We numerically calculate and analyse the electromagnetic fields, optical intensity distributions, polarization states and orbital angular momentum of some elliptic hollow modes in an elliptic dielectric hollow fiber (EDHF) by using Mathieu functions, and also calculate the optical potential of the blue-detuned eHE11 mode evanescent-light wave for 85Rb atoms, including the position-dependent van der Waals potential, and discuss briefly some potential applications of our EDHF in atom and molecule optics, etc. Our study shows that the vector electric field distributions of the odd modes in the cross section of the EDHF are the same as that of the even modes and with different boundary ellipses by rotating an angle of π/2, and the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of single HE (EH) mode is exactly equal to zero, while that of dual-mode in the EDHF is fractional in h, and has a sinusoidal oscillation as z varies. The EDHF can be used to produce various elliptic hollow beams, even to generate and study various atomic vortices with a fractional charge and its fractional quantum Hall effect in atomic Bose--Einstein condensate, and so on.  相似文献

The propagation of higher modes, such as the LP11 mode, in optical nanofibers using the exponentially tapered optical fiber as a basic model is investigated. In order to preserve the LP11 mode in the downtaper as far as the nanofiber waist, the effect of varying the cladding-core radius ratio on the LP11 adiabatic criterion is modeled. A Laguerre-Gaussian beam is created in free space using a spatial light modulator (SLM) and coupled to a few-mode fiber. This device allows convenient switching between the fundamental and LP11 fiber modes. By selecting a few-mode fiber with a relatively low cladding-core ratio, the propagation of the LP11 mode down to a submicron waist has been maintained. Furthermore, by observing the transmission profile during tapering, it is possible to decisively terminate the pulling process in order to eliminate the two degenerate HE21 modes of the LP11 mode. As a result, a nanofiber can be fabricated through which only the TE01 and TM01 components of the LP11 mode propagate. Such a nanofiber has promising applications in the area of mode interference for controlled particle trapping sites.  相似文献

Acousto-optic interaction in optical fiber is examined from the perspective of copropagating optical and acoustic vortex modes. Calculation of the acousto-optic coupling coefficient between different optical modes leads to independent conservation of spin and orbital angular momentum of the interacting photons and phonons. We show that the orbital angular momentum of the acoustic vortex can be transferred to a circularly polarized fundamental optical mode to form a stable optical vortex in the fiber carrying orbital angular momentum. The technique provides a useful way of generating stable optical vortices in the fiber medium.  相似文献

A higher-order Poincaré sphere and Stokes parameter representation of the higher-order states of polarization of vector vortex beams that includes radial and azimuthal polarized cylindrical vector beams is presented. The higher-order Poincaré sphere is constructed by naturally extending the Jones vector basis of plane wave polarization in terms of optical spin angular momentum to the total optical angular momentum that includes higher dimensional orbital angular momentum. The salient properties of this representation are illustrated by its ability to describe the higher-order modes of optical fiber waveguides, more exotic vector beams, and a higher-order Pancharatnam-Berry geometric phase.  相似文献

Methods for beam shaping with nonzero orbital angular momentum are studied using diffraction optical elements with the purpose of developing a source of single-photon states based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion of light in the LiNbO3 crystal in the cavity resonator. The probability of the coincidence of the number of photocounts in detecting signal and idle fields under pumping by a beam with the orbital angular momentum is simulated.  相似文献

We demonstrate simultaneous generation, propagation and detection of optical vortices using all fiber-optic system. A fiber-optic Y-coupler was used for generating spherical and doughnut beams, simultaneously. Gaussian (TEM00) beam emitted from CW red He-Ne laser is coupled into the fiber coupler and is converted into vortex beam via second arm of fiber which propagates with azimuthal phase dependence having well defined orbital angular momentum. The phase structure of vortex beam was detected by interfering both the beams using simple fiber-optic interferometer. The present all fiber-optic system might find application for detecting, sensing physical parameters and is simple and cost effective for generating and detecting optical vortices.  相似文献

