Time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance studies show that the primary mechanism of triplet formation following photoexcitation of julolidine-anthracene molecules linked by a single bond and having perpendicular pi systems is a spin-orbit, charge-transfer intersystem crossing mechanism (SOCT-ISC). This mechanism depends on the degree of charge transfer from julolidine to anthracene, the dihedral angle (theta1) between their pi systems, and the magnitude of the electronic coupling between julolidine and anthracene. We compare 4-(9-anthracenyl)-julolidine with the more sterically encumbered 4-(9-anthracenyl)-3,5-dimethyljulolidine and find that fixing theta1 congruent with 90 degrees serves to enhance SOCT-ISC by increasing the change in orbital angular momentum accompanying charge transfer. Given that the requirements for the SOCT-ISC mechanism are quite general, we expect it to occur in a variety of electron donor-acceptor systems.  相似文献

Fully conjugated giant macrocyclic oligothiophenes with 60pi, 90pi,120pi, 150pi, and 180pi frames (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) have been designed, and their butyl-substituted derivatives (1a, 2a, 3a, 4a, and 5a) have been synthesized using modified Sonogashira and McMurry coupling reactions as key steps. The 60-180pi systems 1-5 are circular with 1.8-6 nm inner cavities and 3.3-7.5 nm outside molecular diameters. Compound 1a containing ten 3,4-dibutyl-2,5-thienylene, eight ethynylene, and two vinylene units has been converted into macrocyclic oligo(3,4-dibutyl-2,5-thienylene-ethynylene) 6a using bromination/dehydrobromination procedure. Giant macrocycles 1a-6a exhibit a red shift of their absorption spectra and a fairly strong fluorescence with a large Stokes shift as compared to a linear conjugated counterpart having five thiophene rings. Compounds 1a-6a exhibit multistep reversible redox behaviors with fairly low first oxidation potentials, reflecting their cyclic conjugation. Furthermore, chemical oxidation of 1a-6a with FeCl3 shows drastic changes of spectroscopic properties due to intramolecular and intermolecular pi-pi interactions. Doping of 1a-3a with iodine forms semiconductor due to its pi-donor properties and pi-pi stacking ability. X-ray analysis of 1a confirmed a round, planar structure with nanoscale inner cavity, and revealed host ability for alkanes and unique packing structure. Interestingly, 2a and 3a self-aggregate in the solid state to form "molecular wires," which are about 200 nm thick and more than 1 mm long. The internal structures of fibrous aggregates have been investigated by optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analyses.  相似文献

H(D) Rydberg atom photofragment translational spectroscopy has been used to investigate the dynamics of H(D) atom loss C6H5SH(C6H5SD) following excitation at many wavelengths lambda phot in the range of 225-290 nm. The C6H5S cofragments are formed in both their ground (X(2)B1) and first excited ((2)B2) electronic states, in a distribution of vibrational levels that spreads and shifts to higher internal energies as lambda(phot) is reduced. Excitation at lambda(phot) > 275 nm populates levels of the first (1)pi pi* state, which decay by tunnelling to the dissociative (1)pi sigma* state potential energy surface (PES). S-H torsional motion is identified as a coupling mode facilitating population transfer at the conical intersection (CI) between the diabatic (1)pi pi* and (1)pi sigma* PESs. At shorter lambda(phot), the (1)pi sigma* state is deduced to be populated either directly or by efficient vibronic coupling from higher (1)pipi* states. Flux evolving on the (1)pi sigma* PES samples a second CI, at longer R(S-H), between the diabatic (1)pi sigma* and ground ((1)pi pi) PESs, where the electronic branching between ground and excited state C6H5S fragments is determined. The C6H5S(X(2)B1) and C6H5S((2)B2) products are deduced to be formed in levels with, respectively, a' and a' vibrational symmetry-behavior that reflects both Franck-Condon effects (both in the initial photoexcitation step and in the subsequent in-plane forces acting during dissociation) and the effects of the out-of-plane coupling mode(s), nu11 and nu16a, at the (1)pi sigma*/(1)pi pi CI. The vibrational state assignments enabled by the high-energy resolution of the present data allow new and improved estimations of the bond dissociation energies, D0(C6H5S-H) < or = 28,030 +/- 100 cm(-1) and D0(C6H5S-D) < or = 28,610 +/- 100 cm(-1), and of the energy separation between the X(2)B1 and (2)B2 states of the C6H5S radical, T(00) = 2800 +/- 40 cm(-1). Similarities, and differences, between the measured energy disposals accompanying UV photoinduced X-H (X = S, O) bond fission in thiophenol and phenol are discussed.  相似文献

