In this paper, different heuristics are devised to solve a multi-period capacity expansion problem for a local access telecommunications network with a tree topology. This expansion is done by installing concentrators at the nodes and cables on the links of the network. The goal is to find a least cost capacity expansion strategy over a number of periods to satisfy the demand. A local search heuristic is first proposed to improve previously reported results on problem instances based on different cost and demand structures. This heuristic is then integrated into a genetic algorithm to obtain further improvements.  相似文献

This paper deals with a physical access network design problem of fiber-to-the-home passive optical network (FTTH-PON). The design of FTTH-PON access network seeks the cost effective location of optical splitters that provide optical connectivity from central office to subscribers in a given service area. We formulate the problem as a multi-level capacitated facility location problem on a tree topology with nonlinear link cost. Dealing with the nonlinear link cost, we propose an objective function relaxation approach to obtain tight upper and lower bounds. We develop valid inequalities that enhance the lower bound and propose a local search heuristic procedure that improves the upper bound. Valid inequalities force integrality condition on the number of splitters placed at nodes. Local search heuristic improves the initial greedy solution by placing splitters on the sub-root nodes of a given tree network. Computational results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution procedures.  相似文献

This work considers the problem of the optimal design of an hydrogen transmission network. This design problem includes the topology determination and the pipelines dimensioning problem. We define a local search method that simultaneously looks for the least cost topology of the network and for the optimal diameter of each pipe. These two problems were generally solved separately these last years. The application to the case of development of future hydrogen pipeline networks in France has been conducted at the local, regional and national levels. We compare the proposed approach with another using Tabu search heuristic.  相似文献

研究了广泛存在于物流作业中一类新型的装箱问题,主要特征体现在箱子使用费用是关于装载率的凹函数。为求解问题,提出了一种基于分组编码策略的改进差分进化算法,以避免常规实数和整数编码方法存在放大搜索空间的不足。针对分组编码策略,定制化设计了以促进优秀基因传播为导向的新型变异和交叉操作,另外还嵌入了以物品置换为邻域的自适应局部搜索操作以增强局部搜索能力。对以往文献给出算例在不同凹费用函数下进行测试,实验结果显示所提出的算法明显优于BFD启发式算法,并且较遗传算法也有显著性改进。  相似文献

This paper addresses the design of communication networks that has a large application area. The problem is to design a minimum cost network subject to a given reliability level. Complexity of the problem is twofold: (1) finding a minimum-cost network topology that every pair of nodes can communicate with each other and (2) computing overall reliability to provide the reliability constraint. Over the last two decades, metaheuristic algorithms have been widely applied to solve this problem due to its NP-hardness. In this study, a self-tuning heuristic (STH), which is a new approach free from parameter tuning, is applied to the design of communication networks. Extensive computational results confirm that STH generates superior solutions to the problem in comparison to some well-known local search metaheuristics, and also more sophisticated metaheuristics proposed in the literature. The practical advantage of STH lies in both its effectiveness and simplicity in application to the design problem.  相似文献

Traditionally, minimum cost transshipment problems have been simplified as linear cost problems, which are not practical in real applications. Some advanced local search algorithms have been developed to solve concave cost bipartite network problems. These have been found to be more effective than the traditional linear approximation methods and local search methods. Recently, a genetic algorithm and an ant colony system algorithm were employed to develop two global search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. These two global search algorithms were found to be more effective than the advanced local search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. Although the particle swarm optimization algorithm has been used to obtain good results in many applications, to the best of our knowledge, it has not yet been applied in minimum concave cost network flow problems. Thus, in this study, we employ an arc-based particle swarm optimization algorithm, coupled with some genetic algorithm and threshold accepting method techniques, as well as concave cost network heuristics, to develop a hybrid global search algorithm for efficiently solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by solving several randomly generated network flow problems. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm is more effective than several other recently designed methods, such as local search algorithms, genetic algorithms and ant colony system algorithms, for solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs.  相似文献

We present algorithms for the single-source uncapacitated version of the minimum concave cost network flow problem. Each algorithm exploits the fact that an extreme feasible solution corresponds to a sub-tree of the original network. A global search heuristic based on random extreme feasible initial solutions and local search is developed. The algorithm is used to evaluate the complexity of the randomly generated test problems. An exact global search algorithm is developed, based on enumerative search of rooted subtrees. This exact technique is extended to bound the search based on cost properties and linear underestimation. The technique is accelerated by exploiting the network structure.  相似文献

