We study optimal paths in disordered energy landscapes using energy distributions of the type P(log(10) E)=const that lead to the strong disorder limit. If we truncate the distribution, so that P(log(10) E)=const only for E(min) < or =E < or =E(max), and P(log(10) E)=0 otherwise, we obtain a crossover from self-similar (strong disorder) to self-affine (moderate disorder) behavior at a path length l(x). We find that l(x) proportional, variant[log(10)(E(max)/E(min))](kappa), where the exponent kappa has the value kappa=1.60 +/- 0.03 both in d=2 and d=3. We show how the crossover can be understood from the distribution of local energies on the optimal paths.  相似文献

The effect of the surfactant chain length n on the bending modulus kappa of surfactant monolayers is simulated with a mesoscopic oil-water-surfactant model. We confirm a power law, kappa is proportional to np, as predicted by mean-field theory and found experimentally, and find p approximately 1.5 at a constant surface density and p approximately 1.0 at a constant interfacial tension. This agrees quite well with both mean-field theory (p=2-3, assuming constant surface density) and experiments (at constant surface tension). Our results suggest that the previously reported agreement between theory and experiment may be fortuitous and caused by the difference in surfactant types.  相似文献

Massive spin-1/2 fields are studied in the framework of loop quantum gravity by considering a state approximating, at a length scale L much greater than Planck length l(P), a spin-1/2 field in flat spacetime. The discrete structure of spacetime at l(P) yields corrections to the field propagation at scale L. Neutrino bursts ( &pmacr; approximately 10(5) GeV) accompanying gamma ray bursts that have traveled cosmological distances L are considered. The dominant correction is helicity independent and leads to a time delay of order (&pmacr;l(P))L/c approximately 10(4) s. To next order in &pmacr;l(P), the correction has the form of the Gambini and Pullin effect for photons. A dependence L(-1)(os) approximately &pmacr;(2)l(P) is found for a two-flavor neutrino oscillation length.  相似文献

We study traveling time and traveling length for tracer dispersion in two-dimensional bond percolation, modeling flow by tracer particles driven by a pressure difference between two points separated by Euclidean distance r. We find that the minimal traveling time t(min) scales as t(min) approximately r(1.33), which is different from the scaling of the most probable traveling time, t* approximately r(1.64). We also calculate the length of the path corresponding to the minimal traveling time and find l(min) approximately r(1.13) and that the most probable traveling length scales as l* approximately r(1.21). Time-resolved single-crystal diffraction performed with synchrotron radiation shows that the 53(1) micros phosphorescent state, generated in the crystalline phase of trimeric {[3,5-(CF3)(2)Pyrazolate]Cu}(3) molecules by exposure to 355 nm of light at 17 K, is due to the formation of an excimer rather than the shortening of the intramolecular Cu...Cu distances within the trimeric units, or the formation of a continuous chain of interacting molecules. One of the intermolecular Cu...Cu distances contracts by 0.56 Angstroms from 4.018(1) to 3.46(1) Angstroms;, whereas the interplanar spacing of the trimers is reduced by 0.65 Angstroms; from 3.952(1) to 3.33(1) Angstroms. Density-functional theory calculations support the formation of a Cu...Cu bond through the intermetallic transfer of a Cu 3d electron to a molecular orbital with a large 4p contribution on the reacting Cu atoms.  相似文献

The phase varphi of the field oscillations with respect to the peak of a laser pulse influences the light field evolution as the pulse length becomes comparable to the wave cycle and, hence, affects the interaction of intense few-cycle pulses with matter. We theoretically investigate photoelectron emission induced by an intense, few-cycle laser pulse from a metal surface (jellium) within the framework of time-dependent density functional theory and find a pronounced varphi dependence of the photocurrent. Our results reveal a promising route to measuring varphi of few-cycle light pulses (tau<6 fs at lambda=0.8 microm) at moderate intensity levels (I(p) approximately 10(12) W/cm(2)) using a solid-state device.  相似文献

