The chelating resins Dowex A1 and its purified form, Chelex 100, contain the iminodiacetate functional group. The resins can exchange cations from solutions of high pH and anions from low pH solutions. Further, the iminodiacetate functional group provides chelating capability leading to special selectivity for multivalent ions such as Sb(V) and Hg(II). A systematic study of the sorption characteristics of Chelex 100 was initiated in our laboratory. Distribution coefficient values (Kd) were measured for Zn(II), Cd(II), Sn(IV), Sb(V) and Hg(II) as a function of HCl concentration and for Cu(II) and Pb(II) as a function of pH. The results obtained thus far indicate that Sb(V) and Hg(II) have high Kd values in acid chloride solutions. A radiochemical separation procedure was developed for the determination of Hg by neutron activation analysis using sorption onto Chelex 100.  相似文献

Summary Thorium antimonate has been synthesised by mixing 0.1 M Th(NO3)4 solution in 0.1 N HNO3 and 0.05 M potassium pyroantimonate and by mixing 0.1 M Th(NO3)4 solution in 0.1 N HNO3 with 0.1 M SbCl5 in 4N HCl at controlled pH. The preparative procedure, composition, I.R. spectra, chemical and thermal stability, physico-chemical properties and distribution coefficients of metal ions on thorium antimonate have been determined at pH 5.5–6.5. On the basis of distribution co-efficient values separations of Cu(II) from Mg(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Mg(II), from Zn(II) and Cd(II) and Zn(II) from Cd(II) have been achieved. Morin was successful as a chemical modifier to improve the reactivity of the nanometer SiO2 surface in terms of selective binding and extraction of heavy metal ions. This new functionalized nanometer SiO2 (nanometer SiO2-morin) was used as an effective sorbent for the solid-phase extraction (SPE) of Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II) in solutions prior to its determination by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Experimental conditions for effective adsorption of trace levels of metal ions were optimized with respect to different experimental parameters using static and dynamic procedures in detail. The pH 4.0 was chosen as the optimum pH value for the separation of metal ions on the newly sorbent. Complete elution of the adsorbed metal ions from the nanometer SiO2-morin was carried out using 2.0 mL of 0.5 mol L−1 of HCl. Common coexisting ions did not interfere with the separation and determination at pH 4.0. The maximum static adsorption capacity of the sorbent at optimum conditions was found to be 22.36, 36.8, 40.37, 33.21 and 25.99 mg metal/g SiO2-morin for Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II), respectively. The time for 95% sorption for Cu(II) and Ni(II) and 70% sorption for Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) was less than 2 min. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the method under optimum conditions was lower than 5.0% (n = 11). The procedure was validated by analyzing the certified reference river sediment material (GBW 08301, China), the results obtained were in good agreement with standard values. The nanometer SiO2-morin was successfully employed in the separation and preconcentration of trace Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) from the biological and natural water samples yielding 75-folds concentration factor.  相似文献

A new chelating resin, Xylenol Orange coated Amberlite XAD-7, was prepared and used for preconcentration of Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Ni(II) and Zn(II) prior to their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The optimum pH values for quantitative sorption of Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Ni(II) and Zn(II) are 4.5–5.0, 4.5, 4.0–5.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 5.0–7.0, respectively, and their desorptions by 2 mol L–1 HCl are instantaneous. The sorption capacity of the resin has been found to be 2.0, 2.6, 1.6, 1.6, 2.6 and 1.8 mg g–1 of resin for Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni and Zn, respectively. The tolerance limits of electrolytes, NaCl, NaF, NaI, NaNO3, Na2SO4 and of cations, Mg2+ and Ca2+ in the sorption of the six metal ions are reported. The preconcentration factor was between 50 and 200. The t1/2 values for sorption are found to be 5.3, 2.9, 3.2, 3.3, 2.5 and 2.6 min for the six metals, respectively. The recoveries are between 96.0 and 100.0% for the different metals at preconcentration limits between 10 to 40 ng mL–1. The preconcentration method has been applied to determine the six metal ions in river water samples after destroying the organic matter (if present in very large amount) with concentrated nitric acid (RSD ≤ 8%, except for Cd for which it is upto 12.6%) and cobalt content of vitamin tablets with RSD of ~ 3.0%.  相似文献