This paper presents a metaheuristic method for optimizing transit networks, including route network design, vehicle headway, and timetable assignment. Given information on transit demand, the street network of the transit service area, and total fleet size, the goal is to identify a transit network that minimizes a passenger cost function. Transit network optimization is a complex combinatorial problem due to huge search spaces of route network, vehicle headways, and timetables. The methodology described in this paper includes a representation of transit network variable search spaces (route network, headway, and timetable); a user cost function based on passenger random arrival times, route network, vehicle headways, and timetables; and a metaheuristic search scheme that combines simulated annealing, tabu, and greedy search methods. This methodology has been tested with problems reported in the existing literature, and applied to a large-scale realistic network optimization problem. The results show that the methodology is capable of producing improved solutions to large-scale transit network design problems in reasonable amounts of time and computing resources.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop new heuristic procedures for the maximum diversity problem (MDP). This NP-hard problem has a significant number of practical applications such as environmental balance, telecommunication services or genetic engineering. The proposed algorithm is based on the tabu search methodology and incorporates memory structures for both construction and improvement. Although proposed in seminal tabu search papers, memory-based constructions have often been implemented in naïve ways that disregard important elements of the fundamental tabu search proposals. We will compare our tabu search construction with a memory-less design and with previous algorithms recently developed for this problem. The constructive method can be coupled with a local search procedure or a short-term tabu search for improved outcomes. Extensive computational experiments with medium and large instances show that the proposed procedure outperforms the best heuristics reported in the literature within short computational times.  相似文献

In this paper, we address uncapacitated network design problems characterised by uncertainty in the input data. Network design choices have a determinant impact on the effectiveness of the system. Design decisions are frequently made with a great degree of uncertainty about the conditions under which the system will be required to operate. Instead of finding optimal designs for a given future scenario, designers often search for network configurations that are “good” for a variety of likely future scenarios. This approach is referred to as the “robustness” approach to system design. We present a formal definition of “robustness” for the uncapacitated network design problem, and develop algorithms aimed at finding robust network designs. These algorithms are adaptations of the Benders decomposition methodology that are tailored so they can efficiently identify robust network designs. We tested the proposed algorithms on a set of randomly generated problems. Our computational experiments showed two important properties. First, robust solutions are abundant in uncapacitated network design problems, and second, the proposed algorithms performance is satisfactory in terms of cost and number of robust network designs obtained.  相似文献

Consolidation at hubs in a pure hub-and-spoke network eliminates partial center-to-center direct loads, resulting in savings in transportation costs. In this research, we propose a general capacitated p-hub median model, with economies of scale and integral constraints on the paths. This model requires the selection of a specific p among a set of candidate hubs so that the total cost on the resulting pure capacitated hub-and-spoke network is minimized while simultaneously meeting origin–destination demands, operational capacity and singular path constraints. We explored the problem structure and developed a genetic algorithm using the path for encoding. This algorithm is capable of determining local optimality within less than 0.1% of the Lagrangian relaxation lower bounds on our Chinese air cargo network testing case and has reasonable computational times. The study showed that designating airports with high pickups or deliveries as hubs resulted in a high percentage of origin–destination pairs (ODs) in direct deliveries. Furthermore, the more hubs there are, the higher the direct share and the less likely for double rehandles. Sensitivity analysis on the discount rate showed that the economies of scale on trunk lines of hub-and-spoke networks may have a substantial impact on both the operating costs and the route patterns.  相似文献

We introduce the prize-collecting generalized minimum spanning tree problem. In this problem a network of node clusters needs to be connected via a tree architecture using exactly one node per cluster. Nodes in each cluster compete by offering a payment for selection. This problem is NP-hard, and we describe several heuristic strategies, including local search and a genetic algorithm. Further, we present a simple and computationally efficient branch-and-cut algorithm. Our computational study indicates that our branch-and-cut algorithm finds optimal solutions for networks with up to 200 nodes within two hours of CPU time, while the heuristic search procedures rapidly find near-optimal solutions for all of the test instances.  相似文献

We use computational phylogenetic techniques to solve a central problem in inferential network monitoring. More precisely, we design a novel algorithm for multicast‐based delay inference, that is, the problem of reconstructing delay characteristics of a network from end‐to‐end delay measurements on network paths. Our inference algorithm is based on additive metric techniques used in phylogenetics. It runs in polynomial time and requires a sample of size only poly(log n). A bus network design problem for Tin Shui Wai, a suburban residential area in Hong Kong, is investigated, which considers the bus services from the origins inside this suburban area to the destinations in the urban areas. The problem aims to improve the existing bus services by reducing the number of transfers and the total travel time of the users. This has been achieved by the proposed integrated solution method which can solve the route design and frequency setting problems simultaneously. In the proposed solution method, a genetic algorithm, which tackles the route design problem, is hybridized with a neighborhood search heuristic, which tackles the frequency setting problem. A new solution representation scheme and specific genetic operators are developed so that the genetic algorithm can search all possible route structures, rather than selecting routes from the predefined set. To avoid premature convergence, a diversity control mechanism is incorporated in the solution method based on a new definition of hamming distance. To illustrate the robustness and quality of solutions obtained, computational experiments are performed based on 1000 perturbed demand matrices. The t-test results show that the design obtained by the proposed solution method is robust under demand uncertainty, and the design is better than both the current design and the design obtained by solving the route design problem and the frequency setting problem sequentially. Compared with the current bus network design, the proposed method can generate a design which can simultaneously reduce the number of transfers and total travel time at least by 20.9% and 22.7% respectively. Numerical studies are also performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the diversity control mechanism introduced and the effects of weights on the two objective values.  相似文献

