A series of ABA amphiphilic triblock copolymers possessing polystyrene (PS) central hydrophobic blocks, one group with “short” PS blocks (DP = 54–86) and one with “long” PS blocks (DP = 183–204) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. The outer hydrophilic blocks were various lengths of poly(oligoethylene glycol methyl ether) methacrylate, a comb‐like polymer. The critical aggregation concentrations were recorded for certain block copolymer samples and were found to be in the range circa 10−9 mol L−1 for short PS blocks and circa 10−12 mol L−1 for long PS blocks. Dilute aqueous solutions were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and demonstrated that the short PS block copolymers formed spherical micelles and the long PS block copolymers formed predominantly spherical micelles with smaller proportions of cylindrical and Y‐branched cylindrical micelles. Dynamic light scattering analysis results agreed with the TEM observations demonstrating variations in micelle size with PS and POEGMA chain length: the hydrodynamic diameters (DH) of the shorter PS block copolymer micelles increased with increasing POEGMA block lengths while maintaining similar PS micellar core diameters (DC); in contrast the values of DH and DC for the longer PS block copolymer micelles decreased. Surface‐pressure isotherms were recorded for two of the samples and these indicated close packing of a short PS block copolymer at the air–water interface. The aggregate solutions were demonstrated to be stable over a 38‐day period with no change in aggregate size or noticeable precipitation. The cloud point temperatures of certain block copolymer aggregate solutions were measured and found to be in the range 76–93 °C; significantly these were ∼11 °C higher in temperature than those of POEGMA homopolymer samples with similar chain lengths. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, micellar structures, and multifunctional sensory properties of new conjugated rod‐coil block copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(2‐(di methylamino)ethylmethacrylate)(P3HT‐b‐PDMAEMA). The new copolymers, synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of P3HT macroinitiator, consisted PDMAEMA coil lengths of 43, 65, and 124 repeating units. All the P3HT‐b‐PDMAEMA copolymers exhibit a similar low critical solution temperature in water around 33 °C. The micellar structures of the synthesized polymers were characterized by AFM, TEM, and dynamic light scattering, by varying temperature, pH, and water/THF composition. The micelles of P3HT20b‐PDMAEMA43 in water had a reversible size change from 75 ± 5 nm to 132 ± 5 nm on heating from 25 to 55 °C and reduced to the original size during cooling. In addition, the micellar size also showed a significant pH dependence, changing from 67 ± 8 nm (pH = 12) to 222 ± 6 nm (pH = 4), depending on the protonation of the PDMAEMA blocks and their electrostatic repulsion. The micellar structure of three P3HT‐b‐PDMAEMA copolymers changed from spheres, to vesicles, and finally to larger sphere micelles as the solvent composition varied from 0 to 100 wt % water in the mixed solvent. The different micellar structures of P3HT20b‐PDMAEMA43 solution led to a red‐shift on the absorption or photoluminescence spectra and exhibited the emission colors of yellow, orange, red, and dark red with increasing the water content. This study suggested that new copolymers had potential applications as multifunctional sensory materials toward temperature, pH, and solvent. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three amphiphilic rod‐coil diblock copolymers, poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline‐b‐γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PEOz‐b‐PBLG), incorporating the same‐length PEOz block length and various lengths of their PBLG blocks, were synthesized through a combining of living cationic and N‐carboxyanhydride (NCA) ring‐opening polymerizations. In the bulk, these block copolymers display thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior. The self‐assembled aggregates that formed from these diblock copolymers in aqueous solution exhibited morphologies that differed from those obtained in α‐helicogenic solvents, that is, solvents in which the PBLG blocks adopt rigid α‐helix conformations. In aqueous solution, the block copolymers self‐assembled into spherical micelles and vesicular aggregates because of their amphiphilic structures. In helicogenic solvents (in this case, toluene and benzyl alcohol), the PEOz‐b‐PBLG copolymers exhibited rod‐coil chain properties, which result in a diverse array of aggregate morphologies (spheres, vesicles, ribbons, and tube nanostructures) and thermoreversible gelation behavior. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization‐dominated and microphase separation/crystallization‐coexisted structure of the all‐conjugated diblock copolymers poly(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐p‐phenylene)‐block‐(3‐hexylthiophene) (PPP‐b‐P3HT, denoted as BmTn) with different block compositions was affected by the aggregation state of the diblock copolymers in solvents with different solubilities. For B34T66, B62T38, and B75T25, the coexistence of microphase separation and crystallization was obtained in good solvent with few crystalline aggregates. For B34T66 with a longer P3HT block, densely stacked fiber crystal structures in thin films were found by using marginal solvents with crystalline aggregations in solutions. As for B62T38 and B75T25 with shorter P3HT block and longer PPP block, crystal structures were obtained by the use of solvents with a much larger solubility difference of the two blocks. Thus, microphase‐separated structures are prone to form from solutions with coil conformation and fiber crystals from solutions with larger aggregates, which resulted in the increased crystallinity. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic diblock copolymers that contained hydrophilic poly[bis(potassium carboxylatophenoxy)phosphazene] segments and hydrophobic polystyrene sections were synthesized via the controlled cationic polymerization of Cl3P?NSiMe3 with a polystyrenyl–phosphoranimine as a macromolecular terminator. These block copolymers self‐associated in aqueous media to form micellar structures which were investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. The size and shape of the micelles were not affected by the introduction of different monovalent cations (Li+, K+, Na+, and Cs+) into the stable micellar solutions. However, exposure to divalent cations induced intermicellar crosslinking through carboxylate groups, which caused precipitation of the ionically crosslinked aggregates from solution. This micelle‐coupling behavior was reversible: the subsequent addition of monovalent cations caused the redispersion of the polystyrene‐block‐poly[bis(potassium carboxylatophenoxy)phosphazene] (PS–KPCPP) block copolymers into a stable micellar solution. Aqueous micellar solutions of PS–KPCPP copolymers also showed pH‐dependent behavior. These attributes make PS–KPCPP block copolymers suitable for studies of guest retention and release in response to ion charge and pH. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on novel diblock copolymers of poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) and poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVPON) (PVCL‐b‐PVPON) with well‐defined block lengths synthesized by the MADIX/reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. We show that the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of the block copolymers are controllable over the length of PVCL and PVPON segments. All of the diblock copolymers dissolve molecularly in aqueous solutions when the temperature is below the LCST and form spherical micellar or vesicular morphologies when temperature is raised above the LCST. The size of the self‐assembled structures is controlled by the molar ratio of PVCL and PVPON segments. The synthesized homopolymers and diblock copolymers are demonstrated to be nontoxic at 0.1–1 mg mL?1 concentrations when incubated with HeLa and HEK293 cancer cells for various incubation times and have potential as nanovehicles for drug delivery. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis, morphology, and charge‐transporting characteristics of new crystalline–crystalline diblock copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐block‐stearyl acrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PSA). Three different diblock copolymers, P1 , P2 , and P3 , with P3HT/PSA polymerization degree block ratios of 60/26, 60/50, and 60/360, respectively, were prepared for investigating the morphology‐property relationship and the dependence of optoelectronic properties on the block copolymer structure. Small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering indicated the presence of both P3HT and PSA crystalline domains and the presence of microphase separation among blocks. The transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy results revealed that the diblock copolymers cast from chlorobenzene, tended to form needle‐like morphologies. The field‐effect mobilities of the diblock copolymers deposited on untreated SiO2 substrates, decreased with increasing PSA block length. In a sharp contrast, the mobilities enhanced with increasing PSA content when the P3HT‐b‐PSA was deposited on phenyltrichlorosilane (PTS)‐treated substrates. The copolymers with a 60/360 P3HT/PSA ratio showed a good mobility of 4 × 10?3 cm2 V?1 s?1 and a high on/off ratio of 7 × 106 on PTS‐treated substrates. This study highlighted the importance of the block ratio, the substrate and self‐assembly structures on the charge transport characteristics of the crystalline–crystalline conjugated diblock copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermosensitive anionic block copolymers of sodium 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate (AMPS) and N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAM) with different block lengths were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Controlled