Three-state conical intersections have been located and characterized for cytosine and its analog 5-methyl-2-pyrimidinone using multireference configuration-interaction ab initio methods. The potential energy surfaces for each base contain three different three-state intersections: two different S(0)-S(1)-S(2) intersections (gs/pi pi(*)/n(N)pi(*) and gs/pi pi(*)/n(O)pi(*)) and an S(1)-S(2)-S(3) intersection (pi pi(*)/n(N)pi(*)/n(O)pi(*)). Two-state seam paths from these intersections are shown to be connected to previously reported two-state conical intersections. Nonadiabatic coupling terms have been calculated, and the effects of the proximal third state on these quantities are detailed. In particular, it is shown that when one of these loops incorporates more than one seam point, there is a profound and predictable effect on the phase of the nonadiabatic coupling terms, and as such provides a diagnostic for the presence and location of additional seams. In addition, it is shown that each of the three three-state conical intersections located on cytosine and 5-methyl-2-pyrimidinone is qualitatively similar between the two bases in terms of energies and character, implying that, like with the stationary points and two-state conical intersections previously reported for these two bases, there is an underlying pattern of energy surfaces for 2-pyrimidinone bases, in general, and this pattern also includes three-state conical intersections.  相似文献

Electronic absorption spectra of 2,7,12,17-tetra-tert-butylporphycene (TTPC) have been recorded in low-temperature argon and xenon matrices for various deposition conditions. In the region of the S(0)-S(1) electronic transition, the spectra of TTPC in argon reveal a rich site structure, characterized by a series of more than 30 absorption peaks. Studies of the temperature dependence of the electronic spectra in solid argon demonstrated remarkable spectral changes, resulting in the broadening of all bands with increasing temperature. These temperature-induced spectral changes are, to a large degree, reversible, so lowering of temperature is accompanied by the recovery of the original fine-line spectrum. The absorption spectra in xenon reveal broad bands, on which a rich pattern of lines becomes superimposed at low temperatures. Trapping site distribution and the structure of the microenvironment around the TTPC chromophore, embedded in argon and xenon hosts, have been analyzed using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The MD results show that the trapping of TTPC in rare-gas solids is influenced by favorable embedding of the bulky tert-butyl groups inside the matrix cage. The crucial role of the tert-butyl groups for the thermodynamics and kinetics of matrix deposition is demonstrated by comparing the results with those obtained for the parent, unsubstituted porphycene.  相似文献

The role played by the carbonyl group in the antenna system of a naturally occurring photochromic chromene, flindersine (FL), has been experimentally investigated and compared with that of a carbonyl group present in a structurally related unreactive heterocyclic compound, 6(5H)-phenanthridinone (PH). Through stationary and time-resolved absorption and emission techniques, the excited-state relaxation dynamics after UV irradiation were determined for FL and PH. The presence of a carbonyl group in both compounds entails the existence of two close-lying, strongly coupled electronic excited states, having n,pi* and pi,pi* character, respectively. Their coupling can be modulated by a careful choice of the solvent proticity and temperature. Moreover, in the case of strong coupling between the n,pi* and pi,pi* states, we have proved that the relaxation dynamics can involve transitions in which the upper of the coupled states acts as an intermediate for radiationless decay, bypassing the lowest emissive state, whereby the fluorescence quantum yield becomes a function of the excitation wavelength.  相似文献