A method is given for calculating the cross section for neutralization of for medium and heavy nuclei in terms of the optical potential, by addition of the neutralization operator . The method is reasonable for energies . Explicit forms are obtained for the differential and total cross sections for an optical potential in the form of a complex rectangular well, V(r) = V0., in which V0 differs; from zero within the nucleus and . The value of Vo corresponding to the observed cross section for lead is derived. The dependence of the total cross section on V0 for copper is given.I am indebted to P. E. We study the stability of network communication after removal of a fraction q=1-p of links under the assumption that communication is effective only if the shortest path between nodes i and j after removal is shorter than al(ij)(a> or =1) where l(ij) is the shortest path before removal. For a large class of networks, we find analytically and numerically a new percolation transition at p(c)=(kappa(0)-1)((1-a)/a), where kappa(0) [triple bond] / and k is the node degree. Above p(c), order N nodes can communicate within the limited path length al(ij), while below p(c), N(delta) (delta<1) nodes can communicate. We expect our results to influence network design, routing algorithms, and immunization strategies, where short paths are most relevant.  相似文献

In talking about the compatibility of quantum observables, discussions often center on the question of whether the corresponding operators commute—even though commutativity is a coarse-grained notion that largely fails to capture the salient nonclassical features of quantum theory. Often, too, such discussions involve the issue of whether the operators in question satisfy a Heisenberg-like inequality, of the form A·Br>0—even though such inequalities are specific to unbounded operators and (for this and other reasons) are typically not a useful way to discuss joint uncertainty in quantum mechanics. In the present paper we emphasize a simpler dichotomy, in which operator pairs (A, B) are classified according to whether or not states can be found with arbitrarily small dispersions in both A and B. If A and B cannot be made arbitrarily dispersionless simultaneously, then we call A and B an uncertainty pair. Otherwise, we call A and B a certainty pair. An interesting feature of uncertainty pairs in particular is that they are stable, in the sense that if A and B form an uncertainty pair, then slight enough perturbations of A and B must also form an uncertainty pair. This stability, obvious in the finite-dimensional case, follows in general from an operator inequality derived herein. A consequence of this inequality is that perturbed position and momentum operators X+X and P+P cannot share an eigenvector unless |X|·|P|/2. (Here vertical bars denote the operator norm.) This, despite the fact that (as we show) arbitrarily slight perturbations of X and P can fail to satisfy a Heisenberg inequality—a fact which raises interesting measurement issues in its own right.  相似文献

We study theoretically the transport through a single impurity in a one-channel Luttinger liquid coupled to a dissipative (Ohmic) bath. For nonzero dissipation, the single impurity is always a relevant perturbation which suppresses transport strongly. At zero temperature, the current voltage relation of the link is I approximately exp(-E0/eV), where E0 approximately eta/kappa and kappa denotes the compressibility. At nonzero temperature T, the linear conductance is proportional to exp(-sqrt(CE0/kBT)). The decay of Friedel oscillation saturates for a distance larger than L(eta) approximately 1/eta from the impurity.  相似文献

本文对于近似球对称的系统将汤、费模型推广以包括自旋轨道耦合能和作为动量和位置的函数的位能这两个因素在内。在原子核的情况下,推广的汤、费模型可以作为将布卢克勒关于核物质的理论推广到有限大原子核的一个近似的方法。本文对费米积分方程也作了相应的推广,根据推广后的费米积分方程所解出的质子的密度分布和由高能电子与原子核的散射实验所得的结果相符合。  相似文献

In recent work, we presented evidence that site-diluted triangular central-force networks, at finite temperatures, have a nonzero shear modulus for all concentrations of particles above the geometric percolation concentration p(c). This is in contrast to the zero-temperature case where the (energetic) shear modulus vanishes at a concentration of particles p(r)>p(c). In the present paper we report on analogous simulations of bond-diluted triangular lattices, site-diluted square lattices, and site-diluted simple-cubic lattices. We again find that these systems are rigid for all p>p(c) and that near p(c) the shear modulus mu approximately (p-p(c))(f), where the exponent f approximately 1.3 for two-dimensional lattices and f approximately 2 for the simple-cubic case. These results support the conjecture of de Gennes that the diluted central-force network is in the same universality class as the random resistor network. We present approximate renormalization group calculations that also lead to this conclusion.  相似文献

