A novel method for measuring the nonlinear refractive index of an optical fiber using a spectral ratio between the modulation frequency and a harmonic component in a modulated optical fiber ring resonator (OFRR) is proposed. The spectral ratio between the modulation frequency and the 2nd-harmonics generated by phase-modulation through the OFRR is increased with increasing the input light power and has peaks above 5 W input power, however, the peaks was shifted to the lower input power below 1 W by averaging taken into account of the phase distribution. A experimental setup consisted of an OFRR system and an Ar-laser as a pump light source was used to determine the nonlinear refractive index of an optical fiber. In the experimental results, the peaks of the spectral ratio as a function of the input power was found out at 0.8 W and 0.45 W of the input power corresponding to the input source line at 488.0 nm and 514.5 nm, respectively. The profile was similar to that obtained by the simulation and the nonlinear refractive index of a optical fiber was determined as 1.0 × 10−22 m2/V2 by a relationship between the input power giving the peak and the nonlinear refractive index.  相似文献

A new experimental method is proposed for measuring the refractive indices of liquids based on mode line measurements. The experimental setup consists of a dielectric substrate in which a rectangular hollow is formed containing the concerned liquid. This is covered by a trapezium-shaped prism. The liquid, confined between both basin walls and the prism, forms a wavegude. Thus, the refractive index of the liquid can be determined by measuring the propagating modes in the structure. Using this technique, the refractive indices of liquids can be measured to an accuracy of the order of 1×10-4.  相似文献

当激光束通过静态液体薄膜时,由于表面的全反射效应能够观察到液体薄膜的遮光效应.在此基础上,以白光为光源研究了液体薄膜的遮光效应.结果显示,白光光源的遮光图样非常清晰,且无激光散斑效应|遮光图样的中心是一个光强极强的亮域,该区域的外部为两个同心的环状暗场,两个暗场之间是亮场,亮暗边界十分清楚|液体薄膜遮光图样的半径大小与液体的折射率有关,液体折射率越大,遮光图样的半径越大.本文给出了液体薄膜遮光半径与液体折射率的解析关系,分析了遮光图样产生的必要与充分条件,并根据液体薄膜的遮光效应,建立了一种测量液体折射率的新方法,测量了纯净水的折射率.结果表明,该测量值与传统方法所测折射率的值相吻合且该方法具有设备简单、操作简便、重复性好、准确度高等特点.  相似文献

A high sensitive and compact refractive index sensor based on slotted photonic crystal waveguide (S-PhCW) is demonstrated. This design is worked on a Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration with S-PhCW as the measuring arm, which can be used to detect any changes in refractive index that correspond to different concentration of the measuring liquid. Combining the slow light enhancement in photonic crystal waveguide (PhCW) with the advantage of excellent optical confinement in slot waveguide, the sensitivity of this simple scheme can reach to 2.3 × 109 nm/RIU with the active region of only 1 mm long.  相似文献

A method that utilizes the Fresnel diffraction of light from the phase step formed by a transparent wedge is introduced for measuring the refractive indices of transparent solids, liquids, and solutions. It is shown that, as a transparent wedge of small apex angle is illuminated perpendicular to its surface by a monochromatic parallel beam of light, the Fresnel fringes, caused by abrupt change in refractive index at the wedge lateral boundary, are formed on a screen held perpendicular to the beam propagation direction. The visibility of the fringes varies periodically between zero and 1 in the direction normal to the wedge apex. For a known or measured apex angle, the wedge refractive index is obtained by measuring the period length by a CCD. To measure the refractive index of a transparent liquid or solution, the wedge is installed in a transparent rectangle cell containing the sample. Then, the cell is illuminated perpendicularly and the visibility period is measured. By using modest optics, one can measure the refractive index at a relative uncertainty level of 10(-5). There is no limitation on the refractive index range. The method can be applied easily with no mechanical manipulation. The measuring apparatus can be very compact with low mechanical and optical noises.  相似文献