Electronic magnetic circular dichroism and absorption spectra are reported for the A 3pi(i) <-- X 3sigma- transitions of phosphinidene (PH) isolated in Ar, Kr, and Xe matrices at cryogenic temperatures (approximately 1.4-20 K) and over a range of magnetic field strengths (0-5 T). The results are analyzed by the method of moments, and parameters are extracted by fitting the experimental data to a model in which the A 3pi(i) term is split by spin-orbit (SO) coupling interactions, while the X 3sigma- term is split by spin-spin and higher-order SO coupling. The analysis indicates that, unlike the equivalent imidogen (NH) systems, ground-state PH radicals isolated in noble-gas matrices do not behave as free rotors. Trends in excited-state SO coupling constants are attributed to the external heavy-atom effect and guest-host orbital mixing. It is tentatively concluded that librational amplitudes of the guest radical decrease in the order Ar > Xe > Kr, probably as a consequence of competition between stronger guest-host interactions and larger matrix sites in heavier hosts.  相似文献

Calculations on members of the oligo(cyclohexylidene) series [(n), n = 1-5)] and related tetrahydro-4H-thiopyran end-capped analogues [(n), n = 1-4)] show a strong through-bond coupling between their pi bonds and sulfur lone pairs (Lp(pi)S). This coupling is mediated by an interaction between the H(ax)-C-C-H(ax) structural sub-units and the pi bonds connecting the cyclohexyl moieties. A comparison of the length dependency of the through-bond coupling via an oligo(cyclohexylidene) and an alkane bridge [divinyl alkanes (n)] shows that oligo(cyclohexylidenes) are more efficient in mediating through-bond couplings over large distances. Oligo(cyclohexylidene) bridges exhibit molecular wire characteristics.  相似文献

The through-space J(HH) and J(CH) spin-spin coupling constants of model van der Waals dimers (involving methane, ethylene, and benzene), and of selected compounds showing the CH/pi interaction, have been investigated by means of DFT and ab initio calculations. In the range of intermolecular separations for which the interaction is stabilizing, weak couplings (0.1-0.3 Hz) are predicted for J(CH), while the corresponding J(HH) couplings are much smaller. The relative contributions (Fermi-contact, spin-orbit, and spin-dipole) are strongly dependent on the geometry of the dimers and on the distance; the non-negligible values of J(CH) for pi systems stem largely from an incomplete cancellation of spin-orbit terms. The results obtained for the larger molecules, that is, acetonitrile@calix[4]arene 5, the imine 6, and the aryl ester 7 are consistent with those on the model dimers. For 7, the occurrence of a through-space mechanism for the transmission of coupling is established by examining trends in the magnitude of couplings as a function of the number of intervening covalent bonds.  相似文献

DFT studies on oligocyclopropenones and related systems 5(n)-9(n) are reported. A strong sigma/pi interaction between the pi system and the sigma framework of the three-membered rings is observed in almost all cases, leading to a perpendicular arrangement of the pi systems in the most favored conformation. Also the shape of cyclic congeners is strongly influenced by sigma/pi interactions.  相似文献