Dioctylarsinic acid (HDOAA) in chloroform solution has been investigated as a reagent for the extraction of Hg(II), Ag(I), Co(II), and Cd(II). Silver, cobalt and cadmium are not extracted below pH 7. An extraction coefficient of 1.1, constant over the pH range 1–6.5, was observed for Hg(II). With HCl concentrations of 1–8 M the extractability of mercury decreased slowly, reaching Ea0 = 0.05 at 8 M HCl. Silver formed a silver dioctylarsinate precipitate which collected at the interface. The extraction coefficients for Hg(II), Co(II) and Cd(II) increased above pH 7 to values of 20 (pH 9.1), 30 (pH 8.0), and 23 (pH 10), respectively. Reagent- and pH-dependence studies indicated that Co(II) and Cd(II) are extracted as M(DOAA)2 or M(DOAA)Cl through interaction of HDOAA with M(OH)2 or M(OH)+. Mercury was extracted from solutions of pH 1–6.5 as HgCl2 (HDOAA)2.5.  相似文献

Mechanism of adsorption of Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions at the TiO2 (anatase)/electrolyte interface has been studied by different experimental techniques (potentiometric titration, microelectrophoresis and adsorption measurements of zinc and cadmium species). It was found that the point of zero charge (pzc) of anatase (pH =5.8) was shifted to the lower pH values with increasing concentrations of Zn(II) or Cd(Il) ions. The surface charge of anatase in the presence of Zn(II) and Cd(II) for pH > pHpzc was higher than that observed for original sample in NaClO4 solutions only. Due to low coverage of anatase surface with Zn(II) or Cd(II) species almost no shift of the isoelectric point (iep) or charge reversal were observed. Adsorption density vs. pH plots for both Zn(Il) or Cd(II) showed, typical for multivalent ions, presence of “adsorption edge.”  相似文献

Ion-exchange resins, especially chelating resins are used for pre-concentration of metal ions in trace analysis as well as for radiochemical separations following neutron activation of a variety of environmental samples. As part of a systematic study of the sorption characteristics of chelating resins, sorption of Zn(II) and Cd(II) by three chelating resins were studied for various acid conditions in nitrate and chloride media. Both Zn(II) and Cd(II) showed similar behavior. Under higher acid conditions, maximum sorption occurred in 3M HCl solutions. Under low acid conditions, the sorption increased with pH. Chelex 100 gave the highest sorption among the three resins. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The influence exerted by the degree of substitution of sulfoethylated chitosan cross-linked with glutaraldehyde on the sorption of Pd(II) chloride complexes from multicomponent solutions containing Pt(IV), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II) was studied. The sorption of transition metal ions under the conditions of the experiment at pH 0.5–5.0 is virtually fully suppressed. The strongest interfering effect on the Pd(II) sorption is exerted by Pt(IV). Calculation of the selectivity coefficients KPd/Pt shows that the selectivity of the Pd(II) sorption relative to Pt(IV) increases with an increase in the degree of substitution of chitosan from 0.3 to 0.5. Integral kinetic curves of the Pd(II) sorption were obtained, and the dependences were subjected to mathematical processing using the models of diffusion and chemical kinetics. The equilibrium in the palladium(II) chloride solution–sorbent system is attained within 40 min. Pd and Pt are quantitatively desorbed from the sorbent surface under dynamic conditions with 3.5 M HCl solution.  相似文献