由于涡旋光具有轨道角动量,将它应用于光纤通信领域可以有效提高信息传输速率.设计了一种环形光子晶体光纤,利用COMSOL Multiphysics软件对其涡旋光TE01,HE±21和TM01模式特性进行模拟计算,它们之间有效折射率差分别为4.59×10~(-4)和3.62×10~(-4);其中,TE01模式的涡旋光在入射光波长范围为1650—1950 nm时,色散值在44.18—45.83 ps·nm~(-1)·km~(-1)之间平坦;入射光波长在1550 nm时,TE01模式的涡旋光的非线性系数为1.37 W~(-1)·km~(-1).该结构的光子晶体光纤的涡旋光具有损耗小、色散平坦等特性,对光纤中传输涡旋光、将涡旋光应用于超连续谱等方面的研究具有重要意义.  相似文献

The transformation of the angular momentum of an optical eddy in a weakly directing perturbed optical fiber is analyzed within the spin-orbit operator representation. The case of fibers with anisotropy of the core and cladding materials and the case of fibers with an elliptic cross section are considered. The spectrum of polarization corrections to the scalar propagation constant is determined for fibers of two types. For both the strongly anisotropic and elliptic fibers, the spin angular momentum of the linearly polarized LV eddy is suppressed and the orbital angular momentum is characterized by simple oscillations with a beating length dependent only on the spin-orbit parameter of an unperturbed fiber. The orbital and spin angular momenta of the circularly polarized CV eddy in the anisotropic fiber interchange in the elliptic fiber. The orbital angular momentum can be completely restored in the strongly anisotropic fiber, whereas only the spin angular momentum is completely restored in the elliptic fiber.  相似文献

An exact Wigner representation of optical spatial modes carrying orbital angular momentum is found in closed form by exploiting the underlying SU(2) Lie-group algebra of their associated Poincaré sphere. Orthogonality relations and observables of these states are obtained within the phase space picture. Development of geometric phases on mode transformations is also elucidated.  相似文献

We propose an approach to efficiently generate and multiplex optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes in a fiber with a ring refractive index profile by using multiple coherent inputs from a Gaussian mode. By controlling the phase relationship of the multiple inputs, one can selectively generate OAM modes of different states l. By controlling both the amplitude and phase of the multiple inputs, multiple OAM modes can be generated simultaneously without additional loss coming from multiplexing. We show, by simulation, the generation of OAM modes (OAM state |l|<3) with mode purity greater than 99%. The power loss of generating and multiplexing seven modes is about 35%. A transmitter for an OAM-based mode-division multiplexing system is proposed based on the discrete Fourier transform between the data carried by the multiple inputs and the data carried by the OAM modes. The experimental implementation of the proposed approach could be achieved by integrating ring fiber, multicore fiber, and photonic integrated circuit technology.  相似文献

We demonstrate a highly efficient, broadband fiber-optic intermodal converter. The technique relies on a long period grating mechanically induced in a two-mode fiber. A compact, portable apparatus was designed and fabricated, where period-variable metallic corrugation is implemented to form periodic micro-bends along the fiber. The coupling strength between the interacting fiber modes and the grating period can be tuned continuously and individually using two control knobs in the apparatus. Experimental results show that the complete coupling between the LP01 and LP11 modes is achieved, which is confirmed by an observed over-coupling while increasing the grating strength. For the short fiber length of <1.9 cm (33 grating periods), large band-rejection of −32.5 dB was obtained at resonance. The band rejection efficiency over 98.6% have been achieved in the entire communication C-band. As the grating strength increased, two over-couplings were observed at resonance, which indicates the high efficiency of the device. Experimental results are confirmed by our numerical simulations.  相似文献

The intermodal interference of the LP01 and LP11 modes and determination of the equalization wavelength in the liquid-core optical fiber is presented. Theoretically was described the weakly guiding optical fiber with the constant core radius, where equalization wavelength is a function of the refractive indices of core and cladding. The dependence of equalization wavelength on refractive indices is employed for measurement of temperature. Temperature sensitivity using intermodal interference of modes LP01 and LP11 was documented in the liquid-core optical fiber consisted of fused silica as cladding and medicinal oil as a core. In the investigated temperature range the intermodal interference allows the temperature measurement with resolution of about 0.02 °C.  相似文献