The chloroiron corrolates of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octamethyl- and 7,13-dimethyl-2,3,8,12,17,18-hexaethylcorrole ([(Me8C)FeCl] and [(7,13-Me2Et6C)FeCl], respectively) and their bisimidazole complexes have been investigated by NMR spectroscopy as a function of temperature, and by EPR spectroscopy at 4.2 K. Magnetic susceptibilities were measured by the modified Evans method. It is found that the electron configuration of the chloroiron corrolates is that of a S = 3/2 Fe(III) center coupled to a corrolate pi radical, where one electron has been removed from the pi system of the corrolate. This pi radical is antiferromagnetically coupled to the unpaired electrons of the iron to yield an overall S = 1 complex, as evidenced by the very large positive shifts of the meso-H resonances (183 and 172 ppm). That this antiferromagnetic coupling is very strong is supported by the near-Curie behavior of the 1H chemical shifts. For the chloroiron corrolates in the presence of imidazole, imidazole-d4, and N-methylimidazole at temperatures of -50 degrees C and below, the mono- and bisligand complexes are formed. The NMR spectra can be assigned on the basis of chemical exchange between the chloroiron(III) parent complex and the bisligand complex at -30 degrees C, and between the bisligand complex and the monoligand complex at -50 degrees C. The bisimidazole complexes show pyrrole CH2 and CH3 resonances characteristic of low-spin Fe(III) centers (S = 1/2), but with strongly upfield-shifted meso-H resonances (delta values of -95 and -82.5 ppm for the octamethyl complex and -188 and -161 ppm for the dimethylhexaethyl complex at 203 K) characteristic of the presence of a macrocycle-centered unpaired electron. The magnetic moments of these bisligand complexes are somewhat lower than expected for overall S = 1 systems, and decrease as the temperature is lowered. The lower apparent magnetic moments (2.0-1.8 mu B between -50 and -90 degrees C) are believed to be caused by a combination of weak or no magnetic coupling between the metal and macrocycle electrons and decreasing solubility of the complex as the temperature is lowered. The non-Curie behavior of the 1H chemical shifts observed in the low-temperature (-50 to -90 degrees C) NMR spectra likely arises from a combination of the effects of weak antiferromagnetic coupling of metal and macrocycle spins, a low-lying electronic excited state, and ligand binding/loss equilibria at the highest temperatures studied (-50 degrees C).  相似文献

A systematic study of the novel charge-transfer [(f)14-(pi)0-(f)14 --> (f)13-(pi)2-(f)13] electronic state found in 2:1 metal-to-ligand adducts of the type [(Cp)2Yb](BL)[Yb(Cp)2] [BL = tetra(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (tppz) (1), 6',6' '-bis(2-pyridyl)-2,2':4',4':2',2'-quaterpyridine (qtp) (2), 1,4-di(terpyridyl)-benzene (dtb) (3), Cp = (C5Me5)] has been conducted with the aim of determining the effects of increased Yb-Yb separation on the magnetic and electronic properties of these materials. The neutral [(f)13-(pi)2-(f)13], cationic [(f)13-(pi)1-(f)13] and dicationic [(f)13-(pi)0-(f)13] states of these complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis-NIR electronic absorption spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The spectroscopic and magnetic data for the neutral bimetallic complexes is consistent with an [(f)13(pi)2(f)13] ground-state electronic configuration in which each ytterbocene fragment donates one electron to give a singlet dianionic bridging ligand with two paramagnetic Yb(III) centers. The voltammetric data demonstrate that the electronic interaction in the neutral molecular wires 1-3, as manifested in the separation between successive metal reduction waves, is large compared to analogous transition metal systems. Electronic spectra for the neutral and monocationic bimetallic species are dominated by pi-pi and pi-pi transitions, masking the f-f bands that are expected to best reflect the electronic metal-metal interactions. However, these metal-localized transitions are observed when the electrons are removed from the bridging ligand via chemical oxidation to yield the dicationic species, and they suggest very little electronic interaction between metal centers in the absence of pi electrons on the bridging ligands. Analysis of the magnetic data reveals that the qtp complex displays antiferromagnetic coupling of the type Yb(alpha)(alphabeta)Yb(beta) at approximately 13 K.  相似文献

