For difference equations of the form un+=Aun+f nh, n ≤ T/h the necessary condition for stability due to von Neumann is well known; this condition is expressed in terms of the spectrum of the operator A: r(A)≤1+ch. In this note, for a certain class of difference equations, we express this condition in terms of the spectral radius of the symbol of the operator A.  相似文献

In [2] R. C. Bose gives a sufficient condition for the existence of a (q, 5, 1) difference family in (GF(q), +)—where q ≡ 1 mod 20 is a prime power — with the property that every base block is a coset of the 5th roots of unity. Similarly he gives a sufficient condition for the existence of a (q, 4, 1) difference family in (GF(q, +)—where q ≡ 1 mod 12 is a prime power — with the property that every base block is the union of a coset of the 3rd roots of unity with zero. In this article we replace the mentioned sufficient conditions with necessary and sufficient ones. As a consequence, we obtain new infinite classes of simple difference families and hence new Steiner 2-designs with block sizes 4 and 5. In particular, we get a (p, 5, 1)-DF for any odd prime p ≡ 2, 3 (mod 5), and a (p, 4, 1)-DF for any odd prime p ≡ 2 (mod 3). © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions for the stability of multidimensional finite difference schemes are difficult to obtain. It is shown that for special families of amplification matrices G (A, B) a sufficient condition for power boundedness can be obtained by replacing the matrices by appropriate scalars, and so the problem is reduced to a scalar one. As one application it is shown that the Lax-Wendroff scheme in two dimensions is stable if |Au|23 + |Bu|23 ? 1 for all real unit vectors u. The Lax- Wendroff scheme with stabilizer does not always permit such large time steps. It is conjectured that the analysis for all symmetric hyperbolic schemes can be reduced to the scalar case.  相似文献

The problem of finding a global minimizer of the difference of polyhedral functions is considered. By means of conjugate functions, necessary and sufficient conditions for the unboundedness and the boundedness of such functions in R n are derived. Using hypodifferentials of polyhedral functions, necessary and sufficient conditions for a global unconstrained minimum on R n are proved.  相似文献

Let A be the C-algebra associated to an arbitrary continuous field of C-algebras. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for A to have the ideal property and, if moreover A is separable, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for A to have the projection property. Some applications of these results are given. We also prove that “many” crossed products of commutative C-algebras by discrete, amenable groups have the projection property, generalizing some of our previous results.  相似文献

This paper investigates a class of 2nth-order singular superlinear problems with Strum-Liouville boundary conditions. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of C 2 n- 2 [0, 1] positive solutions, and a sufficient condition, a necessary condition for the existence of C 2 n-1 [0, 1] positive solutions. Relations between the positive solutions and the Green’s functions are depicted. The results are used to judge nonexistence or existence of positive solutions for given boundary value problems.  相似文献

For q a prime power and k odd (even), we define a (q,k,1) difference family to be radical if each base block is a coset of the kth roots of unity in the multiplicative group of GF(q) (the union of a coset of the (k ? 1)th roots of unity in the multiplicative group of GF(q) with zero). Such a family will be denoted by RDF. The main result on this subject is a theorem dated 1972 by R.M. Wilson; it is a sufficient condition for the existence of a (q,k, 1)-RDF for any k. We improve this result by replacing Wilson's condition with another sufficient but weaker condition, which is proved to be necessary at least for k ? 7. We investigate the existence of difference sets in particular 2-groups. Being aware of the famous necessary conditions derived from Turyn’s and Ma’s theorems, we develop a new method to cover necessary conditions for the existence of (22d+2,22d+1?2 d ,22d ?2 d ) difference sets, for some large classes of 2-groups. If a 2-group G possesses a normal cyclic subgroup 〈x〉 of order greater than 2 d+3+p , where the outer elements act on the cyclic subgroup similarly as in the dihedral, semidihedral, quaternion or modular groups and 2 p describes the size of G′∩〈x〉 or C G (x)′∩〈x〉, then there is no difference set in such a group. Technically, we use a simple fact on how sums of 2 n -roots of unity can be annulated and use it to characterize properties of norm invariance (prescribed norm). This approach gives necessary conditions when a linear combination of 2 n -roots of unity remains unchanged under homomorphism actions in the sense of the norm.  相似文献

Let B be a closed linear transformation of the Banach space X into the Banach space Y and let A be a bounded linear transformation of Y into the Banach space Z. A simple condition is shown to be necessary and sufficient for AB to have closed range. Provided B is relatively regular there is a simple necessary and sufficient condition for AB to be relatively regular. A difference preorder is a (possibly incomplete) preorder on a space of state changes (rather than the states themselves); it encodes information about preference intensity, in addition to ordinal preferences. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for a difference preorder to be representable by a family of cardinal utility functions which take values in linearly ordered abelian groups. We also discuss the sense in which this cardinal utility representation is unique up to affine transformations, and under what conditions it is real-valued. This has applications to interpersonal comparisons, social welfare, and decisions under uncertainty.  相似文献

We give a necessary and sufficient condition, in the spirit of the classical works by Keller and Osserman, for the elliptic equation Δu = f (u) to have a solution in a half-space of RN. The function f is supposed to be nondecreasing and nonnegative, and we are interested in solutions whose range is where f > 0. In this paper, by using a new non-polynomial parameters cubic spline in space direction and compact finite difference in time direction, we get a class of new high accuracy scheme of O(τ4 + h2) and O(τ4 + h4) for solving telegraph equation if we suitably choose the cubic spline parameters. Meanwhile, stability condition of the difference scheme has been carried out. Finally, numerical examples are used to illustrate the efficiency of the new difference scheme.  相似文献

According to the truth-functional analysis of conditions, to be ‘necessary for’ and ‘sufficient for’ are converse relations. From this, it follows that to be ‘necessary and sufficient for’ is a symmetric relation, that is, that if P is a necessary and sufficient condition for Q, then Q is a necessary and sufficient condition for P. This view is contrary to common sense.