Amberlite XAD-2 has been functionalized by coupling it, through the ---N=N--- group, with Pyrocatechol Violet (PV), and the resulting resin has been characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and IR spectra. The resin has been used for preconcentrating Zn(II), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Ni(II) ions prior to their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The optimum pH values for quantitative sorption are 5, 5–7, 4, and 3 for Zn, Cd, Pb and Ni, respectively. The four metals can be desorbed (recovery ˜98%) with 4 M HNO3; also, 4 M HCl is equally suitable except for Zn. The sorption capacity of the resin is 1410, 1270, 620 and 1360 μg g−1 resin for Zn, Cd, Ni and Pb, respectively. The effect of F, Cl, NO3, SO42− and PO43− on the sorption of these four metal ions has been investigated. They are tolerable in the range 0.01–0.20 M, for Pb. In the sorption of Zn(II) and Ni(II), the tolerance limits of all these ions are upto 0.01 M, whereas for Cd(II), F, NO3, and PO43− have been found to be tolerable upto 0.50, 0.10 and 0.10 M, respectively. The preconcentration factors are 60, 50, 23 and 18 for Zn, Cd, Pb and Ni, respectively. Simultaneous collection and determination of the four metals are possible. Cations commonly present in drinking water do not affect the sorption of either metal ion if present at a concentration level similar to that of water. The method has been applied to determine Zn, Ni and Pb content of well-water samples (RSD ≤9%).  相似文献

5,11,17,23-Tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-25,26-dihydroxy-27,28-crown-4-calix[4]arene in the cone conformation was synthesized. This p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,2-crown-4 compound was then anchored with Merrifield chloromethylated resin beads. The modified polymeric resin was characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis and used successfully for the separation and preconcentration of Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) prior to their determination by FAAS. Effective extraction conditions were optimized in both batch and column methods. The resin exhibits good separating ability with maximum between pH 6.0-7.0 for Cu(II), pH 6.0 for Cd(II), pH 5.0 for Co(II), pH 4.0-4.5 for Ni(II), and pH 4.5 for Zn(II). The elution studies were carried out with 0.5 mol L−1 HCl for Cu(II), Co(II) and Co(II), 1.0 mol L−1 HCl for Cd(II) and Zn(II). The sorption capacity, preconcentration factor and distribution coefficient of each metal ion were determined. The detection limits were 1.10, 1.25, 1.83, 1.68 and 2.01 μg L−1 for Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II). The influence of several ions on the resin performance was also investigated. The validity of the proposed method was checked for these metal ions in NIST standard reference material 2709 (San Joaquin Soil) and 2711 (Montana Soil).  相似文献

Abstract

Application of morpholine dithiocarbamate (MDTC) coated Amberlite XAD‐4, for preconcentration of Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Ni(II) and Mn(II) by solid phase extraction and determination by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) atomic emission spectrometry (AES) was studied. The optimum pH values for quantitative sorption of Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), and Mn(II) were 6.5–8.0, 7.0–8.5, 6.0–8.5, 6.5–8.5, 7.5–9.0, and 8.0–8.5, respectively. The metals were desorbed with 2 mol L?1. The t1/2 values for sorption of metal ions were 2.6, 2.9, 2.5, 2.6, 3.0, and 3.8 min respectively for Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Ni(II) and Mn(II). The effect of diverse ions on the determination of the previously named metals was studied. Simultaneous enrichment of the six metals was accomplished, and the method was applied for use in the determination of trace metal ions in seawater samples.  相似文献

The sorption behavior of novel functionalized endoreceptors, halogen (Br, I) derivatives of [4.4]dibenzo-24-crown-8, with respect to sorption of 34 elements from 1–5 M HNO3 solurions and 29 elements from 1–5 M HCl solutions were studied. The receptors poorly extract elements from nitric acid solutions but are strong sorbents of some elements from concentrated hydrochloric acid solutions. The highest distribution ratios of elements (D, cm3/g) for sorption from 5 M HCl were observed for 4′,4″,5″[4.4]dibromodibenzo-24-crown-8: Au (D = 880) > Ga (469) > Sb (70) > Fe (55) > Sn (14.3) > Mo (10.3) > Re (2.9) > Cd (1.4) > Ge (0.61) > In (0.33) ≈ Zn (0.32) ≈ Ni (0.31) > Zr (0.29) ≈ Cr (0.28) > Sr, Tl (0.25) > Be (0.24) > Mn (0.22) ≈ La (0.21) ≈ Ba (0.20) > Ca, K, Mg, Si (< 0.1). A new way for increasing the sorption properties of dibenzocrown ethers by introducing bromine substituents into the polyether benzene rings was established. The sorption of elements from concentrated hydrochloric acid solutions follows an anion exchange mechanism by analogy with extraction of these elements.  相似文献