Exchange coupling across the cyanide bridge in a series of novel cyanometalate complexes with CuII-NC-MIII (M = Cr and low-spin Mn, Fe) fragments has been studied using the broken-symmetry DFT approach and an empirical model, which allows us to relate the exchange coupling constant with sigma-, pi-, and pi*-type spin densities of the CN- bridging ligand. Ferromagnetic exchange is found to be dominated by pi-delocalization via the CN- pi pathway, whereas spin polarization with participation of sigma orbitals (in examples, where the dz2 orbital of MIII is empty) and pi* orbitals of CN- yields negative spin occupations in these orbitals, and reduces the CuII-MIII exchange coupling constant. When the dz2 orbital of MIII is singly occupied, an additional positive spin density appears in the sigma(CN) orbital and leads to an increase of the ferromagnetic Cu-NC-M exchange constant. For low-spin [MIII(CN)6]3- complexes, the dz2 orbital occupancy results in high-spin metastable excited states, and this offers interesting aspects for applications in the area of molecular photomagnetism. The DFT values of the exchange coupling parameters resulting from different occupations of the t2g orbitals of low-spin (t2g5) FeIII are used to discuss the effect of spin-orbit coupling on the isotropic and anisotropic exchange coupling in linear Cu-NC-Fe pairs.  相似文献

Spectroscopic and electrochemical characterizations of ferrocene- and biferrocene-functionalized terpyridine octanethiolate monolayer-protected clusters were investigated and reported. The electrochemical measurements of Ru2+ coordinated with 4'-ferrocenyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine and 4'-biferrocenyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine complexes were dominated by the Ru2+/Ru3+ redox couple (E(1/2) at approximately 1.3 V), Fe(2+)/Fe(3+) redox couples (E(1/2) from approximately 0.6 to approximately 0.9 V), and terpy/terpy-/terpy2- redox couples (E(1/)(2) at ca. -1.2 and ca. -1.4 V). The substantial appreciable variations detected in the Ru2+/Ru3+ and Fe2+/Fe3+ oxidation potentials indicate that there is an interaction between the Ru2+ and Fe2+ metal centers. The coordination of the Ru2+ metal center with 4'-ferrocenyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine and 4'-biferrocenyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine leads to an intense 1[(d(pi)Fe)6] --> 1[d(pi)Fe)5(pi*terpyRu)1] transition in the visible region. The 1[(d(pi)Fe)6] -->1[d(pi)Fe)5(pi*terpyRu)1] transition observed at approximately 510 nm revealed that there was a qualitative electronic coupling between metal centers. The coordination of the Ru2+ transition metal center lowers the energy of the pi*terpy orbitals, causing this transition.  相似文献

