This paper describes an analytical approach to investigate the origin of oxalate films on marble. Calcium oxalate films were collected on buildings of historical importance in Lucca and Pisa (Italy) and characterised by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy (equipped with diamond cell), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The morphology of the films was investigated by optical and electronic microscopy. FTIR analyses highlighted the presence of calcium oxalate (both as whewellite and weddellite), gypsum, calcite, nitrates, silicates and apatite, while EDX maps showed the distribution of elements. Several samples showed traces of organic compounds, identified by GC-MS as paraffin wax, lipids of animal origin and egg. The correlation between organic material and oxalate contents suggests the origin of the films from degradation processes of past surface treatment.  相似文献

Unlike surfactants considered in previous studies, when phosphatidylcholine (PC) monolayers collapse at constant surface tension to form a 3D bulk phase, surface area decreases at rates that slow. The different kinetics could result from collapse by a distinct mechanism. Rather than the transfer of molecules all along the interface between the monolayer and bulk phase, PC films can collapse by the folding and subsequent sliding of a bilayer over the monolayer. By this mechanism, molecules can transfer to collapsed trilayers through a locus of constant size. In this article, we use the theory of nucleation and growth to show analytically that during collapse, the area can decrease at rates that decelerate when each individual structure grows through a region of fixed dimensions. We also show that binary films of 30% dihydrocholesterol (dchol) and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC), which have previously been shown to form a homogeneous monolayer from which trilayer disks grow through a point, collapse with rates of area decay that slow, in agreement with our analytical expressions.  相似文献

The features of surface structuring during tensile drawing of PET films with deposited nanothick coatings are studied. In contrast to our earlier studies, this investigation is focused on the study of nonmetallic coatings (carbon deposited by vacuum sputtering and modified silica deposited via evaporation from the solution). In both cases, the tensile drawing of the supporting polymer is accompanied by the fragmentation of deposited coatings on PET films and by the development of regular surface patterns. The above features (i) demonstrate the general character of the phenomena occurring during tensile drawing of the polymer films and (ii) have allowed the first quantitative estimation of the strain-strength characteristics of the deposited coatings (modified silica gel) in nanoscale layers.  相似文献

The large ultraviolet spectrograph for analysis in vacuum (VUV spectrograph) developed by ONERA and described in a previous article, has been used for multielements quantitative analysis: in pure titanium, concentrations of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon have been determined as well as silicon and iron impurities; in titanium-based alloys, addition metals at high concentration, Al, V, Mo, Zr, Si, have also been determined simultaneously with the gaseous elements and impurities. The analytical lines located between 200 and 2600 Å and corresponding to highly ionized atoms (II to VI) have been selected. The stability of the equipment has been tested and the repeatability of results has been investigated. This new analytical technique allows the study of various surface phenomena such as the variations in oxygen, nitrogen and carbon concentrations with a resolution in depth of a few microns. The method allows it to envisage the quantitative analysis of surface phenomena on metal films with a thickness below one micron.  相似文献

A series of vapor-deposited poly(amic acid) (PAA) films were exposed to dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) vapors to investigate sorption kinetics and surface smoothing phenomena. Gravimetric sorption and secondary-ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) results are both consistent with frontal (case II) diffusion. These experiments suggest that the solvent front is defined by a sharp interface that delineates the swollen material from the unswollen material. Solvent-vapor smoothing was studied by first depositing PAA onto rough aluminum surfaces, and then, during solvent-vapor exposure, the surface topology was continuously monitored using a light interference microscope. The resulting time-dependent power spectra indicate that high-frequency defects smooth faster than low-frequency defects. This frequency dependence was further investigated by depositing PAA onto a series of sinusoidal surfaces and exposing them to solvent vapor inside a flow channel. The sinusoidal amplitudes decay exponentially with time, with decay constants that are proportional to the surface frequency. To explain the physics of surface smoothing, a two-parameter model is presented and agrees qualitatively with experimental data.  相似文献

The results of long-term researches of thin films prepared from tetraethoxysilane-derived sols containing inorganic and organic additives are systematized and analyzed. These additives give to films certain physicochemical properties for their application in electronic techniques, optics, power engineering, in biological technologies etc. The influence both inorganic (salts, acids) and organic (polyols, polyionenes, epoxy resin) additives on rheological properties and aggregate stability of sols as well as films surface morphology is minutely considered. The explanations of phenomena during film formation, including spin-coating process, are given. Essential influence of temperature and humidity on films surface morphology is shown. Influence of heat treatment modes on structure and composition of films is analyzed. Recommendations about optimization of thin films sol–gel processing are offered.  相似文献

Optical reflectivity studies on free-standing liquid crystal films above the bulk smectic temperature range have revealed different melting phenomena. Our measurements are performed on tilted smectic phases (smectic C*, smectic C) using optical microscopy in polarized light in order to visualize the changes of the film structure. We observe the formation of twodimensional defect structures from string-like lines in very thick (about 1000 layers) as well as in thin (about 20 layers) films. In thick films these structures nucleate around the temperature of the bulk smectic-cholesteric phase transition, while in thin films the formation of the defects occurs well above this temperature and just before the thinning transitions. In thick and intermediate thickness films, cholesteric or nematic droplets and a ‘quasi-smectic’ structure are observed. The films exhibiting the ‘quasi-smectic’ structure definitely exist at higher temperatures than the smectic films with the same thickness.  相似文献