A very stable chelating resin matrix was synthesized by covalently linking o-vanillinthiosemicarbazone (oVTSC) with the benzene ring of the polystyrene-divinylbenzene resin Amberlite XAD-2 through a -NN- group. The resin was used successfully for the separation and preconcentration of copper(II), zinc(II) and lead(II) prior to their determination by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The total sorption capacity of the resin was 850, 1500 and 2000 mug g(-1) of the resin for Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II), respectively. For the quantitative sorption and recovery of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II), the optimum pH and eluants were pH 2.5-4.0 and 4 M HCl or 2 M HNO(3) for Cu(II), pH 5.5-6.5 and 1.0-2.0 M HCl for Zn(II) and pH 6.0-7.5 and 3 M HCl or 1 M HNO(3) for Pb(II). Both, the uptake and stripping of these metal ions were fairly rapid, indicating a better accessibility of the chelating sites. The t (1 2 ) values for Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II) were also determined. Limit of tolerance of some electrolytes like NaCl, NaF, NaNO(3), Na(2)SO(4) and Na(3)PO(4) have been reported. The preconcentration factor for Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II) was 90, 140 and 100 respectively. The method was applied for the determination of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II) in the water samples collected from Sabarmati river, Ahmedabad, India.  相似文献

The determination of trace metals in river water and ground water by DPSV is seriously disturbed by the presence of organic complexes. The influence of these substances can be eliminated by acidification of the samples with acids. Cd, Pb and Cu were determined at pH 1.1 (HNO3 medium) and Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu at pH 2 (HCl medium), in both the Nile river and ground water. Zn was determined at pH 3.5 in HCl and pH 4.5 in HNO3, after neutralizing the samples with NH3/NH4Cl buffer. Manganese could then be determined, after further addition of ammoniacal buffer solution up to pH 7.5 and 8.5. Ni and Co were determined in the adsorptive mode after formation of dimethylglyoximates at pH 9.2. The effect of pH on the stripping peaks of manganese was studied. Good agreement was observed between DPSV and AAS results for Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu and Mn, but the concentrations of Ni and Co were below the detection limits for AAS. Good agreement was obtained between DPSV results in HCl and HNO3 for Ni and Co. The results indicate that decomposition of organic complexes by acidification with HNO3 is better than in the case with HCl for Zn, Pb, Cu, Ni and Co, but HCl is better than HNO3 for Cd and Mn.  相似文献

Poly (acrylamide-acrylic acid-dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate), p(AM-AA-DMAEM) and Poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid)-ethylenediaminetetracetic acid disodium, p(AM-AA)-EDTANa2 were prepared by gamma radiation-induced template polymerization technique and used for the separation of Ga (III) from Cu (II), Ni (II), and Zn (II) in aqueous media. The effect of pH and contact time on the separation process was studied. The optimum pH value for the separation process is 3–3.5. The result shows that Ga (III) is first extracted while Cu (II), Ni (II) and Zn(II) are slightly extracted at this pH value. The recovery of metals using HCl, HNO3 and H2SO4 has been studied. The resins may be regenerated using 2M HCl solutions.   相似文献

1-Cyanoethanoyl-4-acryloyl thiosemicarbazide (CEATS) has been prepared and polymerized by a free radical mechanism. The polymer PCEATS has chelating affinity, and metal-uptake capacities were determined for the chlorides of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) in the pH range 1.04–6.0. The extraction experiments show high capacity for Cu(II), (0.26?mmol/g) at pH 5.34 and lower uptake capacities for the other divalent metal ions around pH 5 in buffered solutions, under noncompetitive conditions. However, competitive experiments, performed with solutions containing a mixture of metal chloride salts and acetate buffer, showed a high selectivity for Cu(II) and Cd(II) over other cations. Distribution coefficients determined for the polymer and the metal ions indicate that the Cu(II) complex is more stable than the Cd(II) are and suggest that the stability of the complex decreases rapidly with decreasing pH. Kinetic experiments have shown that uptake of Cu(II), is slow, with t 0.5?=?10?h. Ligand regeneration experiments for Cu(II)-loaded PCEATS performed with 2.00?M H2SO4 have shown that the capacity for Cu(II) stays at the same level after several cycles of consecutive loading and stripping, indicating that the polymer is chemically stable. ESR spectra of Cu(II)–CEATS resin show that there are two different coordination complexes present in the polymer. IR spectra of the Cu(II) complex confirms the bidentate behavior (S, O; N, O) of CEATS and PCEATS (it is supposed that the cations bridge vicinal CEATS ligands through S, O and N, O atoms); the acetate group completes the octahedral coordination. The obtained data suggest that the polymer behaves as a bidentate ligand via the thiocarbonyl, carbonyl and imide groups. PCEATS and its complexes have an inhibitory effect on both the bacterium Azotobacter and the fungus Fusarium oxysporium. The effect on the microorganisms is proportional to the amount of free ligand in the complex.  相似文献