An important aspect in manufacturing design is the distribution of geometrical tolerances so that an assembly functions with given probability, while minimising the manufacturing cost. This requires a complex search over a multidimensional domain, much of which leads to infeasible solutions and which can have many local minima. As well, Monte-Carlo methods are often required to determine the probability that the assembly functions as designed. This paper describes a genetic algorithm for carrying out this search and successfully applies it to two specific mechanical designs, enabling comparisons of a new statistical tolerancing design method with existing methods.  相似文献

This paper proposes a branch-and-price algorithm as an exact algorithm for the cross-docking supply chain network design problem introduced by one of the authors of this paper. The objective is to optimally locate cross-docking (CD) centres and allocate vehicles for direct transportation services from the associated origin node to the associated CD centre or from the associated CD centre to the associated destination node so as to satisfy a given set of freight demands at minimum cost subject to the associated service (delivery) time restriction. A set-partitioning-based formulation is derived for the problem for which some solution properties are characterized. Based on the properties, a branch-and-price algorithm is derived. The properties can also be used in deriving any efficient local search heuristics with the move operation (neighbourhood search operation) of modifying assignment of some freight demands from current CD centres to other CD centres. Computational experiments show that the branch-and-price algorithm is effective and efficient and also that the solution properties contribute to improve the efficiency of the local search heuristics.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe an approach for solving the quadratic assignment problem (QAP) that is based on genetic algorithms (GA). It will be shown that a standard canonical GA (SGA), which involves genetic operators of selection, reproduction, crossover, and mutation, tends to fall short of the desired performance expected of a search algorithm. The performance deteriorates significantly as the size of the problem increases. To address this syndrome, it is common for GA-based techniques to be embedded with deterministic local search procedures. It is proposed that the local search should involve simple procedure of genome reordering that should not be too complex. More importantly, from a computational point of view, the local search should not carry with it the full cost of evaluating a chromosome after each move in the localized landscape. Results of simulation on several difficult QAP benchmarks showed the effectiveness of our approaches.  相似文献

This paper examines a network design problem that arises in the telecommunications industry. In this problem, communication between a gateway vertex and a number of demand vertices is achieved through a network of fiber optic cables. Since each cable has an associated capacity (bandwidth), enough capacity must be installed on the links of the network to satisfy the demand, using possibly different types of cables. Starting with a network with no capacity or some capacity already installed, a tabu search heuristic is designed to find a solution that minimizes the cost of installing any additional capacity on the network. This tabu search applies a k-shortest path algorithm to find alternative paths from the gateway to the demand vertices. Numerical results are presented on different types of networks with up to 200 vertices and 100 demand vertices.  相似文献

Traditionally, the minimum cost transshipment problems have been simplified as linear cost problems, which are not practical in real applications. Recently, some advanced local search algorithms have been developed that can directly solve concave cost bipartite network problems. However, they are not applicable to general transshipment problems. Moreover, the effectiveness of these modified local search algorithms for solving general concave cost transshipment problems is doubtful. In this research, we propose a global search algorithm for solving concave cost transshipment problems. Effecient methods for encoding, generating initial populations, selection, crossover and mutation are proposed, according to the problem characteristics. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed global search algorithm, four advanced local search algorithms based on the threshold accepting algorithm, the great deluge algorithm, and the tabu search algorithm, are also developed and are used for comparison purpose. To assist with the comparison of the proposed algorithms, a randomized network generator is designed to produce test problems. All the tests are performed on a personal computer. The results indicate that the proposed global search algorithm is more effective than the four advanced local algorithms, for solving concave cost transshipment problems.  相似文献

快速充电站选址是电动汽车运营的重要内容之一。本文考虑电动汽车用户会通过绕行一定距离对车辆进行充电这一特征,建立了一个以电动汽车快速充电站建站成本和旅客整体绕行成本之和最小的双层整数规划模型。本文首先给出了用于生成绕行路径集合的A*算法,然后设计了一种包含局部迭代搜索的自适应遗传算法对该模型进行求解。为了测试算法性能,通过两个不同规模的算例图与已有求解FPLM问题的遗传算法进行了比较,数值试验部分证明了算法的正确性和有效性。最后引入浙江省的高速路网图,从建站成本和截流量两方面对电池续航里程带来的影响进行了相关的灵敏度分析。  相似文献
