It is shown that attempts to accurately deduce the magnetic penetration depth λ of overdoped BaFe(1.82)Co(0.18)As? single crystals by transverse-field muon spin rotation (TF μSR) are thwarted by field-induced magnetic order and strong vortex-lattice disorder. We explain how substantial deviations from the magnetic field distribution of a nearly perfect vortex lattice by one or both of these factors is also significant for other iron-arsenic superconductors, and this introduces considerable uncertainty in the values of λ obtained by TF μSR.  相似文献

Transverse-field (TF) muon-spin-relaxation (μSR) and Mössbauer experiments on the uniaxial insulating spin glass Fe2?xTi1+xO5 (x=0.25) have been performed near and below the spin-glass temperature (T g). The effect of a transverse field on the spin-freezing process and spin-glass state has been investigated by measuring the field-and temperature-dependencies of the μSR parameters. Spin-cluster effects signaled by anomalous μ-spin relaxation have been observed in a temperature region just aboveT g. An interpretation supported by recently developed theoretical models addressing non-linear relaxation in an intermediate Griffiths phase is offered.  相似文献

μSR is shown to be a sensitive probe of fluctuating internal magnetic fields in geometrically frustrated magnets. The usefulness of μSR in these systems is illustrated in the case of pyrochlores, in which the antiferromagnetically coupled ions occupy a lattice of corner sharing tetrahedra. Remarkably, one observes a type of spin freezing in Y2Mo2O7 and Tb2Mo2O7 which is similar to that seen in conventional spin glasses, even though there is no detectable structural disorder. Unlike ordinary spin glasses these geometrically frustrated antiferromagnets display unusual low temperature spin dynamics which persist down to the lowest accessible temperatures.  相似文献

We report a new kagome quantum spin liquid candidate Cu_3 Zn(OH)_6 FBr, which does not experience any phase transition down to 50 mK, more than three orders lower than the antiferromagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature(~200 K). A clear gap opening at low temperature is observed in the uniform spin susceptibility obtained from~(19)F nuclear magnetic resonance measurements. We observe the characteristic magnetic field dependence of the gap as expected for fractionalized spin-1/2 spinon excitations. Our experimental results provide firm evidence for spin fractionalization in a topologically ordered spin system, resembling charge fractionalization in the fractional quantum Hall state.  相似文献

We have investigated low energy nuclear spin excitations in double perovskite compounds R(2)CoMnO(6) (R=Y, Tb) by inelastic neutron scattering with a high resolution back-scattering spectrometer. We observed inelastic signals at about 2.1 μeV for Y(2)CoMnO(6) and also for Tb(2)CoMnO(6) at T = 2 K in both energy-loss and energy-gain sides. We interpret these inelastic peaks to be due to the transitions between the hyperfine split nuclear levels of the (59)Co nucleus. The inelastic peaks move towards the central elastic peak and finally merge with it at the magnetic ordering temperature T(C). The energy of the low energy excitations decreases continuously and becomes zero at T(C) ≈ 75 K for Y(2)CoMnO(6) and T(C) ≈ 100 K for Tb(2)CoMnO(6). For Tb(2)CoMnO(6), which contains magnetic rare earth ions, additional quasielastic scattering due presumably to the fluctuations of large Tb magnetic moments was observed. The present study reveals the magnetic ordering of the Co sublattice. The results of this investigation along with that obtained by us for other compounds indicate the presence of unquenched orbital moments in some of the Co compounds.

