We analyze theoretically the coupling properties of Bragg gratings written in highly birefringent photonic crystal fibers with doped core and show how they can be tuned by the parameters of a microstructured fiber. We apply the coupled mode theory combined with a fully vectorial mode solver based on the plane-wave method. The results indicate large differences in interaction with the grating for the two linearly polarized fundamental modes. We show fiber designs, which provide single-mode operation with high birefringence and at the same time a high coupling efficiency of the grating. Such features can be used in fiber sensors, fiber laser configurations or to introduce a polarization dependent feedback in a long external cavity system with a semiconductor laser.  相似文献

为了拓宽光纤耦合器的使用范围,开发光纤耦合器的新功能,采用熔锥技术制作波长敏感耦合器,该耦合器在分光的同时对波长敏感。通过耦合理论验证实验结果,实验数据与理论值相符合。实验中得到波长灵敏度最大值为17.86%/nm的耦合器。采用拉锥工艺制作波长敏感耦合器工艺简单,耦合比峰值对应波长控制易于实现。该耦合器可用于光纤光栅布拉格波长漂移解调。令待解调光纤光栅布拉格波长与耦合器波长灵敏度最大值对应的波长一致,当波长发生漂移时,耦合器输出耦合比发生变化。自制的波长敏感耦合器实现了对布拉格波长为1566.71 nm光纤光栅波长漂移的解调,波长漂移1.80 nm,耦合比变化20.34%。此种解调方式具有光路简单,易于与光纤匹配的优点,可以应用在大型建筑中光纤光栅的健康监测。  相似文献

基于非球面透镜的空间光场光纤耦合系统研究   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
针对全光纤激光雷达中空间光场与单模光纤的耦合问题,设计了基于非球面透镜的望远镜光纤耦合系统.利用ZEMAX软件以单模光纤耦合效率为优化目标对其结构参量进行优化设计,然后分别用LED和激光器作为光源进行初步实验,比较直接耦合和非球面透镜耦合效果.实验结果表明,采用非球面透镜耦合可使多模光源的耦合效率比直接耦合增加约47%,与仿真结果45%非常接近,且不同芯径耦合光功率之比大略等于芯径比平方;而该耦合方式可使单模光源的耦合效率增加约20%,且耦合进不同小芯径光纤的耦合效率之比约为其芯径比平方的2.4倍,这对构建全光纤转动喇曼激光雷达系统具有重要意义.  相似文献

为了研究布拉格光纤的模式特征和传输特性,提出了超格子模型,利用傅里叶级数表示光纤横向折射率分布,利用平面波展开法分析布拉格光纤的能带结构,基于厄米-主斯函数的局域正交函数展开法,从全矢量耦合波动方程出发,得到关于模式传播常量和电场展开系数的本征方程,从而分析布拉格光纤的模式特征。以高折射率芯布拉格光纤为例,实现了该算法,得到基模与二次模的横向电场分布、基模色散曲线和模式双折射。基模的模式双折射可用于衡量算法的精度,结果表明该算法精度较高。超格子模型不仅可以用于研究高折射率芯布拉格光纤,而且同样可以研究低折射率区域导光的布拉格光纤。  相似文献

采用光纤波导三层模型,对有限包层半径光纤Bragg光栅导模有效折射率的改变进行了理论分析,结果表明:当包层直径小于16μm时,单模光纤Bragg光栅(纤芯直径为8.3μm)的导模有效折射率才开始发生明显变化.在包层外添加外包层,通过改变外包层的折射率可以实现对光栅Bragg反射波长的调谐,同时对不同芯子直径的光栅Bragg波长移动进行了数值计算.在保证光纤归一化频率不变的前提下,芯径越小Bragg波长调谐范围越大,当包层厚度为1μm时,芯径为a=2.2μm的光栅Bragg波长调谐范围约为3.9μm.  相似文献

Coupling between copropagating core and cladding modes was implemented by acoustic generation of lateral vibration of an etched fiber. When these coupling processes were combined with counterpropagating coupling of a core mode and a cladding mode and the Bragg reflection of a fiber grating, switching of reflection wavelength between the Bragg wavelength and cladding-mode coupling wavelengths was achieved. We report the implementation of such acoustically induced switching behaviors and explain their operation principles. The implemented results can be used for wavelength-division multiplexed add-drop filtering.  相似文献