We propose methods for the unambiguous discrimination of quantum states encoded in the spatial profile of light modes, in particular in the orbital angular momentum of light. Perfect discrimination between quantum states is possible only between orthogonal states of a known basis system. Generalised measurement strategies have been developed for the distinction between non-orthogonal states in a two-dimensional state space, e.g. the polarisation of light. Here we consider information encoded in superpositions of orbital angular momentum states of light, defined within an infinite-dimensional state space. Generalised measurements will be an important addition to quantum communication in high-dimensional spaces.  相似文献

Based on the Rytov approximation, we analyze the effects of the turbulence on the crosstalk and spatial spread of orbital angular momentum modes of the Laguerre-Gaussian Schell (LGS) beams. Our results show that the spatial incoherence of light source increases the crosstalk effect of atmospheric turbulence among the orbital angular momentum states and the spatial spread of modes. The mode weight decays with the mode quality factor increasing and the refractive index structure parameter increasing. The quality factor of LGS modes increases with the increasing of refractive index structure parameter in approximate linear form.  相似文献

超纠缠近年来受到人们广泛的关注,其在量子信息和量子通信领域具有非常重要的作用.在Liu等(2014 Phys. Rev. Lett. 113 170501)的工作中,他们利用二类相位匹配的非简并光学参量放大器获得了约1.00 dB的同时具有轨道角动量和自旋角动量纠缠的连续变量超纠缠态.在此基础上,本文通过进一步分析抽运模式与下转换模式间的纠缠关系,优化了抽运空间构造.实验结果表明,相比Liu等利用高斯基模做抽运场,使用优化的抽运模式时轨道角动量纠缠和自旋角动量纠缠的不可分度分别提高了96.2%和96.3%,最终将超纠缠态的纠缠度提高到了(4.00±0.02) dB,为连续变量超纠缠态的进一步应用奠定了基础.  相似文献

提出了一种基于环形芯铒离子部分掺杂光纤的涡旋光纤放大器。针对该掺铒光纤的放大特性,研究了光纤长度、掺铒浓度与抽运功率对信号模式增益特性的影响。研究结果表明,该光纤放大器能够支持22个轨道角动量模式稳定传输,且C波段(1530~1565 nm)所有信号模式增益大于23 dB,信噪比高于27 dB,差分模式增益小于0.015 dB。所提出的基于环形芯光纤的涡旋光纤放大器具有支持轨道角动量模式数量多、差分模式增益低、信噪比高的优势,对于OAM复用长距离传输系统中的在线放大具有重要参考价值。  相似文献

An all-fiber femtosecond vortex laser based on common fiber components is constructed. It can produce femtosecond orbital angular momentum modes whose time pulse width is 398 fs. The topological charge of output orbital angular momentum(OAM) modes from this laser can be adjusted among 0, +1, and-1 easily while it is also easy to convert between continuous OAM modes and pulse OAM modes.  相似文献

Spontaneous decay rates of atoms into guided modes of an optical nanofiber are found for atomic transitions between the hyperfine structure sublevels. The decay rates are evaluated for the hyperfine structure transitions in Rb atoms. The efficiency of the guided mode excitation by spontaneous decay of the specific hyperfine atomic states is examined for both the fundamental fiber mode HE11 and the higher-order modes TE01, TM01, and HE21.  相似文献

A dual-guided photonic crystal fiber(PCF) with low and flattened dispersion is designed, which can support a large number of orbital angular momentum(OAM) modes. The properties of the proposed PCF are systematically analyzed through the finite element method. The results show that the proposed PCF can support up to 84 OAM modes with 600 nm bandwidth ranging from 1000 to1600 nm. All values of mode purity are above 91.7%, the isolation parameters are larger than 67 dB and the maximum value up to 145 dB, the lowest confinement loss is only 5×10~(-13) dB·m~(-1).More importantly, the values of dispersion for all modes are less than 40 ps·km~(-1)·nm~(-1), and the lowest dispersion variation is only 0.7 ps·km~(-1)·nm~(-1). These superior optical properties make the proposed PCF have great advantage in stable transmissions of data and long-distance optical fiber communication system with large capacity.  相似文献