polymerization was achieved by using ethyl 2‐chloropropionate (ECP) as initiator and CuCl/CuCl2/tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl)amine (Me6TREN) catalytic system in DMF:water 50:50 (v/v) mixtures at 20 °C. Blocks lengths ranging from 36 to 98 repeating units were obtained. The association properties in aqueous solutions at different NaCl ionic strengths were studied as a function of temperature and polymer concentration by dynamic light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, and energy‐filtered transmission electron microscopy. The block copolymers with a higher pNIPAAM/pAMPS ratio formed spherical core‐shell type micelles independently of the ionic strength. The block copolymers with lower pNIPAAM/pAMPS ratio formed core‐shell type micelles at high ionic strength. Larger particles were observed at low ionic strength, which could be due to the formation of vesicles or compound micelles/micellar clusters. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The BAB‐type triblock copolymers composed of a central poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO, nPEO = 1 000) block and two poly[(D ,L ‐lactic acid)‐co‐(glycolic acid)] end blocks with molecular weights between 900 and 1 600 exhibited an interesting phase transition behavior. The copolymer aqueous solution can form micelles with PLGA loops in the core and a PEO shell and groups of micelles because of bridging between micelles caused by the PLGA blocks with raising temperature. A possible micellar gelation mechanism was suggested.  相似文献

Conjugated block copolymers consisting of poly(3‐hexyl thiophene) (P3HT) and a thermoresponsive polymer poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) with varying composition have been synthesized by facile click reaction between alkyne terminated P3HT and azide terminated PNIPAM. The composition‐dependent solubility, thermoresponsive property in water, phase behavior, electrochemical, optical, and electronic properties of the block copolymers were systematically investigated. The block copolymers with higher volume fraction of PNIPAM form thermoresponsive spherical micelles with P3HT‐rich crystalline cores and PNIPAM coronas. Both X‐ray and atomic force microscopic studies indicated that the blocks copolymers showed well‐defined microphase separated nanostructures and the structure depended on the composition of the blocks. The electrochemical study of the block copolymers clearly demonstrated that the extent of charge transport through the block copolymer thin film was similar to P3HT homopolymer without any significant change in the band gap. The block copolymers showed improved or similar charge carrier mobility compared with the pure P3HT depending on the composition of the block copolymer. These P3HT‐b‐PNIPAM copolymers were interesting for fabrication of optoelectronic devices capable of thermal and moisture sensing as well as for studying the thermoresponsive colloidal structures of semiconductor amphiphilic systems. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. PFPE‐b‐PVDF and PFPE‐b‐poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) block copolymers [where PFPE, PVDF, VDF, and HFP represent perfluoropolyether, poly(vinylidene fluoride), vinylidene fluoride (or 1,1‐difluoroethylene), and hexafluoropropylene] were synthesized by radical (co)telomerizations of VDF (or VDF and HFP) with an iodine‐terminated perfluoropolyether (PFPE‐I). Di‐tert‐butyl peroxide (DTBP) was used and was shown to act as an efficient thermal initiator. The numbers of VDF and VDF/HFP base units in the block copolymers were assessed with 19F NMR spectroscopy. According to the initial [PFPE‐I]0/[fluoroalkenes]0 and [DTBP]0/[fluoroalkenes]0 molar ratios, fluorinated block copolymers of various molecular weights (1500–30,300) were obtained. The states and thermal properties of these fluorocopolymers were investigated. The compounds containing PVDF blocks with more than 30 VDF units were crystalline, whereas all those containing poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) blocks exhibited amorphous states, whatever the numbers were of the fluorinated base units. All the samples showed negative glass‐transition temperatures higher than that of the starting PFPE. Interestingly, these PFPE‐b‐PVDF and PFPE‐b‐poly(VDF‐co‐HFP) block copolymers exhibited good thermostability. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 160–171, 2003  相似文献