In a system where magnetic ions occupy the vertices of edge or corner sharing triangular units, the natural antiferromagnetic coupling between ions is geometrically frustrated. A wide variety of interesting magnetic behaviour has been observed in pyrochlores, where magnetic ions form a network of corner sharing tetrahedra. The low temperature spin dynamics of a number of pyrochlores A2B2O7 have been investigated using the technique of μ SR. For example, Y2Mo2O7 shows a transition to a disordered magnetic state similar to a spin glass at TF=22 K. However, unlike conventional metallic spin glasses, a non‐zero muon spin depolarization rate is observed to persist well below 0.1\ TF. These results suggest that there is a finite density of states for magnetic excitations in this system near zero energy. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In this paper we present an overview of the radio-frequency muon spin resonance (RFμSR) technique, an analogue to continuous-wave NMR, and an introduction to time-integral (TI) and time-differential (TD) RFμSR on muons in diamagnetic or in paramagnetic environments. The general form of the resonance line for TI-RFμSR as well as the expression for the time-dependence of the longitudinal muon spin polarization at resonance are given. Since RFμSR does not require phase coherence of the muon spin ensemble, this technique allows us to investigate muon species that are generated by transitions from, or in the course of reactions of, a precursor muon species even if in transverse-field (TF) μSR measurements the signal is lost due to dephasing. This ability of RFμSR is clearly demonstrated by measurements on doped Si. In this example, at low temperatures, a very pronounced signal from a muon species in diamagnetic environment has been found in RFμSR measurements, whereas in TFμSR experiments only a very small signal from muons in diamagnetic environment could be detected and a large fraction of the implanted muons escaped detection. These findings could be interpreted in terms of the delayed formation of a diamagnetic muonium-dopant complex, and, due to the large diamagnetic RFμSR signal, the RFμSR technique is a unique tool to study how the variation of parameters and experimental conditions such as illumination affects formation and behavior of these complexes. First results obtained on illuminated boron doped Si are reported. However, as illustrated by the example of experiments on the muonated radical in solid C60, results from conventional TI-RFμSR cannot always be interpreted unambiguously since different parameters, namely the fraction of muons forming the investigated muon species, the longitudinal and the transverse relaxation rates, have similar effects on height and shape of the RFμSR resonance line. These ambiguities, however, may be resolved by collecting time-differential data. With this extension RFμSR becomes a very powerful complementary method to TFμSR in the studies of dynamic effects.  相似文献

Neutral spin texture (ST) excitations at nu=1/3 are directly observed for the first time by resonant inelastic light scattering. They are determined to involve two simultaneous spin flips. At low magnetic fields, the ST energy is below that of the magnetoroton minimum. With increasing in-plane magnetic field these mode energies cross at a critical ratio of the Zeeman and Coulomb energies of eta(c)=0.020+/-0.001. Surprisingly, the intensity of the ST mode grows with temperature in the range in which the magnetoroton modes collapse. The temperature dependence is interpreted in terms of a competition between coexisting phases supporting different excitations. We consider the role of the ST excitations in activated transport at nu=1/3.  相似文献

Double pyrochlore Dy2Ru207 is synthesized and its magnetism and ferroelectricity below the Ru4+ spin ordering temperature (NI00 K) are investigated. The ferroelectric transition appears at -18 K, much higher than the Dy3+ spin ordering point at -1.8 K and lower than the Ru4+ spin ordering point at -100 K. The measured electric polarization at ,-2 K is as big as 145℃/m2 in the polycrystalline samples. It is argued that the ferroelectricity is possibly ascribed to the electric dipole ordering arising from the collective monopole excitations in the Dy3+ tetrahedrons in prior to the Dy3+ spin ordering into spin-ice like state below -1.8 K.  相似文献

We have performed thermodynamic and neutron scattering measurements on the S=1/2 kagomé lattice antiferromagnet ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2. The susceptibility indicates a Curie-Weiss temperature of theta CW approximately = -300 K; however, no magnetic order is observed down to 50 mK. Inelastic neutron scattering reveals a spectrum of low energy spin excitations with no observable gap down to 0.1 meV. The specific heat at low-T follows a power law temperature dependence. These results suggest that an unusual spin liquid state with essentially gapless excitations is realized in this kagomé lattice system.  相似文献

Electron spin‐freezing at Tf=8 K has been detected in superconducting (Tc=12\ K) single crystal La2CuO4+y (y\simeq0.03) by ZF‐μSR. According to diffraction data, the crystal is in Bmab phase without any traces of structural phase separation. TF‐μSR experiment has shown that no Abrikosov flux line lattice is formed below Tc. The data allow us to assume that the magnetic and superconducting regions in the crystal are space separated on the microscopic scales ~ 102 Å. The presence of large field induced broadening of the Knight shift distribution k\sigma > 1000 ppm indicates that the crystal contains micro‐regions possessing enhanced magnetic susceptibility.  相似文献