Possessing a gradient refractive index (RI), thermally expanded core (TEC) fibers have been studied to be able to improve coupling efficiency of waveguide-fiber or LD-fiber according to the qualitative analysis of geometrical optics. The experiments show that the mode field radius (MFR) expansion of single-mode fiber with highly Germanium-doped (HGD) is more effective than that of conventional single-mode fiber (SMF). The coupling efficiency of a fabricated TEC fiber with HGD can enhance 5%–6% compared with that of a conventional-SMF. So the TEC fiber with HGD is a good candidate for the coupling of waveguide-fiber or LD-fiber.  相似文献

Combination of equivalent reflection cavity model and transmission line theory is applied in theoretical analysis of external cavity semiconductor lasers with sampled fiber Bragg grating. The effects of device parameters on the resonant cavity mode and the side mode suppression ratio have been discussed. For a perfect anti-coated facet and the high coupling efficiency, it is found that the Vernier effect between combed reflectivity peaks and F-P cavity modes can be destroyed and the laser will work on multi-wavelength. The high coupling efficiency plays the same role as the lower anti-reflection coating reflectivity in the side mode suppression ratio and the mode resonance. Finally, the side mode suppression ratio is investigated in detail depending on the anti-coating reflectivity, the coupling efficiency and the high-reflection coating reflectivity.  相似文献

Characteristics of Fused Optical Fiber Grating Couplers with Tapered Shapes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Fused optical fiber grating couplers (FGCs), in which Bragg gratings are written in the coupling regions of fused optical fiber couplers with tapered shapes along them are theoretically and experimentally investigated. By coupled mode analysis considering these tapered shapes, the drop efficiencies of the FGCs, which are inherently zero for the normal fiber couplers without grating, are calculated. The grating offset, which is the difference between the centers of grating and the coupler taper, is found to be effective to increase the drop efficiency of the FGC. It is determined that the tapered shapes influence the wavelength dependence of the drop efficiency and tolerate the grating offset precision. Apodizations for the grating of FGC are found to be effective in suppressing side lobes of the drop efficiency. Measurement of the wavelength characteristics of drop efficiency and the temperature characteristics of drop wavelength of the fabricated fused FGC confirm that the lightwave with specific wavelength can be dropped by the FGC and that the temperature dependence of the drop wavelength is similar to that of Bragg wavelength changes of usual fiber Bragg gratings.  相似文献

Stratified waveguide grating coupler for normal fiber incidence   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We propose a new stratified waveguide grating coupler (SWGC) to couple light from a fiber at normal incidence into a planar waveguide. SWGCs are designed to operate in the strong coupling regime without intermediate optics between the fiber and the waveguide. Two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain simulation in conjunction with microgenetic algorithm optimization shows that approximately 72% coupling efficiency is possible for fiber (core size of 8.3 microm and delta=0.36%) to slab waveguide (1.2-microm core and delta=3.1%) coupling. We show that the phase-matching and Bragg conditions are simultaneously satisfied through the fundamental leaky mode.  相似文献

A theoretical scheme for a new surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) fiber sensor with a fiber Bragg grating imprinted into the fiber core for SPP excitation is presented for the first time to our knowledge. In our scheme the energy in the fiber core mode can be transferred to a SPP with high efficiency by means of a properly designed short-period fiber Bragg grating (SPG). Developed for the cylindrical (fiber) geometry, our scheme without loss of generality can be applied to a planar geometry. Our simulations are based on the coupled-mode method and are performed at telecommunications wavelengths.  相似文献

Based on theoretical analysis and simulation software, the paper researched the performance of transmission after using tilt-Spectral fiber Bragg grating for SSB modulation in Radio over Fiber system. The study concluded that DSB signal can be converted to SSB signal by using tilt-Spectral fiber Bragg grating, and inhibit the carrier power. There are two ideal conditions for a best grating. First, one side of DSB signal will be completely filtered, while the other side remains the same power. Secondly, carrier power equals to sideband power in SSB signal, which means that carrier-to-sideband ratio is 0 dB. As the result, the best tilt-Spectral fiber Bragg grating is designed. Transmitting the SSB signal which is filtered by the best grating in optical fiber not only eliminates the phenomenon that output amplitude change with the transmission distance cyclically, it also enhances the transmission efficiency and receiver sensitivity.  相似文献