Conditions for the preparation of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) 4-methylphthalates were investigated and their composition, solubility in water at 295 K and magnetic moments were determined. IR spectra and powder diffraction patterns of the complexes prepared with molar ratio of metal to organic ligand of 1.0:1.0 and general formula: M [ CH3C6H3(CO2)2nH2o (n=1-3) were recorded and their decomposition in air were studied. During heating the hydrated complexes are dehydrated in one (Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd) or two steps (Cu) and next the anhydrous complexes decompose to oxides directly (Cu, Zn), with intermediate formation of carbonates (Mn, Cd), oxocarbonates (Ni) or carbonate and free metal (Co). The carboxylate groups in the complexes studied are mono- and bidentate (Co, Ni), bidentate chelating and bridging (Zn) or bidentate chelating (Mn, Cu, Cd). The magnetic moments for paramagnetic complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) attain values 5.92, 5.05, 3.36 and 1.96 M.B., respectively. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The sorption of hafnium on hydrous titanium oxide (TiO2·1.94 H2O) has been studied in detail. Maximum sorption of hafnium can be achieved from a pH 7 buffer solution containing boric acid and sodium hydroxide using 50 mg of the oxide after 30 minutes shaking. The value ofk d, the rate constant of intraparticle transport for hafnium sorption, from 0.01M hydrochloric and perchloric acid and pH 7 buffer solutions has been found to be 17 mmole·g–1·min–2. The kinetics of hafnium sorption follows Lagergren equation in 0.01M HCl solution only. The values of the overall rate constantK=6.33·10–2 min–1 and of the rate constant for sorptionk 1=6.32·10–2 min–1 and desorptionk 2=2.28·10–5 min–1 have been evaluated using linear regression analysis. The value of correlation factor() is 0.9824. The influence of hafnium concentration on its sorption has been examined from 4.55·10–5 to 9.01·10–4 M from pH 7 buffer solution. The sorption data followed only the Langmuir sorption isotherm. The saturation capacity of 9.52 mmole·g–1 and of a constant related to sorption energy have been estimated to be 2917 dm3·mole–1. Among all the additional anions and cations tested only citrate ions reduce the sorption significantly. Under optimal experimental conditions selected for hafnium sorption, As(III), Sn(V), Co(II), Se(IV) and Eu(III) have shown higher sorption whereas Mn(II), Ag(I) and Sc(III) are sorbed to a lesser extent. It can be concluded that a titanium oxide bed can be used for the preconcentration and removal of hafnium and other metal ions showing higher sorption from their very dilute solutions. The oxide can also be employed for the decontamination of radioactive liquid waste and for pollution abatement studies.  相似文献

The sorption of Cd(II) from aqueous solution on γ-Al2O3 was investigated under ambient conditions. Experiments were carried out as a function of contact time, solid content, pH, ionic strength, foreign ions, fulvic acid and temperature. The results indicated that the sorption of Cd(II) was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. At low pH, the sorption of Cd(II) was dominated by outer-sphere surface complexation and ion exchange with Na+/H+ on γ-Al2O3 surfaces, whereas inner-sphere surface complexation was the main sorption mechanism at high pH. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) models were used to simulate the sorption isotherms at three different temperatures. The thermodynamic data (ΔG 0, ΔS 0, ΔH 0) calculated from the temperature dependent sorption isotherms suggested that the sorption of Cd(II) on γ-Al2O3 was an spontaneous and endothermic process.  相似文献