We review some of the properties of the vortex lattice in type II superconductors and the use of muon spin rotation (μSR) to investigate high temperature superconducting oxides. As a microscopic probe of the field distribution inside the bulk of materials, μSR is shown to be a powerful tool with which to study the magnetic properties of superconductors. We also discuss how understanding the complex phenomenology of the vortex lattice in these materials is necessary in order to correctly determine fundamental parameters of the superconducting state.  相似文献

Raman light scattering of the two-dimensional quantum spin system SrCu2(BO3)(2) shows a rich structure in the magnetic excitation spectrum, including several well-defined bound state modes at low temperature, and a scattering continuum and quasielastic light scattering contributions at high temperature. The key to the understanding of the unique features of SrCu2(BO3)(2) is the presence of strong interactions between well-localized triplet excitations in the network of orthogonal spin dimers realized in this compound.  相似文献

Recently, experimental studies of the spin excitation spectrum revealed a strong temperature dependence in the normal state and a resonance feature in the superconducting state of several Fe-based superconductors. Based on these findings, we develop a model of electrons interacting with a temperature dependent magnetic excitation spectrum and apply it to angle resolved photoemission in Ba(1-x)K(x)Fe(2)As(2). We reproduce in quantitative agreement with experiment a renormalization of the quasiparticle dispersion both in the normal and the superconducting state, and the dependence of the quasiparticle linewidth on binding energy. We estimate the strength of the coupling between electronic and spin excitations. Our findings support a dominantly magnetic pairing mechanism.  相似文献

The collective spin excitations in the unbounded 2D paramagnetic system with dipole interactions are studied. The model Hamiltonian includes Zeeman energy and dipole interaction energy, while the exchange vanishes. The system is placed into a constant uniform magnetic field which is orthogonal to the lattice plane. It provides the equilibrium state with spin ordering along the field direction, and the saturation is reached at zero temperature. We consider the deviations of spin magnetic moments from its equilibrium position along the external field. The Holstein-Primakoff representation is applied to spin operators in low-temperature approximation. When the interaction between the spin waves is negligible and only two-magnon terms are taken into account, the Hamiltonian diagonalisation is possible. We obtain the dispersion relation for spin waves in the square and hexagonal honeycomb lattice. Bose-Einstein statistics determine the average number of spin deviations, and total system magnetization. The lattice structure does not influence on magnetization at the long-wavelength limit. The dependencies of the relative magnetization and longitudinal susceptibility on temperature and external field intensity are found. The internal energy and specific heat of the Bose gas of spin waves are calculated. The collective spin excitations play a significant role in the properties of the paramagnetic system at low temperature and strong external magnetic field.  相似文献

We study gauged Laplacian operators on line bundles on a quantum 2-dimensional sphere. Symmetry under the (co)-action of a quantum group allows for their complete diagonalization. These operators describe ‘excitations moving on the quantum sphere’ in the field of a magnetic monopole. The energies are not invariant under the exchange monopole/antimonopole, that is under inverting the direction of the magnetic field. There are potential applications to models of quantum Hall effect.  相似文献

Using a spin-only model, we compute spin excitation spectra in a bond-centered stripe state with long-range magnetic order. We employ a bond operator formalism, which naturally captures both dimerization and broken spin symmetry in a unified framework. At low energies, the spin excitations resemble spin waves, but at higher energies they are very similar to spin-one excitations of isolated spin ladders. Our theory does well describe neutron scattering data [Nature (London) 429, 534 (2004)]] on La2-xBaxCuO4, pointing towards bond order in this material.  相似文献

We report the first inelastic neutron scattering measurements on the rhombohedrally stacked triangular antiferromagnet NaCrO2 which has recently been shown via μSR and NMR measurements to exhibit an unusually broad fluctuating cross-over regime extending far below the onset of spin freezing at Tc. Our results show that strong spin fluctuations persist far below Tc and that dispersive spin wave excitations only appear near the cross-over temperature 0.75Tc.  相似文献