Turbulence, produced by an impulsive spin down from angular velocity Omega to rest of a cube-shaped container, is investigated in superfluid 4He at temperatures 0.08 K-1.6 K. The density of quantized vortex lines L is measured by scattering negative ions. Homogeneous turbulence develops after time t approximately 20/Omega and decays as L proportional, t-3/2. The corresponding energy flux =nu'(kappaL)2 proportional, t-3 is characteristic of quasiclassical turbulence at high Re with a saturated energy-containing length. The effective kinematic viscosity in T=0 limit is nu'=0.003kappa, where kappa=10(-3) cm2 s(-1) is the circulation quantum.  相似文献

Our velocity measurements on quasi-two-dimensional turbulent flow in a rapidly rotating annulus yield self-similar (scale-independent) probability distribution functions for longitudinal velocity differences, deltav(l) = v(x+l)-v(x). These distribution functions are strongly non-Gaussian, suggesting that the coherent vortices play a significant role. The structure functions <[deltav(l)](p)> approximately l(zeta)p exhibit anomalous scaling: zeta(p) = p / 2 rather than the expected zeta(p) = p / 3. Correspondingly, the energy spectrum is described by E(k) approximately k(-2) rather than the expected E(k) approximately k(-5/3).  相似文献

The conformation of circular DNA molecules of various lengths adsorbed in a 2D conformation on a mica surface is studied. The results confirm the conjecture that the critical exponent nu is topologically invariant and equal to the self-avoiding walk value (in the present case nu=3/4), and that the topology and dimensionality of the system strongly influence the crossover between the rigid regime and the self-avoiding regime at a scale L approximately 7l{p}. The behavior of seismicity in the area candidate to suffer a main shock is investigated after the observation of the Seismic Electric Signal activity until the impending main shock. This is based on the view that the occurrence of earthquakes is a critical phenomenon to which statistical dynamics may be applied. In the present work, analysing the time series of small earthquakes, the concept of natural time chi was used and the results revealed that the approach to criticality itself can be manifested by the probability density function (PDF) of kappa(1) calculated over an appropriate statistical ensemble. Here, kappa(1) is the variance kappa(1)(=-(2)) resulting from the power spectrum of a function defined as Phi(omega)= summation operator(k=1)(N) p(k) exp(iomegachi(k)), where p(k) is the normalized energy of the k-th small earthquake and omega the natural frequency. This PDF exhibits a maximum at kappa(1) asymptotically equal to 0.070 a few days before the main shock. Examples are presented, referring to the magnitude 6 approximately 7 class earthquakes that occurred in Greece.  相似文献

We study the optimal distance in networks, l(opt), defined as the length of the path minimizing the total weight, in the presence of disorder. Disorder is introduced by assigning random weights to the links or nodes. For strong disorder, where the maximal weight along the path dominates the sum, we find that l(opt) approximately N(1/3) in both Erdos-Rényi (ER) and Watts-Strogatz (WS) networks. For scale-free (SF) networks, with degree distribution P(k) approximately k(-lambda), we find that l(opt) scales as N((lambda-3)/(lambda-1)) for 3 or =4. The ratio of the proton's elastic electromagnetic form factors, G(E(p))/G(M(p)), was obtained by measuring P(t) and P(l), the transverse and the longitudinal recoil proton polarization, respectively. For elastic e-->p-->ep-->, G(E(p))/G(M(p)) is proportional to P(t)/P(l). Simultaneous measurement of P(t) and P(l) in a polarimeter provides good control of the systematic uncertainty. The results for the ratio G(E(p))/G(M(p)) show a systematic decrease as Q2 increases from 0.5 to 3.5 GeV2, indicating for the first time a definite difference in the spatial distribution of charge and magnetization currents in the proton.  相似文献