New biodegradable/biocompatible ABC block copolymers, poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(glycidol)‐b‐poly(L ,L ‐lactide) (PEO‐PGly‐PLLA), were synthesized. First, PEO‐b‐poly(1‐ethoxyethylglycidol)‐b‐PLLA was synthesized by a successive anionic ring‐opening copolymerization of ethylene oxide, 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether, and L ,L ‐lactide initiated with potassium 2‐methoxyethanolate. In the second step, the 1‐ethoxyethyl blocking groups of 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether were removed at weakly acidic conditions leaving other blocks intact. The resulting copolymers were composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments joined by short polyglycidol blocks with one hydroxyl group in each monomeric unit. These hydroxyl groups may be used for further copolymer transformations. The PEO‐PGly‐PLLA copolymers with a molecular weight of PLLA blocks below 5000 were water‐soluble. Above the critical micellar concentration (ranging from 0.05 to1.0 g/L, depending on the composition of copolymer), copolymers formed macromolecular micelles with a hydrophobic PLLA core and hydrophilic PEO shell. The diameters of the micelles were about 25 nm. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 3750–3760, 2003  相似文献

The solubility behavior of well‐defined poly(methyl acrylate) homopolymers as well as polystyrene‐block‐poly (methyl acrylate) block copolymers is discussed in this contribution. A solubility screening in ethanol–water solvent mixtures was performed in a high‐throughput manner using parallel turbidimetry revealing upper critical solution temperature behavior for poly(methyl acrylate). Moreover, the self‐assembly behavior of the block copolymers into micellar structures was investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and cryo‐TEM revealing upper critical solution temperature switchability of the micelles, which was evaluated by DLS at different temperatures. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel star‐shaped hard–soft triblock copolymers, 4‐arm poly(styrene)‐block‐poly [poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ethyl methacrylate]‐block‐poly{x‐[(4‐cyano‐4′‐biphenyl) oxy] alkyl methacrylate} (4PS‐PPEGMA‐PMAxLC) (x = 3, 10), with different mesogen spacer length are prepared by atom‐transfer radical polymerization. The star copolymers comprised three different parts: a hard polystyrene (PS) core to ensure the good mechanical property of the solid‐state polymer, and a soft, mobile poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ethyl methacrylate] (PPEGMA) middle sphere responsible for the high ionic conductivity of the solid polyelectrolytes, and a poly{x‐[(4‐cyano‐4′‐biphenyl)oxy]alkyl methacrylate} with a birefringent mesogens at the end of each arm to tuning the electrolytes morphology. The star‐shaped hard–soft block copolymers fusing hard PS core with soft PPEGMA segment can form a flexible and transparent film with dimensional stability. Thermal annealing from the liquid crystalline states allows the cyanobiphenyl mesogens to induce a good assembly of hard and soft blocks, consequently obtaining uniform nanoscale microphase separation morphology, and the longer spacer is more helpful than the shorter one. There the ionic conductivity has been improved greatly by the orderly continuous channel for efficient ion transportation, especially at the elevated temperature. The copolymer 4PS‐PPEGMA‐PMA10LC shows ionic conductivity value of 1.3 × 10?4 S cm?1 (25 °C) after annealed from liquid crystal state, which is higher than that of 4PS‐PPEGMA electrolyte without mesogen groups. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a series of liquid crystalline diblock copolymers, composed of a soft poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) block with a de?ned length and a side-on liquid crystalline poly(3??-acryloyloxypropyl 2,5-di(4?-butyloxybenzoyloxy) benzoate) (P3ADBB) block with different lengths, are synthesised by the atom transfer radical polymerisation. The macromolecular structures, liquid crystalline properties and the microphase-separated morphologies of the diblock copolymer are investigated by 1H NMR, FT-IR, GPC, POM, DSC and TEM. The results show that the well-de?ned diblock copolymers (PDMSn-b-P3ADBBm) possess four different soft/rigid ratios (n = 58, m = 10, 25, 42, 66) and relatively narrow molecular distributions (PDI ≤ 1.30). P3ADBB blocks of the copolymers show nematic sub-phases, which are identical to the mesomorphic behaviour of the homopolymer P3ADBB. After being annealed at 90°C in a vacuum oven for 48 h, the copolymers form a lamellar morphology when m = 10 and morphologies of PDMS spheres embedded in P3ADBB matrix when m = 25, 42 and 66.  相似文献

Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology. The development of the morphology of P3HT‐b‐PFOMA block copolymers was investigated after annealing in solvent vapor and also in supercritical CO2. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Disulfide‐centered star‐shaped poly(ε‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐l ‐lysine)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymers (i.e., A2B4 type Cy‐PZlys‐b‐PEO) were synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization and thiol‐yne chemistry. Their molecular structures and physical properties were characterized in detail by FTIR, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and polarized optical microscope. Despite mainly exhibiting an α‐helix conformation, the inner PZlys blocks within copolymers greatly prohibited the crystallinity of the outer PEO blocks and presented a liquid crystal phase transition behavior in solid state. These block copolymers Cy‐PZlys‐b‐PEO self‐assembled into nearly spherical micelles in aqueous solution, which had a hydrophobic disulfide‐centered PZlys core surrounded by a hydrophilic PEO corona. As monitored by means of DLS and TEM, these micelles were progressively reduced to smaller micelles in 10 mM 1,4‐dithiothreitol at 37 °C and finally became ones with a half size, demonstrating a reduction‐sensitivity. Despite a good drug‐loading property, the DOX‐loaded micelles of Cy‐PZlys‐b‐PEO exhibited a reduction‐triggered drug release profile with an improved burst‐release behavior compared with the linear counterpart. Importantly, this work provides a versatile strategy for the synthesis of the disulfide‐centered star‐shaped polypeptide block copolymers potential for intracellular glutathione‐triggered drug delivery systems. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A bromine capped star‐shaped poly(methyl methacrylate) (S‐PMMA‐Br) was synthesized with CuBr/sparteine/PT‐Br as a catalyst and initiator to polymerize methyl methacrylate (MMA) according to atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Then, with S‐PMMA‐Br as a macroinitiator, a series of new liquid crystal rod–coil star block copolymers with different molecular weights and low polydispersity were obtained by this method. The block architecture {coil‐conformation of the MMA segment and rigid‐rod conformation of 2,5‐bis[(4‐methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl] styrene segment} of the four‐armed rod–coil star block copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR. The liquid‐crystalline behavior of these copolymers was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy. We found that the liquid‐crystalline behavior depends on the molecular weight of the rigid segment; only the four‐armed rod–coil star block copolymers with each arm's Mn,GPC of the rigid block beyond 0.91 × 104 g/mol could form liquid‐crystalline phases above the glass‐transition temperature of the rigid block. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel amphiphilic comb‐dendronized diblock copolymers composed of hydrophobic Percec‐type dendronized polystyrene block and hydrophilic comb‐like poly(ethylene oxide) grafted polymethacrylate P(PEOMA) block were designed and synthesized via two steps of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The comb‐like P(PEOMA) prepared by ATRP of macromonomers (PEOMA) with two different molecular weights (Mn = 300 and 475) were used to initiate the sequent ATRP of dendritic styrene macromonomer (DS). The molecular weights and compositions of the obtained block copolymers were determined by 1H NMR analysis. The copolymers with relatively narrow polydispersities (1.27–1.38) were thus obtained. The bulk properties of comb‐dendronized block copolymers were studied by using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). Similar to dendronized homopolymers, the block copolymers exhibited hexagonal columnar liquid‐crystalline phase structure. By using such amphiphilic comb‐dendronized block copolymers as building blocks, the rich self‐assembly morphologies, such as twisted string, vesicle, and large compound micelle (LCM), were obtained in a mixture of CH3OH and THF. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization behaviors and morphology of asymmetric crystalline–crystalline diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide‐lactide) (PEO‐b‐PLLA) were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and microscopic techniques (polarized optical microscopy (POM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM)). Both blocks of PEO5b‐PLLA16 can be crystallized, which was confirmed by WAXD, while PEO block in PEO5b‐PLLA30 is difficult to crystallize because of the confinement induced by the high glass transition temperature and crystallization of PLLA block with the microphase separation of the block copolymer. Comparing with the crystallization and morphology of PLLA homopolymer and differences between the two copolymers, we studied the influence of PEO block and microphase separation on the crystallization and morphology of PLLA block. The boundary temperature (Tb) was observed, which distinguishes the crystallization into high‐ and low‐temperature ranges, the growth rate and morphology were quite different between the ranges. Crystalline morphologies including banded spherulite, dendritic crystal, and dense branching in PEO5b‐PLLA16 copolymer were formed. The typical morphology of dendritic crystals including two different sectors were observed in PEO5b‐PLLA30 copolymer, which can be explained by secondary nucleation, chain growth direction, and phase separation between the two blocks during the crystallization process. Lozenge‐shaped crystals of PLLA with screw dislocation were also observed employing AFM, but the crystalline morphology of PEO block was not observed using microscopy techniques because of its small size. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