The capillary rise and Wilhelmy plate methods have been used to study the "surface tension" of water marbles encapsulated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powders of 1-, 35-, and 100-μm particle size. With the capillary rise technique, a glass capillary tube was inserted into a water marble to measure the capillary rise of the water. The Laplace pressure exerted by the water marble was directly measured by comparing the heights of the capillary rise from the marble and from a flat water surface in a beaker. An equation based on Marmur's model was proposed to calculate the water marble surface tension. This method does not require the water contact angle with the supporting solid surface to be considered; it is therefore a simple but efficient method for determining liquid marble surface tension. The Wilhelmy method was used to measure the surface tension of a flat water surface covered by PTFE powder. This method offers a new angle for investigating liquid marble shell properties. A discussion on the nature and the realistic magnitude of liquid marble surface tension is offered.  相似文献

Research work using a compact and portable fiber optic mid-infrared reflectance spectrometer has been carried out to study surface materials on marble, first on laboratory reference models and then on historical objects. The laboratory research has shown that the complex optical reflectance phenomena of layered samples can be interpreted in terms of the nature of the compounds present (sulfates, oxalates, phosphates, resins, waxes and proteins were studied) even with a very low signal overlapping with the strong carbonate reflectance. The portable instrument was used for in situ examination of the surface condition of two Italian marble works of art: the Deposizione dalla Croce by Benedetto Antelami in the Parma cathedral and the David by Michelangelo in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Firenze.  相似文献

肾结石形成与肾上皮细胞膜损伤密切相关, 但细胞膜损伤后的微结构及其与肾结石微晶粘附的分子机制仍不清楚. 本文采用经草酸钾处理后存在缺陷的二棕榈酰磷酯酰胆碱(DPPC)的LB膜为模型, 采用原子力显微镜(AFM)、荧光显微镜和扫描电子显微镜(SEM)研究了模型膜的缺陷畴区及其对一水草酸钙(COM)晶体生长的促进作用. LB膜内圆形的缺陷畴区可以诱导圆形COM晶体图形生成, 圆形晶体图形的直径从3 mm到150 mm不等. 在圆形区域内, 单个COM晶体的尺寸大都在1~3 μm, 以针状、四边形或不规则的形状存在; 而在同等条件下正常LB膜诱导的COM晶体没有圆形聚集现象, 单个COM晶体在LE/LC相边界生长, 其尺寸显著增加至5~10 mm. 不同性质LB膜促进COM成核和生长的强弱依次为: 经草酸钾处理的LB膜缺陷畴区>>正常LB膜的LC/LE边界>正常LB膜非边界区域>>无膜诱导. 从缺陷LB膜的活性位点及其对COM晶体成核的促进作用等方面讨论了上述实验结果.  相似文献

Allyltriethylammonium bromide (ATAB) was covalently attached to the surface of hydrogen‐terminated boron‐doped diamond (BDD) thin films using a photochemical method to fabricate positively charged electrode surfaces. The anodic current for oxalate oxidation both in cyclic voltammetry and in flow‐injection analysis with amperometry was found to be up to two times larger at ATAB‐modified BDD (ATAB‐BDD) than at an unmodified BDD electrode, which may be based on the electrostatic interaction between the oxalate anion and the electrode surface. In addition, the stability of the electrochemical detection of oxalate was improved at the ATAB‐BDD electrode compared to the unmodified electrode.  相似文献

The flow behavior of the near-surface region of polystyrene films was studied via the decay kinetics of imprinted corrugation gratings at elevated temperatures. The speed of the decay is the result of a balance between surface tension, on the one hand, and viscous drag, on the other. Depth profiling is possible because the penetration depth of a surface wave is proportional to its wavelength. From the dependence of the decay rate on the penetration depth one concludes that the surface region displays an increased molecular mobility. Modulation phenomena that take place during electron spin echo signal decay have long been used in structural studies of free radicals and their environment. These phenomena are based on coherent dynamic effects, arising from simultaneous excitation (by microwave pulses) of two or more transitions in the EPR spectrum. Recently, a new source of stimulated electron spin echo (ESE) modulation was discovered due to spontaneous changes in the magnetic parameters of radicals during the operation of the pulse sequence. For monoradicals, these changes are caused by intramolecular motions. For radical pairs, additional mechanisms are longitudinal relaxation of spin counterparts and transformations of the paramagnetic partners during chemical reactions. Promising applications of this phenomenon to structural studies of radicals and radical pairs in solids and to investigations of their mobility and chemical transformations are considered.  相似文献