Theoretical examination [B3LYP/6-31G(d,p), PP/IGLO-III//B3LYP/6-31G(d,p), and NBO methods] of six-membered cyclohexane 1 and carbonyl-, thiocarbonyl-, or methylidene-containing derivatives 2-27 afforded precise structural (in particular, C-H bond distances) and spectroscopic (specifically, one-bond (1)J(C)(-)(H) NMR coupling constants) data that show the consequences of stereoelectronic hyperconjugative effects in these systems. Major observations include the following. (1) sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() -->(C)(=)(Y) and pi(C)(=)(Y) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() (Y = O, S, or CH(2)) hyperconjugation leads to a shortening (strengthening) of the equatorial C-H bonds adjacent to the pi group. This effect is reflected in smaller (1)J(C)(-)(H)(ax)() coupling constants relative to (1)J(C)(-)(H)(eq)(). (2) Comparison of the structural and spectroscopic consequences of sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() --> pi(C)(=)(Y) hyperconjugation in cyclohexanone 2, thiocyclohexanone 3, and methylenecyclohexane 4 suggests a relative order of acceptor orbital ability C=S > C=O > C=CH(2), which is in line with available pK(a) data. (3) Analysis of the structural and spectroscopic data gathered for heterocyclic derivatives 5-12 reveals some additivity of sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() --> pi(C)(=)(Y), pi(C)(=)(Y) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)(), n(X) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)(), n(beta)(O) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(eq)(), and sigma(S)(-)(C) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(eq)() stereoelectronic effects that is, nevertheless, attenuated by saturation effects. (4) Modulation of the C=Y acceptor character of the exocyclic pigroup by conjugation with alpha-heteroatoms O, N, and S in lactones, lactams, and methylidenic analogues 13-24 results in decreased sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() --> pi(C)(=)(Y) and pi(C)(=)(Y) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() hyperconjugation. (5) Additivity of sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() --> pi(C)(=)(Y) and pi(C)(=)(Y) --> sigma(C)(-)(H)(ax)() hyperconjugative effects is also apparent in 1,3-dicarbonyl derivative 25 (C=Y equal to C=O), 1,3-dithiocarbonyl derivative 26 (C=Y equal to C=S), and 1,3-dimethylidenic analogue 27 (C=Y equal to C=CH(2)).  相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a prospective means to realize quantum computers. The performance of a NMR quantum computer depends sensitively on the properties of the NMR-active molecule used, where one requirement is a large indirect spin-spin coupling over large distances. F-F spin-spin coupling constants (SSCCs) for fluorinated polyenes F-(CH==CH)n-F (n=1cdots, three dots, centered5) are >9 Hz across distances of more than 10 A. Analysis of the F,F spin-spin coupling mechanism with our recently developed decomposition of J into Orbital Contributions with the help of Orbital Currents and Partial Spin Polarization (J-OCOC-PSP=J-OC-PSP) method reveals that coupling is dominated by the spin-dipole (SD) term due to an interplay between the pi lone-pair orbitals at the F atoms and the pi(C2n) electron system. From our investigations we conclude that SD-dominated SSCCs should occur commonly in molecules with a contiguous pi-electron system between the two coupling nuclei and that a large SD coupling generally is the most prospective way to provide large long-range spin-spin coupling. Our results give guidelines for the design of suitable active molecules for NMR quantum computers.  相似文献

To systematically explore the influence of the bulky aromatic ring skeleton with a large conjugated pi-system on the structures and properties of their complexes, six CuII, CoII, and NiII complexes with the anthracene-based carboxylic ligand anthracene-9-carboxylic acid (HL1), were synthesized and characterized, sometimes incorporating different auxiliary ligands: [Cu2(L1)4(CH3OH)2](CH3OH) (1), [Cu4(L1)6(L2)4](NO3)2(H2O)2 (2), {[Cu2(L1)4(L3)](CH3OH)0.25}infinity (3), [Co2(L1)4(L4)2(micro-H2O)](CH3OH) (4), {[Co(L1)2(L5)(CH3OH)2]}infinity (5), and {[Ni(L1)2(L5)(CH3OH)2]}infinity (6) (L2 = 2,2'-bipyridine, L3 = 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, L4 = 1,10-phenanthroline, and L5 = 4,4'-bipyridine). 1 has a dinuclear structure that is further assembled to form a one-dimensional (1D) chain and then a two-dimensional (2D) network by the C-H...O H-bonding and pi...pi stacking interactions jointly. 2 takes a tetranuclear structure due to the existence of the chelating L2 ligand. 3 possesses a 1D chain structure by incorporating the related auxiliary ligand L3, which is further interlinked via interchain pi...pi stacking, resulting in a three-dimensional (3D) network. 4 also has a dinuclear structure and then forms a higher-dimensional supramolecular network through intermolecular pi...pi stacking and/or C-H...pi interactions. 5 and 6 are isostructural complexes, except they involve different metal ions, showing 1D chain structures, which are also assembled into 2D networks from the different crystallographic directions by interchain pi...pi stacking and C-H...pi interactions, respectively. The results reveal that the steric bulk of the anthracene ring in HL1 plays an important role in the formation of 1-6. The magnetic properties of the complexes were investigated, and the very long intermetallic distances result in weak magnetic coupling, with the exception of 1 and 3, which adopt the typical paddle-wheel structure of copper acetate and are thus strongly coupled.  相似文献