We introduce a fiber ring optical resonator based on adiabatic fused-fiber grating couplers. The coupling of a through fiber to the resonator is controlled by the strength of the fiber Bragg gratings. By using two of these couplers and incorporating erbium-doped (ED) fiber in the ring, we control the internal loss of the ring by pumping the ED fiber. The transmission spectra of the through port and the drop port of a four-port configuration, a ring coupled to two waveguides, are measured. We show that the loss/coupling ratio of the ring-fiber system can be changed and thus that the transmission properties of the fiber can be controlled.  相似文献

对Bragg光纤中包层制造误差对导模特性的影响进行了深入的分析和研究,给出了一般N层波导中模式场标量波动方程求解的传输矩阵方法,并将其应用在Bragg光纤模式场的分析当中。分别研究了Bragg包层存在折射率误差和厚度误差时对光纤基模模式场的有效折射率、模场半径和芯区功率占比的影响,并利用统计的方法分析了不同制作误差时导模特性的相对变化。折射率误差在1‰的水平时,基模有效折射率、模场半径和芯区功率占比的方差水平为1.55×10~(-4)、1.04×10~(-1)和1.79×10~(-2);厚度误差在2%的水平时模式场参量的方差水平分别为3.61×10~(-5)、1.84×10~(-2)和2.35×10~(-3)。  相似文献

设计了一种大纤芯实心Bragg光纤,并从理论上证明,利用这种光纤可以实现大纤芯的双模光纤放大器.纤芯的增大使制作光纤放大器的工艺变得简单,并且可以使泵浦光直接灌入纤芯,这样泵浦光与信号光可以最大限度的重合,从而提高了泵浦光的耦合效率.同时,纤芯的增大使光纤芯区的总能量得以增大,这样就可以得到高功率的光纤放大器.  相似文献

This Letter presents simulation and experimental results that explore bending insensitivity of fiber Bragg gratings in suspended-core optical fibers. The implementation of thin silica bridge in the fibers enhances index contrast of the fiber core and reduces bending-induced strain transfer to the fiber core. This fiber design lead to a reduction of over 7 times in strain-induced fiber Bragg grating resonant peak shifts in the suspended-core fiber compared with that in standard telecommunication fiber, and an 0.14 dB bending loss at a bending radius of 6.35 mm.  相似文献

反射谱具有三角形形状的光纤光栅在光纤传感等领域中具有重要的应用前景。利用遗传算法设计出了产生三角形光谱分布的光纤光栅的耦合系数沿光纤的分布。计算表明,三角形光谱光纤光栅是可以实现的,其反射带宽可以通过光栅的啁啾量进行调节,常周期的三角光栅反射带宽小,变周期的三角光栅反射带宽大,其带宽同其啁啾量大致相等。实验中,采用光束扫描法制备了反射底宽为0.77nm三角形光谱的光纤光栅。  相似文献

Abstract

This study proposed and demonstrated a fiber Bragg grating sensor for simultaneous detection of the temperature and refractive index of a liquid. The fiber Bragg grating is composed of three index layers: an inner core, an outer core, and a cladding. The cladding was etched for evanescent wave coupling between the outer core mode and an external liquid. The Bragg wavelength of the inner core mode is used for obtaining temperature data, while the refractive index for the liquid was determined by using the difference between the Bragg wavelength of the inner core mode and that of outer core mode.  相似文献

本文对温度和轴向应变对长周期光纤光栅和Bragg光纤光栅耦合波长的影响机制作出分析,通过有代表性的举例计算数值给出了各因素对耦合波长的影响,指出轴向应变对耦合波长的影响除了来自光弹性效应带来的光纤折射率的改变外,光纤半径的变化,特别是光栅周期的改变也起重要作用.对比分析找到了长周期光纤光栅与Bragg光纤光栅温度,应变响应系数数量级异同的原因.  相似文献
