of the PEO‐b‐PS‐b‐PEO thin films, the domain spacing was changed over selected locations across the film, generating patterns of different microdomain sizes. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel block–graft copolymers [poly(styrene‐b‐ethylene‐co‐butylene‐b‐styrene)‐g‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)] were synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) with chloromethylated poly(styrene‐b‐ethylene‐co‐butylene‐b‐styrene) (SEBS) as a macromolecular initiator. The copolymers were composed of triblock SEBS as the backbone and tBA as grafts attached to the polystyrene end blocks. The macromolecular initiator (chloromethylated SEBS) was prepared by successive hydrogenation and chloromethylation of SEBS. The degree of chloromethylation, ranging from 1.6 to 36.5 mol % according to the styrene units in SEBS, was attained with adjustments in the amount of SnCl4 and the reaction time with a slight effect on the monodispersity of the starting material (SEBS). The ATRP mechanism of the copolymerization was supported by the kinetic data and the linear increase in the molecular weights of the products with conversion. The graft density was controlled with changes in the functionality of the chloromethylated SEBS. The average length of the graft chain, ranging from a few repeat units to about two hundred, was adjusted with changes in the reaction time and alterations in the initiator/catalyst/ligand molar ratio. Incomplete initiation was detected at a low conversion; moreover, for initiators with low functionality, sluggish initiation was overcome with suitable reaction conditions. The block–graft copolymers were hydrolyzed into amphiphilic ones containing poly(acrylic acid) grafts. The aggregation behavior of the amphiphilic copolymers was studied with dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy, and the aggregates showed a variety of morphologies. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dihydroxyl capped biodegradable poly(DTC‐b‐PEG‐b‐DTC) (BCB) triblock copolymer and poly(TMC‐b‐DTC‐b‐PEG‐b‐DTC‐b‐TMC) (ABCBA) pentablock copolymer have been synthesized by PEG and BCB copolymer as macroinitiator in the presence of yttrium tris(2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methylphenolate). The copolymers without random segments have been thoroughly characterized by 1H, 13C‐NMR, SEC, and DSC. Molecular weights of the obtained copolymers are dependent on the amount of PEGs and coincide with the theoretical values. The exchange reaction of yttrium alkoxide and hydroxyl end group is essential for controlling the products' molecular weight. Their thermal behaviors are relevant to the chain lengths of PEG and PDTC segments. The Monte Carlo method has been developed to estimate the chain propagation constant and exchange reaction constant. In average, one exchange reaction will occur after approximately six monomer molecules insert into the growing chain. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of three series of double hydrophilic block copolymers (DHBCs), consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) as the neutral water soluble block and a second polyelectrolyte block of variable chemistry, is described. The synthetic scheme involves the anionic polymerization of poly(ptert‐butoxystyrene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (PtBOS‐PEO) amphiphilic block copolymer precursors followed by the acidic hydrolysis of the hydrophobic poly(ptert‐butoxystyrene) (PtBOS) block to an annealed anionic polyelectrolyte poly(p‐hydroxystyrene) (PHOS) block. The PHOS block was subsequently transformed into a high charge density annealed cationic polyelectrolyte namely poly[3,5‐bis(dimethylaminomethylene) hydroxystyrene] (NPHOS), via aminomethylation. Finally, the NPHOS block was transformed into a quenched polyelectrolyte, namely quaternized poly[3,5‐bis(dimethylaminomethylene) hydroxystyrene] (QNPHOS) block by reaction with CH3I. The solution properties of the different series of the above block polyelectrolyte copolymers have been investigated using static, dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering, turbidimetry, and fluorescence spectroscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel amphiphilic fluorinated ABC‐type triblock copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO), hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt), and hydrophobic/lipophobic poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr as a catalyst system. The bromide‐terminated diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐Br) were prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macroinitiator MeOPEO‐Br, which was obtained by the esterification of poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO) with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. A fluorinated block of poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP process to synthesize a novel ABC‐type triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA). These block copolymers were characterized by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Water contact angle measurements revealed that the polymeric coating of the triblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA) shows more hydrophobic than that of the corresponding diblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt). Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a model protein to evaluate the protein adsorption property and the triblock copolymer coating posseses excellent protein‐resistant character prior to the corresponding diblock copolymer and polydimethylsiloxane. These amphiphilic fluoropolymers can expect to have potential applications for antifouling coatings and antifouling membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology.