The theory of the J-OC-PSP (decomposition of J into orbital contributions using orbital currents and partial spin polarization) method is derived to distinguish between the role of active, passive, and frozen orbitals on the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spin-spin coupling mechanism. Application of J-OC-PSP to the NMR spin-spin coupling constants of ethylene, which are calculated using coupled perturbed density functional theory in connection with the B3LYP hybrid functional and a [7s,6p,2d/4s,2p] basis set, reveal that the well-known pi mechanism for Fermi contact (FC) spin coupling is based on passive pi orbital contributions. The pi orbitals contribute to the spin polarization of the sigma orbitals at the coupling nuclei by mediating spin information between sigma orbitals (spin-transport mechanism) or by increasing the spin information of a sigma orbital by an echo effect. The calculated FC(pi) value of the SSCC (1)J(CC) of ethylene is 4.5 Hz and by this clearly smaller than previously assumed.  相似文献

Trains of spin echoes are normally modulated by homonuclear scalar couplings. It has long been known that echo modulations are quenched when the pulse-repetition rates are much larger than the offsets of the coupling partners, because the spin systems behave as if they consisted of magnetically equivalent spins when the offsets are suppressed. This type of quenching of the echo modulations can occur when the radio-frequency (RF) pulses are ideal, that is, when they are perfectly homogeneous, properly calibrated to induce rotations through an angle, pi, and have an RF amplitude, omega(1)=-gammaB(1), that is strong compared to the largest offset, Omega(S)=omega(0S)-omega(RF), with respect to the carrier frequency. Recently, it was discovered that echo modulations can also be quenched when the RF pulses are nonideal, that is, when they are too weak to bring about an ideal rotation of the magnetization of the coupling partners, so that the effective fields associated with the RF pulses are tilted in the rotating frame. This phenomenon typically occurs when the pulse-repetition rates are much slower than the offset of the coupling partner. Under such conditions, it turns out, however, that for certain offsets, when the phase, Phi(S) (which arises from a free precession of the magnetization of the coupling partner, S, in the pulse interval, 2tau, and the pulse length, tau(pi)), approaches a multiple of 2pi, the echo modulations are restored. However, the frequencies of these echo modulations are not simply determined by the homonuclear scalar coupling, J(IS). The Fourier transforms of the echo trains (the so-called "J spectra") reveal surprising multiplet patterns, and the amplitudes of the echo modulations depend on the offsets of the coupling partners. Herein, we present a unified theory, based on an average-Hamiltonian approach, to describe these effects for two-spin systems. Experimental evidence of echo modulations in a system of two spins is presented. Experiments with three and more spins, backed up by extensive numerical simulations, will be presented elsewhere.  相似文献

Current-density maps were calculated by the ipsocentric CTOCD-DZ/6-311G** (CTOCD-DZ=continuous transformation of origin of current density-diamagnetic zero) approach for three sets of inorganic monocycles: S(4) (2+), Se(4) (2+), S(2)N(2), P(5) (-) and As(5) (-) with 6 pi electrons; S(3)N(3) (-), S(4)N(3) (+) and S(4)N(4) (2+) with 10 pi electrons; and S(5)N(5) (+) with 14 pi electrons. Ipsocentric orbital analysis was used to partition the currents into contributions from small groups of active electrons and to interpret the contributions in terms of symmetry- and energy-based selection rules. All nine systems were found to support diatropic pi currents, reinforced by sigma circulations in P(5) (-), As(5) (-), S(3)N(3) (-), S(4)N(3) (+), S(4)N(4) (2+) and S(5)N(5) (+), but opposed by them in S(4) (2+), Se(4) (2+) and S(2)N(2). The opposition of pi and sigma effects in the four-membered rings is compatible with height profiles of calculated NICS (nucleus-independent chemical shifts).  相似文献