This study develops a high-precision, non-destructive optical metrology system based on a position sensing detector for measuring the refractive index of a liquid solution such that its alcohol concentration can be derived. A series of experiments are performed to measure the refractive indices of samples of known alcohol concentrations in the range 0–99.5%. The experimental results indicate that the refractive index and the alcohol concentration are related by a quadratic function. According to this mathematical function, the refractive index of a sample with an alcohol concentration of 95% is n95%=1.36442. The measured value of the refractive index of the same sample is found to be nalcohol-95%=1.36587. The deviation of just 0.00145 between the two sets of results confirms the accuracy of the analytical prediction method. For a sample with a known alcohol concentration of 37%, the error between the analytically predicted concentration value and the actual value is found to be less than 0.7%. Overall, the results confirm that the proposed system provides a low-cost, straightforward and highly precise approach for measuring the alcohol concentration of liquid samples.  相似文献

A differential detection technique combined with a surface plasmon resonance technique is proposed for refractive index variation measurement. The experimental results demonstrate that our system can attain a resolution of 1.2 × 10?5 RIU (refractive index unit). In addition, a method for two-dimensional detection of the refractive index variation is demonstrated. The system is free from the influence of optical source fluctuation, and can improve the measurement sensitivity.  相似文献

随着AWG型器件在光通信系统中的大规模应用,对低成本AWG芯片的需求越来越多。在各种降成本方案中,减小AWG芯片的尺寸是最有效的方法之一。本文介绍了一种新型小尺寸低折射率差硅基二氧化硅阵列波导光栅(AWG)的设计。在该AWG中,输入波导/输出波导与平板波导连接的部分制作成两侧为空气槽的高折射率差波导,所以在与输出平板波导连接处的相邻输出波导间距较小,这样可以在设计上缩短平板波导的长度、减少阵列波导的数量,实现较小的AWG芯片尺寸。该AWG的其它部分,如输入/输出波导与光纤耦合的部分、阵列波导光栅等均采用常规的低折射率波导工艺,所以就同时具有与常规的低折射率波导AWG相同的优点:如低耦合损耗、较好的串扰以及光学特性等。根据这个原理,设计了一种40通道100 GHz频率间隔的低折射率差硅基二氧化硅AWG,其芯片尺寸只有23.88 mm?10.5 mm,是传统相同材料制作的AWG尺寸的1/6。  相似文献

In this study an alternative method based on surface plasmon resonance is proposed for in-situ monitoring of variation in the refractive index of a test sample. A wavelength-modulated light source and an unequal-path-length optical configuration heterodyne interferometer are used to detect the phase difference change, which can then be used to estimate the change in the refractive index of a test sample. The experimental results demonstrate a phase stability of 0.02°. The resolution power of the refractive index is 1.5 × 10− 6 RIU. This method has several advantages over previously used methods such as simple optical setup, easier operation in real time, and low cost.  相似文献

本文展示一种由两根微米光纤构成的耦合型环境折射率传感器。微米光纤表面存在倏逝波,芯外介质折射率微小的改变将引起倏逝场分布变化,从而导致能量在耦合器两臂中的重新分配。本文通过测量耦合器两端出射光功率的比值来对葡萄糖溶液的浓度进行传感,实验结果表明该微米光纤耦合型传感器的浓度传感灵敏度可达1.58 mol·L~(-1)。本文用耦合模理论详细分析了两根相邻微米光纤的耦合效率与芯外介质折射率之间的关系,发现减小耦合区的光纤的直径,增大入射光波长或增大耦合长度,都可以进一步提高这种传感器的灵敏度。  相似文献

选区外延技术是实现有源与无源光器件单片集成的一种有效的工艺手段,但同时对两种器件在异质生长界面处的对接结构提出了更高的设计要求.本文通过选区外延技术实现了InP基O波段4通道阵列波导光栅与单载流子探测器的单片集成.通过光学仿真重点研究了选区外延后界面处形貌对无源波导结构与有源光探测器间光耦合效率的影响,包括伸长的光学匹配层、二次外延生长边界位置、波导刻蚀边界位置等因素.研究结果表明,在保证二次外延生长边界对准异质对接界面时,将光学匹配层伸出探测器前端10μm并与外延边界无缝对接既可以保证高效的光传输效率(或探测器量子效率),又可以避免外延界面处的异常生长对器件制备工艺的影响,保证生长工艺与器件制备工艺的兼容性.成功制备的单片集成芯片具有高达76%的探测器量子效率,证明了对接方案的有效性.同时,集成芯片的低串扰(-22 dB)与解复用特性展示出其作为解复用光接收芯片具有巨大潜力.  相似文献