The facade of the church of the Pavia Charterhouse, built at the end of the 15th century, shows outstanding decorative features made of different stone materials, such as marbles, breccias and sandstones. Magnificent ornamental elements are made of thin lead sheets, and some marble slabs are inlaid with them. Metal elements are shaped in complex geometric and phytomorphic design, to form a Greek fret in black contrasting with the white Carrara marble. Lead pins were fixed to the back of the thin lead sheets with the aim of attaching the metal elements to the marble; in so doing the pins and the lead sheets constitute a single piece of metal. In some areas, lead elements have been lost, and they have been substituted with a black plaster, matching the colour of the metal. To the authors' knowledge, this kind of decorative technique is rare, and confirms the refinement of Renaissance Lombard architecture. This work reports on the results of an extensive survey of the white, orange and yellowish layers, which are present on the external surface of the lead. The thin lead sheets have been characterized and their state of conservation has been studied with the aid of Optical Microscopy, SEM-EDS, FTIR and Raman analyses. Lead sulphate, lead carbonates and oxides have been identified as decay products.  相似文献

Thin liquid films arise in many technological applications and biological phenomena. They also present a fascinating object of study, because of a rich interplay between capillarity, hydrodynamics, interfacial transport phenomena and interfacial rheology, as well as the effects of interaction forces when films thin down to molecular thicknesses. Recent advances in experimental techniques have given further insights in the variety of physical phenomena, which can occur. These techniques are briefly reviewed. How these techniques can be utilised is illustrated by recent studies addressing the effect of interfacial rheological stresses on drainage, the interplay between capillarity and hydrodynamics during film retraction, and the solutocapillary stabilisation of films. Finally, we briefly discuss the challenges of conducting drainage measurements at high and varied capillary numbers and how these could be overcome by the combined use of experiments and simulations.  相似文献

Several techniques have been applied for the characterization of three PET films surfaces: homopolymer PET film, corona treated PET film and a poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol) film. The objective of this work is to investigate and to apply precise and mutually complementary techniques which give detailled information about theses surfaces, as there are few papers with global and conclusive results. The film surfaces were investigated to support the development of new products and envisage new apllications to the existent films. Scanning electron micrographs, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and multiple internal reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-MIR) spectra show that the chemical composition, topography and surface roughness of the films are different. The corona-treated PET film shows high surface tension value due to the major contribution on the polar groups and oxidation level acquired. The copolyester film is much less crystalline than the other films analyzed, as demonstrated by refractive index measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The amorphous structures obtained and the high tension level of the corona-treated films provide a better understanding of the adhesion phenomena. In view of results obtained, one can assume that corona treated films owing to its higher surface tension and films with CHDM owing to its surface amorphization should provide manufacturing industries better processing conditions than films without surface treatment and also higher levels of adhesion to paints and coatings.  相似文献

Electrostatic phenomena occurring at the interface between metal/organic and organic/organic materials are discussed from the viewpoint of dielectrics physics. Focusing on two important origins of surface polarization phenomena, orientational ordering of polar molecules and displacement of excess charges at the interface, surface polarization phenomena of organic thin films are discussed. To define the orientational order of polar molecules, orientational order parameters are introduced, and surface polarization due to the alignment of dipoles is expressed. The generation of Maxwell displacement current (MDC) and optical second harmonic generation (SHG) that are specific for surface organic monomolecular films are discussed, and some experimental evidence are shown. As an extension of the concept of surface Fermi level introduced to discuss the electrostatic phenomena due to electron transfer at the interface between metal-organic insulators, the surface Fermi level is extended to the discussion on the electrostatic phenomena of organic semiconductor materials on metals. In this paper, some experimental evidence of surface polarization originating from polar molecules and displacement of excess charges are shown. After that, with consideration of these surface phenomena, single electron tunneling of organic films are briefly discussed in association with surface polarization phenomena.  相似文献

由于碳酸盐矿物的质地特点,石灰岩文物在露天环境中极易发生表面溶蚀,其上赋存文化信息的文字、纹饰和符号等雕刻痕迹也随之湮灭,对其文物价值造成了严重减损。从耐候性和兼容性角度考虑,无机保护材料显然更适合于石灰岩文物的表面防护处理。近年来,基于草酸钙、磷灰石和碳酸钙等钙基材料的石灰岩文物表面防护研究逐渐兴起并开始走向应用。本文就上述钙基保护材料的特点、防护膜制备和应用实践等做了归纳和评述,以期为石灰岩文物保护研究提供参考和借鉴。  相似文献

We propose herein a method to study local surface charge dissipation in dielectric films using force spectroscopy technique of atomic force microscopy. By using a normalization procedure and considering an analytical expression of the tip‐sample interaction force, we could estimate the characteristic time decay of the dissipation process. This approach is completely independent of the atomic force microscopy tip geometry and considerably reduces the amount of experimental data needed for the calculation compared with other techniques. The feasibility of the method was demonstrated in a freshly cleaved mica surface, in which the local charge dissipation after cleavage followed approximately a first‐order exponential law with the characteristic time decay of approximately 7–8 min at 30% relative humidity (RH) and 2–3.5 min at 48% RH.