Size effects in neutron optics of mesoscale liquid mixtures in the critical region are studied. It is shown that the Schrödinger equation for the neutron wave function can be presented as the corresponding electrodynamical wave equation with the Fermi pseudopotential for a binary liquid mixture taken into account. Formulae for the neutron refractive index of bulk and confined liquid mixtures are derived and discussed. As an example, numerical calculations for a mixture of ethane and carbon dioxide C2H6-CO2 are presented, which illustrates a good agreement between experimental and theoretical data.  相似文献

A novel surface plasmon resonance photonic sensor is proposed using an index-guided microstructured fiber with an analyte channel introduced into the central core. Compared with the previous designs of porous fiber core, variation of the signal amplitude with exterior refractive index is demonstrated to be contrary to that of the sensitivity in the proposed fiber, contributing to optimized detecting accuracy over a large refractive index range of 1.33 to 1.42. By carefully choosing the central channel size, the analyte-filled core can achieve narrower resonance spectral width and higher signal to noise ratio (SNR) than the air-filled core. Sensor responses are also studied in this paper based on two spectral interrogation methods, including monitoring single resonance shift and measuring change in the resonance separation. For both methods, response linearity has been improved considerably through partially filling the core with analyte. The maximal sensitivity reaches 10− 6 refractive index unit (RIU). The linear sensing performance along with the broad measurement range is very promising in the application of the proposed sensor as sensitive refractometer.  相似文献

The principle of the optical technique critical angle refractometry, used to determine the size and refractive index of spherical particles (with relative refractive index below unity) in liquid flows, was investigated. This technique is based on the observation of the particle scattering pattern around the critical angle. Similarly to the recent technique developed for rainbow scattering pattern analysis for droplet temperature and size measurements, it is shown that the relative particle refractive index (mr<1) and size can be determined from the position of the primary diffraction fringe and from the angular spacing between two fringes. Explicit equations for refractive index and particle size measurement were derived from the first-order term of the physical optics approximation. An experimental validation test and numerical computations based on the Lorenz-Mie theory were used to validate the principle of the proposed technique and to estimate its sensitivity, which was shown to be of the same order as that of the rainbow technique. This technique is considered to be useful for various applications in liquid multiphase flows where the particles size and material are to be characterized.  相似文献

提出了一种无损检测眼镜镜片基底折射率的方法。该方法通过测量眼镜镜片在可见光区域内的反射比数据,采用高斯牛顿迭代法拟合反射比曲线来检测镜片基底折射率,并用Cauchy模型分析了镜片折射率的色散现象。检测结果表明,镜片折射率的相对误差不超过2%,可基本满足对镜片折射率区间的判定。  相似文献

研究了一种基于表面等离子体波共振(SPR)光谱分析的折射率检测新方法。研究发现,表面等离子体波共振效应光谱特征的折射率灵敏度会随着液体性质变化而发生改变。根据折射率测量范围不同,分别选择共振波长和共振强度作为检测参量,实现理论折射率分辨力达到10~(-5)数量级以上。在理论分析和实验基础上,设计出一种基于共振光强检测的终端反射式光纤表面等离子体波共振效应传感系统,采用将传感信号和基准光信号的比值作为液体折射率变化的度量值。在1.3325~1.3991的折射率测量范围内,度量值与折射率之间呈现单调递减关系,线性相关系数为0.9983。通过定义耦合系数,还可实现对表面等离子体波共振效应效应强弱和变化趋势的评估。  相似文献

An abrupt bend structure with a corner reflector on LiNbO3 is proposed. In the proposed structure, a region whose refractive index is higher than that of the substrate is placed at the corner of the bend. The interface between the substrate and the high index region is used as a reflector for the guided wave. The calculated normalized transmission power is about 94% even when the bend angle is 10.  相似文献
